Disparate Coverage At LA Times Continues: McCain Vs. Obama

In January, when Barack Obama made the mere announcement of a presidential exploratory committee, the Los Angeles Times trumpeted the news with a headline, color photo, and text box on the top of its front page. (See the image here.)

So how did the Times cover Sen. John McCain's big announcement Wednesday night (2/28/07) on David Letterman's Late Show? The announcement was buried the next day on the bottom of page A14 within a modest, 485-word article about McCain's fundraising. The article is called, "California titans join McCain's campaign team" (Thu. March 1, 2007), and the "coverage" of the announcement covers a measly 31 words.

Disparate treatment? Of course. We have already reported on the LA TImes' unequal treatment so far in the 2008 campaign here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.

Did McCain announce? Thought

Did McCain announce?

Thought he was going to make the really really big one in April....lol!

Would we really expect anything different from the L.A. rag?

I think not.

Only hope

I am quite sure that Republicans, in general, will not want to hear this but I feel it in my bones. McCain, Rudy G, Mit R. or any of the other so-called Republican candidates stand less of a chance of being elected than Bob Dole did. As a matter of fact it will be the Bob Dole "fools errand" all over again.

Here's what it boils down to. The only salvation for a successful Conservative run for the White House is NEWT GINGRICH!!!!!!

Yes, the MSM hates him; that's a plus. Yes, the so-called moderates hate him and who cares about them anyway. They never stood for anything and never will. They should be called the David Gergen Coward Party anyway. Vote them all out.

Yes, it would be spoiling for a fight but it is time for a fight. Newt would bring a passion to the race that we have not seen in a long time. Newt is playing it just right in laying back for a few months.

The main idea is that conservatives need to divorce themselves completely from the luke warm John/Rudy/Mit waltz and rare back to hit them in the mouth with Newt. We need to start talking about it right now.

I like Newt just fine, I agr

I like Newt just fine, I agree with most of what you posted, we have along way to go yet....

Lets not forget Duncan Hunter though...he got 80 votes in the SC straw poll that surprised me...but made my day!

Hunter/Bolton all the way!

From what I read on Hunters p

From what I read on Hunters platform I think he hits many home runs.  He is definately the most conservative of the current pack.  It would be fun to see all the liberals go absolutely crazy if he starts winning.

Less for Rudy, Dave

Even less for Rudy Giulliani, Dave. When Rudy announced on Larry King Live a couple of weeks ago, the LA Times printed nothing.  Zip. Silence. He's not important for the readers of the LA Times to be familiar with, after all, he's the frontrunner in the polls.

PS - McCain - Why can't the LA Times, simply do a straight story. The headline should read: "John McCain Appears on Letterman and Announces his Candidacy." Instead, they, it seems, almost always bury the news in some piece that calls into question some other going on - like fundraising, or dipping to the needs of the right-wing conservative base, or can he satisfy "them." In my view, the Times is shaping the news, way out front here, to weaken the Republican candidates at all costs.

Great continuing coverage of the Obama Times, Dave.

McCain? Giuliani? Hunter? Gin

McCain? Giuliani? Hunter? Gingrich? Romney? Wow! What a great field you guys have to pick from! And don't forget Tancredo and Gilmore! Those guys are sure to light a fire in the hearts and minds of Americans. A bunch of crusty white men, each one older than the other. Truly inspirational!

For real, though, the only guy who has a chance is Giuliani. Unfortunately for you, there's no way the party of traditional values would elect a dude who wore a dress. And supports gay rights. And gun control. And the right to choose.

And don't forget about his three wives, one of whom was his second cousin. And his ties with Bernie Kerik. And his draft dodging.

On the left, we're just trying to decide which candidate we like best. Decisions, decisions.

Reality has a well known liberal bias.

I would vote for any of the above before I would ever vote for a pair of committed Marxist/Leninists such as the Hildebeast, or that Barack Hussein Obama guy. Like he has a chance.

You seem to not like white people very much. Sounds like you may have a problem there. Are you perhaps a person of color who was told by your commie professors that whites are responsible for all the problems in the world, so now you hate white people? Perhaps you are one of those self-loathing whites who were brainwashed into self-hatred by your freedom-hating communist professors, and are now working for the destruction of your way of life as well as your country.

Oh, in case you haven't noticed, the Hildebeast is as white as a sheet.

Besides, it may not really matter, because if the dems in congress continue to show there true colors by supporting the defeat of this country in Iraq, and if the current disarray and incompetence of Pelosi and Reid continues unchanged, as I believe it will, the democrat party is probably headed for one hell of a defeat in '08.

Last time I checked, the republican party is out in front of the dims in taking in campaigb dough. Call it voters remorse, if you will.

Btw...I was going to answer waki, but Coulter came up and I decided to enjoy myself and let someone else do him in....as I see you fella's have done a splended job....thanks Dave too...you said a lot of what I was going to.

He seems to be a dump and run type of little troll...kinda reminds me of lilliepad.

And this is how and why you libs and super-libs lose...

waka...reality hit you once, possibly accidentally and that was in the recent elections...but it is obvious that reality didn't hit as hard as you all want to claim with idiots like you who represent the common mentality of the Democrats. Giuliani is leading ALL polls you nitwit...that means with Dems, Repubs and Independents combined he leads all challengers right now...but that fact escapes you Dingleberry Democrats as usual.

The fact is some evangelicals won't like Rudy...in the end they won't have a choice and UNLIKE during DULL DOLE in '96...Giuliani captures many many fence sitters and Independents which Dole lost to the the Little Gypsy Taxi Running With Its Doors Wide Open...namely Ross Perot.

I am an Evangelical and obviously you aren't...there are many supporting Giuliani for pragmatic reasons...they realize that overall this man can lead and will lead and lends and ear to the Evangelicals. No, he won't mouth the "I am born-again" routine but he will listen and in reality it is refreshing to see a man unintimated by Bullies like James Dobson and Falwell who demand acquiescence or else...and many Evangelicals are tired of these personalities dictating who to vote for and using the name of God to sanction their claims that "so and so" is the best and most right candidate so says God.

Shut up and blog! If you claim to be a conservative, please don't disgrace yourself and conservatism by thinking and arguing like a liberal. Go Rudy!

Rudy has the best chance out

Rudy has the best chance out of all the GOP candidates, but it will all be moot if we aren't out of Iraq or showing significant progress by spring 08. If we are still in roughly the same position militarily at that point that we are now, the Dems could nominate Kathleen Johnson and still win the White House.

New York set Rudy straight...

Rudy is a realist and what sets him apart from W is quite a bit. Rudy was in the trenches in New York and either you had the answer for tomorrow's problems yesterday or you were toast...he quickly learned that idealism isn't always realism. Rudy is as pragmatic as they come. He understands what people need in leadership. The problem with W in this area is that he never had daily and weekly press confrences with some Yankee journalist who had no rules of courtesy  exposing and questioning his lastest flaw of thinking, W got to pick and choose to whom and when he answered and in Texas there was a lot of people to pass blame to when failure came, Rudy didn't have such convenient escapes. Rudy had to learn and did that idealism is fine...but people need workable answers if you want to govern well you have to have real answers, not just answer for your favorite citizens and in New York during Rudy's tenure after DORKINS,  there was little room for b.s.

W. was loved and coddled in Texas and could pick and choose who he answered to, Rudy couldn't, it was brutal and he learned. I think in the end, Rudy will have very honest answers for Iraq but right now he isn't addressing it so dogmatically and wisely so, but I do believe he is examining it right now and formulating as honest and realistic a solution as possible.

Shut up and blog! If you claim to be a conservative, please don't disgrace yourself and conservatism by thinking and arguing like a liberal. Go Rudy!

My favorite thing that Rudy d

My favorite thing that Rudy did as Mayor was when he released Patrick Dorismond's juvenile arrest record to the media...that showed 'em! Don't think you will be given any kind of justice just because you were killed by the police in a case of mistaken identity!

Do it like a G.O.!

Another disgruntled

Yeah we know...another disgruntled black person or some form of white, hyper-sensitive and self-hating lib or super-lib that fell for the white guilt syndrome concocted by racists like Jesse Jackson...same story...same whine...and wants somemore cheese. It wasn't Rudy's greatest moment...but of course no candidate will be perfect...something you will demand from everyone but of course never deliever yourself...just more petty criticisms...yes life is passing you by and you remain clueless how to make it work for your benefit. Stay stupid if you want but that is your choice (and for the record it wasn't mistaken identity, it was an undercover drug deal gone by because Dorismond attack the officer and went for his gun).

Shut up and blog! If you claim to be a conservative, please don't disgrace yourself and conservatism by thinking and arguing like a liberal. Go Rudy!

You're right, it wasn't Rudy'

You're right, it wasn't Rudy's finest moment... he was at his best when defending his officers after they shot Diallo 41 times! The lesson: don't go for your wallet!

You're correct, it was an undercover drug deal gone bad...except only the undercover cops were in on the deal. Dorismond just thought it was some dudes messing with them, so he tried to protect himself. I thought conservatives believed in self-defense?

Do it like a G.O.!

Hey Hula Dancer,Thanks for yo

Hey Hula Dancer,

Thanks for your take on our helpless situation. It seemed so heartfelt. Based on your thought provoking analysis, I assume you'll be voting Republican next year:

"Unfortunately for you, there's no way the party of traditional values would elect a dude who wore a dress"

You voted twice for a married guy who left his Presidential mark all over an intern's dress.

"And supports gay rights. And gun control. And the right to choose."

Three issues that I'm sure make you feel all gooey inside.

"And don't forget about his three wives, one of whom was his second cousin"

First cousin, second cousin, who cares? You don't make judgements on behavior of any kind.

"And his draft dodging."

As long as he truth dodges as well, I'm sure you'll be fine with it.

"On the left, we're just trying to decide which candidate we like best."

I'm sure there's a poll coming out tomorrow to confirm your moral convictions.

Let me get this logic straigh

Let me get this logic straight: Killing babies is a sacrament, but marrying your second cousin! straight to hell with you.  Since you have no core values or beliefs, why should any behavior bother you?  It was someone's 'choice', nothing to judge or fret about.  Give up the false outrage and morality, chick.  You have nothing to stand on.

I can say that right? Ann Coulter just did at CPAC. I guess that beats talking about Iraq.
