The ABC and CBS evening newscasts on Wednesday night carried full stories on the racially-tinged remarks by Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, but only NBC’s David Gregory reminded viewers of how Biden “has made indelicate remarks before.” In an interview with the New York Observer published Wednesday, Biden said of competing candidate Barack Obama: “You got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.”
In his piece, which led the NBC Nightly News, Gregory recalled: “Biden, who admits he has a tendency to bloviate, has made indelicate remarks before. Last year speaking about Indian-Americans:” Viewers saw video from C-SPAN, of Biden in a crowd, dated June 17, 2006: “You cannot go to a 7/11 or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent.” Gregory then noted: “Biden's first presidential run twenty years ago was undone after evidence emerged that he plagiarized a speech from a British politician, Neil Kinnock.”
Over on ABC’s World News, Jake Tapper uniquely played a soundbite from the right critical of Biden, an audio clip of Rush Limbaugh from his radio show: “See folks, this is the problem for the libs. Once they get off script they expose their idiocy, they expose their prejudice.”
Gloria Borger handled the CBS Evening News report.

January 31, 2007 - 22:52 ET by Conservative in the ArtsI don't see how this is a bad statement:
Biden said of competing candidate Barack Obama: “You got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.”
"Articulate" complement in this setting, meaning "well spoken, smooth talker"
"bright": well it's hard for a Dem to call another Dem stupid!
"Clean": as compared to he's been bought by daily Kos members?
"Nice looking guy": oh, there's the insult....sorry I didn't see it earlier.
Obama corrected him with the "first" part listing a whole bunch of left wackos like JJ that could never win. But I think they are looking for something that is not there. Biden clearly meant "first" as in the first real contender that could win, not all the other loosers like Jesse or Al.

January 31, 2007 - 23:24 ET by j17ghsI remember Trent Lott getting cut adrift by Bush after the Thurmond 100th birthday remark. Bush once again defended and encouraged Democrats by attacking a fellow Republican. Bush could have instead educated the public about the racist Democrats who enslaved, persecuted, and killed more blacks than any single group in U.S. history. We should disband the DNC, sell its assets and give the proceeds to African Americans.

Time to turn the artillery somewhere where it will be more effective. We only have so much time in one day.

"Clean & Sober"
February 1, 2007 - 02:09 ET by mastersofdeceit"Clean & Sober" That's how I always interpret it when someone says someone else is "clean". But that's just me. I'm sure Obama is clean and has renounced his Cocaine Blues (nod to J Cash) He will probably not get caught buying coke like LA City Councilman Mike Hernandez or have a Marion Barry "Bitch set me up" moment.
But I've never seen such rapid fire defense than the comments at the CBS website. But, but but it's not the same as macaca!
This is hilarious....
February 1, 2007 - 09:36 ET by Guy Arthur ThomasThis is absoultely hilarious...Biden overcooked himself on the first day. Regardless of how many liberal blacks in politics come to his rescue, the rest of the black community isn't buying it. He!!, they won't even vote for Jesse or Al most of the time in national elections.
There are certain things that people will tolerate. The average white American will accept certain forms of duplicity and deception and the average black American will as well (lest anyone think I am leaving out hispanics and asians I am not, this issue is black and white [forgive the pun ] and I don't have time for rabbit trails).
In the case of what appear to be racially insensitive remarks by a white toward a black, even a liberal, unless he is running as a popular incumbent against a Republican, isn't so easily forgiven by blacks. And Biden is very stereotypcial of the kind of white politician blacks have been indoctrinated to distrust on sight. They are taught to not pay attention to anything he says and when he speaks they are to listen for racist remarks only and well...Biden did just that.
The fact is Biden is already gone. There is no recovery. Now he can kid himself if he wants, he can pretend the voices of his buddies, friends and co-conspirators are all the objections he will face and somehow includes the boiling cynicism of most blacks toward those who make such comments. Go ahead Joe, have a party and pretend all is well, just don't show up in Harlem or anywhere there are UNCLEAN blacks...they aren't buying it.
If you claim to be a conservative, please don't disgrace yourself and conservatism by thinking and arguing like a liberal. Go Rudy!
