Dean Barnett at TownHall.com noticed that outpouring of well wishes from Huffington Post commenters:
Naturally, the Huffington Post community weighs in with its own unique form of sympathy. A few samples:
- “Sure holding all that bulls**t in your gut would make anybody sick..!”
- “The growth in his abdomen is his head stuck up his a**. F**k him!! He is pure lying scum and should die ASAP!!”
- “You can only swallow so much............can you say karma.................”
Of course, some posters wished Snow well in that charming HuffPo way:
- “I’m sorry to hear about this for Tony, I hope it is all good news for the guy. Tony may be a BushCo whore but nobody deserves to have cancer, it’s a terrible desease that has caused far too much misery to my family and many, many more.”
Barnett also says he saved a screenshot to prove it "if and when this thread disappears down Arianna's memory hole."

March 23, 2007 - 15:27 ET by John in CAImagine, just yesterday, the wife of a demo president candidate, that most of us here probably disagree with on a wholesale basis, announced she has a recurrence of cancer. Nowhere on the right blogosphere did I read anything but wishing her the best. This despite the fact that she is more than just a supporter of her husbands ambitions - she is a vocal and active proponent of his policies. In fact, she sent a personal letter of support to Mother Sheehan during her occupation of Crawford, TX in 2005. But everytime a republican has a dire health issue (Cheney, Snow) the left wishes a pox upon them.
Arianna has tried to insulate herself from the vile comments on her blog by separating them from volatile issues. It still displays the vitriol that some on the left carry for anyone who disagrees with them.
Now, we just need to see what the koskiddies and dummyundergrounders have to say on the issue.

Bal is correct in the fact that hateful things get said from both sides. After the ex governor of Texas died from throat cancer I think there were some inappropriate comments on that. The left wing MSM kept playing her remaks about Bush Sr., and I am pretty sure there were some comments about her.
I also believe Michelle Malkin found comments about John Ashcroft from left wing sites when he was having some type of surgery, and they were hoping and wishing he was in extreme pain.

Liberals also claim that skin color, ethnicity, or "sexual orientation" don't matter, yet that's the very first adjective they use to describe someone. What did her ehtnicity have to do with the subject? Not a thing.

The quote "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" is often attributed to Burke, but does not appear in his works or recorded speeches, at least as best as can be determined from any hard copy that exists.
This is probably one of the most quoted statements attributed to Burke and many variants of it can be found. But all without any definite original source.
It may have been adapted from these lines of Burke's in his Thoughts on the Cause of Present Discontents (1770): "When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle."
My other favorite quotes of Burkes, which have been authenticated to him, are:
All government,—indeed, every human benefit and enjoyment, every virtue and every prudent act,—is founded on compromise and barter. Speech on the Conciliation of America. Vol. ii. p. 169.
He that wrestles with us strengthens our nerves and sharpens our skill. Our antagonist is our helper. Reflections on the Revolution in France. Vol. iii. p. 453.
I'll still keep it as my tag line - because I believe it rings true even more today that it would have in the 1770's.

Reagan's 11th Commandment and also the fact it is widely attributed to Burke particularly on the web. I confess I read Burke thanks to Buckley's suggestion to do so, but I'm not a Burke expert. All I know is he was just very seldom that brief in saying anything, so I looked further into the matter and discovered the truth of the matter as you now have. Yes, that is the origin of the quotation, or at least the closest anyone has found.

But this business
about this being a surprise makes me think that the leak that was planted today

"Happy Liberal" -- oxymoron
March 23, 2007 - 19:20 ET by w0tmSimple question: Has anyone ever seen or met a truly happy liberal? I'm not talking about liberals who are gleeful with the power over others they've acquired or the ones pleased with the pain and suffering their beliefs inflict on others, the country, mankind and so forth. I'm talking about individuals simply happy with themselves, other people and the world around them? I cannot think of even one. Liberals, by nature, are a sour lot. Those in public life have their "happy face" always close at hand for whenever they hear the sound of a camera clicking on. But that is it. The rest are always mad at something. No, "Mad as Hell!" is a better description. Doubt me? Read blogs on the DailyKOS and pick out even one that is from a contented, happy person. You'll give up after a few days of reading vetrolic, biting and just plain angry posts. Whatever the subject - they are universally mad AND angry. M+A=unhappy person.
But, to a person, they hate the world, they hate others and, more than anything, they hate themselves. Read "Stop Walking on Eggshells" (sold on Amazon and by most bookstores) and you'll read the underlying personality trait that makes most liberals liberal. Not all, but most. It should be required reading for all in professional politics and suggested to all interested in politics but who are just plain baffled at the constant illogical statements and actions of the left.
No, not all people with the personality trait described in this book are liberals but I would guess it's a very high percentage. I believe it does prove you cannot make logic out of anything and anyone illogical by nature!
Yes, as much as I believe her political beliefs, if put into action, will shorten the already shortened life span of our soon to end 235 year experiment with democracy, I do wish her as much of a recovery as is possible. And, yes, I am praying for her and her family.

March 23, 2007 - 19:42 ET by Del DolemonteLOL! And I'd say that YOU need to go to www.pollingreport.com and spend some time there, and see what the political party breakdown is on the polls cited there. I think you would be shocked to find that the majority of them toe the party line-about as many as toe the line on the other side.
Now this would seem to be a no-brainer, but since the Democratic Party has always prided itself on "tolerance" for opposing opinions, and claimed that the other side is not tolerant of such opposing opinions, the ratio of people marching in lockstep with the DNC mantra would make people like Goebbels proud.
Especially since it's been the people in the Dem party, and not their opposition, who have been assaulting the incumbent President and party by throwing out 1930's analogies like "Reich Wing", "Bushitler", and so on for the past 6 years or so.
Yes! I'd enjoy meeting even ONE! A name please?
March 24, 2007 - 17:03 ET by w0tmDear Mr. Balboa,
I'm cordially responding to your puzzling comment that I should meet more Democrats. Happy to! But I don't know what that has to do with my post? I re-read what I wrote and I don't see the word "Democrat" even once. Now, I did say "liberal" (a whole bunch!). The Democratic Party died in 1972. To me, the ONLY remaining Democrat (like John Kennedy) is Zell Miller. Joe Lieberman could be but, when he tossed all his "convictions" overboard to run with Al Gore in 2000, he showed himself to just be full of himself. If Hillary asks him to run as VP in 2008, he will become a Hillary clone as fast as he can switch his cue cards.
Zell Miller is a happy person. Positive about others, sees the good in other people, believes a "hand up is better than a hand out" and all the other stuff JFK and many other fine (D) people used to say. I guess the "real" Democrats thought he was just saying that stuff to trick voters? But I do believe Zell Miller means what he says. I'd love to meet him some day. Wow! I'd meet the lone remaining Democrat. Kind of like touching the last carrier pigeon or meeting the legendary Yeti! Yes, there are those who are brainwashed by liberals into thinking pulling the lever next to (D) is a vote for "family values", the "working class", yada yada but, other then those truly dumb as a sack of hammers people, the rest are NOT Democrats. They are liberals and all points even further left.
Why not change the party name to what it really is? No, can't do that! That would be political suicide. "Perception is Reality". "The Party of JFK" will always draw millions of votes from the clueless. EVERY Democrat is a "moderate" on Election Day. American flags were waved by the thousands at every Democratic rally last year. Do you see any today? Maybe a few upside down and others on fire but that's about it.
I stand by what I wrote. Liberals are a sour and unhappy lot. I'm sorry for them and wish them recovery from their illness BUT I do NOT want them dragging me into their misery.

March 24, 2007 - 17:22 ET by misterbillw0tm I am not alone!!!---I am deeply concerned that the American Republic is heading to a fast collapse. I will definitely visit Barnes & Noble this week and get the book. It may help me to understand. I hope it also has something about the apathy of the large number of Americans too! We have so many experienced, knowledgable bloggers here at NB. Many ex military with tremendous exposure to the world around us. I have been expecting much more dialogue on the subject of the collpse of the Republic. In my world, I see and hear so many people who say that we should never have gone to Iraq, illegal immigration is OK, etc.,each of these issues and the American man in the street's reaction to them coupled with the elections of a large number of Democratic officials who hate America are fast leading to our end. I will probably be labelled a kook for my fears, but I am confident it IS (not will be ) happening. As to a withdrawal from Iraq, I will not sit by this time. I did during the Dems cut and run in 'Nam. I will actively stay involved and fight it.
An ugly American is one who does not support his country.
Good luck!
March 25, 2007 - 19:48 ET by w0tmWe need more people like you. The main problem is we have FEWER people like you as each day goes by. Including (I'm ashamed to say) people like me who see no happy ending. I believe we jumped out of the plane without a parachute in 1975 atop an embassy in Saigon and, thus far, the fall has had no ill effects. Just as the naysayers promised us. It's that damn last inch of the jump that is pure Hell. I've always looked at current events as tiny pieces of a puzzle that is "history". Mankind long ago began to repeat itself in attempts to destroy all. Until know, there just wasn't the means nor the number of Useful Idiots needed to make it happen. "Those Who Forget History Are Doomed to Repeat It".
I'm one of those people who read almost impossible to find everyday histories of the years that led up to the fall of every great empire and civilization. That is where the true wisdom of the ages is found. But we ignore it. There WERE people sounding the alarm before Rome fell from within. Churchill in the '30's. You and I could name dozens, if not hundreds, who were ignored until it was too late or needlessly cost many millions of lives. There have always been people who saw the coming storm and were the Noah's of their time. Today, they are called conservatives. What will be their name when mankind reaches the next zenith in another 2,000 years?
There have always been people who see the future. They are not mystics or clairvoyants. They just read and understand obscure history as it really was and then parallel it to events of today. We are collapsing from within just as Rome fell 2,000 years ago. And, yes, we have millions of Neros who are already "Fiddling While Rome Burns".
As I say, Good luck! I wish I had your optimism. Our Second Civil War is coming and the only winners will be our enemies who are gathering at the gates and already among us ready to divide up the spoils. No great civilization has endured the test of time and neither will ours. Mankind seems to have a gene to destroy itself every 2,000 years. Read history and you'll see the same sequence over and over of destruction, the Dark Ages, a slow rebirth and then a bright nebula that all who are fortunate enough to be alive during those brief times believe, "this time!", their heaven on earth is their birthright and will last forever. Until it ends.
Yes, reading that relatively obscure book that has nothing to do with politics will open up your mind to view inside the thoughts processes of a liberal. Called "liberal" today and many other words back to the dawn of history. They were always the well meaning (but clueless) people who, each time, finally gained power and then destroyed their civilizations. "The Road to Hell is Paved with Good Intentions". Except for the few cynical and evil people who call themselves liberal but are really just demagogues to advance their own power and glory, that is the motto of all those liberal. Whether they accept it or not. If there is anyone left, they'll always say "sorry, I didn't mean for this to happen". Saying "sorry" sometimes just isn't enough when you've destroyed the world.

March 23, 2007 - 21:50 ET by marvlIt is amazing to me how savage and immature the liberal left is. They are like selfish 10 year old children that deserve a spanking. But, of course, they don't believe in spankings.

March 24, 2007 - 06:32 ET by JonQuixoteAs one who has documented the antics at HuffPost extensively, particularly re the infamous "Cheney thread," this is all very familiar. The rabid left in America comprises the most hateful, spiteful, loonbatted nutjobs that one can imagine. All disguised under the cloak of being "diverse" and "inclusive" and "tolerant" and "understanding." The MSM simply will not correlate stuff like this, with Rosie O'Donnell's hate and lunacy, with the... well, you know.
I don't know what the solution is, but I do hope that via NB's exposure, maybe the MSM will one day wise up. Hey, I'm an optimist. :)

Our Second Civil War
March 25, 2007 - 19:54 ET by w0tmIf you have time, read the ten years that led up to our Civil War. The similarities to today are eerie. Except, this time, neither side will win; our enemies will prevail who will divide up the spoils.
