On Monday, MSNBC’s Contessa Brewer discussed the recent meeting of 2008 Democratic presidential candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in Selma, Alabama. Democratic strategist Julie Roginsky reeled off all the racial and cultural firsts that the upcoming primaries will have, including Hispanic candidate Bill Richardson. MSNBC News Live host Brewer responded with perhaps a revealing comment:
Julie Roginsky: "Well, I think Hillary Clinton started out with a set of name recognition that nobody else in the Democratic field has. And I think as Barack Obama becomes more known, obviously it makes sense that he would- his name recognition and his numbers would go up. But I think what's important to note here is that this is a set of firsts, not just for the African-American community, but for women, for Hispanics and Bill Richardson. There are so many firsts in this Democratic primary that I think it's really a good time to be a Democrat."
Contessa Brewer: "It's sort of like we're all rooting for everybody all at once."
(Hat tip to eagle-eyed NB reader Gary Hall for catching the comment.)
A transcript of the brief exchange, which aired at 3:10pm on March 5, follows.
Contessa Brewer: "Hey, take a good look, because you probably won’t see this very often. Two Democratic presidential frontrunners and rivals together this weekend. They were commemorating a civil rights march in Selma, Alabama. Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama spoke at two different churches. And Senator Clinton brought a famous guest star, her husband. Democratic strategist Julie Roginsky and Republican strategist Joe Watkins are both here. Nice to see you both with me."
Joe Watkins: "Great to be with you, Contessa."
Julie Roginsky: "Nice to see you."
Brewer: "You know, it wasn't just a chance to celebrate civil rights. This was a real opportunity for Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama to reach out to potential voters. According to recent polls, Barack Obama is gaining ground, Hillary Clinton is losing ground. Julie, why do you think that is?"
Roginsky: "Well, I think Hillary Clinton started out with a set of name recognition that nobody else in the Democratic field has.
Brewer: "It's sort of like we're all rooting for everybody all at once."
Watkins: "Until we find out where people stand on issues."

March 5, 2007 - 18:49 ET by HumanEventsYeah pMSNBC, it's sort of like you're rooting for everybody all at once because "everybody" that you are talking about has a D next to their name in parenthesis.
The MSM love any Democrat. As long as they have a (D) by their name they will be fawned all over. Having a (D) next to your name is the sole reason a newspaper will give you an endorsement.
But ... there's one exception for this election. The Dragon Lady is running. So while the MSM and every other Democrat besides her and the Great Stainmaker will be thrilled with "everybody" (provided they're Democrat), only Hillary is acceptable to the Clintons. She will do anything to win (including speaking in a Southern accent in Alabama [boy if a Republican did this would all the grade Z "civil rights" (NOT!) "leaders" (NOT!) like Sharpy Sharpton and Jesse Jackass be condemning them for years to come!]. For anyone but Hillary to win is totally unacceptable to her and Sick Willie. 2008 is hers! And no one (Obama, Edwards, or whoever) better dare try to take it instead! She is in it to win and she will do whatever lying, stealing, cheating, demonizing, slandering, and bullying it takes to "win".
But yeah, to the liberal news media who pretend they have no bias like pMSNBC, they love any and all DemocRATS.

March 5, 2007 - 20:15 ET by ucAnd who wrote Hillary's speach? Though Lehrer News Hour did manage to make her look good they did leave out the segments I can't believe she orated. It might have been a good weekend for her (the carbetbagger junior Senator) to be out meeting with more of her own constituents about their local struggles and issues. What do they gain by her spending another weekend not struggling with the issues for which they hired her to be their champion? How many people live in New York state and has she yet even managed to meet with even ten percent?
How is it voters around america shouldn't be wondering how much time she would truely spend on their specific issues? I would write more on this but since she really looked like a "manchurian candidate" with her late "wake up call" attempt last week it probably can wait.

March 5, 2007 - 21:05 ET by HumanEventsExactly bigtimer and CT. Obama and Hillary's pandering southern accents may come across silly and hilarious but I am more angry than amused due to the hypocrisy and DOUBLE STANDARD! It's so maddening how Democrats can say and do whatever they want with impunity. The politcal situation really is like that analogy of one sports team battling another sports team and the refs. It'd be like the Pistons (let's use them as Republicans) playing the Lakers (let's use them as Democrats [no offense, all you Laker fans; it's just for analogy purposes]) and the refs let the Lakers hack and hit the Pistons all they want to with never a foul whistle. And in contrast, all the Pistons have to due is touch a Laker with a pinky and a technical personal foul is called at once.
How about Obama also claiming it was the Selma march that led to his parents getting together and giving birth to him. But the Selma march was in 1965 and Obama was born in 1961! Just like Bill Clinton saying, "I have vivid and painful memories of black churches being burned in my own state when I was a child." Never happened! Or when Hillary said her parents named her after Sir Edmund Hillary. But he didn't climb Mt. Everest until 1953 and she was born in 1947! I guess the parents waited over five years to finally come up with a name!
I hate the DOUBLE STANDARD!

BTW Some of Obama's comments on self reliance and good citizenship were very similar to what J.C. Watts, Alan Keyes, Ward Connerly, Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams (among others) have been saying for decades.
