This Sunday at 10pm Eastern, Fox News Channel is going to show a pilot episode of a news satire show it's commissioned from "24" executive producer Joel Surnow.
Here at NB and MRC, we often rightly complain at the media's leftward slant. This slant exists largely because the news and entertainment media shun and blacklist people with known conservative and libertarian politics, however, it's also a question of the right's interest in media.
If you're sick of every comedy show being run by left-wingers like Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, and David Letterman, join me in watching the "Half-Hour News Hour" this Sunday and tell everyone you know who might like it to tune in as well.
For a sample of the show and its format, click on over to this YouTube excerpt. There's also another promo where the show's producers discuss who might be offended at it. Click past the fold to watch the first spot right from this entry.

February 15, 2007 - 02:20 ET by sarcasmoTrue, they haven't aired an entire show yet, and while my hope is with the new show, my verdict so-far is with Bal. It's just not all-that-funny. February 15, 2007 - 03:08 ET by sarcasmoI hope so. The Daily Show, for example, is at its best when covering issues regular media don't cover, like voting machine "security," but the Fox offering has a ways to go before it gets to that level. From the brief clip, I'd make the following suggestion... '70s era Saturday Night Live themes around the failed drugwar & Democrats probably aren't gonna impress the libertarians in their audience, because we tend to be 100%-aware that the government's full of bipartisan-BS on that particular issue, so my advice is to try making FUNNY jokes about illegal drugs for a change -- even if it questions big government's tax and spend drugwar & gives Roger Ailes more heartburn than the unfunny Obama stuff!

By the way, you can wait all night long on many an SNL show and not view one funny skit. For that reason, I haven't watched it in years. The others of that genre suck equally.
On the other hand, Fox will turn the air waves into gold, again. This Sunday night show will be talked about at the "water cooler" long past Monday.

February 14, 2007 - 18:46 ET by P.J. GladnickThe biggest problem with the new FNC comedy show is that it is just NOT FUnnie. That hackeyed "BO" joke was old weeks ago. The writers of that show either need to go back to the creative drawing boards or be sacked.

February 14, 2007 - 18:53 ET by toolzI have to concur... not much originality in the format (doing exactly what daily show, weekend update does, et al, only shifted to the right- which I suppose is the point) or the jokes. If this gets sacked by critics- and it will- it most likely deserves to... it just isnt fresh. That being said, perhaps it will fit a niche and find sucess, who knows.

February 14, 2007 - 20:34 ET by GregE...I don't like the concept of it. Regardless if funny or not. I really like Fox News and personally I think it should remain news, news analysis, opinion debates, etc. A news outlet producing a show to offset shows that are not news related or that don't have anything to do with a "news" channel is not something I'd recommend FNC attempt. But, game on at this point. No stopping it now, unless it just stinks.

February 15, 2007 - 00:20 ET by MikeBThe show has some things going for it. It doesn't need to be side-splitting hilarious to be good. It is doing the same thing from the right that Stewart and Uberloon, et al, are doing from the left, and that's the point: it is satirizing those shows which the Koskids and Hufftard posters seem to like. So it doesn't have the best writing in the world. Neither does SNL, or Stewart. SNL has had some skits lampooning the marxist leftists like Hillary! that have been fairly good. But, it is an inconsistant thing.
I liked the clip with Prez Rush and VP Coulter. Mayhap Dennis Miller will make some appearances. Those will be good. Even if you thought the Rush/Ann skit was lame, just compare it to anything Bill Mahr has done. Light years above anything that showed on Politically Incorrect. Give the show a chance. And, remember the available alternatives.
