Election Bowl 2008

It is only March, 2007, but for what I coin "Election Bowl 2008", I predict the winner already, Rudy Giuliani....................

Well, I must concede...about Rudy

Well, I must concede, almost a year ago I made a prediction that now must be laid to rest. I was confident in Rudy and now am suprised in McCain's rise. So with this I will keep the thread alive, inviting new predictions and making my own. It will be McCain, I don't like him, I wish it weren't him but I WILL VOTE for him.

Why? Because I am a grown up, because I don't want Hillary or the Obamanation, because when I became a Republican I signed on knowing that the party wasn't filled with just one brand of Republican that favored all my positions.

Now, who will McCain pick for VP and does anyone believe he can beat Hillary?

As well this will be my last post with GO RUDY! (Rudy staying out of the mix of controversy tells me he is aiming for a Cabinet post if a GOP wins).

Shut up and blog! If you claim to be a conservative, please don't disgrace yourself and conservatism by thinking and arguing like a liberal. Go Rudy!

McCain down...a few more to go

McCain down and a few more to go. Frankly I see it as a Giuliani/Thompson ticket.

Election Bowl 2008

Well, with the teams being reduced to 3 for the big Election Bowl of 2008 (and of course down to 2 by Bowl time) and having recovered from my sorrow of both Rudy's loss and my stellar prediction flop, I now move on to...placing my money on McCain.

McCain (man this is tough to type) will win.

Shut up and blog! If you claim to be a conservative, please don't disgrace yourself and conservatism by thinking and arguing like a liberal.

Still Rudy!

I am still confident in Rudy being the final choice with the GOP. Fred is appealing to some right now and the RonPauliacs will just be the GOP Ross Perots of 2008

You may be right.

I personally hope not, but I would vote for him in a minute before any looney leftist.

I'm still hoping Condi Rice will throw her hat in there.  I really, REALLY don't want to support Giuliani.

Condi is great

Condi is great in many ways but I don't believe she is cut out for the job. Giuliani is the man of the hour and I believe he will surprise the most conservative end of the Republican party. There is a Reaganesque quality to the leadership of Rudy that is lacking in anyone right now and I believe when debate time comes he will win over many, many fence sitters. I understand the apprehension but I do believe he is and will be an excellent President.

I'll be blunt.  So far your reasoning for supporting rudy is "Giuliani is the man of the hour and I believe he will surprise the most conservative end of the Republican party. There is a Reaganesque quality to the leadership of Rudy that is lacking in anyone right now and I believe when debate time comes he will win over many, many fence sitters. Rudy is, for all intents and purposes, and Arnie 'conservative'.  In other words, He's liberal running as a conservative republican.  I will avoid supporting him, because if I do, I support the spread of liberalism (just as if I supported McCain).

Condi has foreign policy experience, as well as leadership qualities and is dedicated to the war on terror.  I believe she is supremely qualified to be  president, and I hope she runs.

Hopefully...

Hopefully you aren't gullible enough to believe that a quick post in response to your comment is the sum total of why I support Rudy G, surely I don't believe your support for Condi is en toto represented by your two posts.

But to your idea about Condi. It isn't just experience that makes a person qualified and best fitted for any job. Ronald Reagan is the best example of a man who lacked the specific qualification of having negotiated a foreign policy position on behalf of the United States before becoming President but because he understood specific and undeniable principles of our Republic and what made it what it is, he was able to deal with the Soviet Union on principle, not finese which is what most politicians use today worldwide.

Giuliani, with his obvious personal imperfections has demonstrated that he not only grasps this same reality but employed it in the City/State of New York City. He is a realist with ideas and ideals, but a realist nonetheless and it is his day to day pavement experience in New York City that will make him a confident, directed, and unintimidated leader with an honest assessment of the current conditions of our country and its needs.

I do think Condi has a great deal to offer but she does not have the natural temperment of a national leader.

Still predicting the winner to be....

I happily am still predicting Giuliani the winner of Election Bowl 2008.

Election Bowl 2008...still Rudy G

My question no longer is if it will be Rudy G, it will but who will be his running mate. I wonder if one of the southern second tiers will be a consideration. I will say that I don't see Rudy putting as much stock in the VP role as Bush has.

Shut up and blog! If you claim to be a conservative, please don't disgrace yourself and conservatism by thinking and arguing like a liberal. Go Rudy!

If he gets the nomination, I'

If he gets the nomination, I'll vote for him to keep Hillary or the other socialists out of office, but I hope it doesn't come to that.

RJ thank you- I wrote a post but--

RJ  thank you-  I wrote a post but--cancelled it. I am pro-life. I am not a single issue voter. I have heard or read other issues from Rudy. I will simply say that I cannot distinguish him from some Democrat candidates.

e.g.Giuliani has been criticized for embracing illegal immigration. Giuliani continued a policy of preventing city employees from contacting INS about immigration violations. He ordered city attorneys to defend this policy in federal court. Giuliani has also expressed doubt that the federal government can stop illegal immigration. In April 2006, Giuliani went on the record as favoring the US Senate's comprehensive immigration plan which includes a path to citizenship and a guest worker plan

That is his death knell to me.

misterbill, add to that his appointment of liberal judges

misterbill, add to that his appointment of exclusively liberal judges in spite of his new promise to appoint conservatives.

I seem to recall it was in the neighborhood of 1,000 - is that right?

RJ I do not remember the count, but I do--

RJ I do not remember the count, but I do--remember the ratio 8:1 Democrat appointments to Republican. And folks want this person as their REPUBLICAN President??? Not on my vote.
