No Whiff of Fascism: NBC Affiliate Leaves Out anti-iPod NY Politician's Party

Any time a Republican does something stupid or advocates a dumb idea, the media invariably point out that the politician in question happens to be a Republican.

When it's a Democrat doing or saying something stupid, however, all bets are off as to whether or not they'll be outed as a Democrat (since such information is now immaterial in the minds of liberal reporters). Such is the case in this NBC affiliate story currently being highlighted on the Drudge Report:

A state senator from Brooklyn said on Tuesday he plans to introduce legislation that would ban people from using an MP3 player, cell phone, Blackberry or any other electronic device while crossing the street in either New York City or Buffalo.

NewsChannel 4 reported that Sen. Carl Kruger is proposing the ban in response to two recent pedestrian deaths in his district, including a 23-year-old man who was struck and killed last month while listening to his iPod on Avenue T and East 71st Street In Bergen Beach.

"While people are tuning into their iPods and cell phones, they're tuning out the world around them," Kruger said. The proposed law would make talking on cell phones while crossing the street a comparable offense to jaywalking.

Carl Kruger is a Democrat as anyone can see by looking at his entry in the New York State Senate Democrats web site. (H/t: pow)

So do we need a law for every

So do we need a law for every situation where you may do something potentially stupid because you are not paying attention?

If that is the case I propose a new law banning democrats from ballots nationwide. That is the only way we can prevent our fellow man from making a tragic mistake and actually voting for these facists.

Incrementalism shown by the continued legislation of petty laws to socially engineer human behavior of American citizens is the most dangerous tool used by Liberal Democrats today.

I love how liberals are alway

I love how liberals are always trying to protect us from ourselves.  Stupid people like those who refuse to look both ways before crossing the street give the liberals the excuse they need to put big government more in control of our lives.  They thrive on "taking care" of everyone in their own warped way.  Maybe we should all just live in cages where the liberals can keep us safe from the big bad world.  They constantly accuse the Bush administration of trying to be like Big Brother, but the actions of the liberals speak volumes about their need to be Big Brother.

They can use streetlight cameras for the fining process

They can use streetlight cameras for the fining process. Maybe they can be magnanimous about it, and only fine the poor crippled slob laying the hospital bed with a now embedded earbud.

I'm sure spending millions of dollars on a study has already occurred. Just check lib U,a, b, and c of the state. Now it's time to implement. I suggest purple signs above the crosswalk pushbutton, that declare " Crossing while using electronic devices is prohibited by law. Mandatory $375 dollar fine and 14 months. "

"While people are tuning

"While people are tuning into their iPods and cell phones, they're tuning out the world around them," Kruger said." Clearly before anyone attempts crossing a street they should have to attend government mandated 'awareness' clinics or perhaps have a radio frequency that could be intercepted by any electronic device like an mp3 player built in that would receive a 'Kruger warning' when entering a crosswalk area - it could be a generic warning like "Hey you, pay attention dumbass" ...

What we need are 'safe-cross'

What we need are 'safe-cross' zones - some kind of structure that would perhaps go over the road, or maybe even a system of warning lights - how about red-yellow-green that would warn drivers to yeild to oncoming traffic or maybe even a warning system for pedestrians, maybe something like 'walk-don't walk'.

If none of those work I think the only logical solution is to ban gasoline powered transportation from any city populated by more than one person.

I will volunteer to set up an exploratory committee study this problem and produce a cause and effect document within five years for less than one billion dollars, assuming that lunch is catered and the chairs are the ergonomically correct.

In keeping with your spirit truth, ban killing pedestrians.

In keeping with your spirit truth, ban killing pedestrians.

Oops, they already did that.

Well, pass another law, it'll work, huh?

Ok I got it - how about we paint special lines on the road so people crossing the road will know that they should only walk in this area, and drivers will know to look out for people who may or may not be using  an electronic device who might be crossing there. Provided all parties have observed the correct warning light...

Concealed carry, that's the ticket.

Concealed carry, that's the ticket.

Then the crazy drivers will have some more respect.

No no no truth. dont you realize that the cars are the executioners and just meeting out justice to law breakers? You want to jam the courts with people commiting illegal acts when it is much more coinvent and expedient to let the cars do their jobs?

iPod zombies

As a devout libertarian, I am completely opposed to a law of this kind, even though I have nearly run down a couple of iPod zombies in the last six months or so.

As I am a huge believer in natural selection, I view this as an excellent opportunity to clean up the gene pool. Passing a law such as this DimLib in New York is proposing would continue to allow the stupid among us to procreate with impunity, and that is not a good thing.

Why would a Democrat want such a law?  I mean, they are dead certain that the Theory of Evolution is not theory, but law.  So, by their own law, only the fittest survive.  If some fool is too stupid to pay attention to his/her surroundings in a dangerous environment, then that fool had proven that they are unfit for survival, and needs to be weeded out...preferably before they breed and spread their stupidity gene.  Of course, Democrats just love passing laws to circumvent their Law of Evolution, don't they?

Sarc, partisan political id i

Sarc, partisan political id is in all such stories if you know the code.  If it is a story about scandal or stupidity, Republicans are identified with an (R) beside their name, while Democratics are identified by no party affiliation.  If the story is about a common sense decision or law, no party affiliation is ever needed, because the LibMedia will not run such a story about a Republican.
