In a flagrant instance of intellectual dishonesty, Media Matters, which might be considered the liberal alter ego of NB, edited Chris Matthews' "fascist" slur of Rudy Giuliani out of its account of yesterday's Hardball.
As I noted here, on yesterday's show, Matthews, discussing Rudy with former congresswoman Susan Molinari, had this exchange:
Matthews: "He got the pee smell out of the phone booths in New York.
Even phone booths that aren't booths, they're just a place to make a
phone call, had that smell about them before. I think I've been to New
York enough times -- he did clean up that atmosphere in New York."
Molinari: "You bet he did. He stopped making excuses for people. . . "
Matthews, interrupting: "Was he a little bit of a fascist?"

But in Media Matters' account of the exchange, the "fascist" comment conveniently disappears. Here's how Media Matters plays it:
MATTHEWS: Well, he got the pee smell out of the phone booths up there. Even phone booths in New York that aren't booths, they're just a place to make a phone call, had that smell around them before -- I think -- having gone to New York enough times, he did clean up that atmosphere in New York.
[...]
MATTHEWS: Well, I'll tell you, three things going for him. He acts and talks like a president.
Note that telling "[...]"
The Media Matters item also contains a video clip of the exchange. It, too, manages to omit the f-word. How can Media Matters possibly defend its attempted deception?

February 6, 2007 - 22:38 ET by Tim GrahamMark, Media Matters arrived on the scene and was described right out of its eggshell in a promotional New York Times article as resembling the Media Research Center. A few months later, they decided the comparison was horrifying. In reality, the modes of operation are quite a bit different. We are hunting for bias in an "objective" media. They are hunting for conservative "misinformation" anywhere, including opinion outlets like talk radio, but often, they're complaining that the liberal arguments in news stories aren't fierce enough.
I would agree that it's wrong to omit completely an inconvenient truth that dilutes your argument. We hope at MRC to include qualifying comments or facts that make a story more balanced, even if we might not always please liberal critics.

February 7, 2007 - 09:30 ET by joe3Apparently, Prissy Chrissy lost it on "Imus" this morning when, after a 180(from this incident above) on Rudy, praising him for being a "city boy", Matthews spewed his contempt for Southerners in general and George Bush and his" f-ing ranch" in particular. Could the drooling be an indication of a imminent, on air, total meltdown? We can only hope!

Has anyone at NB complained to Wikipedia about the disparity in the MRC description vs the MM one? I mentioned this before and noticed that it has changed a little but it's still very bias. They don't have Newsbusters on there at all anymore and instead link to the NB site and their criticisms section at least identifies that the people making the criticisms are left wing now, but MM has no controversy or criticism section. The MM one reads like a commercial for MM.
