It certainly should come as no great surprise that anti-Semitic and anti-Israel comments are nothing rare at the ultra-liberal website Daily Kos.
It is nonetheless fascinating to read the views of an Israeli member and contributor who has asked for his membership to be canceled due to “plain old Israel Bashing“ and the fact that people there are “advancing ideology that leads directly to Israel being destroyed as a Jewish and democratic [sic], and me dying.”
Eyal Rosenberg’s extraordinarily passionate post began (h/t LGF, emphasis added throughout):
I have been a member here on dkos for several months. I have read many diaries, and even wrote a few. Today I have decided to leave dkos.
[…]
Reading these past months on dkos has led me to believe that people here, under the "progressive" banner, support views that end up in one place: Me dead.
[…]
The goal is the same, and the reason is not people's concern for Human rights, of even Palestinian rights. Its just plain old Israel Bashing as a way to clear people's conscience by finding a scapegoat and a target for their pacifist post-modernist views.
Rosenberg then wonderfully identified the hypocrisy that exists not only at ultra-liberal websites like Daily Kos, but is also prevalent throughout the media and much of the Democrat Party:
Not a word on the hundreds of thousand of jews expelled from the Arab countries and rehabilitated in Israel. Easier to blame Israel for not commiting suicide by letting the Palestinian refugees back in, not blaming the Arab world for keeping them poor and desperate.
And Yet - every Palestinian village of an order of a hundred people is known, mapped, tracked and valued - not for their sake, but as another self righteous spike on a club bashing my nation's collective head.
Barely a word for Darfur - Israel has been in a diary on dkos over 5000 times in the past year, Darfur less then 1000. How many thousands continue to be killed there by Muslims? If I did not know better I would think that on dkos bashing Israel was more important than saving lives. But what has gone in Sudan? Only 2 million dead versus the circa 7 thousand in the I/P conflict in the same period.
Why don't people on dkos go for boycotting Pakistan? After all its troops killed and displaced about 1.5 million people in Bangladesh during the 1970's... but since Muslims did the killing, no one cares for those lives or those people's "Right of Return"...
Fascinating points the left and the media that support them will never honestly address. The same is true of the following:
People on dkos go back to Zionism's early days in the 1880's and the 1920's, and point out how "Unjust" it is. How Jews were "massacring" Palestinians in the 1930's as if it was instinct.
Anyone remember Black September 1970? When Jordanians killed 10,000 Palestinians in 2 months? In Jordan where Palestinians are an absolute majority but have little in the way of basic civil rights? Where are the maps of Palestinian villages in Jordan? Why not demand democracy in Jordan, or boycott it? Oh right. Jordanians, as muslims, are exempt from criticism. Jews, especially Zionists, are not.
What about the Syrians at Hama? Saudis? Egypt's Copts? Algeria? Afghanistan? Somalia? I'll save you the time. Feel free to read up. Millions of Muslims and Christians slaughtered and displaced, but no one gives a damn.
How many comments and diaries here showed HAMAS was flexible and peace loving, versus those evil warlike Zionists?
[…]
Even if Israel does as much as demolish a single structure, for whatever reason (just and legal or not), someone on dkos will post a diary with 300 comments on it - going back historically with discussions on everything that is completely irrelevant to the event.
[…]
No one here argues return for and of the tens of millions of people displaced over the past 100 years all over the globe for the simple reason that their return (Turks to Greece? Unthinkable. Germans to Poland? frightening!) does not spell Israel's destruction. Me dead. And they back it up with Norman Finkelstein and Noam Chomsky!!! Those two do not care. I'll be dead if their ideology comes true, they won't.
Sounds like virtually all in the media, doesn’t it? Rosenberg marvelously concluded:
People here are advancing ideology that leads directly to Israel being destroyed as a Jewish and democratic, and me dying - since the two are one and the same…The TV ethics employed by some members of this site here is a mirror of misguided ideology and theory. Reading this site for the past few months has me feeling like I was reading the writings of West European communists in the 1970's : Confidant, just, well written, scientific, moral (remember the "evils" of capitalism?) . Yet - in the view of history - utter garbage.
I came to this site with Leftist Zionist Environmentalist Pro-Peace ideology (Meretz style).
I leave it with a heavy doubt of the entire "Progressive" ideology, morals and goals.
Obviously, this is a doubt shared by many Americans, though sadly not those in the media. However, it is quite ironic to note that almost two hours after Rosenberg posted his impassioned exit speech, the following blog was published at Daily Kos (h/t LGF, emphasis added):
You can virtually guarantee that when a non-story comes out of Palestine via Israeli propaganda organisations, there is another story that the Israelis want covered up. So today we have the non-news that a Hamas TV station has been using a Mickey Mouse look-alike. The only actual news in the story was in Haaretz, that the Palestinian minister in charge of broadcasting had ordered it pulled.
This disgrace generated 145 comments.
Any questions as to why Rosenberg has departed Daily Kos?

May 10, 2007 - 11:06 ET by Challenger GrimI've never been able to figure out the difference (and if anyone can explain it to me, I'd be grateful)...
Non-violent protests and demonstrations have a record for working VERY well within democratic societies. Two of the left's (and I say probably a lot on the right as well) biggest heroes are Martin Luthor King Jr and Ghandi.
Why then don't more advocate for the Palestinians to achieve their goals through non-violent means? It's not like this is WW2 where such actions would have been useless against Hitler. I'm sorry but I'll have little to no respect for the Palestinians until they get a MLKJr or Ghandi of their own.

May 10, 2007 - 11:35 ET by MentalrushI have a lot of sympathy for the guy, but the last line of his post just boggles me. He's gotten a taste of the scuzz that's pulling the strings of the Democrat party, fully understands what they think of him and his country... the closes with "put a Democrat in the White House." What is it with Jews and supporting the very people who agitate against them most in this country? While certainly there are racists on the extreme right who hate jews, by and large the majority of support for Israel comes from the conservative & christian right. I know the guy is an avowed leftest, but his support of the left in this country is detrimental to his own. So which is more important to him, leftist idiology or the survival of his country & kin? My sympathy for this guy teeters on the brink of the apathetic abyss.
As always, all my best to Israel & their struggle for survival. And put a conservative in the White House.

May 10, 2007 - 11:56 ET by zfI think it's the fact that the "conservatives are all racists" mantra has been repeated so many times by the left (especially the media) that far too many believe it. Also the attempt to portray atheistic socalist Hitler as a right-winger has taken hold and succeded in becoming the truth to many segments of the public. Couple that with the selective reportage of anti-Semitism on the part of some of the extreme right and you have the recipe for the "democrat in the White House" statement.
I really do feel sorry for the man, as he probably thinks the left-wing lunacy and hate he receieved on the Daily Kraze is the exception when it fact it's becoming the rule among Democrats.

May 10, 2007 - 12:33 ET by ForeverOnTheRightIt’s easy for the lefties to portray atheistic socialist Hitler as a right-winger to the dumb-downed left. They don’t know their social study lessons. On the political spectrum socialism is on the left, but they are too dumb-downed to know that. You can easily lead the ignorant into believing what you want them to.

May 10, 2007 - 12:11 ET by Mean Gene Dr. LoveThat kind of stuff has always boggled my mind as well. Christians especially support Israel because we view them as God's chosen people...The Bible makes that point from Genesis through Revelation. God made promises that will be fulfilled. Christians (and therefore many if not most conservatives) should be the Jews closest allies. But for some weird reason, they tend to support generally godless people that are opposed to the survival of the Jews.

Oh well, better late than never, I suppose.
PS: Can't wait to hear our resident libtrolls come in here and lecture us yet again on how "tolerant" liberals are. I'm having a bad day and could use a little comic relief.

May 10, 2007 - 12:32 ET by Gat New YorkMarkos himself is anti-Semitic and therefore has allowed some of the most hateful anti-Israel and anti-Jewish posts on his Daily Kos. It is also a reflection of the not so hidden bias within the Democrat party. An Irish friend of mine once asked me why my Jewish breathren primarily vote Democrat and I am still without a reason. Jimmy Carter is as anti-Israel a President as the U.S. has ever had. Hillary comes from an anti-Semitic family and had voiced strong anti-Israel beliefs before running for the Senate in New York. Obama has already voiced very pro-Palestinean and anti-Israel positions. And this is the blog that led the hateful anti-Joe Lieberman campaign. So why do any Jewish people vote for Democrats? Don't know.
One down and 50 million more to go. It's a start!
May 10, 2007 - 12:45 ET by w0tmWell, it's a start. Only 50 million more "Useful Idiots" remain to recognize facts, truth, reality and common sense.
About a year ago, I thought I'd try a common sense response to an exceptionally idiotic post on www.dailykos.com. I was immediately set upon by hundreds of the most vile, mean-spirited people making the crudest comments imaginable but nothing about my post of course. All about "attacking the messenger". We have trolls from DailyKOS and other far-left sites that post here but for the most part, they are responded to in a civil manner and they certainly aren't driven off. I tried to respond mostly to say "goodbye" and that my short visit among the mindless Kool-Aid drinkers of socialism had not been enjoyable. But I had already been reported by so many "Kozzers" (think that's what they call themselves) that my subscription had already been canceled.
I decided to have some fun with it. I subscribed again but, this time, my profile described me as an aging (but still mad as Hell at "The Man") hippie from the 60's. With the screen name I used, I figured they'd catch on pretty quick and boot me off but they never did. I began by posting comments similar to those that appear there every day. Then I began to post the most asinine, ludicrous, silly and down right stupid things I could think up. No matter how idiotic, my posts were always greeted with dozens of "right on!" and "wish I'd said that!" No one ever disagreed. I came right up to the edge of calling for murder of all conservatives, the administration and just anyone and everyone who didn't think like Mr. Koz himself. I began to spin stories of my days "hanging" with Jane and Abbie and all the big name leftists of the 60's. I rattled off my many deeds of burning this national armory and that army recruiting office to the point, if you added it all up, I would have had to have been a dozen people. They lapped it up. I soon became one of the "top 100" on DailyKOS. Whenever I'd post, it would show up in a special list on the main page. Thousands subscribed to my blog. Thousands sent me messages. I never revealed my true identity of course and kept my IP from being traced.
Thousands of "young skulls filled with mush" hung on my every word. Each one begging for more from me on what is was like on the streets of SF, the Chicago riots of '68, Kent State and every other event I had helped lead over so many years. I was the one who introduced Timothy Leary to LSD! Wow, was I cool! According to my bio, I fled to Canada after burning down one too many college buildings and making threats the FBI flagged. I was now hiding in Detroit living in a soup kitchen but ready to rejoin the struggle. I'd write about protests of today that showed up on the news. I'd pick some older hippie looking person in the news video then post asking if anyone saw me (toothless, bald, eye patch, beard, t-shirt with Malcolm X on it, etc".). "Yeah, we saw you! Cool dude!!"
I got crazier and crazier. I was asked to organize marches if only I'd come forward. I finally made a few posts that Cindy Sheehan would consider ridiculous. STILL -- only mindless agreement. I then decided it was getting out of hand and just disappeared. I came away convinced that the people who frequent DailyKOS are as brainwashed as any ten-year old in North Korea or the Islamic children we recently saw chanting "death to Jew pigs" as a Mickey Mouse-like character coached them.
The human mind is the easiest mind to brainwash. A dog can't be trained to jump into fire or off of a cliff. But these people and millions like them sure could! Stalin's term of "Useful Idiots" was one of his few positive contributions before he left this earth. We can accurately describe brainwashed people who are a danger to our civilization in just two words, "Useful Idiots".

May 10, 2007 - 12:52 ET by Challenger GrimCan you post a link to some of your more record breaking lunacies? (it could be really entertaining reading)
Has anyone here read "The Man Who was Thursday" by G.K. Chesterson?
(SPOILER ALERT) It's about a group of officers that work to stop a group of anarchists only to find out that both groups are EXACTLY the same (the officers didn't know about each other and they each inflitrated the organization and rose to the top without realizing the people they were working against were on the same side).
(END SPOILER)
I sometimes wonder if places like DU or kos are the same way. There's actually few to none REALLY crazy peeps out there and most of the sites are just Right-wing parodies all unwittingly playing each other.
If only
May 10, 2007 - 13:17 ET by MentalrushIf only that were the case, Grim, but I doubt it. It may not seem as bad out in the world as it does on the web, but that has more to do with human nature. A lot of those flamers don't have the guts to say those things when you can put your eyes on them. The relative anonymity of the web gives a lot of folks courage they wouldn't have without the screen to hide behind. And that goes both ways. I know a lot of folks who disagree with liberal pap when they hear it in public, but won't speak up because they don't want to argue or draw attention to themselves. My advice to all is to raise your voice & refuse to be intimidated.
Wish I could -- but try DailyKOS yourself - it is lots of fun!!
May 10, 2007 - 16:02 ET by w0tmWish I could but that would "out me” and I'd no longer be on the top 100 list of all-time most popular DailyKOS bloggers. I may want to pick it up again some day. It is interesting to read blogs of Kozzers asking each other what happened to me. Rumors started that included having me arrested by the Gestapo FBI and I was shipped to Guantanamo to be tortured then killed. Another has it on good authority (blogger claims to know me from the Detroit soup kitchen) that I sold out to the Dark Side and am now an informant for the Nazi regime of Bush. Really nutty stuff. These people see a conspiracy in their breakfast cereal.
You should try it sometime. Pick out a really crazy persona. I thought of being a far-left college professor friend of Ward Churchill but never followed through. You can have that identity if you want it. Pick some screen name that has to do with colleges. Get a Gmail account so they can't easily trace you plus www.anonymizer.com or one of the free sites that shows a different IP address than your real one on the other end. Then blog away and spin tales. Since most of the bloggers on KOS and other leftist blogs are not literary giants (just mad rants lacking grammatical correctness, spell-check turned off and 90% four-letter words), well written blogs really stand out. Write stuff as whacko as a Groucho Marx movie and as far-left as Karl Marx the day after being stiffed for a raise by his capitalist boss and you'll quickly become a star. Work at it and you'll reach the "Top 100" KOS blogger list just like I did. Top 100 out of over a million. I REALLY had to write as if I was sniffing glue at the same time to attain that high status! Anyway, give it a try. It's a lot of fun. One caution. For a while, if you correspond with19 year-old brainless idiots, you can easily feel as if you're making fun of the mentally handicapped. It took some time for me to get past that. After I accepted they were terminally liberal and terminally brain dead and there was nothing I could do to help them recover, I just had fun. Call me heartless and cruel but I did it.
Yes, I do wonder if some spoof us on sites like this but I think we usually spot them within a few posts. Whatever Newsbusters is, it's not a site that draws low IQ minds to it. The "seminar callers" call Rush Limbaugh and the like. I think they leave us alone. The audience is too small. You know -- the callers who start out saying "I've been a loyal listener for ten years, a solid conservative and always agree with you BUT ---- ". Rush cuts them off mid-sentence. As do other conservative talk show hosts. Mark Levin is the best at it. He first twists them into knots. He's a master at it. These people assume conservatives are as dumb and gullible as they are. Anyway, maybe I'll make my comeback on DailyKOS after reading the one recent post where someone stated I had been shipped to Guantanamo. I'll confirm it plus say I was smuggled out in a Muslim prayer rug delivery van. See you on the DailyKOS. Watch for me! I think I've told you enough, you'll recognize me in the top 100. It’s almost like writing scripts for "24"! Jack (not my real name) just busted out of Guantanamo and is on the run!
DailyKOS will be buzzing tonight!

May 10, 2007 - 13:27 ET by BeowulfWhat I can't understand is how a group of people such as American Jews can continue to support the Democratic party. The Dems embody liberalism, yet liberals continually embrace support of the Islamists and the condemnation of Israel.
I well remember the last two Florida elections where one of the few really Blue counties is Palm Beach. Palm Beach's population has a high percentage of American Jewish persuasion living there. Yet Palm Beach county always votes Democrat.
I just can't understand why. A good example of this is why did it take Mr. Rosenberg so long to quit the kos? This "Jew-bashing" tone isn't anything recent for the kos bloggers. What will it take for the Jewish communities to realize that they are supporting those who would help (intentionally or not) destroy them?

May 10, 2007 - 13:38 ET by Gat New YorkThese are the same people who led the lynching of Joe Lieberman by his own political party. Why? Because Senator Lieberman was the first to call for going after Hussein. Why? He was honest about Hussein's threat to us and the region. Joe remembered what Hussein's military response was when we went into Kuwait. He didn't fire at us. Instead Hussein launched a massive scud missile attack on Israeli neighborhoods even though they had nothing to do with our fight with Iraq. He also noted that Hussein was the biggest supporter of terrorism inside Israel because of his boast of rewarding families of suicide bombers.

May 11, 2007 - 15:02 ET by BeowulfI disagree GNY, on why the left shivved Leiberman. He took it up the shooter from his party when he had the unmitigated audacity to go to Iraq and tell the American public that there were many things actually going well there. This directly contradicted the Dem party line which was, and still is, backed by the MSM, that every aspect of the war is a disaster. This stance has been the entire foundation of their quest to regain power, and Little Joe almost knocked the legs out from under them. This was really the first major example of their censorship of disagreement. It has expanded dramatically on virtually all issues since then.
The reason is that most of their positions simply can't stand up to any determined disagreement. Examples are Globull Warming, "Domestic" wiretapping, gun control, political corruption, and media bias.
