Tom DeLay Calls For Conservatives to Take Down Rosie O’Donnell

This is waaaaay too funny, folks, and requires all combustibles, potables, and sharp objects to be properly stowed before proceeding.

In response to the recent brouhaha concerning Don Imus and the Rutgers women’s basketball team, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay has called on “conservatives to use the available media (radio talk shows, blogs, letters to the editor) to protest and demand that Rosie O’Donnell be kicked off The View.”

They didn’t call him “The Hammer” for nothing, folks.

In a piece posted at his blog Wednesday – obviously before CBS radio decided to fire Imus – and deliciously titled “If the Left takes Imus, We’ll take Rosie,” DeLay described this deplorable event in a way that only he could whilst issuing a reciprocal call to arms:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

At some point in the next few days, Don Imus may be fired from his nationally syndicated radio show and television simulcast. He will become that radio guy who got fired for saying something racist. But that won’t be the real reason. Yes, his comments were deplorable, and, especially for a broadcaster of his experience, truly odd. He says it was a misfired joke, and he has apologized, several times, and seems genuinely sorry for letting such a joke cross his lips. But that’s not enough – the Left, true to form, wants him publicly and professionally destroyed.

Trust me – Tom was just getting warmed up (emphasis added throughout):

The message of the ongoing Imus scandal is simple:  Verbal offenses against anyone, other than conservatives or Christians or Jews, will be treated as crimes, and Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are the judge and jury.

Next, much like Jason Whitlock, DeLay went after America’s two most prominent “civil rights leaders":

And let’s not forget about the Dynamic Duo calling for Imus’ resignation. They have their own past offenses, like the anti-Semitic slur used by the Rev. Jesse Jackson, when he referred to New York City as “Hymietown” in a conversation with reporters. His apology? Asking that we charge his head, not his heart. And the most eloquent Rev. Al Sharpton, who was convicted (read: FOUND GUILTY) of libel when he very publicly accused a white assistant district attorney of raping a young black girl, which never happened. They don’t apologize…they run for president of the United States.

Absolutely delicious. But, all of this was beside the point once DeLay set his sights on the real target of his disaffection:

And for the contextual icing on the cake, where are the repercussions for Rosie O’Donnell’s hateful, idiotic accusations that President Bush was behind the 9/11 attacks? And her ignorant parody of the Chinese language? Or her comparison of conservative Christians to Islamo-fascist terrorists? Why has ABC not suspended her from The View? Why has she not been frog-marched up to some radio show to apologize to 9/11 victims/Chinese-American activists/evangelical Christians?

Why indeed. What’s DeLay’s answer:

What the Left is doing is not a fluke – it’s a concerted strategy. And it works. So if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. That’s why I am calling on conservatives to use the available media (radio talk shows, blogs, letters to the editor) to protest and demand that Rosie O’Donnell be kicked off The View. Where are the demonstrations in front of ABC? Where are the boycott threats for The View’s advertisers, or its parent company, Disney? Who is holding Barbara Walters accountable for Rosie’s offenses? We can fight like the Left, too. If Don Imus falls to the pleas of political correctness, we’re taking Rosie O’Donnell down with him.

And that, my fellow conservatives, is how the Left wins. Now it’s our turn. Charge it to our heads, not our hearts.

What was Rosie's well thought out, articulate response to DeLay:

How is Delay a criminal? Was

How is Delay a criminal? Was he convicted of a crime? Has he been shown, on tape taking a bribe or doing some criminal activity? Has he been discovered to have cash in a freezer?

Making specious claims and accusations is wrong. When criminal activity is present and seen, not just alleged, then it is ok to say someone should be investigated, although I would not say that William Jefferson IS a criminal, I would say that he has been seen engaging in criminal activity that can be proven and should be pursued.

When we start throwing around accusations with zero proof, just to mudsling and obfuscate all situations in order to hide what our side is doing... that is wrong. If Delay is found to have committed a crime, I will gladly call for him to be sentenced accordingly, but until such a time where actual claims with any merit at all have been leveled and proven, I will not stand for him to be labeled a criminal.

Be careful of what you wish for!

RJ

RJ,

Actually, you are right, and I think that's the direction this is all going. Now, not only do we have an ideological war in DC, and one in the media, but the latter appears to be morphing into a free speech maelstrom with dire ramifications.

Jefferson, Adams, and Madison must be rolling over in their graves at the current state of affairs in this nation they created.  ns

I tend go with the conspirato

I tend go with the conspiratorial view myself, Don Imus was not a "pure" liberal, he bad mouthed Hillary and some other liberals. He was an equal opportunity hater, so in a sense he was given a pass on his potty mouth for a long time.  I am of the opinion there was a backroom deal with Hillary, Sharpton and Jackson to take Imus out.  Hillary is a vicious person with a long spiteful streek, just ask Vince Foster, oh that's right he's dead.  Also, consider that one of the standing criticizisms of liberals is that they are racist, the libs have to clear out the obvious ones so they can deny it.  They won't ever get rid of Sharpton or Jackson since their racist bigoted hate speech is justified by their victim status.  Imus was not black, he had no cover for it, like Kayne West.

RJ -- we're on a similar wa

RJ -- we're on a similar wavelength.

What I want to see is a real, bonafide conservative who can easily handle that intellectually challenged panel, especially the remarkably thick O'Donnell. She is a truly dim bulb.

A number spring to mind. Laura Ingraham, Melanie Morgan, Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, Monica Crowley, E.D. Hill, Juliette Huddy.

Clearly that would massively increase the viewing figures of the View who want to see a real opposition and dissent against the lib***l orthodoxy.

But the powers that be are only interested in showing an easily shouted down, and rather weak opposition.

Someone who, and let's face, it is not really a conservative, unless anyone that isn't a raving socialist is considered a conservative.

Can someone explain to me how

Can someone explain to me how the Fairness Doctrine would have prevented Imus from making a racial slur?

I mean, it's not like he was going to stop his mouth from running for fear of having to say something nice about black people ...

It has already been happeni

It has already been happening in Washington State. We have two Conservative radio hosts, Kirby Wilbur and John Carlson, that during the last election cycle were forced by the government to list any time they talked about an initiative to stop the 9.5 cent gas tax hike to be listed as an in-kind contribution. This also led to them having to stop talking about the initiative 21 days prior to the election because they would reach the maximum allowable contribution. They are suing over this and it has gone to the Washington State Supreme Court. We are still waiting on a decision and with the make-up of the COurt I will not be surprised if they have to appeal it all the way to the US Supreme Court. Here is some background on it.

Get some less greasy icons, Noel. Rosie hasn't affected the country like Delay has in his own party, Texas and the USA. She's just a morning joke and he's a national republican joke that cost house seats and popular legislation. A rubber stamp to GW.

CX

CX,

I've actually addressed your non sequiturs in the past without any retort on your part. Let's give this one last attempt, shall we, before I cast you off as just another message board troll with nothing to say.

First off, though I normally avoid correcting the spelling of folks at such venues, your demeaning level of condescension and derision should carry with it a greater understanding of the English language than those you are trying to defame. As this is clearly not the case, let me first edit your post here so that in the future when you are trying to come off as being holier-than-thou, you at least will be presenting yourself as less of a miscreant.

With that in mind, let’s go paragraph by paragraph, shall we:

He fired any republican that didn't tow a radical party line, a line which proved to be a lemming walk. I'd call that sensoring of good ideas for power and the destruction of moderate republicans. Remember them?

If you were half as sharp as you pretend, this is how you would have presented those three opening sentences (corrections in bold):

He fired any Republican that didn't toe a radical party line, a line which proved to be a lemming walk. I'd call that censoring of good ideas for power and the destruction of moderate Republicans. Remember them?

Make sense? Let’s continue:

Delay was great at that job. The "hammer" ? how about "the leftover stale ham" ? You'd never buy a used car from this guy when he gets out of the slammer. Jesus is on his side, anyway, in Delay's words. Uhm probably not like Abramoff and Ralph Reed were.

DeLay was great at that job. The "hammer?" How about "the leftover stale ham?" You'd never buy a used car from this guy when he got out of the slammer. Jesus is on his side, anyway, in DeLay's words. Uhm probably not like Abramoff and Ralph Reed were.

Looks better, don’t you think? And, actually makes much more sense grammatically despite the flaws in logic I will get to soon:

Get some less greasy icons, Noel. Rosie hasn't affected the country like Delay has in his own party, Texas and the USA. She's just a morning joke and he's a national republican joke that cost house seats and popular legislation. A rubber stamp to GW.

Get some less greasy icons, Noel. Rosie hasn't affected the country like DeLay has in his own party, Texas and the USA. She's just a morning joke and he's a national Republican joke that cost House seats and popular legislation. He was just a rubber stamp to GW.

Finally:

Do you like the rubber stamps of GW's Delay congress, Noel, and mourn their passing? You can get the same zombie effect by sniffing your stamp ink pad for 20 minutes.

Do you like the rubber stamps of GW's DeLay Congress, Noel, and mourn their passing? You can get the same zombie effect by sniffing your stamp ink pad for 20 minutes.

Ahh. I feel much better.

Now, as for the logic flaws:

  1. Can you name some Republicans that DeLay fired and provide a link supporting each claim?
  2. Would you like to bet that DeLay never spends a day in jail as a result of the current charges against him? Please name a date in the near future when you think he will be in jail by, and I will bet you $1,000 (one-thousand dollars) – assuming your timeframe isn’t preposterous – that you are wrong. Our funds will be placed in an escrow account that we have no access to until we have a winner. Please let me know the date, and your acceptance.
  3. Actually, I would suggest quite fervently that DeLay’s absence in the House cost the Republicans seats, and that if he had never resigned, the GOP would have fared much better last November.
  4. What specific pieces of “popular legislation” were lost during DeLay’s tenure as Majority Leader? Please provide links for all of them.
  5. Actually, I liked Congress signficantly more with him there than without. Tell me exactly what pieces of legislation were enacted by the 109th Congress after DeLay stepped down. Please provide links to all of them.

Furthermore, what has this new Congress achieved? I imagine you haven’t heard that the gang you feel so proud of failed to enact one piece of legislation they campaigned on?

Alas, I doubt that you were aware of that, or if it even matters to you. After all, this isn’t about legislation, is it CX? With your ilk, it’s just about keeping Republicans out of office, for none of you seems to have the foggiest idea what to do once you get there.  ns

Exactly right Noel.Tom Delay

Exactly right Noel.

Tom Delay is the type of Republican we need in Congress.  He is one of the few that aren't spineless and stand-up to the Dem's and media and realize them for the blight that they are on society and this nation.

The reason he is hated and a marked man is because he took it to the Dem's and didn't back down and had to be taken out by them.  Unfortunately no other Republican, including the President, have learned anything from how dangerous and hateful the Dem's are.

As a side note, I've always thought it ironic that Dem's and liberals hate him so much considering he came up the way Dem's describe they help people.  He came from modest mean, worked a blue collar job and worked his way to a successful career and the Dem's hate him for it.

I think that Evan Sayet sai

I think that Evan Sayet said it best when he basically said that Liberals (with a capital L) are indiscriminant to a destructive level.

decency

I believe that in the name of common decency Imus and Stern should have been run off  the air long ago. Not censored, just an outcy from the public. Too bad it took this kind of incident, which came out of modern liberal P.C., to do it. Same for Rosie. Common decency should be the impetus for her removal.  Imus, Stern, and Rosie are irresponsible, juvenile pigs who spew poison and destroy the common good. Only American apathy and the natural lure of the circus keep them and others (like Sharpton and Jackson) going. Why do we always choose the lowest common denominator? This country has so much potential for greatness and it's blowing it, just as others have in the past. Sad.

This country has so much potential for greatness and it's blowing it, just as others have in the past. Sad.

You've hit the nail on the head, ISIA!

Perhaps this whole affair will bring about a change for a more civil discourse on ideas.  Name-calling is so childish.  Imus' humor seems to have been stunted at the junior high school level.  Is it too much to hope that the era of the potty-mouthed ignoramuses is ending?

The one thing I do not want is more regulation - can't our society do something on its own without being told what to do?

Rosie

I watching Rosie hanging upside down, with her fat gut and flabby thigh's and her boobs up around her face...........I don't know what will get her off the airways. that was gross. I couldn't eat for two days after that. Good luck Tom

Not a good idea at all.  I u

Not a good idea at all.  I understand the reasoning behind it, and I agree with it as far as pointing out the hypocrisy and double-standard.  But, doing what the Left likes to do (silence controversial speech) is not something that should be promoted by anyone.  You don't join the actions of the Left, you stop them.

The tough thing in that situation is that one side (the Left) will continue to do it, AND continue to get a free pass (since they own the mainstream media), while traditionalists and other normal people will not do the same thing and when they do, they are crucified for it.  The problem is that the Left can pull us into that tit for tat situation, and go down a road that has no end except for the end of controversial topics being discussed at all, and well before that point, America is no longer the nation we know it's supposed to be.  And, a transformation of America to that level is a victory for the Left, as they hate America as the true arena of freedom was born to be.

Very tough situation to be in, I realize this wholeheartedly, but tit for tat with the Left is simply doing exactly as they want to be done, whether they admit it or not.

So be it.

I think the phrase "free speech" is being used rather too eslactically here. If every owner of a radio station decided to drop all political shows from their programming, it would hardly be a case off mass "censorship" as that is the owners right to exercise their free speech and free enterprise in deciding who to let speak on the stations and programs *they* own.

This is the same corrupted version of freedom of speech Micheal Moore, The Dixie Chicks, Dan Rather and others of their ilk abide by when they complain of "being censored" because others exorcise their rights not to be associated with them or to use the personal and private powers they have to help promote their lunancy. Sometimes the free market means you don't always get to dictate on your terms and/or get exactly what you want entirely free, but of course it always feels good to your ego to cast yourself as some noble hero fighting against oppression whether or not you are being truly "oppressed."  Freedom of speech is a two way street, lest we forget/

I see no problem in going after Rosie's job on the view, if people can can convince ABC to can her not-so-Rosie butt we'll be exercising our rights to protest and ABC would be exercising theirs in deciding they agree with us. The issue is not whether Rosie has the right to say what she says (she does) or even whether we have the right to say to ABC that we don't like her and she should be forced to take her propoganda elsewhere (we do) but whether Rosie has the right to excercise her rights whenever and wherever she wants to with no repurcussions (she doesn't.)

As to this leading to a "tit-for-tat" with liberals trying to off Rush and others of his ilk, well I say bring it on. I'd enjoy the competetion. Besides, liberals are already going after conservative talk radio because of Imus. If we think passivity and being nice is going to stave them off we are truly delusional. I'm sure conservatives of the past we're afraid to speak out as the MSM became increasingly leftist for fear of being labled "facist" or "anti-free speech" as well and look where that lead.

If Madion, Jefferson et al. were to be spinning in their graves, it would be because the "marketplace of ideals" has been replaced by "vocal minorities" drowning out of the voices of the "silent majority" because the majority has been cowered into not excersing their freedom of talking back to the insulated and isolated miscreants of the world.

If there are those who want to try and convince the powers that be at the View that it would be better off without her Her Nibs, more power to them. The worst that can happen is that they are told "no, we're keeping her."

silent corporate majority

Guybrush,

These "vocal minorities" are the corps that pay for the shows, and they called Nay on it, from pure profit motives based on their market. Rosie has increased ratings in the last few months, and therefore $$.

Unfortunately Rosie hasn't offended entire races and sexes, bigotedly, in one sentence, so far. When she does, I'm sure you'll be there to record it. She didn't say put rat poison in a judge's latte', did she? Who said that? Are you somewhat selective in who you want to have fired?

If Jefferson and Madison are rolling over now it's because we have an incompetent administration that hires based on religeon, not performance and experience. The founders wanted a separation between church and state. The Bush staff includes 150 Pat Robertson Grads who couldn't get hired anywhere else. One 24 year old was sent to Iraq to be THE economic advisor. Another 24 year old was sent to tell NASA scientists to shut up about global warming. The latest 33 year old grad of Pat Robertson U had never tried a case but was in charge of monitoring all the US federal attorneys, and quit rather than lie under oath last week.

Please don't bring Jefferson and Madison into a discussion you are just using for a snipe job, ignoring their main doctorine.

When Rosie says someone should kill a judge with rat poison cuz we disagree with them, I'll agree she's gone too far.

Capitalism !

Rosie

If there were an outcry from the public, no "censorship" would be needed to oust Rosie. However, the left has successfully desenstized Americans.  Most people either don't care much or are so ignorant they don't even realize how pathetic and dangerous Rosie is. Too many, unfortunately, even agree with her stupidity. The state of affairs in this nation has been at least thirty years in the making. Our schools are leftists hellholes and our MSM is biased beyond belief. Both these institutions depend on an ignorant, apethic public. They've got it. Sad.

Don't be too discouraged.  This is a country of 300 million people.  Statistically, the viewership of the View is only a small percentage of the population.  If you limit the statistical universe to adults, it's still only a small percentage.  You can make a lot of money and still only appeal to a fringe element.

That being said, if we had a decent education system that taught people to think for themselves, people like Rosie would have NO audience.
