You thought there was a political divide concerning the war, taxes, and abortion? Well, a newly released National Journal poll of members of Congress indicated just as strong a diametric view of whether anthropogenic global warming is real or not.
Called a “Congressional Insiders Poll,” the study asked 10 Senate Democrats, 48 House Democrats, 10 Senate Republicans, and 45 House Republicans: “Do you think it’s been proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the Earth is warming because of man-made problems?”
The results:
- 95 percent of Democrats said “Yes”
- 2 percent of Democrats said “No”
- 84 percent of Republicans said “No”
- 13 percent of Republicans said “Yes”
I guess this means that Republican members of Congress don't watch as much must-see TV as their seemingly more gullible brethren on the opposite side of the aisle.
Also fascinating was how all the attention on this issue, including the release of Al Gore’s schlockumentary “An Inconvenient Truth,” has actually reduced the number of Republicans that believe this junk science.
The last time this poll was performed, 23 percent of Republicans said “Yes.”
For those interested, the following is a list of participants:
Democratic Congressional Insiders Sens. Sherrod Brown, Ben Cardin, Thomas Carper, Christopher Dodd, Edward Kennedy, Frank Lautenberg, Barbara Mikulski, Mark Pryor, Ken Salazar, Jon Tester; Reps. Tom Allen, Robert Andrews, Michael Arcuri, Tammy Baldwin, Melissa Bean, Xavier Becerra, Howard Berman, Marion Berry, Rick Boucher, Michael Capuano, Christopher Carney, James Clyburn, Jim Cooper, Joseph Crowley, Elijah Cummings, Artur Davis, Diana DeGette, Rosa DeLauro, Eliot Engel, Anna Eshoo, Sam Farr, Chaka Fattah, Bob Filner, Kirsten Gillibrand, Alcee Hastings, Mike Honda, Steve Israel, Jim Langevin, John Lewis, Zoe Lofgren, Nita Lowey, Ed Markey, Jim McDermott, Jim McGovern, Jim Moran, David Price, Silvestre Reyes, Jan Schakowsky, Jose Serrano, Adam Smith, John Spratt, Pete Stark, John Tanner, Ellen Tauscher, Bennie Thompson, Chris Van Hollen, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Henry Waxman.

Jacques Chirac said it best "[Kyoto accords are] the first component of an authentic global governance" Global warming is nothing more than a tool for socialism. A lot of Democrates love big brother and have no problem using fear to give their philosophy merit. They've used fear of racism, poverty, and biogtry and now have jumped head first into Global Warming (oops, sorry... 'Climate Change')
Also, has anyone found a link to the new U.N. Climate Report? I know that the summary (written by political hacks and not scientists) is all the media is focusing on, but I can't find the text anywhere. Thanks

Of course, only Liberals would have the ability to be in this Priesthood, and pesky things like representation or elections could be eliminated out of hand!

February 6, 2007 - 17:01 ET by HumanEventsNo surprise whatsoever that the vast majority of DemocRATS buy this hot air. Slight pleasant surprise that as high as 84% of Republicans don't, considering it seeming like George W Bush recently has been "warming" up to the idea.
The key thing will be these Republicans having the courage to vote according to their conviction (although at a rate of 95-84% in this poll, the Dems in Congress being the slight majority would probably have enough votes to pass their big-government measures).
And dscott, I think Algore IS that stupid. He asked that tour guide at Monticello, "Who are these people?" when he saw the busts of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin.. He said a leopard doesn't change its stripes. No, we are talking about a man who is as dumb as they come!
Global Warming is the essence
February 6, 2007 - 17:09 ET by Conservative VoiceGlobal Warming is the essence of liberalism. You have your unnecessary guilt. You have your need for Government to control private property to "solve it". But more than that it is their religion, which is why you can't debate them. You can't prove a faith...and they have their faith in liberalism and using fear to gain power over the people. You can certainly explain scientific facts, but they won't listen to facts that challenges their faith. So it is no surprise that these numbers came up the way they did. There are liberals in both parties, the Democrats just have a larger majority of them. Its funny, today's man looks at how "foolish" ancient man was worshiping idols...and yet when you belong to the Chruch of Liberals, you are doing just that.

February 6, 2007 - 17:24 ET by NetizenCainYou make some excellent points. Guilt is a driving factor behind many liberal movements. We are supposed to feel guilty for living in a country where you can succeed. You are supposed to feel guilty for owning a nice car, going on vacation, eating well, etc.
I work with an Italian gentleman and he fully believes in CC... it's been beaten into his head by his media and government (Italy and EU) to the point that anything that goes against this alarmism is nothing more than propaganda and should be discounted. It's almost an ostritch/head/sand scenario. Trying to discuss CC is like talking faith. There's no point in trying to win.

(On top of all this, I did not know what the word troll meant, I had to learn it here from RJ, bass, Ct, acumen and others who helped me learn some of the ropes, heck, I am still learning!) I got along fine with most, she just had an agenda I guess, because I dare criticize the President a little.
