Washington Post media critic Howard Kurtz gives readers of today's Style page a look at conservative blogger Michelle Malkin, and his portrait, at least to my eye, painted conservative blogger and author as paranoid, vindictive, obsessive and shrill.
Read and judge for yourselves.
This line was particularly annoying to me:
Over lunch at a Filipino cafe at Union Station, Malkin, who has two young children, is charming one moment and pugnacious the next.
I'd argue her charm as a blogger and author is entwined in her pugnacious personality.
What's more, can you imagine Kurtz or another media critic saying the same of feisty liberal pundits, like say Maureen Dowd?
Update 02:01 by Matthew Sheffield: Speaking of Dowd, here's a profile Kurtz wrote about her in 2005. Nowhere does he admit the obvious, that she's a lefty.
UPDATE (09:21 EST): For a more thorough critique of Kurtz's piece, check out See-Dubya's take at Hot Air.:
Kurtz goes on to dwell on her outrageous pugnacious in-your-faceousness, and doesn’t give Michelle much credit for being anything but a controversialist.
[...]
ONE MORE THING: We’re just coming off a major story about the two
blushing songbirds John Edwards hired and fired as campaign bloggers.
Kurtz’s “Michelle Malkin as Lone Wolf McQuade” piece looks utterly
risible when you compare Michelle to those genuinely venomous and bitter characters who just exited the national spotlight, stage left.

February 16, 2007 - 06:14 ET by sarcasmoI just get the chills every time I think about the fact that it's a female doing Bart's voice. :) One of the great things about The Simpsons (and an example for the news media to try to emulate) is the cartoon's actual-fairness to the Large-L Libertarian Party, as well as to various small-l libertarian ideas. BTW, people in the USA vastly-underestimate the power of The Simpsons for long-term political good worldwide, IMO, as well as better understanding of the USA by foreigners. If you get beyond the (this is gonna piss some people off, but I'll say it anyway) intellectually-shallow & humor-impaired critiques of people like Bill Bennett and just watch each episode, in amongst the jokes about Flanders (which are probably the bee under Bennett's bonnet!) you'll find that most Simpsons-episodes are actually morality-plays, where "good" wins out in the end. Please think about what I just said the next time you watch an episode, and see if you see it, too.

February 16, 2007 - 06:51 ET by sarcasmoOh, I suspect the French and other cultures currently being overrun by radical Islam might benefit the most from it. Sadly, they seem to be neutering it for Islamic political correctness and removing references to beer & bacon, but hopefully the internet will solve that information-flow problem. The idea of Homer minus beer -- hell, minus Moe's Tavern -- is almost unthinkable, and Homer's alcohol-excesses (as well as entire-character Barney) are an essential part of the morality play stuff I'm harping-on here.

February 16, 2007 - 05:53 ET by Jack BauerIt is an oddly skewed piece by someone who doesn't seem to know much about blogs, written for people who know even less.
You can't help but pick up his quaint astonishment that a conservative woman with kids shouldn't be bothering her pretty little head when she could be in the home tiied to the bed and/or kitchen.
But at least he actually talked to Ms. Malkin. Though someone should point out to Howard that she's...
#1. More famous than him.
#2. Is read and watched by more people than him.
Maybe she should be interviewing Howard Kurtz for her media outlets.
But the most idiotic idea in Kurtz's article was this.
Andrew Sullivan, a conservative blogger who has turned on the Bush administration,
Do me a favor. Okay gay obsessed Andy may have once been a "conservative," (though even that is open to debate).
But he's as much as conservative now as that other former conservative turned lib***l: Arianna Huffington.

February 16, 2007 - 11:02 ET by PunditFighti would say that Michelle Malkin is one of the more tenacious pundits out there, definitelty the most out of the women (left and right). I say this because she is very vigorous and diligent with her blog and video site. She has a built in base and because she aggressively attacks/calls into question those in the media etc... she has more sway than lets say Ann Coulter who is not known for her 'investigative journalism'.
Thats of course not to say that she's always right on the matters she brings up, but speaks more to her influence.
