On the April 16 edition of "The View," Rosie O’Donnell responded to Tom DeLay’s call for her firing by asserting we’re "entering dangerous territory" against free speech. Apparently, free speech does not extend to Mr. DeLay’s right to call for her firing. Rosie also tried to clarify her anti-Asian remarks noting she made a joke, and Don Imus did not.
ROSIE O’DONNELL: I don’t feel concerned, but I will tell you this. I think we're in dangerous territory when people like Tom DeLay a man of high moral standards, [laughter] when people like Tom DeLay want me to be fired for my political opinions. That's a dangerous state of affairs here in democracy. If you have a dissenting opinion, you know, that you are somehow a threat to the country or the world, if you want to bring up a subject or question something in our government or that our government is doing you're somehow not patriotic and therefore should be off the air. That’s when we’re–
BARBARA WALTERS: Is that the reasoning that he’s giving?
O’DONNELL: Well, first he said that she was so very offensive to the Chinese people because he's been really so supportive and encouraging of the plight of the Chinese in America his who life and career, Mr. DeLay. [laughter and applause] When I made that joke, the point of the joke being the absurdity of a Danny DeVito being drunk story being international news. So there’s a joke that the point of the joke was the absurdity of a drunk actor making the international news in other countries. Calling someone descriptions -- Imus didn't make a joke. That wasn't a joke. That was name calling.
Echoing left wing smear sites, Rosie noted Rush Limbaugh in passing, but specifically singled out Bill O’Reilly inquiring, "why isn’t he thrown off?"
ROSIE O’DONNELL: But if you listen to what Rush Limbaugh says on his radio show
JOY BEHAR: Yes, listen to him.
O’DONNELL: If you listen to Bill O'Reilly, the horrific things that he says and names he calls people why isn't he thrown off?
Barbara Walters noted that Bill O’Reilly has not made racist remarks. Rosie would not give O'Reilly the same benefit of the doubt she just pleaded for and noted an alleged anti-Mexican slur in the past.
BARBARA WALTERS: Bill O'Reilly has not made racist remarks. Political opinions --
O’DONNELL: Bill O'Reilly has not made racist remarks? He's called Mexicans wet backs. That's a racist remark, wet backs.

Bill once, when referring to the coyotes who profit in the human smuggling of illegals, incorrectly called them wetbacks, and then corrected himself by calling them coyotes, which is the word he was looking for. He mispoke. Never did he refer to all Mexicans as wetbacks. However, if folks want to believe he was calling coyotes wetbacks, I have no problem with that. Frankly, they deserve to be called worse. It would make sense, however, that Rosie would stand up for the poor, misunderstood human smuggling coyotes, just like she does for the terrorist enemies of the USA.
"I bet Rosie - just like Letterman has never seen his show and just spouts off based on rumors."
Rosie got her info from a Howard Kurtz piece. Kurtz was on the Radio Factor today and pretty much stated he was wrong for the implications made about Bill in that article.

Good for Kurtz for acknowledging he made a mistake. Rosie hopped on it before checking it out. Once again, she got something wrong. Once again, she looks foolish and ill-informed. It's YOUR reputation, Rosie. Protect it by getting the facts right.

Having witnessed how O'Donnell mixes facts and attributes them to people or places that were never associated with them , it wouldn't surprise me if she mixed O'Reilly up with someone else.

April 16, 2007 - 15:59 ET by Mean Gene Dr. LoveIt was ridiculous for Delay to say what he did. If his advice is taken, this will turn into the biggest tit-for-tat witch hunt. I say, if the networks and sponsors decide that it is no longer profitable to keep a person like Rosie (or anyone else) on the air, then they should have every right to let them go.
I'm sick of everyone thinking they have a right to not be offended. We will always be able to find someone somewhere that gets offended. People need to understand that this is the real world grow up...and as my grandmother used to say, "grow a thick skin and stop whining!"
When I was in my early twenties, I consciously worked at not getting offended...it's not always easy but, if you try to relax a bit and understand that most "offensive" remarks are a result of anger, frustration, or lack of education, and you do not quickly react to those remarks, they usually go away. I've found that by ignoring offensive comments I hold fewer (if any) grudges, and I'm typically happier than I used to be.

1.) Political speech is protected? Very good. But since when is saying "chong chong" a political statement?
2.) If Limbaugh or O'Reilly or anyone on that side of the spectrum had said "chong chong" in any context, would that have been protected speech, too, or is it only protected when certain people say it?
3.) So saying "chong chong" is like possession of a gun. Certain body guards are allowed to carry but other people are not?
4.) Do co-hosts have rights of free speech, too? Or only when they concur with your "View"? Otherwise, you get to silence them. Is that correct?
5.) Correction. Imus' stupid remarks were said jokingly. So they were a joke. A very bad one but still a joke. (Yes, just like your chong chong comment, Rosie.) You don't get to dictate the characterization of someone's comments.
6.) In sum, "Anything I say is protected speech. Everyone else's words are subject to judgment and silencing."

April 16, 2007 - 18:44 ET by QueenMumBased on what Rosie has said in this particular portion of the transcript, I'd say that she's unaware that DeLay is no longer serving in Congress. She wants to suggest that someone in the "government" is trying to have her removed from the air. That would fit in quite well with her "concerns".
Rosie: Mr. DeLay is an ordinary citizen - just like you. And if he wants to say that he thinks you should be taken off the air, that's his prerogative - just as it's your prerogative to suggest that every time someone hits you in the head with the facts, you think it's further proof of the grand fascist conspiracy to "deprive" you of your rights.
Agree wholeheartedly with awffp.

April 17, 2007 - 14:06 ET by QueenMumAs usual, Rosie counts on the ignorance of her viewers. How many would bother to look further into Rosie's accusation against O'Reilly? I wonder if the viewers realize what Rosie really thinks of them. I'm sure that Rosie heard the entire context of the "wetback" remark and knows that the word was not used in the manner her statement suggests. So she lets it hang out there, as is. And she "worries" about others being intolerant, while at the same time deliberately making inflammatory accusations without the benefit of context.
"The P.U." is nothing more than daytime drama, thinly disguised as a women's forum.

April 16, 2007 - 20:47 ET by w0tmI just read her blog. www.rosie.com. She writes just like she talks! A six year-old
with crayons. And THIS is half of our country's #1 expert on foreign
policy!!??
I used to find all those cartoons with guys carrying
"The End is Near!" signs really funny, whatever the setting or punch
line. After reading Rosie's blog and realizing THIS is what our public
education system has produced (her and 100 million others just like
her), I either want a sharp razor or a sign not saying "The End is
Near!" but, instead, "The End is Here!" All I can think of is Kate
Smith singing "We'll Meet Again" during the closing credits of Dr.
Strangelove as atom bombs destroy the world.
"Oh, The Humanity Of It All!!". Even the Hindenburg had less gas. If
her handlers ever slip on her ropes during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Fifth
Avenue is a gonner!

April 16, 2007 - 21:23 ET by sembyYou know my concern is her children; Rosie is clearly a delusional dysfuncational person. Her rage and anger scare me and many others. God only knows what she puts her own kids through.
The way she is so empathic that she is always right; gives me great concern about the way she may be treating her own children. I think Dyfus in NY should be called and an investigation should be conducted into whether Rosie is fit to be a parent.

April 17, 2007 - 01:14 ET by viluzionI don't ever ask for much, but I have to surf the net on my own time which sometimes is while I am eating. I sure wish I didn't have to look at pictures of Rosie while I am doing so. I always block them when they appear, but a different file name brings another nauseating photo. I need those calories and they are of no benefit to me when I have to flush them.
