And care to elaborate how you are going to shove the bill down the President’s throat when he has the ability to veto it?

Gloves off
May 1, 2007 - 10:58 ET by JimboThere has been much discussion around here about the President taking the gloves off since he has nothing to lose. In my opinion, they should have come off immediately after winning his second term, and if not after the mid terms. He, in my opinion, is at a point where he needs to do it right now or don’t bother. If the liberal attacks go unchecked any further, he will lose all credibility, even with those who still support him.

Good overview of Che
May 1, 2007 - 12:50 ET by Carl KolchakHere is a good overview of Che from an indepedent organization.
Checkout this quote from the link.
"Che’s obsession with collectivist control led him to collaborate on the formation of the security apparatus that was set up to subjugate six and a half million Cubans. In early 1959, a series of secret meetings took place in Tarará, near Havana, at the mansion to which Che temporarily withdrew to recover from an illness. That is where the top leaders, including Castro, designed the Cuban police state. Ramiro Valdés, Che’s subordinate during the guerrilla war, was put in charge of G-2, a body modeled on the Cheka. Angel Ciutah, a veteran of the Spanish Civil War sent by the Soviets who had been very close to Ramón Mercader, Trotsky’s assassin, and later befriended Che, played a key role in organizing the system, together with Luis Alberto Lavandeira, who had served the boss at La Cabaña. Guevara himself took charge of G-6, the body tasked with the ideological indoctrination of the armed forces. The U.S.-backed Bay of Pigs invasion in April 1961 became the perfect occasion to consolidate the new police state, with the rounding up of tens of thousands of Cubans and a new series of executions. As Guevara himself told the Soviet ambassador Sergei Kudriavtsev, counterrevolutionaries were never “to raise their head again.”"

May 1, 2007 - 11:29 ET by Dan The Man 2I heard it also and it was pretty much one sided. There was no debate just a statement of facts by teh US military spokesman and a retired US military saying the military is setting low goals and letting those without high school education in. Of course NPR took the retired guys as facts and did not question any of it. NPR said the quality of the soldier is going down but had no hard facts as to what quality meant.
Nuke em til they glow then shoot em in the dark. -- save my gun, shoot a liberal.
Did you really listen to this
May 1, 2007 - 13:32 ET by j. frank wilsonDid you really listen to this show? NPR cited fact after fact - more people accepted without a high school diploma, more people accepted with a criminal record, reduced entrance exam scores required to join, approximately one-half the number of African-American enlistees, what was it - $1 Billion - spent on re-enlistment and signing bonuses (up to $40K per person).
F-A-C-T-S.
The "retired guy" was Gen. Barry McCaffrey (sp?) who stated that one can now enlist in the US Military for the first time at age 42 (does that mean Sheer Insanity still has a crack at a military career?). Are you saying that is not true?
The NPR piece quoted the Pentagon's head of personnel (hope I got that title correct) for his side of the story. Of course there was "no debate." It is a news piece - not the Sabbath gasbags (thank you Calvin Trillan) going at it.
Gen. McCaffrey said the US Military is sand-bagging the enlistment goals. We've seen evidence of reduced goals that can be met.
We'll know the quality of those enlisting in what - five years? And if the news isn't good, what can be done about it by then?
In the meantime, the story is available for anyone to listen.

May 1, 2007 - 11:56 ET by Airforce_5_OSleeping Beauty, Tom Thumb, and Quasimodo were all talking one day.Sleeping Beauty said, "I believe myself to be the most beautiful girl in the world."
Tom Thumb said, "I must be the smallest person in the world."
Quasimodo said, "I absolutely have to be the most disgusting person in the world." So they all decided to go to the Guinness Book of World Records to have their claims verified.
Sleeping Beauty went in first and came out looking deliriously happy. "It's official, I AM the most beautiful girl in the world."
Tom Thumb went next and emerged triumphant, "I am now officially the smallest person in the world."
Sometime later, Quasimodo comes out looking utterly confused and says. "Who the Hell is Rosie O'Donnell ?"

May 1, 2007 - 11:57 ET by RJThis woman's experience is what the socialist left has in store for us under the guise of "environmentalism."
http://ellsworthmaine.com/site/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=7446&Itemid=31
Synopsis: Brandy Bridges wanted to save money by replacing all the bulbs in her home with the small spiral flourescents (CFLs). She broke one and called Home Depot for advice. They do not vacuum the area and call Poison Control.
Poison Control directed her to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Environmental Protection.
DEP sent a "specialist" to measure mercury levels. He found a spike of nearly 7 times the safe level of mercury and told her she needed to get another specialist to clean it up. This was done at a cost of $2,000 (plus the future cost of new carpeting and other items in the room). A month later, her daughter's bedroom remains sealed off with plastic.
A spokesperson for Maine’s Public Utilities Commission said if properly cared for, the bulbs “shouldn’t have immediate health risks.”
But Bridges said she is wondering why the DEP “publicly recanted the statement” it made to an area newspaper, in which DEP officials said it was safe to clean up the CFL bulbs using household materials.
And she’s worried about the mixed messages she's been given, with “the state downplaying the threat of mercury and not letting people know the dangers coming from one bulb” and “telling everybody to clean it up themselves.”
And there, folks, is the future the socialists have arranged for us....

The blog decried the fact that some libs were giving her a free pass and rationalizing on her lack of ethics. I read an article (AP) about her resigning today. It got me thinking that she actually worked her way up the ladder to be a Dean without a college education. I kind of confirmed my belief that except for a very few occupations, a college education is worthless and a waste of money.

Reid, leave the senate. Sen
May 2, 2007 - 04:05 ET by Andrew H.Reid, leave the senate.
Senator Reid—you’ve taken enough for America. Senators Feinstein and Boxer—you’ve taken enough. Along with John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, Obama, Schumer, Levin, Harkins, Clinton, Durbin and Leahy, you people have done enough damage. Yes, damage. You claim concern and you claim a desire to set everything right in America—but you don’t set anything right. You hurt the cause of freedom at home and abroad. You cause children to be killed. You cause young people to feel hopeless without intervention of government programs that never work but do create a dependency. Bill Clinton, you and your wife have done enough damage. The appointment of Ruth Ginsberg has hurt the country. Your envy for power has yielded bad or no results. All you’ve done is cost us a lot more.
When abortion is your most important mantra, one of your most important issues, can you not see the foolishness? Can you not feel the grime, the blood, the brain tissue sticking to you? Do you have to wash your body several times each day? Republican Party—you’ve done damage too. By being so agreeing with Ginsberg, you’ve set the Supreme Court to back death for a generation. Thanks a lot for going along—and almost as tragically, thinking the Democratic Party would return the favor someday. Thanks a lot for being weak politicians who seem more interested in your personal wealth than the constituents and the states you represent. The Democrats have not returned any favor since the Mondale years and they won’t. When will you ever learn? Or can’t you? Get off your ass and fight these liberals and their lunacy. Can you not see what is happening to the country?
Now the senate majority leader has said the war is lost. That’s news. That’s real news. No one in the world who is not a liar has found that to be true. Al Qaeda knows it is a lie. Thousands of them have been killed. No, it is you, Mr. Reid, who is lost. Giving aid and comfort to the enemy—yes, ENEMY—is the worst thing a politician can do in a time of war. How dare you. I didn’t respect you before you said that, now I can say without hesitation, that I dislike you with a passion. I want to see you go. You need to be taken out of office.
Retire with your millions like so many politicians do—we just know it is mostly a result of dealings in Washington. Don’t play us for fools any longer. We know what it is there—and we know who pays or ultimately pays your sorry ass. It is the Americans who work and provide for their families through higher prices for food, housing, insurance and of course, higher taxes to the government is you have your way—and you probably will because the GOP is not much more than a weak sister. We know what it is for most of you—it is corruption and payoffs—it is the greedy bastards who take donations to be elected time and again. It is people like you selling influence to pass bills on behalf of the donors for your continued public employment. That would be regardless of whether you have even a shadow of a moral compass. Of course, you don’t.
So we know what you are, Reid. You were elected to represent the people but you do not represent all of them. You choose to only represent those who pay you, the special interest groups who pay you and the corporations who pay you. The rest of us be damned. The rest of our ideas are damned. To hell with our sense of propriety, decency, common sense, truth. Be damned with all of that. Instead, gin up that ruinous liberal caucus because while your corporate donors sleep, the special interests must be served with all energy and dispatch.
When you people begin micro-managing a war, we lose. It happened in Viet Nam and it is happening again. It doesn’t matter whose son or daughter is killed—they’re not important to you. Power is important to you. Through power you raise more money from the scared leftist wing-bats and with more money, you can buy—I don’t know—more houses, more cars? I more than dislike you, Reid. People like you get people killed. People like you join the chorus for the continued holocaust of the unborn. People like you steal from everyone.
Your own avarice will be your downfall. At some point you will answer—and have no choice but to tell the truth. The truth isn’t very good for you or your side. You will account for your deeds… so will I... everyone will.
In the meantime, you and the others leech. You never acknowledge abortion is killing. You seem to think we’re not at war. You choose carefully crafted language to tell us you’re going to tax us as high as you can—you fraud. It doesn’t matter to you that lower taxes has resulted in more revenue (a fact). Every time the democrats raise taxes, it is not only the “rich” who pays more—we all are made to suffer. You want to expand government—what does it make and sell? You believe in making more laws that restrict freedom, even in thought and words.
You must believe the country is a bottomless well of money to be collected for your benefit—buying votes at home—buying votes nationally. You take away rights of the states. You allow the invasion of illegal immigrants and then court them as a constituency—because legal or not, they’ll vote for you. Our country suffers as we are forced to pay their medical—the same health care one of yours, Edwards, has lied and legally extorted millions from the industry—of course it is the rest of us who pays because of the higher costs and higher insurance premiums. We elect you to make things worse by kissing up to corrupt trial lawyers like Edwards.
You caucus with the politically correct. You invent what is, what is not. And you carry on your march toward socialism at warp speed. The GOP is merely a speed bump along the way for you and the other democrats.
But you’ll be rich. The rest of us will be made poor. You don’t care. We know you don’t care. Since you don’t even consider troops fighting a war against Al Qaeda and Islamic fascism on our behalf as important, we know you don’t care about any of us or anything beyond what’s in it for you. We are but lowly citizens and this one citizen has had enough.
You need to leave. Just go—you engaged in an experiment, took the money—now just leave. You’re bad for the country. It is time to call the vulgar, non-thinking, uncaring left what it is—it is a collection of people who do not produce anything good, anything of value—vapid killers of babies, hope and freedom. You’re part of it, Reid. You need to go. It’ll be a start. Others need to follow you out.
Liberalism is a convenient lie.

May 2, 2007 - 07:10 ET by whodatThe Democrats are making a great deal of hay out of saying we have to get out of Iraq, and indeed we do at some point or another, but the notion that the war will be over when we pull out of Iraq, and even after we pull out of Afghanistan? You heard what General Abizaid had to say. It's not going to be over. It's going to be a different war, but the war continues. You know, language means something. You said something a moment ago about it is the Democrats' goal to have all the troops out of Iraq by August of 2008. Sometimes goals are met. Sometimes goals are not met. The Democrats are going to find themselves in a terribly uncomfortable position when this becomes their war.
RUSH: Well, they think they can always make it Bush's war, but he's right on the money. Words mean things; language means things. The Democrats own defeat in this war. Right now that's just not been firmly established in people's minds because Bush remains the focal point as the commander-in-chief. But the Democrats are doing their best -- well, actually, they don't want to own the war. They want Bush to get out of there before they become president. Hillary Clinton even said that she would resent it if Bush doesn't wrap this Iraq thing up by the time she is inaugurated in 2009. I wonder if she'll be similarly upset if Bush didn't wrap up this Iranian thing by then; if he doesn't wrap up the North Korean thing by then; if he doesn't wrap up the Venezuelan thing by then; if he doesn't wrap up the China problems that we have by then. I wonder if she wants a clean slate. I think this is just absurd. In the Los Angeles Times today, there is a very strange editorial it's worth noting. If the American people understood what the Times editorial is saying, that the bill the Democrats are talking about is simply nothing more than a bill... All of their resolutions are nothing more than part of the electoral partisan process, and that's the point this LA Times editorial makes, that their resolutions and their bills really have little to do with defeat. (I will distance myself a bit from this. I do think the Democrats are trying to secure defeat, but that's part of electoral partisan politics as well as they aim for the next election.) As far as the Democrats are concerned, nothing better could happen than for us to lose the war in Iraq and have the Republicans and Bush be blamed for it, meaning the Democrats get to sit here with open arms and sweep in all the voters. But this is not about winning the war. It's not about the military serving and doing so with valor and honor. This is about Democrats trying to enhance their electoral chances, and the LA Times has figured it out. “Congress can cut funding for Iraq, but it shouldn't micromanage the war.” In fact, the title of their editorial is: "Do We Really Need a Gen. Pelosi?"
Last paragraph of this editorial: "Members of Congress need to act responsibly, debating the essence of the choice the United States now faces — to stay or go — and putting their money where their mouths are. But too many lives are at stake to allow members of Congress to play the role of Eisenhower or Lincoln." We'll link to the editorial at RushLimbaugh.com. If you care, you can read the entire thing. Speaking of Pelosi, "A few dozen peace activists marched across the Golden Gate Bridge and gathered outside the San Francisco home of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Sunday, demanding that Congress stop funding the war in Iraq. 'San Francisco has been against this war from the very beginning,' said Toby Blome, a physical therapist who organized the event. 'This is our fifth year of the war, and Nancy needs to wake up and represent San Franciscans.' Blome, holding a plate of cheese and bread and a glass of wine, was stopped on her way to Pelosi's front door and told the speaker would not see them. Blom and about 10 other activists said they plan to camp outside the residence overnight." These babes are from Code Pink. (story) At any rate, they're having a wine and cheese party. I'm sure it was Chablis. Well, it might have been something else. They're having a wine and cheese party while they're protesting, walking across the Golden Gate Bridge to Pelosi's San Francisco residence.
