Today's starter: Not only have the media completely ignored the history of firing U.S. attorneys, they also are ignoring the substance. As Patterico reports, attorney Carol Lam was "targeted" for dismissal long before she became a political problem.

March 15, 2007 - 11:39 ET by JayTeeActually, the Media's sin of omission on 93 firings vs. the 8 is good news. It will result in the American People starting to Ignore the old media even MORE. If you can't get good news from ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN.......you have to start going elsewhere. Plus it re-enforces the concept that the Media thinks we are Stupid.
Meanwhile, I'm headed to DC on 3/17, to stand with the Gathering of Eagles dot Org, as I want to get the "news" first hand on the "march on the Pentagon" and other 3/17 anti war events around the country.
I will know first hand, what happened with the "march"...but I will be on the Military/American side of things, not the moonbat side.
Y'all come on down now, Ya'hear ?
Then I will wait and see how it's reported......probably all BAD news will make the old Media front pages.

Immigration raid
March 15, 2007 - 11:48 ET by MassConservativeFrom the 'been there, heard that' department we have a State Democratic Administration blasting the Federal government for inappropriate action in a case where they share much of the responsibility. In this case a raid of ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS (not 'undocumented workers') that took place in New Bedford, MA.
I would have posted the link but subscription is required so I am am sorry this is long but it is well worth the read just to get to the punch line in the paragraph at the end. BTW....this was in the Boston Globe and the writer is generally a far left loon who's opinions I do not much care for so I give her credit for calling the administration to task on this one.
A lapse in planning
By Eileen McNamara, Globe Columnist | March 14, 2007
Federal immigration agents first briefed senior members of the incoming Patrick administration about plans to raid a Massachusetts sweatshop that employed undocumented workers last December, days before Governor Deval Patrick even took office.
In the following two months, there were face-to-face meetings and conference calls between state officials and the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency to discuss the potential human as well as legal consequences of the planned roundup of laborers working illegally at the Michael Bianco Inc. leather factory in New Bedford.
Patrick himself was told in February that the raid would target the defense contractor that was using a largely undocumented female workforce to make safety vests for US soldiers in Iraq. Commissioner Harry Spence of the Massachusetts Department of Social Services was told a raid was coming several days before it occurred. The night before the sweep, Bruce Foucart, the ICE agent in charge of the operation, spoke with Spence to coordinate law enforcement and child protection aspects of the raid.
So, enough with the breast-beating pretense that the Patrick administration was blindsided by the stealth tactics of shadowy federal immigration officials. This is political grandstanding of the most transparent kind.
For all the focus on the aftermath of the raid, precious little attention has been paid to its planning. The state did play a part in that process, Spence's splenetic attacks on ICE and his denials of state responsibility notwithstanding.
Massachusetts Public Safety Secretary Kevin Burke said yesterday that he and others in the administration raised questions about the children of detainees from the first meeting with Foucart and his team on Dec. 29. "They were very nice, but very vague," Burke said. "We were assured there wouldn't be any problems. . . . Next time, the state will press more for details in the beginning."
It is reasonable to ask why the state did not press more this time. Patrick did not hesitate to appeal directly to Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff to allow DSS social workers access to the detainees after the raid. Why, then, did he not call Chertoff before the raid to insist that the necessary precautions to protect children be in place?
Immigration authorities denied a request by Spence to allow state social workers to accompany agents during the raid, Foucart said, "because this was a law enforcement action."
"I couldn't have them interviewing people at a crime scene," he said. "I was happy to set up a triage center at the New Bedford DSS office. I assigned one of our agents there to help sort out any problems. It is just not true that we failed to coordinate with DSS."
The decision to keep the social workers out of the building "left the state between a rock and a hard place," said Burke, the longtime Essex district attorney. "It's a federal operation. Am I going to beat up law enforcement officials for that? No."
No need. Spence has the blame game covered. On Monday, he continued blasting ICE agents for a lack of cooperation and for providing a public account of events that, he charged, "has been completely different from the truth."
Given the state's performance, that is almost funny. As late as yesterday afternoon Nancy Fernandez Mills, communications director for the Patrick administration, was insisting that "the governor was not told and did not know the raid was happening until it was going on" and that "DSS did not know about this raid until it was in progress."
Told that, in fact, members of Patrick's Cabinet had briefed him about the operation weeks ago and that Spence had participated in a conference call with ICE the day before the raid -- a fact the commissioner himself acknowledged in yesterday's newspapers -- she reconsidered: "I'd like to retract that statement until I talk to someone who actually knows something about this timeline."
It is going to be a long four years."

March 15, 2007 - 12:12 ET by Chris NormanHere, in New Mexico, they're making a big deal about the "pressure" exerted from Senator Pete Domenici and Rep. Heather Wilson on Fed Prosecutor Iglesias. One of the charges is that they called him at home. Now, they're trying to further the supposed "dark plot" by dragging in a story that two attornies with "ties to the state Republican Party" met with the Attorney General to discuss Iglesias. The media can make a meeting sound so evil and ominous. This whole thing doesn't stop at hurting the Bush Aedministration. The MSM and the Democrats are weaving a conspiracy out of nothing to severely damage as much of the GOP as possible. Talk about "juicing up the facts"...

Fair and Balanced?
Since Dr. Ron Paul announced his campaign for the Presidency in 2008 not one word on the news.. Where are the so called Fair and Balanced news casts on Fox News? Not a peep... but they are featuring McCain tomorrow.
Please everyone email Fox news and ask why they have not mentioned Ron Paul, the only candidate that is FAIR AND BALLANCED.
Flood their computers with messages... all of them.. there is power in the people and we have to let them know we want our candidate to have as much coverage as the rest of the scum suckers get.
Just copy and paste the same message to all below. I am starting tonight and won't quit till I get them all ...
Come on gang this needs to be done.. cross post this list to all your groups and let's make one big bunch of messages....

March 15, 2007 - 23:17 ET by sarcasmoWell, yes, but Badnarik was only a Libertarian political hopeful, and Dr. Paul's a (ok, for once I won't "shout" the word, but I still feel like it!) Republican member of the House, just like "Constant Coverage" Kucinich is a Democrat member of the House. Only 435 of these people even exist... So to me, it's apples & oranges, since Nader got way-less votes than the Republican candidate got. And please recall, I'm doing exactly what a number of you people -- esp. ACA -- told me to do months & months ago, before Paul's candidacy made it inconveniently-possible. ;) Trying, desperately, to work within one of the 2 "major" parties for libertarian political change. While libertarian ideas are obviously quite relevant to this effort, the Libertarian Party really isn't, even if people really want it to be -- perhaps because if it were, that would help to explain the blatant antilibertarian mediabias I've shown? :)

March 16, 2007 - 07:39 ET by sarcasmoAnd a footnote, since I watched Cavuto's repeat with Nader this AM. Cavuto actually admitted to having Constant Coverage Kucinich (my unwitting antilibertarian media bias control-group) on his show multiple times. (Still a big goose-egg for Dr. Paul, not just on Cavuto's show but all of Fox News, but that somehow went unmentioned.) It's very sad when media bias against certain ideas is this blatant, but now that they've pushed their favored northeastern RINOs so hard for this long, I think they'll feel safe to grudgingly-do the journalism Fox should have done weeks-ago in another week or 2, if only just to shut me up a bit. :)

My point is still the dangerous -- and particularly-ironic coming from Fox News -- media bias against libertarian ideas being expressed against a REPUBLICAN (yes, I do need to repeatedly-shout, apparently, when I say that...) candidate, which, as proved above, is particularly-blatant mediabias even for here... If you agree with me, please tell Fox News to quit with the blatant bias and do some actual journalism for once. Or something like that, you might want to be a tiny bit more-polite...

March 15, 2007 - 23:01 ET by sarcasmoThanks, Rog. Saw the platform, did you? (Yeah, I guess it's obvious the scotch & cigars & beers flowed on 'till about 4AM.) And because they had not registered in FL yet, IIRC we COULD have -- in theory -- taken the billionaire's party's "Reform" name alone, but (stupid honest libertarian-lawyer - didn't he learn anything in law school?) we finally decided it would be best to do the obvious & tack on the word "silly."
Getting back to the Fox News issue, the problem is that it's highly-likely, now that their bias has been repeatedly exposed in this way, that Fox News will manage to be even-less-friendly to Dr. Paul than they would have been had they simply done the journalism everyone knows they needed to do at least a month ago...If that's even possible...

March 15, 2007 - 19:18 ET by misterbillSort of a drive by--I am going to sign off after this and park my old butt in front of the TV. A very basic fact of life is that when a person of position is publicly shown disrespect, be it a principal and her/his teachers, the others (children, parents) in the school lose respect for the principal. Over time discipline becomes a problem. The teachers say "Oh my, whatever has happened?". They accept no reponsibility for the problem, although they have created the problem. I have never seen a President, in my 74 years on this planet, treated so poorly as the left and the MSM has treated GW Bush. I am not a GW Bush fan, but I agree with his war on terror. And, if any driveling lib wants to play the semantics game about "war"--get lost, I am too busy for fools tonight.
Almost everything that is happening in the world, with regard to disrespect and dislike for America can be laid at the feet of the Democratic party. Their constant reviling and demeaning of the President in the WORLD press is disgraceful, nay, it is more, it is treasonous to the USA. I often wondered in my travel through life, what it takes to make people pick up arms and revolt. Well, now I know. I wish a large band of young people would sweep ALL officials out of office and start our government all over. Yes, some really good people would be lost in the process, but maybe we would get some America first people to replace them.
So much for my rant. I beleive the current state of affairs and the chaos in our country is the reason there is no mention of the USA in Revelations. There will not be such a Republic.
In closing, I hold EVERY Democratic Senator and Representative at fault and every RINO. To hell with freedom of the press. That concept was created so that the truth would get to the people. Which of you thinks you get the truth from them?? Down with the MSM.
With that said--Goodnight fellow conservatives!

The one group that has been maligned, castigated, castrated, ridiculed, marginalized (so the freedom-hating liberals hoped) and blamed for every problem that has ever befallen this earth, yet upon which all of our hopes now fall.

March 15, 2007 - 22:39 ET by UnsaneI don't object to bias; I object to people not admitting bias and passing themselves off as objective. European newspapers and other media outlets dispensed with the concept of objectivity long ago.
For that reason, I love The Economist and devour the week's edition whenever it appears in my mailbox. Their biases are declared in their editorials; and above all, their international coverage is outstanding.
Sure, they have editorial viewpoints I agree with, and some of which I vehemently disagree. But at least they are up-front. (For instance, they endorsed Bush in 2000, but Kerry in 2004. Oddly, they are a British publication.)

But the writing (as most Brit writing tends to be) was fine.
More on The Economist
March 15, 2007 - 22:57 ET by UnsaneWell,it is definitely turning much more Leftward since their new editor took the reins last year at about this time. But at least in that mag I can read about events taking place far beyond the borders of the United States, unlike the U.S. media (and that INCLUDES Fox News, for all you whacked-out Leftists out there!!!)...

I'm proud -- despite their small audience -- that Dr. Paul chose to announce his candidacy there, rather than on any of the more-biased networks.

THE BORDER REPORT
Dateline Gilbert, AZ:
3 valley teens where stopped for drag racing by local police. During questioning it was revealed that these teens were not legal citizens. Responding officers contacted ICE and the youths were detained and then deported back to Mexico. Although Gilbert Police have not yet participated, many law enforcement officers throughout the state, in cooperation with ICE, are being instructed on proper handling and arresting of suspected illegals in a joint effort to help stem the flow of illegal immigrants into our state.

March 15, 2007 - 20:07 ET by sarcasmoHmmm. Let's see if this link can get people 1/4 as worried as me! Here's a quote: "In dollar terms, that means the U.S. needs to attract $3 billion to $4 billion per day to balance its payments. If it fails to, the dollar will weaken over time, potentially driving up inflation and interest rates." That's a lot of dollars, every day...

March 16, 2007 - 08:41 ET by sarcasmoWe'll see, in a few years, who's right. In the mean time, do you actually believe this guy's claim, which is essentially-translatable to something like: "holders of real assets who choose to trade said assets to us for some of China's enormous stash of USD bonds will not then liquidate their new bonds & spend the money on themselves." If you can find a way to believe this, I need to tell you about a very interesting real estate deal in south Florida for a HUGE piece of land, for sale very cheap. (But please ignore the signs all over the place that say "Everglades National Park" if you visit!)

March 16, 2007 - 09:19 ET by sarcasmoI wouldn't worry about trade of any sort normally, but what we're seeing between these 2 big-big governments hardly resembles anything like free market capitalism. My worries are born of the distortions of our monetary system whose effects are seen in things like trade & outlandish salaries (which also seem divorced from the free CEO labor market). But trade issues & weirdly high salaries for certain people are merely a symptom, the holy Federal Reserve's constantly-inflationary policy is the problem. Thankfully, other nations' money is, in general, even crappier than ours, but that's damning them with faint praise.

Anyway, they quit publishing M3, which upset 'nutcases' like me & Ron Paul & various others but which WAS NOT EVEN MENTIONED ONCE AFAIK on Cavuto (and I was watching, as I'm sort of a "Cavutologist," I'll have to admit). To 'nutcases' like me, the best "conspiracy theory" to deride might be the idea that those in power are honest, and won't do various dishonest & unethical & unConstitutional things to remain in power for the short term, because power is a very-good drug. Anyway, and thank God for the internet, the M3 vacuum has been somewhat-filled by unofficial sources like this. Or this one -- (warning, starts annoying quicktime video).
