Bostal Legal and global warming

This show is like a train wreck, you just can't help but watch, but James Spader' character last evening is really getting on my nerves with his blabbering about global warming.

When shows start getting on a soap box they usually die. Remember Chicago Hope, that was a pretty good show at first and then they commit suicude by being kook fringe activists. ER did the same thing.

Wish these producers would forget the activist stuff and go about the business of entertaining.

Nuff said, sorry if this is rambling.

A good start in Atlanta following the killing of Kathryn Johnston. And in other tax and spend drugwar news, the US government grows weed that's only about 1/4 as potent as an average hippie's stash, despite a dedicated facility at UMiss that features M16 wielding guards (as if the hippies would actually want to steal that crap!).

Exactly my point. I don't have time to google it up, but the abysmally-low quality of big government's output absent the free market forces which apparently insure 4-times-higher quality even in an entirely-unfree marketplace has prompted at least one medical researcher to seek alternate supplies from foreign nations, creating an interesting issue for lawyers at the DEA. Which still shouldn't-exist. :)

My reading capability was not

My reading capability was not the issue, your position stated in the post was.

(As if the hippies would steal that crap) insinuates that there is no inherent desire for the hippies to break into a NON-SECURED facility as compared to one that is heavily guarded.

I disagree.  I believe that many of the "Hippies" would steal the quintessential ditch weed if given the oportunity with no downside.

Nope, your reading capabili

Nope, your reading capability still seems questionable to me in this case. Clearly, I was referring above not to hippies' relative propensity to steal from the government, but to big government's relative incompetence -- even given a very-well guarded facility -- in growing a plant which has earned the nickname "weed" for a very-good reason. Considering government drug warriors' obvious intimate familiarity with manure (see their "scientific" writings) the inability to competently grow this weed is especially surprising, so I stand by all my words, as usual.
JMR

You assess that the purpose o

You assess that the purpose of the experiment conducted by the Feds is to maximize THC rather than any other potential COIC.

You have no proof of this, therefore your logic is faulty.

My logic is hardly "faulty."

My logic is hardly "faulty." The government is rather, once again, incompetent. I find it amusing that conservatives -- so suspicious, and rightly-so, of political big government 'science' on climate -- can be so trusting of big government 'science' on the subject of illegal drugs. In this case, scientists have already looked to other sources due to political big government incompetence. Trying to make that look good (or even intentional) is laughable, and you're funny when you flail like this. The government pot is grown for the legal patients (so yes, THC, like it or not, with your tax dollars) under federal law -- there's only a few of them but they stubbornly-refuse to die despite some pretty severe illnesses, for some reason....
JMR

Your assessment is still off.

Your assessment is still off.

1.)  Perhaps the strain is designed to minimize unhealthy sideeffects such as Tar/ Nicotine/ Arsenic etc.

Since the bulk of THC provided to medical patients is via Marinol, it is immaterial to its strength per ounce.

Try again.

Nope, and you're still flai

Nope, and you're still flailing.

The goal of the UMiss farm -- despite the incompetence -- really-is production of THC, and higher THC levels in plant material would lead to LOWER doses of "tar." As for nicotine, cannabis has 0. Same with arsenic etc. As for the idea of ANY honest US government scientific research on cannabis strains, your speculation is even more laughable than your usual flails.

And just because "the bulk" of THC happens to be provided by something that mysteriously profits big pharma instead of small-time farmers does not in any way invalidate my point, which remains: the government is even more incompentent at this activity (growing a flappin' weed!) than they are at most things, despite your flailing attempted-defense. And that's goin' some.
JMR -- toe to toe, and winnin'-again! :)

You have still not proven tha

You have still not proven that the COIC is to maximize THC Content.

Please do so with referenced POA.

Nope, I won't, because it's

Nope, I won't, because it's been obvious since patients like Rosenfeld & Musicca got prescriptions involving THC-not-rope (like it or not, that's decades now!) after winning a federal case, go look it up. This isn't a fiber-hemp or research farm, it's a socialist farm that's poorly-run, period. Deal with it, I don't have time to remedially-educate someone who, for reasons beyond me, yammers-on about fantasies of nicotine in cannabis plants, but anyone even-halfway educated on this issue knows I'm right and knows you're flailing in your defense of big government here. Give it up, BD, you're not gonna win this one...

The Ever-'Present' Obama Bara

The Ever-'Present' Obama

Barack has a along track record of not taking a stand.

Finally and officially, Barack Obama is running for president. His symbolic announcement, in the Land of Lincoln, called for a new era in politics. Obama downplayed his thin federal experience while championing his record on the state and local level, and he talked about the need to change Washington, set priorities, and "make hard choices."

"What's stopped us is the failure of leadership, the smallness of our politics--the ease with which we're distracted by the petty and trivial, our chronic avoidance of tough decisions," Obama said in his announcement speech. But a closer look at the presidential candidate's record in the Illinois Legislature reveals something seemingly contradictory: a number of occasions when Obama avoided making hard choices.

While some conservatives and Republicans surely will harp on what they call his "liberal record," highlighting applicable votes to support their case, it's Obama's history of voting "present" in Springfield--even on some of the most controversial and politically explosive issues of the day--that raises questions that he will need to answer. Voting "present" is one of three options in the Illinois Legislature (along with "yes" and "no"), but it's almost never an option for the occupant of the Oval Office.

BORDER UPDATE - News you can

BORDER UPDATE - News you can use about the war on illegal immigration:

Its been rather slow newswise on the border lately.  But here's one that caught my eye...

Banks target illegals, offer special accounts and transfer services to help them funnel those billions back home.

hi, running beer

Yeah; well I'm ready for the onslaught of denunciations coming later today, all in one voice, how Americans can't accept this trend any longer. There won't be any disagreement if 90 posters contribute.

This is called a consensus of opinion. I'm part of the disgruntled Right who merely shakes his head at the futility of our illegal alien problem. It isn't going away.

Instead of usefully contemplating THAT, there'll be no change in attitudes, no practical answers, nothing except empty grumbling. Business as usual.

I made these predictions months ago-- the mere fact that more than half our citizenry is NOT part of this consensus. Conservative fence-builders don't have enough clout to affect the status quo. Unless LAWS come from Congress, strictly prohibiting any employment of illegal aliens; and also making it a real crime to crash the border; punishable by hard time in prison-- Nothing can really be done.

No amount of protesting is going to bring this about, I'm afraid. We haven't got enough numbers to make Congress act.

Worst aspect of this quandary is: Every rise in the volume of protesting and furious rhetoric -- is seen on the left by hispanics and Mexican Americans as right wing Mexico-hatred if not racism. We deliberately paint a racist picture of ourselves in the eyes of millions of voters. That means we can kiss goodbye the days when our GOP was a winner on Super Tuesday. Hate rhetoric is counter-productive.

Just my opinion; --Every time one of our candidates publicly campaigns on this hatred plank being pushed lately, he/she'll be driving another nail in the GOP's coffin. (Damn you, OK, Tumbler, says my opponent;)

Who has the real solution? How to get the word out without hurting the feelings of simple folks outside the Republican Right? My answer is, George W Bush was correct. Don't raise bloody hell. Try to be a uniter, not a divider. His plan was laughed at, called an amnesty, etc., Well-- it was better than anyone else's plan. November 2006 proved that to me. It's up to the Leadership of our party. Not a Tancredo. Somebody with brains.

A Waste Is a Terrible Thing t

A Waste Is a Terrible Thing to Mind

On Sunday Sen. Barack Obama, speaking at Iowa State University, made this jaw-dropping statement:

We ended up launching a war that should have never been authorized, and should have never been waged, and to which we now have spent $400 billion, and have seen over 3,000 lives of the bravest young Americans wasted.

Wasted! Hard to believe anyone would say such a thing, but there it is on video.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports Obama quickly fired up the nuance machine:

Obama, in an interview with the Des Moines Register right afterward, told the paper, ''I was actually upset with myself when I said that, because I never use that term,'' he said. ''Their sacrifices are never wasted. . . . What I meant to say was those sacrifices have not been honored by the same attention to strategy, diplomacy and honesty on the part of civilian leadership that would give them a clear mission."

Aha, so this is what he meant to say:

We ended up launching a war that should have never been authorized, and should have never been waged, and to which we now have spent $400 billion, and have seen over 3,000 lives of the bravest young Americans that have not been honored by the same attention to strategy, diplomacy and honesty on the part of civilian leadership that would give them a clear mission.

But instead of those last 27 words (which don't entirely make sense--e.g., "the same attention" as what?), what came out of his mouth was "wasted." Just a wee slip of the tongue!

The Sun-Times notes that Obama is sorry you took what he said the wrong way, which is to say, the way he actually said it:

By Monday, reporters covering Obama making his first visit as a presidential candidate in New Hampshire, asked Obama, campaigning in a Nashua home, if military families deserved an apology.

"Well as I said, it is not at all what I intended to say, and I would absolutely apologize if any of them felt that in some ways it had diminished the enormous courage and sacrifice that they'd shown. You know, and if you look at all the other speeches that I've made, that is always the starting point in my view of this war.''

It's almost enough to make you doubt Joe Biden's oratorical standards.

Nowhere to Run....Nowhere To Hide.....

We ended up launching a war that should have never been authorized, and
should have never been waged, and to which we now have spent $400

That is exactly what Obama meant, exactly what he believes, but when challenged, he backs away from his core beliefs. What a jelly spined empty suit.

Do we want socialized medicin

Do we want socialized medicine?

Problems with our health care system are leading some to fall prey to proposals calling for a nationalized single-payer health care system like Canada's or Britain's. There are a few things that we might take into consideration before falling for these proposals.

London's Observer (3/3/02) carried a story saying that an "unpublished report shows some patients are now having to wait more than eight months for treatment, during which time many of their cancers become incurable." Another story said, "According to a World Health Organisation report to be published later this year, around 10,000 British people die unnecessarily from cancer each year -- three times as many as are killed on our roads."

The Observer (12/16/01) also reported, "A recent academic study showed National Health Service delays in bowel cancer treatment were so great that, in one in five cases, cancer which was curable at the time of diagnosis had become incurable by the time of treatment."

The story is no better in Canada's national health care system. The Vancouver, British Columbia-based Fraser Institute has a yearly publication titled, "Waiting Your Turn." Its 2006 edition gives waiting times, by treatments, from a person's referral by a general practitioner to treatment by a specialist. The shortest waiting time was for oncology (4.9 weeks). The longest waiting time was for orthopedic surgery (40.3 weeks), followed by plastic surgery (35.4 weeks) and neurosurgery (31.7 weeks).

Canadians face significant waiting times for various diagnostics such as computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound scans. The median wait for a CT scan across Canada was 4.3 weeks, but in Prince Edward Island, it's 9 weeks. A Canadian's median wait for an MRI was 10.3 weeks, but in Newfoundland, patients waited 28 weeks. Finally, the median wait for an ultrasound was 3.8 weeks across Canada, but in Manitoba and Prince Edward Island it was 8 weeks.

Despite the long waiting times Canadians suffer, sometimes resulting in death, under federal law, private clinics are not legally allowed to provide services covered by the Canada Health Act. Regardless of this prohibition, a few black-market clinics service patients who are willing to break the law to get treatment. In British Columbia, for example, Bill 82 provides that a physician can be fined up to $20,000 for accepting fees for surgery. According to a Canada News article, "Shortage of Doctors and Nurses Could Hurt Medicare Reforms" (3/5/03), about 10,000 doctors left Canada during the 1990s.

Some of our politicians hold up the Canadian and British nationalized health care systems as models for us. You can bet that should we ever have such a system, they would exempt themselves from what the rest of us would have to endure.

There's a cure for our health care problems. That cure is not to demand more government but less government. I challenge anyone to identify a problem with health care in America that is not caused or aggravated by federal, state and local governments. And, I challenge anyone to show me people dying on the streets because they don't have health insurance.

4.)  Would that it wasn't SO OBVIOUS that Dems and Repubs were Speaking, I would like to have not noticed, and concluded "Americans" were debating...but it wasn't like that at all.

Russert on the hot seat

Tim Russert has got some explaining to do. At the close of the Libby Trial on Tuesday, the defense indicated it wanted to recall Russert to the stand to impeach a statement of his. The life of a TV talking head tends to leave a lot of evidence of what one knows and doesn't know.

Russert had claimed that he didn't know that the special accommodations worked out by NBC lawyers and the prosecutor to allow him to give his deposition with his lawyers present and not before the grand jury was a special deal, and that he did not know that witnesses before a grand jury were not allowed to have counsel present.

I think this remark he made on the August 8, 1998 CNN Larry King Live show, will certainly be one of the impeaching statements the defense offers up:

RUSSERT: It's been suggested by no less than the former governor of New York the other night, that now that the president has decided that he's going to testify before the grand jury, why do it in the Oval Office and why insist that his lawyer be there.?
Go into the grand jury without a lawyer, like every other American citizen, go  ahead, ask me any question you want and I'll give you an honest answer.

BTW, in addition to that news this AM, Howard had a GREAT debate between Ted Nugent and Sam Simon over hunting which could never have taken place on commercial-filled radio. Didn't one of the big-wigs from FHM get fired because he asututely pointed that out recently? I am sure she will be taken care of financially by whatever pre-nup they sign. $25 mil? $50 mil?

Also, Beth is what, 35? She is just about to crest that peak, and it's all downhill from there... They plan on being engaged for "a few years"? What, when he turns 60? After watching the "60 Minutes" interview a few years ago she left me with that "this chick is insane" vibe. The eyes are crazy, man. I like Stern. I think Beth is overrated. This pains me to say that because she is a hometown girl. Stern just disappoints me because of the months and months and months of constant "I'm never getting married again" mantra I heard after his last break-up in the late 1990's. That's why I called him a "pud".

Finally, I think one of the reasons why you never hear about Howard's kids is because NOBODY TALKS ABOUT HOWARD STERN.

A.- It is not permissible if it is in contravention of the regulations in force in those departments..

Since the regulations allow it, it is not in contravention so it should be okay. Someone should make Ellison aware of this.

fc,I caught this story on N

fc,

I caught this story on Newsmax during lunch. At first, I thought it a joke. This Ellison guy, a freshman congressman, sure isn't doing much to win friends and influence people by pulling such a childish little stunt.

If I were Tancredo, I would return the favor by dialing up Homeland Security and telling them the are chants of "Allahu-Akbar! Death to America! Death to Bush!" coming from Ellison's office-just for laughs. :-^)

Thats pretty funny Dave. What

Thats pretty funny Dave.

What really got me about it was that it is OK for Tancredo to smoke in his office. the article said he even uses 3 air cleaners to help cover the smoke. Yet, Ellisions office still called the police, who did nothing. Lets just hope Ellison is just as bad at trying to get laws approved.

Don't worry, fc, if that is

Don't worry, fc, if that is any indication of how he plans to treat his fellow congressman, regardless of which party they are in, his chances of getting any of his no-doubt screwy ideas through will be severely diminished. Congress has its share of kooks, but you still cannot be dissin' (sorry) your fellow congressmen in that way and be taken seriously. Just ask former Rep. Cynthia Jihad McKinney.

I just love Liberals. They are so tolerant.

I just love Liberals.  They are so tolerant.

Even if the rule doesn't exist, they make them up on the spot and expect others to roll over and die when accosted.

I'd open all my doors, shut off my air cleaners and let the good times roll.

Funny Congress isn't subject to any of the silly laws they pass, huh?

Don't we love the liberals....the democratIC party, the stick your nose in everybody's  business type that know what good for you better than you do type's....

...but...I do have to say, out here in the real world we have to live with this everyday in real life, I blame the law-makers, the do as I say, but not as we do...well, it has come back to them to maybe remind them of our every-day frustrations.

Btw..of course I am not talkin' specifically about Tancredo, who I love, I mean all politicians as a whole.

Thanks for the link....Minnesota is going to put in Al Franken next, we think this muslin leftist is bad...just wait....

Franken vs Colemen should be

Franken vs Colemen should be good for laughs. What was Ellisions point? Smoking in the office is not against any rules.

Just my opinion.

Or...trying to get smoking banned from the building completely...like a lot of Federal and other offices ....and other buildings nation-wide.

BT - those anti smoking laws

BT - those anti smoking laws are for us little people. Not the big members of congress.

Ellision just proved he is a jerk.

Gotta go for now. L8tr

he is true to the stereotype

After all the years going back to the 1960's, the most stereotypical behavior in America is a Black Muslim's delusions about his self-importance. Yet the only one who ever pulled off this overbearing pretense was Malcolm X. He had real serenity underneath the corrosive hatred.

This little mobster has to preen someway, so he picked going militant against a whiff of Tiparillo he smells close by. Talk about a punk from Nowheresville.

He should invite Obama over

He should invite Obama over for a smoke-in.

Just want to comment on three

Just want to comment on three different topics before I have to get for awhile...

One...the speeches on the House floor about the resolution to surge or not to surge has been maddening disgraceful beautiful, precious, priceless....I hope the troops know they have so many people behind and fighting for them and this is a forced vote by a bunch of leftists.... a planned slow attempt to get us to with-draw and wave the white flag at all cost, this is going to be incremental...this is what the enemy within has planned... Heather Wilson was magnificent today, so was Hunter and Renzi, others as well...it was disgraceful to me to listen to the eight repub's that I did hear on the floor with Walter Jones leading the way....I had to quit watching, same as yesterday....I get so mad.

Hillary Clinton was a bit*h today
