It's one thing to call the war in Iraq tough and a struggle but it's quite another to say our brave fighting men and women in the region are facing "humiliation," and "annihilation," yet those were the words MSNBC's Chris Matthews used on last night's Hardball as he opposed the surge policy. During a discussion with the National Review's Kate O'Beirne and Democratic strategist Steve McMahon, Matthews once again threw his hands up in defeat as he depressingly declared the following on the February 15th edition of his show:
Chris Matthews: "I will repeat what I've said 100 times and will say 100, a 100 times more. The worst thing this president did in terms of U.S. policy was put our country, which we are in now, a situation where there are no good alternatives. That is not good leadership, to lead you into a blind canyon when all you can do is face complete humiliation over there, or continued annihilation over there and horror over there or this weird sort of redeployment stuff. I don't know what the great alternative is now. That's the failure of this policy, we done have any alternatives now."

February 16, 2007 - 14:23 ET by BDDear Chris Mathews.
What is the largest US unit to be "Annihilated" to date in Iraq? Company? Battalion? Regiment?
Actually it is at the squad level in which a single squad was killed in an aircraft crash. If this is a field formation being "Annihilated", then we obviously lost WWII when we lost entire divisions in the field.
What a moron.

February 16, 2007 - 15:49 ET by I am conservativeI am frankly tired of this nonsense from this (as O'reilly would say) "pinhead." This guy gets lost going potty let alone knowing anything about foreign policy or military matters. Comments from this drooling idiot are getting old and I'm becoming tiresome of his remarks regarding our great military and it's members. This guy is another example of the elite minded MSMer who thinks nothing of our country but more about their wallets and fame. Ahole....
And what's even more annoying
February 16, 2007 - 16:03 ET by HypocriteHaterAnd what's even more annoying is that idiots like Chissy think they're actually helping our troops by calling for their withdrawal, no matter how many of our troops tell them that progress is being made and they want to finish the job they started.
Libs like him are like little children who stick their fingers in their ears and say "la la la la, I can't hear you, la la la", whenever statements from our military are contrary to the libs' retreat and defeat agenda.

February 16, 2007 - 19:33 ET by SportPoliticsBD it's not like the truth matters to liberals anymore. They'ell say it, say anything, and make it sound as bad as possible. The truth means nothing, it's all about their emotion and how much they can work up a feeling of immense failure or powerlessness or a crying inner child, and their outlandish crackpot characterizations help them to do so.
Some jerkoff dimmy on HarpyBawl said the war is already lost. The next jerkoff liberal said the same thing, " a neverending war that can't be won ".
I'm so sick of listening to these fatalistic prognosticators.
I suppose if the best military in the world hasn't won a simple little war in Iraq, we might as well surrender whomever the superior force is.
I'd like to have the left dim dem libs tell me who we are surrendering to, since according them we're already defeated, and we lost.
LOL - Man,someone put a sock in their mouth or explain to them they sound like idiotic fools. Someone help those people, they're deranged.
It's getting really bad out there. They keep getting further and further away from the truth.
Last night some shrieking moron said Israel lost the war in Lebanon. I asked the idiot if he would rahter have been a Lebanese or an Israeli at the time. Then I noted that Lebanon was invaded and destroyed, and Israel was not invaded and not destroyed.
I saw the insanity back then. Since Israel didn't kill every single Hezzbollah fighter in Lebanon, the idiots of the world declared they lost. Lots of right wingers said it at the time. I'm sure someone righty wants to now.
Problem is, if the opposite happened, and Hezzbollah had invaded and destroyed Israel, without killing every Israeli soldier, not a single one of these poo-poohers would have claimed Hezzbolla lost.
It's amazing to me how even in the Israeli Lebanon case, the winners were called losers, and the losers weresaid to have won.
Upside down BS is no doubt the way the new world order mind ***k idiocy is supposed to work.
I can understand being nice and saying Israel only half crushed Hezzbollah and left under international pressure before killing all of them, but anything more than that, and especially declaring defeat for Israel is so beyond ridiculous, it must be some kind of happy badge for "deep thinkers".

February 16, 2007 - 14:29 ET by cvgbuckeyeAlthough Chris Matthews is not the only one, he is certainly one of the captains of the team. Matthews, the MSM AND most of the DEMOCRAT party have a vested interest in the defeat of The United States of America in Iraq.
So much so that they have gotten brazen enough to fall juuuuuust short of rooting against our forces publicly. You can bet that in private, they raise their fists in the air and cheer with anything negative that happens to us in Iraq.
I HONESTLY believe that Matthews and his ilk would pull the trigger and shoot an American serviceman, to up the body count by one more so they could crow even louder. I REALLY BELIEVE THAT!
They would only fall short of one method that I wish that the MSM, Matthews and his ilk AND the DEMOCRAT party would use and that would be to employ suicide bombing. But in a way they are already doing that but it is with American lives; not their own.
These detractors have the blood of countless American soldiers on their hands with their terrorist embolding positions.

Vietnam was the same in this respect, but we would have had to declare war on China in order to stop the insurgency in Vietnam. This would have turned into WWIII in a heartbeat. Bombing Iran into submission, however, will prevent WWIII by taking mass-produced nuclear warheads away from those who do not subscribe to M.A.D. as a deterrent. February 16, 2007 - 14:36 ET by FastEdOf all the folks that visit here on a regular basis, there has to be somebody who has a degree in medicine. To that person, I ask; Is there a condition, that is indicated by the "dumbness" of media 'personalities', due to either the proximity of DC, liberals, or other media types? I think there has to be a correlation to the apparent lack of IQ to either the air being commonly inhaled or the water being shared by these 'personalities'.

I too am curious about this.
On a recent visit to Crystal City (those that know D.C. know CC) I had the pleasure of walking to a small Italian restaurant and dining in very close quarters to the other restaurant patrons. Afterwards, I walked around looking in some of the shops and even made a purchase at a junk/antique store. All this time I had on an old 'Rush is Right' sweat-shirt. The looks I got scared my wife, but I laughed it off. Just before we entered our Hotel a lovely young lady walked up to me and announced 'why don't you go to Iraq you coward'. As I asked her the same question my wife dragged me into the Hotel lobby. Later that evening my wife asked what disease is creeping into our society, so I gave her my usual replies. Now after some reflection I'm wondering if I'm wrong and there truly is a verifiable disease.

I know exactly the make up
February 16, 2007 - 23:44 ET by liberal_bug_zapperI know exactly the make up of a Liberal... they're all Bipolar and sadly, I think they never really get away from their depression state as they keep making up bigger and bigger disasters, doomsday predicitons and vast disparities between peoples.
Bipolar disorder was once known as manic-depression. It is a diagnosis in psychiatry referring to periods of extreme, often inappropriate, and sometimes unpredictable mood states.
Bipolar individuals generally experience mania, hypomania or mixed states alternating with clinical depression and euthymic or normal range of mood over varied periods of time.
Signs and symptoms of the depressive phase of bipolar disorder include (but in no way are limited to): persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, guilt, anger, isolation and/or hopelessness.
In the context of bipolar disorder, a mixed state is a condition during which symptoms of mania and clinical depression occur simultaneously (for example, Evan agitation, anxiety, aggressiveness or belligerence).
I'd say this describes Liberals to a tee. Out here in the wider world, people are liberal and conservative, yet to not ascribe those names to their beliefs. They just fall into place quite easily.
There are those of us who are eternal optimists. We have faith in the ability of man to rise above whatever position he finds himself in.
Liberals believe whatever your lot in life, that's pretty much it... and there is almost no hope of changing that without a big government forcing it. They're faithless in individuals, but forever faithful in government. They despise anyone who is confident and who succeeds as they believe you had to take from someone in order to gain what you have.

February 16, 2007 - 14:48 ET by acaiguanaFrom a recent (last year or so) student of MSM bias on this site I'd have to say that as the 'surge' goes forward and the tide changes at even a greater pace; as the Al Qaeda elements in Iraq are killed and exposed; as Iran's QUDs forces are killed and exposed; we will see an agonizing breakdown of the Leftist Media on a scale not yet witnessed.
Look for near tirades by these people to include screaming fits to impeach Bush growing louder and as Iraq grows more and more peaceful; watch for the American people to turn tide also and let the bums know they are no longer being listened to or believed.

there's an upside
February 16, 2007 - 16:08 ET by tumbler_2007Upon reflection, there's a terrific upside, and advantage for the Right; about the lunacy Chris Matthews keeps mouthing in his appearances. Like any lunatic, he shows his stripes even when he's trying hard to seem the great pundit. It's not that easy to remain persuasive in a TV strobe. As any director knows, the camera never blinks; every minced word, all the tics, the body language:
Have an accumulative effect on the viewers. Along in time comes the unavoidable feeling; "This guy's nuts." He harms his own credibility and with it the agenda he keeps touting. I hope he enjoys many more years of his madness.
Every day he'll shake up another few Lefties, sending them into a bout of self-awareness. Man, is that my party ? ? ? Is this blather the convictions of a liberal ? I gotta snap out of it !" --In short; Matthews is GOOD for the GOP. He's GOOD for George W. Bush.

February 16, 2007 - 15:20 ET by Carl KolchakI wonder what kind of speeches Matthews was writing for Carter after the botched attempt to rescue the American hostages in Iran. Anyone remember the disgraceful response by the Iranians when they paraded around the dead bodies of those soldiers? I wonder if Matthews thought Carter was being humiliated by that, and what kind of swell speech Matthews might write.
Was it humiliating for Carter to have that happen, or have American hostages being held in Iran? How about the hostages who claimed they were abused? I wonder what kind of speeches smart guy Matthews was writing back then.

February 18, 2007 - 09:12 ET by acaiguanaChris Matthews shows the frustration and lack of imagination of the Left and Liberals on the Iraq war.
Why haven't they come up with a reasonable alternative? Well, because the only reasonable alternative is victory. Since that requires them to support the Administration in the war and encourage the morale of our troops and the country (contrary to their real goal of seizing power) they are just stuck.
So, their only alternative is 'cut and run'.
That is the 'box canyon' that Matthews is referencing.
So sad, too bad.
