An interesting event took place during soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore’s visit to Congress on Wednesday. Sen. James Inhofe (R-Oklahoma) asked the former Vice President to take a pledge that he would not use more energy in his personal residence than the average American, and Gore refused (video available here).

As reported at the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works website: "Senator Inhofe showed Gore a film frame from 'An Inconvenient Truth' where it asks viewers: 'Are you ready to change the way you live?'”

On the playground, one would call this “Put up or Shut up.” Do you think Gore put up? The press release deliciously continued:

“There are hundreds of thousands of people who adore you and would follow your example by reducing their energy usage if you did.  Don’t give us the run-around on carbon offsets or the gimmicks the wealthy do,” Senator Inhofe told Gore.

“Are you willing to make a commitment here today by taking this pledge to consume no more energy for use in your residence than the average American household by one year from today?” Senator Inhofe asked.

Senator Inhofe then presented Vice President Gore with the following "Personal Energy Ethics Pledge":

As a believer:

·        that human-caused global warming is a moral, ethical, and spiritual issue affecting our survival;

·        that home energy use is a key component of overall energy use;

·        that reducing my fossil fuel-based home energy usage will lead to lower greenhouse gas emissions; and

·        that leaders on moral issues should lead by example;

I pledge to consume no more energy for use in my residence than the average American household by March 21, 2008.

Gore refused. Think this will make the network news programs this evening, or headlines tomorrow?

Don’t hold your breath.

Can you say "Do as I say, not as I do?"

And quite a huge hypocrit indeed was Gore. The point is, there are only so many carbon sinks, and in this world the Gore's tell us there just aren't enough carbon sinks to go around, and there just won't be for many years, and that's why we are headed to disaster and extinction.
So unless one and everyone is reducing their carbon use, all the carbon sinks are used up and then some. Global warming therefore continues.
Fat liars like Al Gore use up the sellable carbon sinks because they are bloated guilty energy hogs, and that doesn't magically increase the available carbon sinks sellable or not beyond the output of carbon.
It's amazing what the blimb hypocrit blabbers and gets away with, with his idiot moron lemming crew.

HEY LIB MORONS,if there were enough carbon sinks to go around, we would NOT have global warming, right ? (you said it )

Well, I just gave a long rant after listening to the hearings on another thread Noel ...

The answer is to your question about the msm is...

OF COURSE NOT!

That is absolutely right.

That is absolutely right. Unless, of course, they decide to do a profile piece on all the wonderful things Algore does that require him to be "flexible" about his energy use . He is an "important person" you know, and might be required to go off on his private jet at a moment's notice. As I mentioned in another thread, it's all about privilege. The "elite" like Mr. Gore, get to use all the energy they want (they buy offsets, you know). The rest of us plebes get to make the sacrifices.

This is almost as tasty as the bag of Ruffles I'm sprinkling Louisiana Hot Sauce onto for my afternoon snack.

Gore won't take the pledge because there is not profit in it for him like there is with his so-called 'carbon credits'. Make no mistake, he's not in this for the environment and the fate of humanity, he's in it for the money and his bottom-line.

This is good, but it it sort of accepts the bogus apgw premise. I think someone should ask him to defend the science of his Inconvenient Lie, and challenge him on the arrogant claim that "the debate is over."

Why bother debating when just

Why bother debating when just holding him to be consistent with his rhetoric discredits his whole case?  Al Gore doesn't believe what he says, otherwise he wouldn't be consuming the earth's resources as he does at such a voracious rate.  The only explanation for this disconnect between rhetoric and action is that he doesn't believe in Man made global warming!  That's right, Al Gore is even a bigger skeptic than any of us!!!!  So this leaves us to determine the real motive behind all his hype.  Since Al Gore is not directly investing in solar panels and wind turbines nor using them, but in carbon credits one is left with really only one viable motive:  Profiting off of carbon credits and speaking engagements and stoking his ego.

Chasing the AGW Red Herring

"Can you say 'Do as I say, not as I do?'"

Ahhhh yes, the Limousine Liberals (aka Champagne Socialists) do have their own rules, don'cha know. These special rules usually amount to "They play; we pay".

"Think this will make the network news programs this evening, or headlines tomorrow?"

Ummm, no.  The headlines will question why the President and Reps aren't chasing this AGW Red Herring like the Dems and Algore.  In any case the MSM will surely return to the truly earth-shaking topic: "who's the father of Anna's baby".  And ignore real global problems like the Israeli/Palestinian, Iranian Nukes, President of Pakistan’s current political trouble…

The Cult of Global Warming...Gore called a "Prophet" by Dem Rep

Forgive the second posting of this but it is more relevent than ever. I posted it several weeks ago that compared Global Warmingism to a Cult and now...Drudge has a link "You're a prophet" with a Democrat Representative calling Gore a Prophet...need Global Warmingism be characterized in any other fashion than a cult after such sycophanticism?

When the new millennium arrived it brought with it a panic
felt ‘round the world, that being of course the Y2K scare of computer and
related electronic failure on a catastrophic level, threatening to destabilize
and possibly bring apocalyptic chaos in the lives of people everywhere. Needless to say, it didn’t happen. Move forward a few years and another
catastrophe of even greater proportions is said to threaten our world and in
fact, the direst predictions claim that humanity as we know it has 10 years
left at best. We are doomed and the end
is near if something isn’t done now.

My interest in one aspect of the debate is
sociological. While far more significant
are the facts of the arguments made by both sides and in-between, I am struck
by the sociological profile of the Global Warmists in comparison to characteristics
commonly found in cults, both religious and non-religious. Of course even sounding this note will set
off a cacophony of protests among the ardent teachers, promoters, and followers
of the enthusiastic doctrine and science of global warming. That is fine; protest all you want while the
rest consider.

For the sake of clarity, when I refer to global warming, I
am clearly and distinctly referring to those who adhere to the belief that the
rise in the earth’s average temperature in most recent history (the beginning
date is argued from 50-75 years) is the result most significantly of an
anthropogenic cause, namely the burning of fossil fuels which has increased the
parts per million of CO2 in the atmosphere from 280 parts per million to 360
parts per million (give or take 10 or so on each end per varying arguments). Additionally, that the prescriptive action
deduced from these “climate model conclusions” is a radical change in the way
we live and hyper-drastic reductions in the burning of fossil fuels which is to
be enhanced, if not enforced, through governmental legislation. With that said and this not being a debate
about the scientific aspects of the issue, I will move on to the merits of my
hypothesis; is Global Warmingism a cult?

Having had some theological and sociological training, both
academically and personally for over 20 years I feel comfortable with at least
being able to sense or detect patterns of behavior, methods of indoctrination
and other related social rhythms that either fit in part or whole into certain
classifications or groups. For a while I
really didn’t detect looping themes in the Global Warmists because there
initially appeared to be a moderately healthy point of discovery and debate with
some tolerance of other considerations.
However, that changed when one personality came to the forefront and
seemed to provide a starkly pivotal moment in the debate that took the
scientific study and question of global warming from the lab into the world of politics. Of course that personality is none other than
former Vice President, Al Gore.

I realize that Al Gore didn’t invent the idea of global
warming nor does he pretend to be the preeminent spokesperson on the
topic. But seldom, if ever, have I seen
issues codified as socially significant and given a great deal of attention
apart from the help of a high profile group or person leading the way. And Al Gore admits to this calling, quite
candidly. Unfortunately it has resulted
with the issue in the hands of the politicians who in reality are the formers
and reformers of the social policy of our day.
They are the quasi-philosophers, the default social engineers who manufacture
the rules and regulations that are said to represent the beliefs of the
reasonable masses. And so here it is,
with the a newly found “charismania” pumping life into Al Gore to that he may lead
the way, I ask once again, is Global Warmingism a cult?

Instead of simply following my instinct without any research
I made sure that what I sensed was legitimate.
So with the help of Al Gore’s real invention the internet, I used this
mechanism of revelation to search out characteristics of cults, both religious
and non-religious and I was stunned to discover the alarming parallels between Global
Warmists
and the general characteristics of cults. So without further delays allow me to begin my
enumeration and comparison of 10 distinctions of cults that are observable in Global
Warmists
, with number 10 being my own contribution to the formula:

1. “The
group is focused on a living leader to whom the members seem to display
excessively zealous, unquestioning commitment.”
From the American Family Foundation. http://www.sspx-cult.com/CultCharacteristics.htm

2. “Questioning,
doubt and dissent are discouraged or even punished.” From the American Family Foundation. http://www.sspx-cult.com/CultCharacteristics.htm

3. “Crisis
Creation – They employ tactics designed to deepen confusion, fear, guilt or
doubt.” From the University
of California at Berkeley. http://www.sspx-cult.com/CultCharacteristics.htm

4. “Placing
an individual in a position of powerlessness within a high-control
authoritarian system.” From Professor
Dennis Tourish quoting Singer. http://www.rickross.com/reference/general/general434.html

5. “Endless
indoctrination into the ideology of the group.”
http://home.earthlink.net/~raamthodol/cults.pdf

6. “Use
of apocalyptic imagery.” http://home.earthlink.net/~raamthodol/cults.pdf

7. “Mystical
Manipulation. Potential convert is convinced of the higher purpose within the special
group.” From Common Cult Characteristics.
http://www.orange-papers.org/orange-cultinfo.html

8. “The
cult insists that there is no legitimate alternative to membership in the cult.” From Common Cult Characteristics. http://www.orange-papers.org/orange-cultinfo.html

9. “B.I.T.E.
Behavioral, Informational, Thought and Emotional Control. From Common Cult Characteristics”. http://www.orange-papers.org/orange-cultinfo.html

10. A radical
change in the way you live will be required.
It will be characterized by little change in the lives of those in power
with the cult but a marked decrease and often and substantial decrease, in
personal wealth and comfort.

After a substantial amount of review and evaluation of cult
identifiers I was amazed to see the application to Global Warmists. The 10 I listed does not, of course, comprise
all such possible characteristics but certainly demonstrates an alarming
profile regarding how Global Warmists operate.

Al Gore, without question is spearheading this effort and is
probably the most well-known and visible personality involved in the
debate. In fact, as I write it is being
reported that Al Gore has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. And it is without a doubt that he has had
little to answer for regarding a panel of notable scientists who oppose what
his book, The Earth in the Balance:
Ecology and the Human Spirit
, along with subsequent publications and
speeches, claim. There is little
scrutiny if any that Al Gore, the newly crowned king of this movement, has
endured. Instead he has been met with
applause and acquiescence by willing media.

But moving away from the central personality to what I
believe has now become the cult of Global Warming are
the remaining tags that help people understand when they are encountering a cult. Just recently Delaware’s state climatologist David Legates
is living with the threat of having his title removed because of a scientific
disagreement with Global Warmists which he shares with the likes of outstanding
climatologists and scientists in his field such as Dr. Henrik Svensmark. If you question you will punished appears to
be quite true.

Does the exclusionist behavior, the doomsday prophecies, the
trail of money going to the few who will orchestrate and oversee the rescue of
our lives and the radical change that will be required in your life but not
those in power, the heavy indoctrination and punishment and belittlement of
dissenters and no legitimate alternatives viewed as acceptable, bother
you? If it does it is because my friend,
you have probably experienced such cult like behavior and organization before
and your instinct tells you that you are seeing it again.

But without writing more I would rather solicit the reader’s
opinion and discover if any or all of the characteristics and the additional
information at the links in my article, support the hypothesis and conclusion
that indeed, Global Warmingism is a cult.

Shut up and blog! If you claim to be a conservative, please don't disgrace yourself and conservatism by thinking and arguing like a liberal. Go Rudy!
