The DC Madame

Someone should do a post on why ABC decided not to come forward with any of the name on the DC Madame's list -- even though they hyped it all week for their Friday show.  It's interesting they outed two Republicans -- was the list heavily Democrat?

This warrants investigation -- there was 46 pounds of phone records.

I'm guessing it is, otherwise the names would be on the front pages of just about every major newspaper in the country.

CNN just had a report on the

CNN just had a report on the defense spending bill veto. Their point was to downplay the money that would be cut off to our troops, saying "there would be no IMMEDIATE effect" on our troops overseas. They then cited the "non-partisan" (so you know it's legit, haha) CBO report saying, quote, "the army can function to June or July".

See? There is nothing to worry about, my progressive comrades! The troops have at least 4-8 weeks of funding left until they stop receiving supplies. What's the big deal? I mean, Congress will get right on this and get it resolved in a matter of days. Just because it took 180 days last time doesn't mean a thing.

The astute piece of reporting also managed to leave out all the pork added to the bill. Why clutter our minds will all that useless information, right? I mean, Paris is going to jail! Nancy Grace and Greta von Lockjaw is camped out in fron of the jail as we speak...

Looking and finding the obvious

MAY 5th: I see an online article about some talk show host in Wisconsin
making a very crude remark about the fire death of the Mother of his
rival host Charlie Sykes. ***MILWAUKEE — A former alderman and
controversial radio talk show host said he’s happy the mother of his

This article became an instant source of curiosity since no politics of the offending host was never mentioned.
Red flag. This made me suspect the crude comment was made by a liberal

I did a search and… sure enough, the insulted man (Charlie Sykes) was:

Weather has been cool latel

Weather has been cool lately, pretty much throughout continental US.

Ordinarily, I would just be happy with cool weather, but I like it because it lowers the volume of the Polar Bear crowd. I hope for cool summer, I think weather may presently be influenced by undersea earthquake that caused Tsunami havoc in South Indian Ocean. I would have to ask a respected climatologist about that one.

I feel like an idiot looking at day by day weather in relation to a global climate. The climate is influenced by thousands of year cycles, that leaves changes recorded over tens of thousands of years. The period of observations over the hysteria is NOTHING compared with the time of true climate change. .

Election periods are much shorter, however, and that is what influences emotions, and so emotions influence global climate.

I DREAD the prospect of a couple of very warm summer months and the NOISE LEVEL expected from the Polar Bear Defense Force, headed by Lt Gen Gore, and Col Boxer.

This damn noise was TERRIBLE over a warm December, 2006.

A new kind of soldier

      A Letter to my Soldier

-

(Another day at work

Another day is through

Another day is done

Until I'll be with you.)

-

Dear, I stopped and got the boys

At your Mom's with all the toys

They're bathed and fed and in their bed

Waiting for a story to be read

-

I look in their faces and what do I see

An image of you looking at me

It's hard for me at home alone

Very hard since you've been gone

-

Tho' it's six months since you went

I pick up your pillow and smell your scent

I can't let the boys know of my fears

I can never let them see my tears

-

I call on God and each night I pray

To make the time pass fast away

'Til the boys and I in anticipation

Drive to get you at the station

-

I see your face in front of me

And dream of all life's meant to be

With you here each day by my side

Hand in hand, stride by stride

-

The world keeps on changing even in war

And this poor letter has been written for

A new kind of soldier, My heart and my life

My Sweetheart, my Darling, my wonderful wife.

Cindy Sheehan invades Kent State May 4 Memorial

Plenty of local coverage her in O-hi-o for May 4 Remembrance at KSU. Cindy Sheehan was in attendance and bemoaning that today's college students aren't the sort of activists that they had in the 70's. And yet, local bird cage liner article states that Mrs. Sheehan became an anti-war activist after her son was killed in Iraq.

Sad that the likes of Sheehan decided to use the day - which should be a time to remember and honor the students who were killed - as just another day to push the anti-war agenda and fondly recall the good old anti-war activists of the 70's. The same anti-war activists from across the country who arrived in busloads on the campus of KSU on that May 4, set fire to the ROTC building, and created the chaos that led to innocent students losing their lives. Peace-loving activists? Hardly.

I'm sick and tired of the left-wing media's refusal to tell both sides of the story.

Opinions wanted--the war on drugs-

Opinions wanted--the war on drugs- how can we stop the widespread use of drugs in America??

Drugs are destroying our youth and their futures in larger numbers every year. Drugs have affected my family. I see absolutely no progress in the "War on Drugs" that supposedly exists in America.  I see police forces picking low hanging fruit to build impressive arrest records. Kids going to jail and having ruined lives because of felony convictions. I am interested in how you folks see it and what you think can be done.

The "war" on drugs

misterbill,

Many here will not agree with me on this, but I believe there are two things that could be done today that would sharply reduce drug use and the violent crime associated with it. Understand also that drugs have touched my family as well, and in a very tragic way.

1) End the hideous "War on Drugs" once and for all.

This so-called war has done nothing but drive up the price to the point where people will willingly kill other people in order to partake in the profits. Remove the profit potential and much of the associated violence goes away.

Also, I think many of our civil rights as Americans have been violated by the government in the name of stopping drugs. In most areas, the police can now pull you over and search your vehicle w/o a warrent, and all they have to say later is that they were looking for drugs. It has also allowed the government to use the drug war as an excuse for delving even deeper into our personal lives, such as our financial records and other places this libertarian strongly feels they do not belong.

It has also fostered a great deal of corruption within our legal system as well as within our law enforcement agencies. The Atlanta Police Department, as you well know, is learning the police corruption part first hand. Furthermore, our search and seizure laws have now gotten to the point where many "law enforcement" agencies can confiscate your car, your home, or the cash in your pocket without so much as a legal proceeding. All they have to say is that they suspect you are somehow involved in the drug trade. They do not have to prove zilch.

Apparently, nothing was learned from the prohibtion fiaso in the early part of the last century, which, IMHO, opened the door for organized crime in this country. The "War on Drugs" is doing basically the same thing-only now it is gangs.

2) Provide drug treatment for those who truly want to get cleaned up. There are many people I believe would take advantage of this.

As for those who refuse treatment and wish to continue with their habbits, they should be just kicked to the curb and allowed to continue on with it. Nothing can be done for them until they decide they want to change. However, when they reach the point where their lives are ruined and their brains are running out of their noses, well, that's just too bad for them.

I know that sounds harsh, but I would prefer that if my tax dollars are to be spent on these people, that they only go to those who really want help. The rest should not have access to public funds for any reason.

I would also make it a major felony for any adult caught providing drugs to anyone under the age of eighteen.

This republic will not survive the continued neglect of its people.- Neal Boortz.

what about those parents who

what about those parents who use illegal drugs, what should happen to the kids?

The problem with the war on drugs, it isn't a war.  If it was we would be taking it much more serious than we are.  I don't subscribe to the defeatist attitude, we can't do it so just make it legal.  Its the same argument liberals make with the war in Iraq.  "We can't win, so pull out"

Drugs should remain illegal.  Using it should be cause to lose your kids, until you are clean.  Selling drugs should be a felony, using it should be ignored unless there are kids involved.

CV,I understand your sentimen

CV,

I understand your sentiment, but as a libertarian who believes in ultimate freedom, and that includes the freedom to destroy ones life if one wishes, as well as the freedom to fail financially/economically as well, I have a huge problem with government telling people what they can and cannot put into their bodies, period. I also have an equal problem with government forcing me to receive injections for any diseases unless it is demonstrated that I am a direct risk to other people.

I belong to me, not to the government. As a libertarian, I believe that government's only role in my life is to ensure that my rights are protected. The role of government should not ever become one of trying to save people from themselves. Once that road is taken, the ultimate destination is tyranny.

We have a law here in Georgia that does not allow sales of alcohol on Sundays because a handfull of Baptist ministers (who probably have well-stocked bars in their homes) decided that they did not want people bying alcohol-a legal product-on a Sunday.

Does that sound like freedom to you? It doesn't to me. Too many people in this country spend far, far too much time concerning themselves with what others are doing. Unless someone is engaged in an activity that poses a threat to other people's well-being, lives or property, they should be left alone.

I don't know if you have noticed, but we did not have a drug problem in this country until the government began outlawing them, all because some people decided they didn't like what others were doing.

This republic will not survive the continued neglect of its people.- Neal Boortz.

CV/Dave R --thanks-- my status now--

CV/Dave R --thanks-- my status now--I was firmly entrenched in CVs position. I believe that drugs are evil and they destroy lives. I have come , in recent observations and unfortunately, family situations, to the conclusion that the illegal status has created more damage than it has ever prevented. I cannot believe, based on my once very strong opposition to legalization, that I am no longer opposed. I have seen too many of our young people in serious trouble and winding up with felony records and ruined lives due to existing laws. I can cite cases of nice, but weak, young people who have little to look forward to because of their records. They will never work at Home Depot or any number of career positions because of experimentation with drugs. I once stood and said --"they are the ones to decide-they make the choice". No longer.  I was recently told by a young friend of my son's, when I talked to him about his life, "I am addicted, I fight it every day. I fall off and go back when there are problems in my life. Hell, Mister M, I was introduced to meth when I was only 13." My son has experienced some of the same situations. This same young fellow, a very nice young man, has 2 drug convictions. His own brother assisted in entrapment of him in order to escape a long term prison sentence. His second conviction was for theft--he stole money from a drug dealer. When his life was threatened, he turned himself into the police. He told them what he had done. The police charged him with Theft by Taking, a felony. There never was a complaint from the dealers. This young man is trying to find a decent job so he can pay his fines (He has to pay the county, the money he took from the drug dealer.) I challenge the justice meted out in this situation. It is easy to sit back and moralize--:well he did this, he did that, he deserves punishment."  In my opinion, if he wasn't introduced to the drug at 13, if he could go to a state, county or city facility and get mathadone or whatever helps, he would be a responsible working citizen in this area. Or, as Dave said and I agree, he will slide into the gutter on his own. It should be his choice. As a parent of a child with a drug conviction, I can tell you, the conviction ids no help to his addiction. All it does is to keep him, just as his friend , unable to find decent work. What a tragic waste of our youth.

In closing, I weep for the ruined lives of the young folks who have been caught in this horrible trap. I grew up in a drug free age (at least where and when I was a youth).

PS I also suggest that the music and the movies that our kids see are definitely strong negative influences on their lives. Drugs, sex, violence and profanity are glorified.

It rips my heart out

misterbill; The unintended consequences of living in a society of users and predators, those who are wounded or weak are the prey of the lowest common denominator in society. A 13-year-old boy is too young to know why he is not immortal and why some things cannot be repaired.

It rips my heart out to hear of these stories and how children are directed towards and reinforced by a “culture of death”.

DaveR

Dave I agree with you 100%. The war on drugs the current way is hopeless. If you don' mind me saying so I am surprised hearing this from  a "i'm assuming" proBush kind of guy. This is not a snide remark, I just want to know. If you are a Libertarian doesn't the  democratic party  support your positions more than he republican?

There is not much chance of decriminalizing drugs with the current adminstration.

"you people"

Heck, shawn, the only thing you left out is the "you people."

proBush automatically = pro war on drugs?  Aren't you practicing the same kind of generalization you complain is directed your way?

RJ

I specificly said, I'm assuming. I have read many of Daves post in the past and in most of them he post with on the side of our President, If that is not the case all he has to do is say so. I never once said he is a Republican, I said pro bush.

You missed my point, shawn

You missed my point, shawn.   I said nothing about Dave's political affilitation or Rebublicans.

I was commenting on your equating being proBush with automatically being pro war on drugs.

War on Drugs

I know that California has overwhelmingly approved medicinal marijuana, but the feds keep raiding the dispenseries. I don't have a link that shows Bush is personally responsible for this, but he does put lots of money toward the war drugs.

????

????

I too believe in many of the

I too believe in many of the libertarian ideals.  For example I disagree with seatbelt laws, as much as I believe in seat belt safety, why does the government need to bonk people on the head for it?  Or speed laws.  Where I struggle with, by making it legal will it be harder to take kids away from drug addicts?  Will it sanction the behavior?  The latter concern isn't as big of a concern, because I recognize there is still a society taboo to be a drunk.  The idea that its too hard of a battle, so lets give up is not an argument...if it is a righteous war, then wage it.

Though I do think we should have reform our prisons and drug laws.  Those who commit violent crimes should be caged like animals.  Those who are addicts, should lose their kids, they are in their own prison.  Those who commit white collar crimes or non-violent crimes should give community service.  It would be better for the Enron employees to have to work a soup line then be in prison.  ( Or be required to teach 8th grade ).  Prisons should be not fun.  No TVs no magazines, a library with classics and self help books, and material to get their high school diploma or learn a trade.  It is wrong that inmates who are there due to a sex crime are allowed porn.  And how do we fight the drug war?  Well I do think it is a problem that we can search and seizure based on a gut feeling...as there are corrupt government officials.  But we should be stopping drug traffic over the border, and we should go after dealers, and again remove kids in the care of a drug user until they are proven clean and sober.

CV - I am still a little unsure--

CV  - I am still a little unsure--I have in very recent days done a ton of reading on the subject of legalization of drugs. Let me iterate my position--the main reason,(and possibly in my confused mind, the only reason), I am in favor of legalization is the stigma and ruined lives of a felon. My recent reads say that the danger of legal drugs is an increase in users and addicts. The advantages (again, I am but a humble reader of these data) include a significant rduction in crime. I have read no rebuttals of these two facts. I have also done some deep reading on Meth and the general agreement is that many people are addicted the first time they use meth. In the personal case that I cited , the young man was introduced to meth at age 13.

I am open to any input that will explain to me how kids are better off with a felony record versus an employer who does random drug testing. Who do we find and punish for giving the preteens the drug in the first place? How do we find and punish? IMHO, very little has been accomplished re: those whose life business is selling drugs. A large number of kids are in jail for using the drugs. Will accomplishing the previous "fix" the young person's drug habit? Alcohol is a drug. If I sit home and drink until I pass out every night, will I be arrested? If I am stopped on the way home and I have 2 fifths of bourbon unopened in the car, will I go to jail?

Again, just to be sure everyone understands my position--I do not know if drugs should be legalized--I just believe that destroying a life because of the law seems very Draconian to me now. A change in the law may be the solution????

Felony vs. misdemeanor??? These are questions in my mind.

misterbill, I answered your c

misterbill, I answered your concerns, in that I agree that it shouldn't be a felony for using...but you should lose your kids until you are proven to be clean and sober.  And it should remain a felony to sell drugs, especially to minors.

"The power to tax is t

"The power to tax is the power to destroy." (And, if you look to the history of drug laws and expanding big government under the New Deal, you'll find that the first post-alcohol prohibition antidrug laws were in essence draconian tax-laws meant -- as with very-similar tax-laws regarding the private transfer of fully-automatic machineguns -- to prohibit or virtually-prohibit because the Supremes suddenly allowed prohibitive-level taxes.)
JMR

On my opposition...

Why am I opposed to the legalization of drugs?  Simple.  I like the idea of the United States progressing and being on the cutting edge of civilization.

The countries that have decriminalized drugs all have a commonality: They Are Going Nowhere.  (And they are very comfortable with that.)

Illegal Immigration

This item on Fox News.com from AP is titled "Local Immigration Laws Bring High Costs".  The title makes you think the law itself is what is costing the community a lot.  No, read on.  It is the ACLU lawsuits that are costing the communities.  The ACLU is using the same tactics it uses on school boards and other small government entities - bankrupt them or threaten to bankrupt them until they back down.  The headline is disingenuous.

My thought for the day is to be--

My thought for the day is to be--found in Sir Walter's words:

BREATHES there the man with soul so dead,

Who never to himself hath said,

'This is my own, my native land!'

Whose heart hath ne'er within him burn'd

As home his footsteps he hath turn'd

From wandering on a foreign strand?

If such there breathe, go, mark him well;

For him no Minstrel raptures swell;

High though his titles, proud his name,

Boundless his wealth as wish can claim;

Despite those titles, power, and pelf,

The wretch, concentred all in self,

Living, shall forfeit fair renown,

And, doubly dying, shall go down

To the vile dust from whence he sprung,

 Unwept, unhonour'd, and unsung

Abortion and the Republican Debate

Re: Roger the Shrubber Said:

May 4, 2007 - 10:59

Quite honestly, the people who are going to use abortion as the
litmus test on who should be president are a bit myopic. I made a quick
list of issues that are much more important than abortion:

1. Iraq

2. War on Terror/Homeland Security

3. Economy

4. Immigration

5. Taxes

6. Gas/Fuel prices

7. Gov't corruption

8. Social Security

9. Health Care

10. Trade/Foreign policy

Issues #6-10
are interchangeable to me. Abortion isn't even on the radar. Neither is
gun control or drug legalization or gay marriage, etc. There's much
bigger fish to fry.

---

I disagree. I think the most important issues are
those that involve the deaths of Americans:

1. Abortion = 50 million+ dead

2. The War = 3500+ dead

3. Terrorism = 3000+ dead

4. Health Care = ??

Then comes the others:

5. Immigration = 20 Million+ illegals

6. Fuel Prices = $3.00 /Gal+

7. Taxes/IRS

8. Economy

9. Trade

10. Judicial Reform/Activist Judges

As long as spending continu

As long as spending continually doesn't make either top-ten, we're on the same course as usual. And another thing, had Chris Matthews said "oh, God" about ANY other candidate invoking the original intent of the US Constitution, someone on the masthead woulda gone nuts by now. Instead, total silence...But the editor of the excellent Youtube clip made Matthews' bias all-too-clear to anyone willing to listen.

Not by a long shot.

Segolene Royal was going to slam France into the ground.  Sarkozy will merely struggle with the controls as the French state crashes anyway.

The instant Sarkozy tries to reform France, the population there will SCREAM in agony, as those spoiled children cannot begin to imagine a world without the state constantly coddling and pampering them.  So the riots will begin, and Sarkozy will be as inneffectual as Chirac.
