With co-host Whoopi Goldberg on the set, the ladies of "The View" continued to discuss the Imus controversy on the April 20 show. Goldberg felt strongly that Imus deserved at least a strong suspension and noted that, while all Americans have free speech, our words can still have consequences. The guest co-host then went through a long list of celebrities whose careers were damaged from inflammatory statements. Rosie responded with another one of her scary predictions and Joy Behar reacted with the "Nazi Germany" card.
ROSIE O’DONNELL: I think racist is one thing. But when people start to say this person has a dissenting political opinion, therefore we want them off the air. That's when we're in dangerous territory. That’s what I think.
JOY BEHAR: Well, then you’re in Nazi Germany.
Maybe Rosie should realize it’s not about simply a "dissenting opinion," but about floating crackpot conspiracy theories as well as anti-Asian and anti-Catholic remarks.

April 20, 2007 - 15:45 ET by HypocriteHaterI heard her talking to Opie and Anthony on their radio show about the firing of Imus that she was in favor of. She was asked to comment on the Ted Danson blackface incident, and she hung up on them! WTF?! Why is she so afraid to comment on that? I'm sure something was said to the View gals that they shouldn't bring it up.

Rosie
April 20, 2007 - 14:23 ET by allanfI think Rosie and Joy need a lesson on the First Amendment and World History. The First Admendment prohibits the government from regulationg politcal speech. That stood for almost 115 years until the US Supreme Court decided McCain-Feingold was constitutional.
Rosie works for a private employer. Depending on her contractual relationship, the employer is free to fire her for mistatements or other inappropriate behavior. It has nothing to do with the First Amendment.
As far as Joy Behar goes, it is hard to be sillier. The United States is a country with a 200 year tradition of strong democratic institutions and three independent branches of government. Germany had no such democratic history when it fell into the clutches of a madman.

April 20, 2007 - 14:58 ET by dscottUmm, Rosie, reality check, ok you can put on the rose colored glasses if it is too graffic for you. If this country were on the same order of control as Nazi Germany, you would not only be extremely afraid to say such a thing on TV, you would have been hauled out by the scruff of your neck, beaten repeatedly by a rather sinister looking person while sitting in a hard wooden or steel chair and then if they felt a little merciful, you would have been shot in the head instead of repeated lengthy torture sessions.
BTW-Saddam's henchmen did this as a matter of routine, Nazi Germany was their model and Hitler was admired by Saddam. But hey, we're the bad guys in your eyes and Bush is Hitler because we got rid of the tyrant terrorizing his own population. Go figure??? I guess Uday and Usay were little angels in your eyes, huh?

April 20, 2007 - 15:01 ET by Ten7sThe Left is constantly on the march against freedom, and 'Political Correctness' is a real and present danger to each and every citizen. Though ostensibly illegal given our 1st Amendment freedoms, this creeping totalitarianism is widely accepted practice in both private and public organizations, from Corporation to Gov't Agency. In a chilling development in Europe, they've just brought forth legislation to jail and/or shun (strip a citizen of the right to work, vote, gov't benefits, put on probation, etc.) for "Offences concerning racism and xenophobia".

April 20, 2007 - 15:02 ET by QueenMumFor cryin' out loud, when is someone going to take these hags to task and explain the difference between the government and the free people of America. The U.S. government did not fire Imus. And neither Al Sharpton nor Jessie Jackson represent the U.S. government either. The thinking behind O'Donnell and Behar's remarks is totally convoluted.
Rosie is just fine with the idea that we need to worry about Catholics on the Supreme Court. Isn't that the sort of "concern" that the Nazis had about the Jews? Besides, this constant use of the word "Nazi" by the left is demeaning to everyone who suffered in and from the Holocaust. The buffoons on "The View" have trivialized the word by using it to describe any sort of sensible cultural or moral limitation on behavior which the majority of Americans might find offensive or unacceptable. I'd say the far left is more akin to the Nazis. After all, aren't they the ones who find it acceptable to murder unborn children - even in the most barbaric way possible - because those children are not considered to have the same value as their mothers, merely because these children aren't yet "perfect" human beings?

April 20, 2007 - 15:09 ET by dscottIt's of little historical note that the liberals of this country hailed the coming of Eugenics, Authoritarianism and Hilter until he double crossed Uncle Joe Stalin. Pay no attention to history, we love to take the same ride over and over again.

April 21, 2007 - 02:18 ET by jmad627Hi QueenMum,
You are making some excellent points, Because I'm a little confused. Aren't Imus, Wosie O'dimwit, Joyless Behar, and the racist race hustlers Revs. Sharpton, & Jackson liberals? Didn't Sharp/Jack protest & demand that Imus be fired? Are the Revrend's behaving in a Nazi fashion by their actions?
You are so correct. These liberals accuse anyone, mostly conservative white republicans, of being Nazis at the drop of a hat, for daring to disagree with them, and the Nazi label is applied quite, for lack of a better word, liberally.
If the U.S.A. were the Nazi-Germany type of society, described by these liberals, the above mentioned liberals would be either soap, or a lampshade by now IMHO.

They need to revisit the case of Dr. Laura Schlessinger, who's syndicated radio program was terminated before it even began when gay groups coordinated to swamp radio stations with E-threats should her show air.
If this is how Behar defines Nazi Germany, it's already here.

Actually, it looks to me like they get it! The networks were within their rights to fire Imus. (I wonder how much Jackson and his rainbow crowd hauled off in this raid on free speech.)
The View has every right to be nervous, but it is of their(the left) own making. If their ratings are low enough, as were Imus' they could get shuffled off to buffalo. Hey, did anyone ever wonder why so much bad news comes out of buffalo? Una-bomber, terrorist cells....huh! Close to the Canadian line?
We are being cowered by lack of confidence in our own system. Let the ladies have their say, we gave it to them back there somewhere about 1900 and we have to live with that, until it comes to chosing to kill the unborn. That is a baby, and we have one that was born at 9 ounces to prove it and she is still alive!

April 20, 2007 - 20:30 ET by pbthinkerAs Imus proved, you're free to say what you want, let's face it, he's not in jail, but you aren't guaranteed a job or the airtime to say things like that. The things that Rosie's said are ignorant and insulting, to a vast majority of people in the United States. It seems she's trying to lobby now, to be able to continue to insult people with her ignorant comments. My guess is, there will come a time when, she'll cross a line that, even the sponsors won't like.

April 21, 2007 - 03:53 ET byI am a little different than the average Conservative on this issue. Though, I do not like what Rosie says on most issues, I feel the only thing that she has said that should get her kicked off the air, is the treasonous comments that she has made against our country, as such is against the US Constitution. (I feel that we should all be calling the sponsors of “The View,” about those comments.)
She is a comedian-has-been, who does not even have the brains to know what her body parts are for and does not even have the sense to hide her perverted shame.
But she has a right to speak her beliefs, as we do ours, no matter how hypocritical many of her's are.

Question
April 21, 2007 - 13:32 ET by goldenthroatI see your point, Debra, but that is the very platform that left-coast, bleeding-heart, 'do-as-I-say-and-not-as-I-do' liberals use to vilify Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Glenn Beck and others who have just as much right to voice their opinions as they do.
What riles them is that it is NOT the liberal viewpoint - therefore, it can be restricted or eliminated. And yes, "The View" ought to be inundated with emails and phone calls calling for The Mouth's firing. She has gone completely over the edge and Baba Wawa is too stinkin' naive to see what the long term effects at her own network will be as a result of this fat lesbo's irresponsible, inflamatory, idiotic, and non-factual rhetoric.
Never dance on an empty stomach unless it's a liberal.

April 22, 2007 - 11:21 ET by Gat New YorkDebra, as you have seen there are limits to free speech. There have been a number of comments by O'Donnell and Behar have significantly crossed that line.
