Talk amongst yourselves. I'll give you a topic.

NB's Matt Sheffield was featured in a panel discussion at the CPAC conference today about "Conservative Victories with New Media."

What impact will conservative bloggers have in the next two years in furthering conservative ideas on the 2008 campaign trail by holding the candidates to account for their policy stances? To what extent with conservative bloggers and vloggers break news about 2008 candidates that the mainstream media ignore or underreport?

Soros owns Haliburton???????

On my way back from lunch, I heard Rush say that George Soros has purchased a large amount of Haliburton stock. If true, how is the kook fringe going to explain this?

I guess ol' George needs to replace all that money he wasted trying to knock GWB out of office.

Update: Must have mis-googled somehow as I just found this.

Wonder if he bought it from Michael Moore?

Yeah, I posted same link a couple of nights ago, that is where I found it too...at Digg.

Fred Thompson may run!

Dave....

Guess what I just heard and thank goodness I wasn't driving...it floored me.

Fred Thompson may get in the race for Prez...heard it on Fox and it sounded very serious, they say because conservatives are not happy with what we have so far, Carl Cameron or better known as Campaign Carl just reported it!

I for one would be tickled....I watched him in the Senate for years./

bigtimer,

I'd vote for Fred in a heartbeat.  I have always respected him as he impresses me as a real stand-up, no bs kind of guy.  I love the fact that he won his senate seat in Tennessee by driving around the state and pressing flesh. Fred is the genuine article.

Yeah, the choices for real conservatives to this point are pretty slim, indeed. Although it is very early in the process, maybe even a little too early. Tancredo is the only one in the mix so far that even comes close to what I am looking for. His only problem is that most people have never really heard of him. I do not know if he has the resources to change that in any significant way in time to make a difference.

McCain isn't even on my radar. While I respect him for what he went through in Viet Nam and consider him a true war hero, he has done some things to hurt GWB and, from what I hear, is working with Ted Kennedy to cook up some sort of imigration bill that I am sure will involve amnesty of some sort. That will never fly with me.

While I genuinely respect Rudy in many ways and consider him a man with excellent leadership abilities, I would find it very difficult to vote for a man who acted to deny american citizens their God-given constitutional rights under the 2nd Ammendment. As for Newt, for the moment he seems to be flailing around, which is okay for now as long as he doesn't wait too long.

Would not Fred and Newt running against The Hidebeast be a great race? I think it would be.

BT an Dave, I agree, I have always liked Fred Thompson as well.  Hope that pans out.

Back in the mid 90s I used to call myself a "Reagan/Gingrich Republican".  Not anymore, sadly.  Newt has disappointed me in recent years.  Admittedly, I haven't read his latest book but it still is hard for me to get over his making out with Hillary recently.

DaveR and Chicago,

I am so tickled with this news, not getting my hopes up yet, but that good man has a booming deep voice, is totally conservative, and knows the media and politics well...he can out-smart the left any time he wants...easily.

I was broken hearted when he left the Senate, I also was when he lost his daughter as I know what that does to a soul to lose a child, so maybe he is ready now to get back in the ring...the BIG one.

I would like to see Tancredo, Hunter or Newt run with him, my only problem with newt is the media will rehash old stuff just like they did when he was Speaker of the House...just like they have done to Delay...they will rehash it until normal people cannot stand it anymore.

I just hope he runs!

From today's Wall Street Journal Political Diary, 2/13:

+++

Who will rally the libertarians?

It's a sign that some Republican primary voters are dissatisfied with the current field of presidential candidates. Economist Walter Williams, who often substitutes for Rush Limbaugh, has found himself the object of a committee drafting him for president. Of all things, it's headed by a cartoon duck.

It's true. The comic strip "Mallard Fillmore," which is drawn by Bruce Tinsley, has used several installments to urge the 70-year-old George Mason University professor to run for president. The outspoken Mr. Williams has been flooded with e-mails and phone calls from enthusiastic boosters.

For his part, Mr. Williams agrees that career politicians have disappointed conservatives. "I personally think that if we chose the president of the United States at random, we'd get a better president than any president since Ronald Reagan," Mr. Williams told the Washington Times.

Mr. Williams is flattered by the attention but says he already has a candidate: Rep. Ron Paul, a Texas congressman and former 1988 Libertarian Party presidential nominee, who recently announced he is forming an exploratory committee for president. Mr. Williams is under no illusion that Mr. Paul is likely to win but he says Mr. Paul's presence in the debates would be refreshing. "If the framers of the Constitution were somehow to come back, Ron Paul is one of possibly only three people in Congress that they'd even talk to," he says.

The 71-year-old Mr. Paul, a physician, has been in and out of Congress since 1976 when he was one of only four GOP House members to endorse Ronald Reagan's challenge of President Gerald Ford. He has assembled an army of 15,000 individual donors across the nation who endorse his unwavering support for the flat tax, his call for a radical reform of the Food and Drug Administration and his hostility to overseas military conflicts like the war in Iraq and his disapproval of any and all federal trampling of states rights.

Michael Barone, co-author of The Almanac of American Politics, once noted in a profile of Dr. Paul that his agenda has marked him as an "oddball." He concluded: "Of course, in Rep. Paul's view, it's the rest of the nation's politicians, with their devotion to an inherently inflationary currency and self-defeating government programs, who are the oddballs."

For a moment you had me thinking it was all about illegal immigrant babies. No-- every California baby. Hey!

Good news! This will be an incentive for our stupid li'l soft-tails to carry their fetus to term. Anything that reduces our abortion fatality rate and costs Fambly Planning bucks is well-spent, IMHO.

This will be a magnet for every pregnant Mexican girl/woman out there. It's just another layer of welfare.

a living baby's better

Sorry, Rog,

You lose this one. Because there are already "magnets" for the destitute in our society. Meaning: WORK to be had, honest work.

That's what frosts you. You need the pretext of welfare and moochers, to sustain your prejudice. That's why you won't face the truth. Menial occupations are the magnet. Hard workers are pulled by the work magnet of our country.

In any case; to be a living baby though illegally brought here, is better than to be a dead fetus in an American family. That's why conservatives vote Pro-Life.

Actually, El Guapo cannot resist, can't control himself to react instinctively to any story in the (world-famous) Shrub Report® that contains even an inkling of anti-illegal immigration information. He gets his Depends in a bunch everytime.

His NOT being able to answer

His NOT being able to answer my question is very telling, is it not?

The liberal MSM has become an enemy of the USA.

How telling?

I answer questions on the subject here all the time. This is a clue for you, unclear dude:

Why was our happy shrubber so anxioust to accuse the Mexican pregnant girl as an obvious beneficiary of this nice $500 perk; or rather a baby of that origin? Does he assume all pregnant Mexicans come here for this? Naturally he does, he's anti-Mexican. It never occurs to him that the vast majority of Mexicans are born in their own country, today as always. Only a handful of them arrive here IF pregnant & motivated the way he thinks. Not very many at all.

This $500 stuff isn't even before the legislature yet. Why does Roger immediately say the B a a ad Mexicans will get their grubby hands on it? He expects the grandma to have a coyote "bought" with it, to come join in the welfare. The whole mind-set is this: Mexicans are all just opportunists.

All of it is slurs. They're his enemies, even a baby is guilty to Roger. I call that racial prejudice. He can't even deny it.

It is truely amazing how YOU

It is truely amazing how YOU don't get it! the Shrubster and everyone else here is NOT against mexicans, or anyother group. We all have a problem with law breakers! WE understand that people want to get out of an oppressive, backwards, third world, socialist, currupt and money grubbing country, with no hope of ever becoming a world leader with financial and economic freedoms.

The big question is - why can't the rest of us get the same free ride? Why don't we, as tax payers get someting back? When we do, we're called RICH, and the demolibs want to take it back, again! SO, tumble_bum, just so's you feel better, in your little cacoon, can't ever understand the rest of us, world - YES, we hate mexicans, we hate latinos. we ARE prejudiced. Especially babies, without fathers. YES, we hate babies without fathers, and their oppertunistic mothers, who only want to come here and get something for free. And, since we ARE prejudiced, why do these dommies keep wanting to come here? If we are ALL so mean and unforgiving, hateful filled gringos, why DO these stupidos still want to come here? </vent>

I really don't care what your spin is, Fast Eddie. We'v been over all this before. My post was for Roger; the one who slurred every Mexican pregnant woman because he has a personal hard on for the country of Mexico. I wasn't taking you on.

If he resents it, too bad. I resent his continual slurring of the Mexican people. This is tit for tat and no hard feelings. It's not that unusual in our country to meet bigoted folks. I merely want it out in the open. Don't fuss with all the goofy pretexts about law-breaking. We are here discussing human beings.

Still don't get it do you - a

Still don't get it do you - and I take great offense to the "spin" - and I really don't care if your post was for the Shrubster, I have the freedom to make comment too - you're not the only one! When you post here, everyone has the same right to speak, unless of course you're pushing the propganda of mexican controlled thought.

As far as the tit for tat - I, and I'm sure he, doesn't have ANYTHING agains the poor mexicans, who have to come here to get work, 'cause their own government is so currupt, that they then have to break the law to come here, where we, as good hearted saps, give them whatever they can't get from their poor excuse of a government. But the fact is still, they are breaking the law -

Is it your way of thinking that if there is something that isn't your's, you can just take it from sombody else? From your posts, that seems to be the feeling WE are getting. Tell you what, I happen to like the house and car YOU have, so, I'd like you to send it to me, no questions asked, just because. I deserve to get it 'cause I don't have it, and you do, therefore, using YOUR "logic", I should get it  - so when can I expect delivery?

About the continued slurring of the mexican people, proof! Where and when did he say anything against mexicans? You never, never, show proof - typical lib, if you say it it must be true. But you are right - we are bigoted, we don't suffer fools, but you need to know, the one who yells the loudest about bigotry, is usually the bigot - ypur bigotry is against this country. As far as the mexicans are concerned, what about the bigotry the govenment has agains IT's southern neighbors?

you won't be happy

Ed, you won't be happy till you talk my arm off. -- I told you I do NOT care what your opinion is. You're talking about many years ago. You don't know Mexico at all. Its problems aren't that simple. As for you, you aren't supporting anybody but yourself. Mexicans legal or illegal don't depend on you for anything. You're a windbag.

Something of YOURS. There's not one Mexican who wants "YOURS," or any part of yours. Don't flatter yourself. You're just making believe you know something about Mexico. Because you drank a bottle of Corona?

Nope. El Guapo still doesn't

Nope. El Guapo still doesn't get it, gang.

He has his "Illegal Filter" set to maximum these days. All he hears is "Mexico" and goes off like a rabid Chihuahua.

Fortunately, all that chihuahua can do is nip at my shin, and can be easily punted into the next county.

All that yipping and yapping does not change the fact the thousands of illegals, many (but not all) coming from Mejico, and are having their babies at the expense of US taxpayers like me. In 2005, well over 380,000 "anchor babies" were delivered in the USA. If we gave all of those mothers $500 apiece, that would be almost $200 million dollars spent.

It's not bigoted. It's about respect. Illegals show ME no respect by breaking the laws of MY country, using, no, DEMANDING MY resources, respect, privileges, and benefits, without the simple courtesy of following the rules, the same rules my great-great-grandparents did when they came into this country.

But dumbasses like El Guapo just don't seem to understand that. Conservative, my ass.

so glad you say that

Terrific! Roger passing on the enormous expense he is personally undertaking on behalf of the despised babies:

In 2005, well over 380,000 "anchor babies" were delivered in the USA. If we gave all of those mothers $500 apiece, that would be almost $200 million dollars spent.

Izattafact ? that's CHUMP CHANGE. It would NOT go to "anchors" it would be invested in new-born AMERICANS. Barely a fraction in number, actually-- of those American babies who were killed in willing American wombs. Until you face a difficult fact; that the children of these illegals born here are LAWFULLY born citizens, who needs your hate speech? YOU are passe-- obsolete, Roger. In a few years you'll pass form the scene, just as I will.

The babies will become our nation's hope for the future. Nobody anywhere will take your rhetoric into account. Just be forewarned; YOU are toast. Nobody even cares what you expect for your 200 million bucks. This weekend our teens are spending twice that much on rental DVDs. Babies are infinitely more important to America than a weekend of bad movies. You're penny-wise & pound foolish, Rogah. Thank God you have no clout in this controversy.

Some very large fraction of t

Some very large fraction of these kids will grow up not being able to speak or understand English.  All of them will grow up with English as their second language.  They will share little or nothing with mainstream culture.  How could it be otherwise?  They can't particpate in anglophone society.   They are not Americans.   If these babies are our nation's future, then the nation we have now will become extinct.

The Constitution must be amended.  To be born an American citizen, one must not only be born here, but one's mother must be required to be a citizen at time of birth.   Everyone else has to go through  the naturalization process.  This will eliminate the incongruities we have seen in the war against Al Qaeda, where Arabic speaking muslims were found, by virtue of their birth, to be "American Citizens".

there's not a chance, NL

No way is there any change coming.

As for the kids; you're showing your abyssmal ignorance. In nearly every Mexican-American household the children speak nothing but English. Our elderly people lament the loss of Spanish language by the boys & girls. It's only natural. in some homes like my own, we keep the Spanish, but become skilled bi-linguals, a huge advantage on a resume. I ought to know. In our families there's no "ebonics". We learn English, we work. We uphold family values. We are Americans.

In wartime Mexican-hispanic boys enlist. They win honors on the battlefield as proud Americans! Look up the stats in a Google search. Decorated Mexican Americans, World War II, Korea, Nam. We believe in larger families; not abortion.

Too bad you don't believe in

Too bad you don't believe in obeying the law, El Guapo.

You have lost this debate, and with most every other debate on this site. There is no way you will ever be able to justify allowing the floodgates to open, and try as you may, you cannot demonize the vast majority of Americans who disagree with your naive, downright STUPID stance on illegals by calling your opponents bigots or Klansmen. you have somehow confused your rabid Catholicism with your rabid pro-illegal stance.

On the other hand, I can freely call you a dumbass, because you have a proven track record on this site of acting like one.

I am done with you. You may go now.

imagine that

Imagine that; Roger is done with me. Just as he declares I lost this debate, he beats it out the back door. Couldn't find a new slur except by giving away his bias. That's nothing new, or smart.

I've never stood against obedience to our law. Roger knows that. I stand in favor of HUMANITY and love thy neighbor. Here's Roger's "human POV:

"You demonize the vast majority of Americans who disagree with your naive, downright STUPID stance on illegals by calling your opponents bigots or Klansmen." Oh, my. Demonized a "MAJORITY" of Americans? Sorry, Kid; YOURS isn't a majority. It failed as a ploy in the November 06 elections. Had your bigotry had a majority backing you, we'd still control Congress.

Somebody inform Roger. Condemning the racist bent of a few out of the good millions of Americans those few who consistently express hatred for Mexico and illegals in our country, ACTUALLY demonize another person or group-- that is NOT a stupid stance. It's the same stance which Abraham Lincoln stood in when we had the Civil War. INJUSTICE is hateful. Not the LAW-- The law isn't hateful nor should it not have consequences for the violator. The injustice of branding another people unworthy, craven and opportunist, disgraced and unwelcome --even a baby--

That's what I accuse. Not any "majority" Bubba.

you have somehow confused your rabid Catholicism with your rabid pro-illegal stance.

he then slurs my catholicism

"you have somehow confused your rabid Catholicism with your rabid pro-illegal stance."

I'm a good Catholic, even if I confess to be a sinner. That's not RABID. Rabid is a dog with hydrophobia, Roger. Once more your bigotry shines like a dead fish.

I'm not "pro illegal," either. I just protest against your anti-Mexican rants. They're all right here on the record. I never invented any of your hate-speech. But I point it out.

Why don't ya see if you can g

Why don't ya see if you can give this a rest for say a whole week tumb?

There are plenty of other subjects every single day...bet ya can't do it though.

again I agree, BT

It was long back I stated we're beating a dead horse. I hate that.

It's not my knee-jerk reaction to return with a whip every time the subject comes up.

I merely can't ignore it when the Mexican illegal is dragged through the mud once again, for the hundredth time. When the "anchor baby" BS comes flying out of the fan at me.

Anchor babies means BORN HERE AS CITIZENS. It doesn't denote some kinda leech, as Roger would have it.

...

You stand against obedience t

You stand against obedience to the law by saying it does not apply to people who cross our southern border. It is your continually calling anyone a racist who says that people should come to this country legally that causes them to react to you with anger this an old lib trick when they have an indefensable position switch the person who has the facts and the law on their side to the defensive by saying that they are engaging in hate speech, calling them a bigot, saying that they hate blacks, hispanics, women, etc. ad infinitum. You have no standing on this issue until you can show a racist remark without having to do more than linkl to it. Every hoop that you have to jump through to prove your point only weakens your case. Not that you ever had one to begin with all you ever done that I have seen is call anyone who disagrees with you a racist, you have yet to engage them in any debate on this subject.

You said,

You stand against obedience to the law by saying it does not apply to people who cross our southern border.

Much preferable to legal dead fetuses. You don't understand? American girls are exterminating the Anglo-American majority. Too many selfish liberated women. What don't you get? You and Barbara Boxer...

He asks, "answer my question that you refused to answer the last time I asked. How does my desire to have people come to this country LEGALLY not ILLEGALLY make me a racist?"

You aren't a racist for wanting everything to be done legally. I myself (in these blogs) have supported the capture & deportation of law-breakers. I certainly don't think I'm a racist for that.

Yet there are a few here who have tried to brand me a racist. They failed.

Thanks for the good laugh today, El Guapo.

you are old as dirt, but naive as a niño muy pequeño.

Somehow you got confused, comparing people coming to Cali to cash in their $500 (from within the US AND beyond) to all those hard-working illegals you so tireless toil and kvetch over.

You are a truly-confused old man, El Guapo. Is today "fish fry" day at the home?

just think, roger

The first time I have to agree with ya. I really am a guapetone. Don't have to make it up. A few years ago, while visiting friends in Mexico City, a little tot, 4 year-old girl was fascinated by old tumbler. (I hate to sound like um bragging.)

My host "axed" Lupita, --Why are you staring? Do you like the Senor?

She answered: "Parece el jefe del Tatu." They ALL used to say I was a ringer for Ricardo Montalban, but I laughed it off. I never took it serious. Until this cute baby said it. I coulda fainted on the floor. Yeah-- I'm El Guapo, eat your heart out. --Lol!

BTW; YOU compared them, not I. --A slur.

I must admit that was some years ago. I've got a lot of miles on me. I'll be 70 in November. My lovely wife and I celbrate our silver wedding anniversary this year on May 1.

We're flying to Paris the last week of April (the old tune) one week, then Rome 5 days, train to Florence 2 last days. -- Second honeymoon. My wife is just turned 48. I'm 21 years older, and the happiest guy in the world. God has been kind to the tumbler.

Happiest man in the world....

...wouldn't that make it like your third honeymoon, didn't ya just get back from the same places you mentioned awhile ago...

I remember wishing you well and having  safe flight....

yeah, BT

You're right. It's on account of my wife. When we came back in October, I remarked how fabulous I thought Rome is. (Paris almost that much), and she quietly went online and shopped for flights over there for the anniversary. She found 2 seats business class on Air France for just $4,000 RT. They throw in up & back to Rome for just $60 more each seat. Incredible bargain. Then the hotels, etc., but they COST.

She has a huge talent for those things. And travel is her greatest joy. Hell, she deserves everything and more. I'm crazy about her.

News Flash: dumbass white suburban kids are beginning to realize that rap music sucks!

What the hell is "hip hop" and "rap"? You mean I missed a whole generation of great music? Damn talk radio!!!!

Well, I thank him too...as I usually do.

Guess I just didn't get to that link, I know I commented on one of them this morning...

Busy busy busy....

Lol!

Not just the music..it's a "Blacklash".

It isn't just the music...but the culture and people who are what makes Rap. Yes, white kids are realizing they too have a heritage and they aren't black. In fact, there is a very strong Anti-Rap movement with suburbans and apparently the MsM's attempts to shame white kids into hating their own heritage is finding its typical end...forced and unnatural culturalism that results in a "blacklash" bigger than the scheme of the original perpetrators...interesting what is on YouTube these days (and for you PC types spare me the hyper-sensitive wet your pants I need mommy cries of honest racial dialogue called racism...find a tree to hug already you little fags).

Shut up and blog! If you claim to be a conservative, please don't disgrace yourself and conservatism by thinking and arguing like a liberal. Go Rudy!

80's rap and early 90's was pretty cool

Back in the 80's and early 90's there were some pretty cool rap songs as I recall.

Run DMC had lots of cool songs.  "King of Rap", "Christmas in Hollis"  "You be Illin" but they shouldn't have redone Aersomith's classic "Walk This Way" as I didn't care much for that one.

Robb Base with "It Takes Two" was pretty cool, and my favorite had to be the Dream Warriors "Wash Your Face in My Sink".

"Rappers Delight" was pretty cool too, but I have to admit I haven't listened to any of it since the early 90's, so I know extremly little about any current stuff.

"For never ever will I fall fall to the effects of bandwagonism
So please listen
Up not down
For down is the devil
So roll like a boulder and not like a pebble"  'Wash Your Face in My Sink'

As with anything, there's goo

As with anything, there's good and bad rap. Good: Tribe Called Quest, Beastie Boys, old school stuff. I hate rap videos, though. They're moronic. And the rap "gangsta" mentality. Blah.

Just like in rock there's Van Halen and then there's...Winger.

Not so....ALL rap is CRAP!!!!

"She's Only Seventeen"

You mean you wouldn't want to listen to "She's Only Seventeen" over "Cabo Wabo"?

How many Kinks songs did Van Halen cover?

"Where have all the good times gone?"

Ahh yes, She's Only Seventeen

Ahh yes, She's Only Seventeen, the only song about the moral dilemma of statutory rape. :-)

Old Van Halen was sweeet. Jamie's Crying, Runnin' with the Devil, etc.

Why? Well, a number of NB readers have told me that they would not have heard, at all, about Dr. Paul's candidacy, period, but for sarcasmo doing the media's job for them, for free.
