Is It Time To Bring Back The Draft??? Written By: Matt Bruce News Source: News Sarasota, Iraq Study Group, Congress SARASOTA, FL. (NS) - After the Iraq Study Group released its report last month, there'sbeen a lot of speculation over whether bringing back the Draft wouldbe something needed to be done... In its report the Iraq Study Group said, "An extroadinary amount ofsacrifice has been asked of our men and women in uniform, and of theirfamilies. The American Military has little reserve force to call on ifit needs ground forces to respond to other crises around the World." Immedately after that, Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY), spoke up andstarted to immediately publicly discuss the option of reinstating theMilitary Draft... The Selective Service Act went into effect in 1917 when it requiredAmerican civilian males between the ages of 21-30 to register forWWI... The United States hasn't had a military draft since 1973, whenCongress eliminated conscription as the Vietnam War was drawing to anend... For most of its history, the United States has been without a draft. But the times we live in and the Global War on Terror may have forcedthat all to change... Many military officers, lawmakers and analyists oppose bringing backthe draft. However a larger number of our our elected officials andmore ranking members of the military are starting to suggest bringingback the draft... Today's military has been an all-volunteer force the past 34 years. The demands being brought forward by the Global War on Terror, is nowpresent in at least 60 Countries around the World in one form oranother... The Army had 732,000 active-duty soldiers during the 1991 Persian GulfWar which happened 3 years after President Ronald reagan was out ofoffice... During the Clinton years, the force was reduced and now numbers about512,000 under President Bush... The Bush administration recognizes there's a problem and has promisedto add 92,000 service members to the Army and Marine Corps over thenext 5 years... But how do you do this without mentioning the fact there may be a needfor the reactivation of the Military Draft??? This would mean Army and Marine recruiters would have to sign upadditional people every year, while they're already struggling to meetrecruiting quotas and some standards have had to be dropped to doso... For example, raising the enlistment age to 42, allowing some lessorcriminal charges previously not allowed for recuit eligibility andlowering some of the test scores recruits have to take... I would like to suggest that IF the United States Government feels theneed to reinstate the Military Draft, that we add women between theages of 18-39 to the list... Women have already been proven to be able and willing to serve inCombat situations and have performed extremely well under someextremely adverse conditions... While the Feminist's will never agree with what I've just said, go aska female soldier what she thinks about what they're doing forAmerica... I have and they are damn proud to be serving and are willing to dowhatever it takes to defend, protect and serve America... That being said, the men's requirements for instituting a new Draftwould probably remain the same as the enlistment requirements. Theonly thing that might be changed would be the maximum age of 42, whichwould probably be dropped to 39 as well... When you start seeing the likes of 'Jane Fonda' back on the anti-warstage, every Vietnam veteran remembers what she meant to our Enemy andhow her efforts gave more resolve to the NVA and Viet Cong Forcesfighting against us in Vietnam and across Southeast Asia... It is time for honorable and patriotic men and women across America tostand up for our Military. The fact of the matter is, our young menand women serving in our Military today are keeping the Terrorist'sfrom operating and doing what they're doing over there, right here inour Country... For the people that don't understand that, I say what rock have youbeen living under??? The Radical Islamic Muslim Terrorist's are real and they want nothingmore than to kill as many of us as they can. They know they can defeatus in the world of public opinion, if we allow them to... We are not the people running around with suicide bombers, killinghundreds and thousands of people each and every month... We are also not the people running around beheading those who stand upand fight against them in the name of their Religion... And finally, what part of the word TERRORIST don't you understand??? These people do not want to talk. They do not want to negiotate. Theymerely want to kill as many of us as they can and destroy our way oflife... Democracy is not a part of their beliefs or upbringing. We are the'Great Satan' because we allow women the right to vote. That alsoapplies to women having the ability to express their opinion. Youdon't have to look very far to understand that either... Just go to Afghanistan where the Taliban ruled and you'll run acrosswomen who have had their tongues cut out for rendering any opinionagainst the Muslim fanatics that used to run that Country... These are the facts that are there to be found if you just bother tolook. So the fact still remains, do you want to fight them overthere...or over here??? To do what we need to do to destroy the Radical Islamic Terrorist'saround the World before they have the chance to destroy us, we 'may'have to bring back the Military Draft... Think about that when you read the headlines from across the Globe... Draft proponents say that those whom the Military doesn't need couldbe used instead to work in Homeland Security guarding our Airports,Seaports and Borders or could even work in understaffed Hospitals orSchools. All of this could be done just by reinstating the Draft... So, consider the evidence and the facts of what I've written and thenstand up for America and our brave Military men and women... You can either be part of the solution or remain part of the problem. The choice is up to you... For Now, That's Just 'OUR' Opinion... The basis for this editorial
January 29, 2007 - 21:41 ET by ThoughtPoliceThe basis for this editorial is based on a lie. It assumes there is a "war on terror" as one would assume there is a "war on drugs." Why are there still drugs? Why don't we enlist the men and women of the united states to fight the "war on drugs?" For the same reason we won't force them to enlist to fight the 'war on terror." It's a farce; a great lie made up by a cabal who's only intention is to make people think there are Bogeymen out there to get us all so we better do what the gov't says! Yes sir, you can poke and prod me with chips so you know that I am at a barnes & noble, just bought a latte, and paid with my new visa. Why should I care? I'm not a 'terrorist.'
Get informed, get mad, then get real...

Easy, slowly raise the second sheet of tin foil and lay it gently over the hat already on your head... that's it. exhale.
Bend the back down a little. Tilt it a little more to the left... there.
All better. Hug.
Here, take your pills and sit down.

Well...funny you should ask.
January 29, 2007 - 21:57 ET by Eric TurnerWell...funny you should ask. Look up information on JTF-6 .
The real guys you should be asking about the "war on drugs" (which I agree - there isn't one; skirmish at best), are your congressmen and senators and why they are putting a strangle hold on funds for counterdrug operations and such in Colombia. That's a whole other issue.
But short story is this - talk to your congressmen and senators as to why there is no war on drugs. The war on terrorism would be ran much better if it wasn't being ran by committee and scared politicians (and even flag officers in the military with higher aspirations) who don't want to risk their careers on taking a chance on taking out the bad guys. I can't count how many operations I saw NOT take place because we didn't get the go-ahead from higher-ups due to fear and it was left to the local national forces to take care of and they would fail (I'm not speaking of Iraq or Afghanistan but I won't mention countries for security reasons). So talk to them and this covers BOTH administrations (Clinton and Bush).
But your premise of there being no "bogeymen" is false - totally false. I saw the intelligence. It's troubling to say the least.
It sure as hell doesn't cos

Of course there is no War on
January 30, 2007 - 07:24 ET by NL207Of course there is no War on Terror. Just like there is no war on drugs and no war on poverty.
There are lots of bogeymen out there. You are unable to recognize them because you insist on believing some fairy tale about Bush staging the WTC attack. Tell me, how did Bush stage the attack on the USS Cole, the East African embassy bombings and the Khobar Towers attack? Because to believe there are no enemies out there means you must believe those incidents either did not occur or were the product of the Bush conspiracy ... except that they occurred while Clinton was President.
I am surprised you have a Visa. If, as you believe, the Government is spying on everyone with a Visa card, then you have volunteered to be spied upon! Could it be that you really do not believe domestic spying is a problem?
No, the Visa was just an exam
January 30, 2007 - 13:39 ET by ThoughtPoliceNo, the Visa was just an example. I don't know how they spy on us, as I am not the one doing the spying (epiphany: the same reason we can't tell Unsane HOW they committed 9/11...gee whiz...) There are obvious ways, and not so obvious ways.
As to whether there are bogey/bad/evil men out there, yea no shit sherlock. The point is i can go out to my car and be shot and killed by someone. The difference is the gov't isn't telling us to fear the ones that will more than likely "get" us. The probablity of being killed by a terrorist attack is no more likely than being struck by a bolt of lightning. But with this administration and there wanting there to be 100% "save me" type fear, there is a terrorist hiding around every corner, at every sporting event, etc.
Thus, how do we get people to go along with what we want? Oh yea, scare the shit out of them (9/11), tell them they are being hunted by "islamofascists" who want to kill all Americans (while at the same time, invade and kill them; man propaganda is a wonderful thing when THEY know how to use it).
It's not hard to fathom once you develop an I.Q. of at least 80...not asking to much, eh?
Your math is no better than y
January 30, 2007 - 15:29 ET by NL207Your math is no better than your conspiracy theories. The odds of being killed by lightning are about 6.2 Milllion to one in any given year taken over the 15 year interval 1989-2003. About 700 persons died in this manner over this interval. Considering the same interval that terrorist activity killed about 3100 Americans, the odds you will be killed by a terrorist are only about 4.5 times that of being killed by lightning.
Let me know when you develop an IQ of 80.
