While interviewing Senator Hillary Clinton Tuesday during MSNBC's State of the Union coverage, Chris Matthews referred to "ideologues on the right" who opposed her health care plan from 1994, saying they had planned to "kill this baby in its bassinette." Matthews wondered if Senator Clinton still felt the "sting of that strategy on the other side." (Transcript follows)
Below is a transcript of Matthews's question to Senator Clinton:
Matthews, to Hillary Clinton at 10:47pm EST.: "Back when you were working so hard on health care, back in the 90s, in the early 90s, and you really thought you could get some kind of compromise at the end, I believe, and the word came from the ideologues on the right, 'Kill this baby in its bassinette. Do not let them get a compromise health care bill that they can get credit for.' Do you still feel the sting of that strategy on the other side?"

Hillarycare
January 24, 2007 - 03:47 ET by SportPoliticsHillarycare. Ok, so the truth is these talking heads are so insane, that after whining the SS system is due for implosion, and the already larger than Social Security looming debt markers ready to bust the budget in Medicare/Medicaid in the babyboomers retire scenario we've heard ten thousand times from both of them, they cavalierly offer up the federal government providing healthcare to everyone, as if it were even remotely possible, as they both, no doubt, only TV tube time appearances moments ago babbled on how just the 80 billion a year for ONLY SOME PILLS for seniors with the gaping donut hole lack of coverage blew the budget to shreds, thanks to Bush.
These people, like Chrissy, and Hillary, are flat out INSANE. Is compulsive lying a mental illness ? Sure is.
Maybe instead of all the kids in their government lockdown schools of perversion and pathetic non-discipline getting meds jammed down their throats, we ought to reserve the pill dollar pool for the likes of Chrissy and Hillary.
Really, how insane are these two ? Do they think the general public forgets their few moments ago whines about SS, medicare and the pill program that blew apart the budget ? How are they even considering paying for everyones healthcare when they cannot even afford pills for seniors - and the baby boomers haven't swamped the senior numbers yet ?
They must really be twisting inside, grinding themselves into a circle of insanity, to be able to pull this kind of crap off. It has to be a matter of fact to them that their lips are forming lies even before they speak.
I cannot even fathom the disconnect.

January 24, 2007 - 05:48 ET by liberal_bug_zapperThese people are out to destroy the nation and it is time that conservatives stop hoping that the Republican party will do anything about it. We need to start a third party, a Conservative party. The UK has a conservative party as does Canada, and those parties, while not a majority do hold quite a bit of power. As I can see, we will never be able to weed the non-conservatives out of the Republican party, but if we started a new party, then maybe even the likes of Joe Lieberman would join it (in the Senate... but I will use the house for my example)
If we don't make the conservative party a Christian conservative party, we can be all inclusive for the beliefs that we all hold.
All of these things and more are what I believe in. And we can get these if we started a new party. Let's break down the numbers...
There are 435 seats in congress of which right now, Democrats have 233 seats and Republicans have 202. Now, let's say we start a new party and 100 of the Republicans (who are true conservatives) join the new Conservative Party. Now the Republicans have 102 seats, the Conservative Party has 100 seats and the Democrats would control 233 seats... looks bad right? Wrong, the Republicans would now have to woo the Conservatives to block the Democrat agenda, and the Democrats would have to come further to the right in order to even have a chance at wooing Conservatives. The RINOS (which makes no sense to me as I've never known why we say they are untrue to the Republican parties' roots) would show their true colors (as they already do) and would join the Dems on many votes. Now I'm not too sure, but I think that as the Dems move left, those on the Conservative side of the aisle in the Democrat party could join the newly formed Conservative Party (as they wouldn't break any promises about breaking ranks and joining the Republicans) and quite possibly weaken the Dems enough to make negotiating much more necessary.
All of this would be the beginning of what would be a conservative take over as the heart of the Conservative Party's ideals would be Conservatism.... unlike that of the Republican Party....
Look, sure we take a hit right off the bat, but much of the countries disenfranchised Conservatives would JUMP at the chance to vote a TRUE conservative ticket.

I Agree
January 24, 2007 - 11:35 ET by emjem24I agree with you, liberal bug zapper. For too long, these RINOS like McCain, Snow, Collins, Hagel, and their ilk have controlled the Republican party. Unfortunately, you need a lot of demand for this and capital to start this. Strategists are already telling many Republicans that in order to win seats or even keep their existing ones, they need to move to the middle. Politics is compromise but where has that gotten us, America? No where. No true immigration reform that finally gets rid of illegals, no strong military that can actually see through military battles, no strong education system that's competive with the rest of the world and trully EDUCATES our kids not INDOCTRINATES them ( I should know I used to be a public school teacher), no independece from foreign oil, no addressing of outsourcing American jobs or even trying to keep them here, and no dismantling of unions (one of the biggest threats to this country just ask Ford and other American car companies). What this country has lost is its free will...it's hard to make decisions with all the various interest groups controlling the legislation and conversation. It's hard to have meaningful elections when our politicians themselves are bloated, overpaid, and not TERM LIMITED. We need term limits but it's hard because these people don't hold themselves to the same high standards that we're holding them to. Many in America have lost sight of the bigger picture. If you don't participate in the electorate, you get what you tune out of. That's a huge factor right now. Americans have become fat, lazy, and morally corrupt themselves so we're asking these Americans to vote in people like themselves. Do you catch my drift? Until we ask more of ourselves and do some self-examination we will keep electing these bozos like Hagel, Kennedy, Boxer, McCain, Feingold, Obama, Hillary, etc. America wake up! If you don't, and you don't participate, then guess what? You have no right to complain about the government you never deigned to vote for or against. In a long-winded way, I'm agreeing with you, lib, it's just how to do it that's the crux of the matter.

Actually, they planned to kill this non-viable issue mass in the womb, which should have made it palatable to the democrats.

Universal Health Care Doesn't Work
January 24, 2007 - 11:17 ET by emjem24Hey, Chrissy Sissy, get a clue. Universal Health Care never works. Just ask Canada, Denmark, other Scandinavian countries, and the UK. There's lack of services, waiting lists, and lack of providers. Is this the much vaunted health care we're all waiting for? Or is Hillary Care so much better because it's developed by a first lady who didn't have the wherewithal to implement it or even knew what she talked about? Of course the Republicans are going to criticize and attack it! It would be sure folly to implement a program that disallows choices for ones own healthcare. That's not what America was built on. No, no, Chrissy Sissy needs to bow down, drop trow, and expose those cheeks for major butt kissing. My goodness, what next, if we're just like Europe we'll be safe from terrorists who want to blow us up? You first, Chrissy, I'm staying in my bunker.
