Is MSNBC.com Already Bored of Fort Dix Terror Plot Story?

What's the big story this morning? Both FoxNews.com and CNN.com are still going with the Fort Dix terror suspect arrests as the top story. But as the screencap below (taken at 11:15 EDT) shows, MSNBC.com has "Major Flood: Rising Midwest rivers spark comparison to deadly '93 deluge" as the top story. (screencap included after the jump)

Granted, disaster stories are big news, particularly so close on the heels of the Greensburg, Kansas, tornado. But six immigrants, all of whom are suspected radical Muslims and three of whom are here in the United States illegally, is certainly a more compelling story for a top story.

Update
: Malkin has a lengthy post about the terror plot here, complete with excerpts from FBI documents.

I noticed this first thing this morning....the flood and gas prices in either order have been their top stories, I turned it all off.

Something as important as this should be huge news on all the networks, not just for a few minutes...plus some gum-shoe work and interviews and just a little thanks to all involved for getting these scum of the earth creeps.

Oh well I guess it just isn't important or sexy enough until thousands and thousands are killed here...again.

Ethnic Albanians? OH! You mean terrorist muslims!

Every MSM story I have come across refers to the perps as "Ethnic Albanians".

It isn't until coincidental statements deep into the piece that we find that these are garden variety

Muslim Terrorists.

I wonder why that is?

Subtext

The answer may lie in the subtext of the stories.  Terror plot foiled = war on terror working.  Natural disaster = potential opportunity to bash Bush.

Jimbo says - "There is a fine line between freedom of speech and treason"

If they take off as the top s

If they take off as the top story, want it go away?

I mean, come on who wants to hear about the Islamic Freedom Fights getting arrested for plotting against the mean troops of the oppressor George Bush?

Besides this whole flooding and gas prices thing are his entire fault anyway.

In all honesty, I don't see the problem. A deadly storm, thousands of people being evacuated from their homes with the potential for a greater threat looming.... We're talking actual loss of life, many lives greatly altered, a lot of damage done.

They're both important stories. How do you judge which is most important?

You are absolutely right. 10

You are absolutely right. 10 people die in a tornado and people are displaced by floods.....so much more important than the actions that PREVENTED the terrorist attack on our troops. We should just leave the story alone unless civilians get killed or threatened. <sarc off>

I fully understand the seriou

I fully understand the seriousness and the implications of the averted attack -I never advocated leaving the story alone. I get the impression you simply don't understand the seriousness of the flooding that's occuring. People die, thousands more are displaced for an indeterminant amount of time, the situation may be worsening, and you think its a joke?

I'll ask again, by what criteria is one clearly the top story and one not? I think the idea that "there can be only one" top story is ridiculous -but then I'm not a journalist, If there has to be one, I don't see choosing either of these stories as being wrong.

Edit: I know you don't really think its a joke -that wasn't exactly a fair characterization. Ken says the Fort Dix story, "is certainly a more compelling story for a top story." and many seem to agree. I disagree and am curious as to what, specifically, people find so much more compelling than the flood story.

I think the problem was that

I think the problem was that the terror attack story didn't even make 'splash page mention'  - it wasn't ebcause it wasn't the top story, but if you look on the side bar, it isn't even there......The events at Fort Dix were much more important than some of the other stories listed there.

Oops! Never mind. After looking again, it IS there.

One is clearly a natural disa

One is clearly a natural disaster (not man-made, not created by "global warming") and something that cannot be predicted or averted by policies. Yes that is terrible, but it was regional. The Ft Dix story (and I was stationed at Ft Dix before serving in Iraq) is something that affects everyone in the United States. It was clearly meant to be a "9/11" of the military personel there and who knows how many other cells are out there ready to target other military bases across the country. It was clearly a another step of bringing the Global Jihad to America: kill our soldiers before they have a chance to stop the terrorists over seas. The other reason that it should be a top story, is that this is another successful defeat for the enemy on our shores by the administration. That reason alone guarantees it won't be headline news by many organizations.

"Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists."

- President George W Bush September 2001 speech to a joint session of Congress.

Hi msh...

They are having a great press conference so far on this exact subject.

I wished they would not take questions from the twits in the press.

I thank goodness for the work these people did to save some of our men at Fort Dix.

They were going to put the lights out first with a power outage.

Well you know, as Rosie &am

Well you know, as Rosie & her pal  said they're all a bunch of "poor people looking for in education".  I mean seriously, have you seen what they're posting on Puff Post?  They're actually somewhat saddened they faild because in their world (Rosie's too) the military is the enemy.  What a bunch of pigs.

This morning on AOL's website

This morning on AOL's website it said "former citizen's of Yugoslavia". I knew at that moment they were Muslim terrorists. You know proponents of that religion of peace-Islam.
