Ah, live television--where chipper interns can embarrass even the most self-important anchor types.
Earlier today, MSNBC's Contessa Brewer cited the anti-Bush parody web site Whitehouse.org as if it were the official web site of the president. Later in the show, she corrected her mistake, but tried to make it seem she mentioned the phony site on purpose.
It was a really bad error, too, since, as Allahpundit points out, Whitehouse.org is quite over-the-top in its "tribute" to Falwell, having the fictional reverend speak warmly of his "foot-high stack of mostly gay hardcore pornography" on the same page that Brewer quoted from.

May 15, 2007 - 23:27 ET by misterbillReverend Falwell is in God's hands this night. So too is the future of those who spout the hate. Their day will come when they stand before God and will answer for their words.
I posted about Rev. Falwell already this evening, so I will just say, like him or not, I challenge anyone to say he tried to do evil. Everything he did was to FIGHT evil. I was not a fan of his politically, but I respected and admired him.
It really sacers me. The Dems

Then she spews the parody site's claim that Falwell was
" The defacto executive director for domestic and global policy for the White House."
So, we see, one of her "producers" is surfing the web for dirt - or just plain any information, and moments after they find a parody site, their little reporter repeats it's claim (since the reporters and producers minds are empty when it comes to any knowledge of their own concerning Falwell).
I think this is how most news occurs. The people in charge haven't got a clue what is actually going on most of the time, and when it comes to any knowledge from years and years of continuous happenstance and learning about the supposed largest figures they report on, the slate is completely blank. They live in a mindless vaccuum, not even aware of the basic set of facts and knowledge an average interested American has under their belt. They have no basis upon which to judge anything they recieve as "research" or news, and even parody websites pass for "the truth" with these people.
It's amazing. This wasn't a mistake, it is standard practice.
