On the Imus vs. Rappers front, MTV News reports that rap star Snoop Dogg has issued a new "warning" to the public: Don't dare to compare his lyrics — or any other MC's — to Don Imus and his recent racially inflammatory comments. MTV says "the Dogg" found there is no parallel. The Rutgers women Imus ridiculed were a success story, while the women he knocks in his music are "ho's that's in the hood that ain't doing sh--."
MTV transmitted a long, profane self-defense Snoop offered in a phone interview:
"It's a completely different scenario," said Snoop, barking over the phone from a hotel room in L.A. "[Rappers] are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports. We're talking about ho's that's in the 'hood that ain't doing sh--, that's trying to get a n---a for his money. These are two separate things. First of all, we ain't no old-ass white men that sit up on MSNBC [the cable network home to Imus] going hard on black girls. We are rappers that have these songs coming from our minds and our souls that are relevant to what we feel. I will not let them mutha-----as say we in the same league as him."
Snoop Dogg insisted "this punk" Imus deserved much more than a two-week suspension. He deserved to be fired. He should at least be punished like the NFL suspended Tennessee Titans football player Adam Jones for an entire season for scrapes with the police:
"Kick him off the air forever," he said. "Ban him like they did [Adam] 'Pacman' Jones. They kicked him out the [National Football] League for the whole season [for numerous violations of the NFL's personal-conduct policy, including multiple arrests], but this punk gets to get on the air and call black women 'nappy-headed ho's.' "

April 12, 2007 - 03:44 ET by sarcasmoWell, the news media know where to go to get what they want. O'Reilly today was interviewing Sharpton, not Walter Williams or Thomas Sowell or any of a half dozen others who'd say something I might like, because O'Reilly wants Sharpton. MTV wanted Snoop Dogg, but they too could have gone to someone else likely to say something intelligent if they'd actually wanted-to, but.... They didn't, in both cases, because sadly, "intelligent" does not sell to the "mainstream" news media these days -- especially when the intelligence comes from the mouth of a black person. Whenever it happens (coughRobinQuiverscough) nobody tends to want to notice the intelligent black person (after all, Howard Stern occasionally talks about - gasp! - sex, and that's all-important, to the point of being worth censoring with my tax dollars!).

April 11, 2007 - 20:08 ET by kathleenirishImus' and the 'Rap Community' (an oxymoron if there ever was one) are misogynistic hypocritical scumbags. Those remarks strike me as more sexist than racist, although they were both. The media seems to be putting them in context of their agenda, whereas the government needs to pay out more to help the stricken poor as some kind of solution to racism and the "two Americas". There are more people in poverty because of the government's policies and society's breakdown of the traditional family than anything else; something the MSM has actively cheered on for decades.
There was a real contempt for those basketball players as women athletes, I think, and there is a continual undercurrent of contempt for women in the MSM and elsewhere, but it's being played as a Black-White racism issue. I would tell Imus to shove his phony apology right up his dumb ass if I were them!!

April 11, 2007 - 20:57 ET by iveseenitallFor many reasons, I can't stand Sharpton or Jackson. However, I would be glad to see Imus fired. Guys like him and Stern have abused their right to "free speech" for years and gotten highly paid for it. Rosie is another one. With free speech comes responsibility. With "public" speech comes even more responsibility. These people have done more harm than good by raising the level of incivility in this country. Send them all packing and good riddance.

kathleenirish I disagree
April 11, 2007 - 21:59 ET by SportPoliticskathleenirish, I have to disagree, because I typed in you tube earlier, then IMUS, and watched his actual comments and a few reactions.
When IMUS made his remark, he had already said he went to see the game, so there's one reason to believe he doesn't hold the women playing the sport in contempt.
Next thing to point out in his whole exchange was the fact that he spoke of the Rutgers players as rough and tumble with tatttos (apparently true) and mentioned the other team that won, and said they really didn't want to or think they were going to win, but they did and were "cute", and never was there some type of comment that the whole women's b-ball was a bad idea in there.
So, he dissed the losing team, not exactly unusual, and although I don't know, he may be more a fan of the winning team because of his location or team preference. That's another thing that wasn't really brought up, that the team he made fun of had lost, which is certainly part of the reason he let loose on them.
So, I really don't think IMUS is down on women's teams in general. He's a fan of it, he went to see the game.
In general, there is contempt
April 12, 2007 - 15:26 ET by kathleenirishIn general, there is contempt for female athletes that flows from certain men, not all, but many I think, but since I can't stomach Imus I don't know as much as you do about the situation so I'll take your word for it. I still think 'nappy haired ho's' is both sexist and racist. Whores? Nappy haired? How stupid is this guy?

April 12, 2007 - 20:48 ET by pocomocoToward the end of a recent Time magazine article entitled: Who can say what?, one of the basketball players in a Rutgers' new conference, stated the following: "I'm a woman, and I'm someone's child," said Kia Vaughn. "I achieve a lot. And unless they've given this name, a 'ho,' a new definition, then that is not what I am."
Well, that’s all well and good, but my question is: How many Rap CDs, DVDs, and iPod music will you find if you go to any one of the girl’s dorm room?
I would suggest that they aren’t listening to The Sound Of Music or My Fair Lady.
