Limbaugh Nominated For Nobel Peace Prize

I am posting this as the mainstream media hasn't picked it up.

While not being able to keep up with all of his many accomplishments over the years, I do speak from personal experience when I say Rush Limbaugh's 1992 Best Seller The Way Things Ought To Be may have done more to carry discussion of conservative ideas and the concept of political freedom into elements of American popular culture where it was never thought much about before.

So it's good to see Mr. Limbaugh finally nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize:

LEESBURG, Va., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Landmark Legal Foundation today nominated nationally syndicated radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

Limbaugh, whose daily radio show is heard by more than 20 million
people on more than 600 radio stations in the United States and around the
world, was nominated for the prestigious award for his "nearly two decades
of tireless efforts to promote liberty, equality and opportunity for all
humankind, regardless of race, creed, economic stratum or national origin.
These are the only real cornerstones of just and lasting peace throughout
the world," said Landmark President Mark R. Levin.

Unfortunately, this might not bode well for his career. In 1988 the Nobel Peace Prize went to the United Nations Peace Keepers, who went on to distinguish themselves as sex traffickers and under-aged skin traders of world renown.

As if those shoes aren't hard enough to fill, there's always the 1994 winner, terrorist Yasser Arafat - one of the few individuals to often meet privately with then President Bill Clinton without fear of staining his dress.

And who could forget 2001 winner Kofi Annan, or 2002's Jimmy Carter, both somehow allegedly long on being noble, questionable on anti-semitism, and extremely short on actually bringing peace to anywhere, certainly not Rwanda or Iran and the Middle-East, respectively.

With some thought, perhaps the real question is, were the honorable Mr. Limbaugh to ultimately win the prize, is it one he should even accept?

Though were he to put it on E-Bay, I suppose a fellow named Clinton could be counted on to run up the bids.

Oh, some guy named Al was nominated as well. Is he a plumber, or something?

Bal, was Arafat a "logical" choice for the peace prize?  How is AlGore a "logical" choice?  Or, for that matter, Carter?  As far as I can see, the only reason Carter got one is because he bad-mouthed Bush every chance he got.  Yes, he worked with Habitat for Humanity, but he was doing that for years before he was nominated.  If he was such an advocate for world peace, why didn't he get one a long time ago?

I wonder if the stuck up Nobel Peace Prize winners sing this song when they get together.  They are probably all too stuck up to appreciate the Doors.  Do you ever hear any of the Nobel Peace Prize winners denouncing the violence from Al Quida, or from left wing Robert Mugabe, or the fact that left wing Marxist Mengistu Mariam was just found guilty of genocide against the people of Ethiopia during his reign?  I have to admit I haven't heard any of the Nobel Peace Prize recepients talk about any of that.  They all seem to talk about how much they dislike President Bush, or US policies.  I would think a recepient would be concerned about entire worldwide peace.  How about the fact Burma has kids fighting for the government against rebels, or Communist Laos has atrocities against the Hmongs?  They just seem to talk about "Free Tibet", but don't seem to talk about how bad Chinese Communism is, it seems that "Free Tibet" is a trendy term to use.

A letter to Ann Landers upon hearing that Al Bore is a nominee for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize-

Dear Ann:

I have a problem.  I have two brothers.  One brother is a Nobel Peace Prize Nominee , the other was put to death in the electric chair for murder. My mother died from insanity when I was three years old.  My sisters are prostitutes, and my father sells narcotics to high school students.  Recently, I met a girl who was just released from reformatory where she served time for smothering her illegitmate child to death, and I want to marry her.

My problem is - if I marry this girl, should I tell her about my brother that is the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Nominee?

Nobel Peace prize for Phil Hendrie

I have to admit I don't listen to Rush, so I don't know much about his show or books, but as far as a Nobel Peace Prize radio host, I would have to nominate Phil Hendrie.  The local station hasn't broadcast his show for a long time, and he is no longer on the air, but he was so funny I could barely drive my car because I would be crying laughing.  He actually leans left in some of his politics, but isn't stuck up like Al Gore.  So my vote goes for funny and talented Phil Hendrie over stuck up non funny Al Gore.

Rush advances Individual libe

Rush advances Individual liberty = Individual responsibilty. Even when not politically correct. No one on the left advances this equation, and no politician on the right does if politically incorrect (Political correctness is another form of lying, as it is just avoiding the truth due to sensitivities invented by the left) This equation is essential to a free society. Not the only principle necessary to a free society, but without it, you have no freedom. For this, Rush may be the most important person of our generation who has stemmed the encroachment on freedom, peace and liberty

I'm curious: where was Rush's

I'm curious: where was Rush's individual responsibility when busted for doctor shopping for his narcotic pain pills. Rather than taking responsibility for his illegal, and certainly immoral, behavior, Rush dummied up and hid behind his lawyers.

curious - he took individual responsibility by admitting he had a problem and going into rehab. Are you saying that you advocate putting all people who take illegal drugs or illegal amounts of legal drugs in jail?

Law enforcement ususally likes to go after dealers and pushers not users unless they are harming someone else like in the case of DUI's. Boy you are more conservative than most of us here. Most athletes and Hollywood stars would be in jail and probably 1/2 of all high school and college age people and a good portion of the normal adult population.

DB, I was not aware that he went into rehab, that would mitigate my ire at his hypocrisy, at least somewhat. It still offends me that the rich can hire good lawyers who can get them into rehab, rather than jail. And if I recall, it was Rush who used to say the same thing.

curious - I'm glad you can

curious - I'm glad you can at least cut him some slack for going into rehab. It's a good thing he had money because it was a political prosecution. The D.A. in Florida had not gone after anyone else for this charge whether they were rich, poor or middle class. That is the kind of hypocrisy that should really alarm you.

Regardless of the relative

Regardless of the relative merits of Limbaugh's case, D.A.s in FL using the same laws have no difficulty prosecuting an obvious pain patient, which is at least as alarming as any hypocrite, left or right.
JMR

Rush Limbaugh

Yeah, I loved the liberal hypocrisy on this one. He hadn't said anything about drug abuse on the air for years before his bust. They published one that was at least 3-5 years old when he was busted. He was apparently aware of the hypocrisy of making an issue of it.

In his defense, he became addicted to painkillers that were prescribed to him, not from recreational use.

Ignorance is bliss. It's easier to repeat a mindless slogan than to do some actual research.

You libs and your being offended...

You libs and your d@mned constantly being offended. Grow up already. Even the best grown-ups aren't perfect. I realize fairytales are what you libs prefer but it doesn't work in the real world.

It is amazing how often you libs and super-libs cry "I am offended" so easily and so often each time your fragile senses get the slightest hint of what you subjectively find offensive. It reminds me of the word "nigger" that is sorrounded with so much controversy. You know why it is so offensive, because it is received that way. It isn't the user of the word that determines its effect, it is the recepient, the target and just as most users predict the target reacts like as if his or her feelings haven't grown beyond the tantrums of a 5 year old that can't take name calling.

And this same philosophy spills over into every facet of the lives of you libs and super-libs, always waiting for the next chance to yell for the "social police" and claim offense. Have you ever given more than a cursory and hysterical thought to your self-indulgent whinings to realize offense at such things only empowers the ones you oppose and makes you weak and dependent on THEM for satisfaction and survival.

If you claim to be a conservative, please don't disgrace yourself and conservatism by thinking and arguing like a liberal. Go Rudy!
