January 30, 2007 - 12:36 ET by misterbillTM NBers thought you might like this--we have great Senators and Congressmen in georgia. Here is part of a reply I rececived from Saxby Chambliss re: Iraq and surge: (I am pleased with it.)
"In my conversations with the President and in a recent Senate Armed Services hearing with Secretary Gates, I have made it clear that my support of any increase in troops is conditional upon those troops having a specific mission, and upon the completion of that mission those troops should be redeployed. I firmly believe that a large increase in t roops without having a specific mission will only increase insurgent opposition, and that a withdrawal of U.S. forces at this time would be de trimental to Iraqi security. Failure in Iraq will result in expanded, intensified conflict in the Middle East , and endanger our national security.
"I am also pleased that the foundation of the President's plan includes an increased financial and military commitment from the Iraqis. They need to take control of their country both militarily and politically and, in the end, this is not something that th e United States and our allies can do for them. It is important for there to be a stable political situation in Iraq before we remove our troops. However, the Iraqis bear the ultimate responsibility for building that stability and the United States must hold them accountable for doing so.

January 30, 2007 - 12:49 ET by Dave Rmb,
You are correct about us having a pretty good group of congressional representatives here, especially now that Jihad Cindy is no longer prowling the halls of congress (yeah, we still have John Lewis, but at least he is a decent human being). With these people I don't really feel I have to fire off an email every single time an issue comes up, as I know they are going to do the right thing most all of the time. I feel for those who are being represented by fence sitters.
BTW> I've been meaning to ask you about this but keep forgetting to. Are you ever going to forgive the management geniuses (remember "Planet Radio?") at WGST for firing The Kimmer?
I cannot recall ever being so cheesed off in my life!

January 30, 2007 - 13:01 ET by misterbilldave r- this may surprise you, but except for WJZZ, I hardly listen to radio at all. A lot of it is because of my hearing problem. I heartily enjoy and agree with Rush, lovely Laura, Sean etal, but I get most of my news right here at my PC.
I retired this past April and have been catching up on politics since. Verrry disenheartening. Also =equally scary is the apathy of those who basically are conservative, but are so busy with the every day demands of life that they pay no attention. There was no sarcasm in the previous statement. I WAS one of those. We should have an ombudsman position (or 2 or 3 ) in very state. This would help keep people aware and help tp watch our elected officials.

McKinney is perhaps the biggest racist I have ever met. I believe her alter ego is Cynthia Tucker. And look at the recent rants of onetime fine folks like Andrew Young and Julian Bond. Add to the mix the a$$holes of the South--Jimmuh Cahtuh, Hanoi Jane and twisted Ted Turner and we should be on our knees thanking heaven for our Senators.

Speaking of disheartening, you may want to avoid the link I posted above, as what little I have been able to read so far is depressing beyond words.
Up until I was diagnosed with Western Diet Disease last year, I never really gave a great deal of thought to the state of healthcare in this country, as I always got what I needed as soon as I needed it. Now I have to wonder if I am going to be faced with a situation in the future where I am going to be forced to risk criminal prosecution for going to a doctor and paying for it (God forbid!) out of my own pocket.
It's enough to make one sick just thinking about it.

Let us analyze this statement - Ms. Clinton supports the troops, but at the same time is calling the military incompetent. Who, but the military is "executing the strategy"? If all the rules/regulations are followed, it takes a minimum of 9 people to get a single F-16 in the air. It certainly does take a team and a lot of effort.

Global Warming Hysteria
January 30, 2007 - 12:57 ET by NeoCon JediDrudge Report is highlighting the hysteria around global warming with the release of the UN special report that the Earth's temperature is rising and sea levels with it. In addition, the Democrats are now trying to pin the White House with a "cover-up" by "altering" facts about global warming. So if Iraq wasn't enough, now the Bush Administration is trying to destroy the Earth by covering up global warming.
Tell me, how can you cover up something that is blasted all over the newspapers, television and internet on a daily basis? I would ask why are others (I.e. liberals and environmental nut-jobs) covering up the counter point that global warming is not caused by humans but by natural forces?

"Thank you for contacting me regarding the "grassroots lobbying" provision in the Legislative Transparency and Accountability Act of 2007 (S.1)."
"The Senate recently approved an amendment to remove the grassroots provision, before overwhelmingly passing the bipartisan broader bill. I voted to uphold the grassroots lobbying provision because it would have increased transparency in lobbying."
"A great deal of confusion surrounded this particular provision in the weeks leading up to this vote. In reality, this provision would have affected few true grassroots organizations."
"Instead, the provision would have applied only to paid efforts by large, professional lobbying firms to stimulate grassroots lobbying. Only groups spending more than $25,000 per quarter to influence the general public to lobby Congress would have been affected by the provision. It would not have prevented organizations from communicating with their members."
"Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this important issue. Achieving effective, bipartisan ethics and lobbying reform remains a priority for me. Please don't hesitate to contact me in the future."

January 30, 2007 - 21:35 ET by MerlinI don't comment too much here ('cause quite frankly most folks beat me to constuctive comments by the time I read the site). That said, I like to occasionally throw my 2 cents in where I can (and hopefully add to the knowledge base).
It's sad when news for the support on the WOT and for our president must come from the Great White North

Also, from Rush's site, an interesting Kerry parody.

January 30, 2007 - 21:50 ET by MerlinYes it is. It is unbelievable what has happened to the country over the last 6 years. The hatred of President Bush has blinded people so badly they can no longer see the forest for the trees, as it were.
If I were young enough and in any kind of shape (alas, the years have caught up with me) I would certainly be signing up to join in and fight the WOT. I'm not in shape for it anymore (unless you consider a triangle a shape :-) ), but I certainly contribute to the military through other means (volunteer to help families, money, drives, etc).
Just wish I could do more, but at least, I do what I can and let my actions speak for themselves. I'd like to see the rest of the folks that "support our troops" do more to support the effort rather than just complain and try to impeach our president.

I share your interest in wanting to help. If our country could use an overweight, mostly bald, 50ish male, I would sign up in a second. People, especially those on the left, never look at the big picture, and I fear their narrow mindedness will be the cause of many more innocent deaths.
I also find this hatred of our president nothing short of disgusting. He's agood man trying to do the right thing, but he beleives in the lord so therefore he is evil. I just don't get it!
Clear,I don't get it either.
January 30, 2007 - 22:12 ET by MerlinClear,
I don't get it either. I was in the Air Force (F4 pilot back in the 70's) and I certainly understand what the military is going through (especially since old Jimmuh was the President when I was in) and I know what it's like to want to serve my country. I left a promising job as an engineer to serve, coming from a family of military folks. College educated...good job as a civilian...guess I broke the mold of how the Kerry's and Rangle's see the people that sign up.
The hatred festering in this country is destroying the fabric of what built this great nation (just look at the comments on Huffington, if you have the stomach). If we don't get some civility back, and soon, I fear for where we're going to be heading as a great nation.
Merlin...Destroying the fabri
January 30, 2007 - 22:22 ET by Clear thinkerMerlin...
Destroying the fabric seems to be what the lefties want. I take issue with some radio personalities that blame both sides for the divisiveness in the country. IMO it has always been the left that throws the opening salvo, and then the right gets put in a losing position. Either we hold our tongues and get called wusses, or we fight back and are called crazy religous extremists. As far as I'm concerned it's the left that has to do the changing, then maybe we can begin having civil arguments again.
