America as 'Imperialistic Bully' in Vietnam Now 'Sounds Familiar' to CBS Character

Photo of Brent Baker.

It seems no genre of television is safe from gratuitous shots at how the Iraq war makes the U.S. an “imperialistic bully.” On Sunday's episode of Cold Case, a drama about a supposed squad of Philadelphia Police Department detectives who solve old murders, a witness is questioned about a 1981 murder of a husband and wife who were anti-Vietnam war hippies. When the woman who attended a college reunion party shortly before the murders recalls how “I was still kind of stuck in my old hippy ways. Didn't fit very well into the decade of greed,” “Detective Scotty Valens” points out how they all attended college “at the height of the Vietnam war.” That leads the woman, who by the end of the show is arrested as the murderer, to recall how the victims “were protesting against an America that had become an imperialistic bully.” To which “Detective Lilly Rush,” the star of the program played by Kathryn Morris, chimes in with an obvious allusion to Iraq: “Sounds vaguely familiar.” (Screen shot is of “Lilly Rush" talking to the witness/criminal.)

Lily

I assume "Scotty" is Richie's illegitimate offspring.  Lily is everything I want in my female detective.  That is, brainless with dirty, unwashed, straggly hair in the world's worst cut,...I assume that's a female comb over or exceptionally bad wig.

Hey Lily, just wait until the islamofascists take over.  Your program will be gone in a heartbeat as will your Hollyweird liberal pals.  Of course maybe they'll let you work in "Burka".  That would be fun, wouldn't it?

While this stupid b**** sits in LaLaLand making a million dollars a week for exhibiting her no-talent ass, brave men are dying to protect her sorry butt and all she can do is flap her traitorous lips at them!

Don't watch this drivel anyway!

What is it with these TV females these days? It seems it is now chic and vogue to present yourself as a skanky, dirty, unkempt piece of slutty garbage.

Was there any bullying after the US left?

I can't wait until this show does an episode about a Vietnamese survivor from a reeducation camp.  I'm sure there wasn't any bullying by the left wing Communists in those camps now were there.  How about the left wing North Vietnamese assisting Pol Pot after the US left?  Now, if you get your history from left wing college professors then you would be taught that Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge weren't bullying anyone.

Checkout this quote from the below link.

"The Vietnamese communists swiftly allied themselves with the Khmer Rouge--as Sihanouk had dismissively labeled Pol Pot's group--against the new regime in Phnom Penh. The Vietnamese provided the rag-tag Khmer Rouge with arms and training."

The whole idea of American Imperialism is crap.

The whole idea of American Imperialism is crap.

Its Marxist and its wrong and it distorts the entire history of America with respect to its international ambitions and relations, particularly with respect to its wars.

If we were an Imperialistic country, the entire Southern Hemisphere would be an American colony and the Japanese would be speaking English and playing cowboy and indians wearing six-shooters as toy guns and not samari swords.

Europe would be saluting the American Flag and the ex-Soviet Bloc States would be petitioning to become part of the Union.

Give me a break.

Dialogue like that quoted in this article just reinforces my conclusion that there's nothing worthwhile for me in contemporary TV dramas.

As Tom Paine's noted how many real cop shops display prominently a 4 by 3 foot poster for “Amnesty” International? I mean the parts of the station where the actual street cops solve actual crimes. Possibly a massive ZERO?

But the Muslim headed, violently anti-American leftoid controlled organization Amnutsy International does have its supporters in make-believe cop shows. The makers of the tedious TV series “Cold Case” for one.

Anyone with the misfortune to watch this truly idiotic show can’t fail to notice the huge poster usually featured behind our ice queen heroine cop played by the rather attractive, if somewhat sickly pale, Kathryn Norris.

The producers manage at least one long lingering shot every show. So intent are they at ensuring the whole poster is shown, they place it very high on the wall and shoot up (not in a drugs sense, but who knows).

And leftoids wonder where on earth conservatives get the idea that many mainstream entertainment TV shows have a relentless liberal agenda which they are determined to push 24/7? It’s insidious and never ending.

Law & Order in a high grade example of self-lefteous actors, writers and producers who never stop denigrating conservative views. It's a game that never grows old for them. They are deadly serious about it. Nothing happens in a finished TV show by accident. If it ain't on the page, it ain't on the screen, period.

Back to Cold Headcase though, the plots are utterly contrived and illogical.

The acting's up to snuff, but what’s PARTICULARLY ODIOUS is each episodes last minute wrap-up scene in slow-mo. The ice maiden is invariably caught sweeping a stray hair from her face, sporting an enigmatic/smug smile, while the newly vindicated dead victim appear off in the distance waving to her, happy in the knowledge she's solved the case. She nods back.

It's truly sickbag inducing.

I WISH America acted imperial

I WISH America acted imperialistically once in a while, but we never do. America gives so many handouts to so many undeserving nations it's pitifull. Even in Iraq we treat the enemy with way too much civility. The problem with liberal's is that they "throw around" very serious words with VERY serious meanings. Like Imperialistic, nazi-like, or fascist. America has been called all of these things but it just isn't true.

If we were imperialistic we would halt all immigration for 10-20 years to fight overpopulation. We would leave the United Nations and tell Europe we were not going to protect them anymore. We would attack Cuba and Venezuala. We would stop all funding for Israel. We would complete our Star Wars program...etc.

Do we do any of the above? NO. Because America has always helped lesser fortunate countries out that were in a bind. SAME thing we are doing in Iraq, whether people want to believe it or not.

She probably came up with that line on her own and nearly wet her pants getting the Director to allow her to say it. "Oh, oh, oh. I got one, I got one, I got one!" Probably thinking "Susan Saranwrap will think me sooo clever" <as she giggles>

Anti Vietnam Veterans Show

Last season's Cold Case show had an episode showing a Vietnam vet  as the bad guy. As a Vietnam Veteran I was upset but continued to watch the show. About five weeks later they had another episode about a Vietnam Veteran. This episode had him killing his girfriend or wife, can't remember and also a killing a Vietnamese family when he was in Vietnam. I have not watched the show since then.

I thought TV shows showing the Vietnam Veteran as the crazed lunatic killer went out of  favor in the late 70's. Now, with the Iraq war, Liberals in the media are bashing all war veterans.

Mikebromo:

Get used to it.  I am fully expecting to see a whole batch of "He used an IED that he learned in Iraq" plotlines for TV crime thrillers in the coming years.

That and "He tortured him like he did in Abu Ghraib" plotlines showing us as crazed Iraq war vets....

Of course, we will never see "He is a crazed Move-on protestor or Code Pink wacko who murdered his girlfriend and put her in a trunk in the attic" like what really happened in Philly post Vietnam.

BD you are a bad person

First of all Mike, thank-you for your service in Vietnam.

Now, second BD, don't you know you are a bad person bringing up Ira Einhorn killing his girlfriend.  Ira Einhorn is a left winger and no one is allowed to say bad things about fine upstanding left wing citizens such as him.  So what if he killed his girlfriend and fled to France.  He claims he was the originator of Earth Day, and that far outways any murder.

I actually rather liked the show

I kind of liked that show. It often played the old music, talked about the old days.  I was watching when that bit played and immediately caught it.  I swore, almost threw something at my brand spanking new plasma TV, and my wife told me to relax.  I don't know if I'll continue to watch, but it really turned me off, in fact, I did write a note to the network execs telling them what a cheap shot their writers stuck in this episode.  And that there were probably a lot of Americans that watched the show regularly, but would be seriously offended by the show calling their country an "imperialist bully".  Even most of those Americans that are now questioning the Iraq policy don't believe their country is a bully....that nonsense is left up to the loons on the far left.  Of course, the alphabet channels have long since crossed the line into the lunatic fringe of the American left.  Too bad,  because the show has a pretty good premise.
