Imagine for a moment in the midst of the media’s current fixation with man-made global warming that Alaska experienced near-record high temperatures for the month of March. Do you think this would have been headline news, with folks like Meredith Vieira, Diane Sawyer, Charles Gibson, Brian Williams, and Katie Couric reporting the dire data with pictures of polar bears floating on broken ice flows?
Well, if the answer is a resounding “Yes,” why didn’t any of these news agencies bother sharing weather data from America’s 49th state concerning the previous month being one of the coldest on record?
As reported by the Alaska Climate Research Center (emphasis added):

Near-record cold in Alaska and abundant snow in the southeastStrong and widespread cold described March this year all across Alaska. Temperatures throughout the mainland were more than 8°F below average and the most extreme temperature departures of more than 16°F below average were observed in the central Interior. Areas along the Arctic coast and the southeast panhandle had relative warmth with temperature departures less than 8°F below average.
Now, just for argument’s sake, let’s diametrically change the entire report, and try to guess how the global warming alarmists in the media would have addressed it:

Now, I'm not sure if that is over a long term time period only or short ones as well, but I did notice that March 2007 had exceptionally low sunspot activity with almost half the days last month with zero. As of 2007, we are sitting in the trough of the 11-year solar activity cycle, but based on the last 10000 years we are in an unprecedented high level of solar activity when looking at 11-year cycle average trends. I really hope that we don't plunge into the sort of 'Maunder Minimum' that plauged the Earth in the late 17th century, where solar activity essentially ceased for about 70 years which created brutal seemingly endless winters resulting in widespread famine.

In the 70's treehuggers said we will have Global Cooling if we don't change something (whatever that was I don't remember). This is happening right now. Global Cooling is on the way. It can't be stop, and conservatives on the whole world are to blame.
So my dear Noel, today's MSM is promoting Global Warming which also on it's way. It can't be stop, and conservatives on the whole world are to blame. But it won't come tomorrow. It comes after Global Cooling. And the reason why they never tell you the whole story is because air time is expensive. There's only enough money for Global Warming is on its way but no money for when.

April 5, 2007 - 16:31 ET by GalvanicI suspect the MSM will ignore this fact, just as they under-reported the fact that the number of hurricanes that made landfall in the US last year was ZERO, despite pre-season forecasts that 2006 would be an "above-average" season for hurricanes. Came last November, a few TV meteorologists managed to slip in a quick line about it, but at far fewer decibels than their forecasts the previous spring.
And of course, along with the under-reporting came the absence of any explanation of how global warming --- already tagged as a great inducer of hurricanes like Katrina (a mere Category 3 storm!) --- could account for this phenomenon.
But the facts don't matter. For instance, Gore declares the polar bear population is threatened with extinction, while the Canadian government expert on polar bears reports that 11 of the 13 polar bear populations are stable or improving. But then, hey . . . does he have an Oscar like Prince Albert? Then, how smart can he really be on the subject of polar bears anyway? ;-)
