David Gregory Wants Bush to Dance to Global Warming Groove

Photo of Ken Shepherd.

NBC's David Gregory might be a decent reporter when he's not biased, and I know he's a great dancer, but he's no meteorologist. James Spann is, and on the January 22 "Glenn Beck" program on CNN Headline News, Spann explained the many other causes of global warming other than Gregory shuttling via jet from D.C. to New York to substitute-anchor the January 23 "Today" show.

Maybe D-Greg wasn't watching. The next morning he pressed White House press secretary Tony Snow if the president would "concede that humans are responsible for global warming."

But as Spann explained on Beck's program, carbon emissions are "a pop gun compared to" larger natural influences like "volcanic dust in the stratosphere, the position of the sun,
the temperature of the sun, the structure of the Earth’s magnetic poles, and
ocean currents."

Video of Spann here (Windows Media) and here (Real Player).

RunningBeer says, "Follow the money...and you'll find the scientists and the media...all stand to gain a great deal with this hype."

You guys need to send emails to the American Meteorological Society (who gave Spann his credentials to be a meteorologist.)  The AMS seems to have been bribed (according to RunningBeer) because they believe global warming is real, is caused in part by man, and is going to get worse in the future.  This is their policy on global warming.  What a bunch of whack jobs they must be.  I think you should email the Executive Director and ask him how much they got paid off to falsify their studies and where they get off on saying such horrible, obviously wrong things like this:

"Executive Summary

There is now clear evidence that the mean annual temperature at the Earth's surface, averaged over the entire globe, has been increasing in the past 200 years. There is also clear evidence that the abundance of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has increased over the same period. In the past decade, significant progress has been made toward a better understanding of the climate system and toward improved projections of long-term climate change. Several national and international studies published in 2001 have provided reviews and assessments of the science of climate change. A National Research Council report concluded that "[g]reenhouse gases are accumulating in the Earth's atmosphere as a result of human activities, causing surface air temperatures and subsurface ocean temperatures to rise. . . . The changes observed over the last several decades are likely mostly due to human activities, but we cannot rule out that some significant part of these changes is also a reflection of natural variability" (National Research Council 2001a). The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reported that recent regional climate changes, particularly temperature increases, have already affected many physical and biological systems (McCarthy et al. 2001), and a national assessment on climate change impacts on the United States concluded that "natural ecosystems, which are our life support system in many ways, appear to be the most vulnerable to the harmful effects of climate change," but, "highly managed ecosystems appear more robust" (National Assessment Synthesis Team 2001). The report by the IPCC stated that the global mean temperature is projected to increase by 1.4°C-5.8°C in the next 100 years (Houghton et al. 2001). Uncertainties remain in several key aspects, including the magnitude, timing, and regional distribution of anticipated climate change. These uncertainties can and should be better understood and quantified, and reduced by advances in the following research areas:

  • Understanding of climate system forcing, interactions and feedbacks;
  • Projections of global and regional climate change and their environmental and social impacts;
  • Methods for quantifying the uncertainty of climate change projections and articulating our understanding of the uncertainties to policy makers.

The infrastructure required to meet these research priorities include

  • reliable, long-term climate information from paleorecords as well as from existing and future observational systems, designed or adapted for the study of climate variability and change;
  • adequate computational resources for climate research and projections and for ensembles of calculations to quantify uncertainties in the projections;
  • a focused and well-coordinated multiagency and international research and applications structure.

Because human activities are contributing to climate change, we have a collective responsibility to develop and undertake carefully considered response actions. The fundamental challenge is to understand and respond to the risk represented by climate change in the larger context of overall societal issues and environmental stresses. Development of effective response strategies requires a holistic approach, in which the natural and social sciences, in tandem with technology and engineering, proceed side by side in a broad multidisciplinary effort. The federal agencies involved are now organized under a presidential initiative that mandates cooperative activities in climate change research and climate change technology (U.S. Climate Change Science Program 2002). The atmospheric and related sciences have a central role to play in providing scientific knowledge needed to inform and evaluate many aspects of proposed response strategies.

1. Introduction. Human activities have become a major source of environmental change. Of great urgency are the climate consequences of the increasing atmospheric abundance of greenhouse gases and other trace constituents resulting primarily from energy use, agriculture, and land clearing. These radiatively active gases and trace constituents interact strongly with the Earth's energy balance, resulting in the prospect of significant global warming. When used in this context, the term "global warming" includes all climate and environment effects arising from natural climate variability as well as from anthropogenic changes in atmospheric composition and land use. For many nations, the possibility of substantial climate change is viewed as likely to have a serious impact on the global environment and on human welfare over the course of the next few decades to centuries. Because greenhouse gases continue to increase, we are, in effect, conducting a global climate experiment, neither planned nor controlled, the results of which may present unprecedented challenges to our wisdom and foresight as well as have significant impacts on our natural and societal systems. It is a long-term problem that requires a long-term perspective. Important decisions confront current and future national and world leaders."

Shady,

Didn't have to read beyond your first paragraph to know you're full of crap.  Pleeeeeeeeeeeze show me where I stated AMS is making money off of GW?  What's a matter??? Can't do it?  Didn't think so (moron!).  If you had half the smarts you think you do then you'd know AMS didn't say strip meteorologists, the left wingnut from the weather channel pitched that idea... and she IS on the take.  She wouldn't have a show without all the hype.

Find yourself a scientist who ISN'T benefiting monetarily from all the GW hype and you'll see a factual decenting opinion.  And not the social scientists Al Bore uses, I mean a real, bonafide climate scientist.

Next time you post... do us all a favor... use a link instead posting your entire library of GW bullsh*t fiction.  I can copy that from a zillion bogus websites without your help.

Beer

Beer,

I posted this exact link two days ago on Newsbusters, and the next posts that commented on it had not linked over to it to read it.  They would comment on what they had not even read.  That is the specific reason I did it this time.  I link stuff all the time and nobody here clicks on anything.

The fact that you say that the American Meteorological Society, the org. that licenses every real weatherman you see on tv, is a bogus website, says a lot.  Since you said Pleeeeeeze show you where you said AMS is making money off of GW...it was your quote of "follow the money and you'll find scientists stand to make a great deal with this hype."  I quoted that at the beginning of my post.  Obviously, in NB world, if a group of scientists (in this case meteorologists) say GW exists, they must be getting bribed somehow.  That is what YOU said Beer.  Or was that NOT what you said?

"That is what YOU said B

"That is what YOU said Beer.  Or was that NOT what you said? "

You see shady, I have a real problem with people twisting what I say and putting words in my mouth.  Me thinks you need to reread my initial post, then take a deep breathe.... hold it... now see if you still need to ask the question again.

RunningBeer

RunningBeer said: "Follow the money, just as meteorologist James Spann said, and you'll find the scientists and media personalities all stand to gain a great deal from this hype."

This does not mean that you think scientists who say that global warming exists stand to get paid a lot of money if they perpetuate the "hype"? If I am misunderstanding what you are saying, please state it in other words instead of telling me to reread what I have now retyped back to you three times?

The scientists are receiving

The scientists are receiving billions of dollars in grants, public and private.  The bimbo from the weather channel is paid quite well to hype it up on her show.  That's what I was refering to.  I can't seem to find where I stated "AMS."

The money these payrolled scientists receive leaves me suspect of them ever finding reason to doubt GW (publicly that is), lest they loose their funding and have to get a real job.  Now if you're implying the entire AMS is on the take, thanks for the hattip ;) I'll start researching that group too.

RunningBeer

RunningBeer,

Dropping the you said/I said tapdance we have been playing, my question is "What benefit does the American Meterological Society get from saying global warming exists IF IT ISN"T TRUE?  They are just weather people.  They work whether it is cold outside or not.  They have zero motivation to just make stuff up.

Danbo, you are going in a hundred directions.  First of all, I am saying the exact same things now that I said yesterday:  That I am not a meteorologist, but that I respect the policy statements of the board of Meteorologists more than bloggers on a political website.  I questioned your using of a source on global warming that was written in 1997.  Now you are acting like that was ridiculous of me to do.  If you want to use sources from 1997, go ahead.  It won't help your debate one iota, though.

And to all of you...Again, please email the American Meteorological Society with all the pointed questions and insults that you have been sending me. I am just a real estate appraiser.  They are the real problem.  They are the junk scientists.  Tell them how the world really works. Explain to them how their science is flawed.  Send them the Fred Singer reports that you linked me to.  Oh, wait.  Nobody has linked a Fred Singer data report.

I read links shadesofgray

I read links shadesofgray, and your link took me to the government site US climate change science program dot gov. It's the link noted at the end of the "adopted" paper you posted, from whence they drew their "conclusions" ( which are supremely mushy at best - although lengthy - and here's why - right from their little data collection government funded research HQ).

US CLIMATE CHANGE SCIENCE PROGRAM

headquartered at the wonderful .gov website link

chapter 12:

[ Research into the basic processes of global environmental change provides the foundation of knowledge required to improve projections and understand the consequences of interacting stresses on natural resources and human activities. However, the seven research elements described in Part II cannot meet the Climate Change Science Program (CCSP) objective for the coming decade. Even the first part of the objective -- extending knowledge of the Earth system and improving projections of global change at scales relevant to decisionmaking -- cannot be met without more extensive integration, regional synthesis, advances in modeling capabilities, and sustained commitment to observations and data information systems. ]

So we have the big government science program on climate change telling us all that the research they have done and are doing is insufficient for the purposes of accurate predictions, and of course, much more extensive resources must be gained ( read more than 1.7 billion dollars per year up from a couple hundred thousand before the big scare ), before they can say with any sort of accuracy what is going on.

LOL - I love it - their gigantic site - and loads and loads of bloviating, but of course the main thrust is securing more of our tax dollars for the ever expanding and inconclusive research they say just doesn't cut it even into the next decade when it comes to doing their job and reaching their objective, by offering enough certainty for policy decision making.

Yes, some of us actually read this crap, and see how the very institution claims on their own website they haven't got a clue which way it's going, or why.

LOL - It's a very shadedwithgrays area. Imagine the millions and millions and millions of dollars flowing in, and of course, it's never, never enough. They need more $$$$$$$, and much more research before they can meet their assigned goals, AS THEY SAY THEMSELVES.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAA - Good luck lib cuckoo!

PS - There's always the "parent agency" that helps employ more and more eggheads with big long words and reports - and here they are - the US GLOBAL CHANGE RESEARCH PROGRAM - and of course they give their little link to the USCGP, from whence they sucketh all their bones ( with the same website setup - hehehe ). I guess this extra nameplace is good for a couple hundred more employees or the like. Government is so supremely efficient isn't it ? lol

Shades,  I hate to break this news to you, but the AMS until very recently, 2003, if I recall correctly, did not accept that humans were having any measureable impact on Earth's climate.   Their recent reversal of position  is a lukewarm endorsement, at best, which is evidenced by this quote from YOUR link:  "The changes observed over the last several decades are likely mostly due to human activities, but we cannot rule out that some significant part of these changes is also a reflection of natural variability"   They go much further.  If you search their literature, you will find that they are suggesting the total change has been on the order of 0.6 degree C. To put this in perspective:  It is thought the last ice age ended about 10,800 years ago in a spate of global warming  approximately 6.0 degrees C which is thought to have occured in a span of about 70-90 years.  Do the research.  This is all available on the web.  The cause of this event is still the subject of conjecture.

Even today, the rank and file membership does not accept this premise, as was clearly indicated by a post from one of them on another thread here the other day.

For my part, I'll buy your global warming theories when your friends in the global warming scince industry are able to explain the historical climate record and correctly model the earth's climate system.  They are presently able to do neither.  Proof:  Ask Dr, Seitter to answer these  questions:  1.  Why did the last ice age begin?  2.  Why did the last ice age end?  3.  Why did the Earth cool suddenly in the mid-eocene?  4. Why don't any of the existing climate models correctly regress the entire dataset from 1850 to present?    If he tells you the naked truth, he wlll say he doesn't know the answer to any of thse questions.  Until he does, the fascist nut jobs like Al Gore are to be devoutly ignored.

Shadesofgray, and other Lefti

Shadesofgray, and other Leftists, your intense hatred for science is showing.  What, is science ONLY valid when one organization somehow validates it?

Please violently, and publicly, begin pistol-whipping and beating ANYONE who questions either global warming, its purported source, or both.  Also, why not write your Congresscritter demanding a Constitutional amendment stripping the civil/constitutional rights of ANYONE, scientist or not, who DARES to question the idea of man-made global warming.  And, to make those bastards easier to identify, force them to wear thermometers about their necks no matter where they go.

The day science becomes a dogma that can only be approved by a select few is the day science dies.  But you don't care if science dies, so long as you can force society to shrieve you of your guilt.

There are several kinds of pollution you can buy. there's bad pollution. Really bad pollution and if you're willing to pay the extra price. The really, really bad pollution.

It comes in pints, quarts, 2 litre bottles and gallon bottles. And of course for the real conniseur. there's the economy 5 gallon bottle of pollution.

We have 3 new flavors available locally. Paper mill flavored pollution. Sugar mill flavored pollution, and nasa rocket exhaust flavor. Over in New Orleans they have the coffee roasters flavor. But that comes with a real premium. And is in demand.

"The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule.”   H.L. Mencken

Danbo, a new flavor for your consideration

Danbo,

Have you sampled Iowa Hog Confinement Facility pollution?  Not for the faint of heart.

That must really be for those

That must really be for those with a truly aquired pallate. Is there a premium to the cost?

My personal preference is for the coffee roasters pollution.  With sugar mill then NASA rocket exhaust and lastly paper mill.Which is below the rare outhouse flavored pollution. Unfortunately the coffee roasters flavor  isn't available here on the coast.

However, for a brief period. When the warehouse containing frozen shrimp and frozen chicken was destroyed. Well for a brief period we had two additional flavors available.

"The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule.”   H.L. Mencken

Science

MikeB this string indicates that to a rightwing conservative, science is valid iff it validates their previously held belief.  If science does NOT validate their previously held belief, then the scientist that did that bit of research is obviously a liberally biased, Al Gore-paid shill for envirowacko groups or is only trying to steal tax dollars.  I would also add that if a person with an opposing viewpoint were to debate with that rightwing conservative, he is instantly labeled a paranoid nutjob and his opinions are summarily dismissed, even when his views are supported by the policy statement of the leading meteorological group in this country. How ironic that you all pound me with your supposed love of open scientific debate.  That is only if the science points in one direction.

To the rest of you Newsbusters folks:  Again, none of you have the cojones to email any of the obvious government shills trying to steal your tax dollars at the AMS.  You have lots of guts when it comes to stating your cases with a guy on a blog, but you know that if you actually had to phrase an argument head to head against an expert backed by research at a mainstream organization, you would be shot down like a Cheney hunting partner.  Take your infallible arguments outside of the goldfish bowl.  If it is true when you say it to me, then it must be  true when you say it to them.  Email the AMS.  Or the National Academy of Sciences.  See where it takes you.  But you don't have the guts, do you?

Sheepofgray

I agree.  You don't have the guts to think for yourself, and fear critical thinking.  You will only think whatever the AMS TELLS you to think, and to hell with what individual scientists in that organization may think.

I might e-mail one of these guys/gals...the day you begin critically thinking on your own, unplug yourself from others, and stop being such a sheep.

"The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule.”   H.L. Mencken

It doesn't matter what blogge

It doesn't matter what bloggers say; what matters is the inconvenient suppression of facts, figures, and statements made by other scientists that don't believe humans are a main cause of climate changes. For example, consider this quote (picked up from a 12 June article by Tom Harris in CFP (Canada Free Press):

Professor Bob Carter of the Marine Geophysical Laboratory at James Cook University, in Australia gives what, for many Canadians, is a surprising assessment: "Gore's circumstantial arguments are so weak that they are pathetic. It is simply incredible that they, and his film, are commanding public attention."  The article goes on to say (emphasis mine):

"Carter is one of hundreds of highly qualified non-governmental, non-industry, non-lobby group climate experts who contest the hypothesis that human emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) are causing significant global climate change. "Climate experts" is the operative term here. Why? Because what Gore's "majority of scientists" think is immaterial when only a very small fraction of them actually work in the climate field."

One additional item pointed out in this article:

Appearing before the Commons Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development last year, Carleton University paleoclimatologist Professor Tim Patterson testified, "There is no meaningful correlation between CO2 levels and Earth's temperature over this [geologic] time frame. In fact, when CO2 levels were over ten times higher than they are now, about 450 million years ago, the planet was in the depths of the absolute coldest period in the last half billion years." Patterson asked the committee, "On the basis of this evidence, how could anyone still believe that the recent relatively small increase in CO2 levels would be the major cause of the past century's modest warming?"

Patterson concluded his testimony by explaining what his research and "hundreds of other studies" reveal: on all time scales, there is very good correlation between Earth's temperature and natural celestial phenomena such changes in the brightness of the Sun.

Bottom line -- we don't hear this in the MSM, and Al Gore certainly isn't bringing these arguments to the table.

Though I can't put  my finge

Though I can't put  my fingers on it right now. One of the IPCC scientist is an MD. He is their expert on diseases to assess the spread of tropical diseases with warming.

One of the list of 60 non existing scientist that wrote to the Canadian PM is an MD specializing in malaria. His response. He never heard of the man. And when searching only found 2 or 3 papers dealing with malaria and they were minor. However he did note that the man has appeared as an expert on a number of occasions. Seems he has been presented as an expert on land mines. An expert on crash helmets. And now malaria and climate. I'm probably wrong of the number but I want to say he's been an expert 18 times. A well rounded expert.

None, not one, including yourself, of the AGW alarmists have ever answered Unsane's questions, and they are valid questions.  Please do answer them now.  And, I have asked a few questions that have never been answered.  Such as, assuming global warming is occurring, if it is anthropogenic in nature, why is there concurrent global warming occurring on Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Titan, Triton, and Pluto?  Now, SoG, what do all of these planets and moons have in common?  Have they all had industrial revolutions in the last 200 years?  Are all of them infested with North American white males maliciously driving gas guzzling SUVs?  Or, might it be that they all share the same sun which is putting out more energy lately?  If you decide to answer, kindly link to, or cite your sources.  Are you aware of the evidence that cosmic rays may have something to do with climate change?  You might wish to read this, this, and this.  Now, I realize that MIT, Stanford University, and the Canada Free Press might not have the prestige of the AMS in your eyes, but that doesn't mean they are wrong.

Would you and the other paranoid nutjobs kindly produce some evidence that the scientists who are skeptical of anthropogenic global warming are in fact paid shills of Big Oil, Big Coal, and Big Pollution?  With links and citations?

C'mon, SoG, answer the questions.  Engage in debate.  That is what you implied you wanted, wasn't it?  While we're at it, if global warming is happening, why is the total ice mass in Antarctica increasing?  Hmmmm?

Umm, emailing these guys takes guts why? Are they gonna kill our families or something if we dare to adopt a different opinion?

Liberalism is the philosophy of the stupid.

There is now clear evidence

There is now clear evidence that the mean annual temperature at the
Earth's surface, averaged over the entire globe, has been increasing in
the past 200 years.

Oh, you mean you're now claiming temperatures started "rising" BEFORE the Industrial Revolution had developed beyond England. Kinda odd that, to anyone with an ability to question what the establishment would have you believe.

Do tell me, where exactly where all the thermometers across the globe that took temperatures in 1707? To a tenth of a degree?

The report by the IPCC stated that the global mean temperature is projected to increase by 1.4°C-5.8°C in the next 100 years

Oh that's a precise figure. A variation of 4.5. Wow. Talk about hedging your bets. Hey maybe it's 0.2° to 10.9°.in the next 200 years.

That guess is as good as any other to "Meterologists" who can't forecast with ANY accuracy the climate in 14 days, using super-computers and "models."

Of course, the reason they won't guarantee predicting any further ahead is they have the disadvantage of us all being here to laugh at them if they should get it wrong. Which they would.

Guess all the "we're all doomed" merchant have the advantage of being able to make any crazy prediction 100 years ahead seeing they -- and us -- all all dead anyway.

And please, do tell us again how science is all about "consensus."

You're pathetic. But the reason you're pathetic is not because you happen to disagree with me, but because of your all-too typical lack of any critical faculty.

You believe everything that's spoon-fed to you by what may prove to be the biggest hoaxsters since Piltdown Man. And guess what, there was a consensus then too.

Jack Bauer:

All of the items you are attacking were not said by me.  They are on the American Meteorological Society website.  Here is the link.  The AMS is the licensing authority for all legitimate tv and radio weatherpeople.

You are very convincing.  I believe you.  You should package up your very intelligent questions and obsevations and send an email to the following people at the AMS and tell them how pathetic they are, since they wrote the words that you have eloquently debunked:

Richard Anthes President:  amspresident@ametsoc.org

Keith Seitter, Executive Director:  kseitter@ametsoc.org

Stephanie Knitzer, Public Relations:  kseitter@ametsoc.org

Jack,

Bauer

Bauer,

The point with the emails is...if you or someone else reading this truly want to engage in a meaningful discussion with someone, do it with an expert and influencer of policy...who has an opposing viewpoint.  Put your money where your collective mouth is.  If all of you Newsbusters out there think that AMS is wrong, tell them so.  Maybe you can teach them something...OR...maybe you would learn something by talking with a bona fide expert like the President of an important organization.  I emailed the Executive Director yesterday (as Danbo already knows) and he responded back to me within 30 minutes.  They are just people.  They would probably enjoy talking to you if you are polite...even if you disagree.  I don't think that is truly a terrible thing for me to suggest to you.

You asked for a paper Dr Sing

You asked for a paper Dr Singer wrote. I will repeate one I gave before. "What To Do About Greenhouse: Look Before You Leap".

He wrote it with Al Gore's mentor Roger Revelle. Who Gore credits in An Inconvenient Truth. Though Dr Revelle did believe in the greehouse effect he realized there may be some advantages in it and teamed up with Dr Singer and I believe Dr Starr to write it..

Unfortunately, Dr Revelle died soon after the paper was published. Al Gore who was then running for VP found it embarassing and 1st asked that Dr Revelles name be removed. Then when that didn't work they tried to slander Dr Singer. Claiming Dr Singer took advantage of a senile man. This went to court when Dr Singer got tired of it. So there's a legal paper trail.

That paper and it's story tells far more than your AMS.

Just as your link tells a lot more about you and your orientation.

Singer

Danbo,

Okay.  I looked it up.  The Singer paper you refer to was written in 1992!  Please, Danbo.  We didn't even have email back then.  Do you think that just maybe some knowledge has progressed since then?  Do you have anything that I can look at that was written within the past decade?

In case you missed it. The reason I gave you that particular paper had nothing to do with it's science. It has to do with someing far more troubling. Which is obviously above your head.

Think for yourself. Don't let others think for you

Are you saying, then, that you do no critical thinking of your own, but rather wait to see what the AMS will tell you to think? Sad.

Sort of like how our super-smart, AMS certified meterologists predicted a major snow event for San Antonio early last week, but somehow I knew better, because with my years of living here and access to the information they presented, I figured we wouldn't get any.  Sure enough, not a snowflake fell here (at least at my house) with trace amounts in other areas.  I guess I outsmarted a bunch of AMS certified scientists then, huh?

Real Estate Appraiser

No Bauer... I APPRAISE real estate.  I don't sell it.

In his dreams Jack

No, If you appraised real estate you would be putting reports together instead of bothering the class here on NB.  Work slow?  Be careful Shades, the same people you are pissing off here just might be reviewing your next report....be very careful.......

Acumen

Acumen,

Are you saying that nobody on this website has jobs?  I write appraisal reports about commercial property.  It is 9:00 pm here.  You also seem to insinuate that I am lying.  But I'll just let that go.

And I'm a Neurosurgeon Shades

"Are you saying that nobody on this website has jobs?"

You have trouble with the english language, don't you?  Now if you will carefully reread my comment (or have a child read it for you) you should understand it was addressed only to you.

"I write appraisal reports about commercial property."

No you don't.  First of all, based on your obvious trouble with the english language, you couldn't write an appraisal report on the estimated value of a piece of gum, much less a commercial property.  Second, as a "residential appraiser", which you claim to be, other than duplex, triplex and quads you are not legally allowed to appraise "commercial property" as you should well know.

"You also seem to insinuate that I am lying.  But I'll just let that go."

Got that one wrong too.  I'm not insinuating, I'm coming right out and calling you a liar whether you want to let it go or not.  Of the many appraisers I have dealt with on a daily basis for the last 10 years I have never heard one state, "I write appraisal reports."  They put together reports, they do appraisals, they appraise sites, they precomp, they estimate value but I've yet to hear any appraiser state, "I write appraisal reports".  Now we have one of three things going on here, you either lied about being a residential appraiser and have in the period of this thread promoted yourself to commercial (which in fact is called a General Appraiser - most real appraisers no that), you simply enter data for appraisers in reports or your lying about the whole deal.  Anyway, I don't care.  I've come to expect far worse from lying libs......

One final comment.  Actual Certified General/Residential  appraisers have a real problem with public confidence.  You are not helping that opinion with your inane comments on NB.  As someone in the industry I find that troublesome.

We're done.

Acumen

Acumen,

You sir, are crossing a line.  Attack my stance on global warming, because I have readily admitted I am not an expert.  I am a Registered Real Property Appraiser in a southeastern state.  I gather the data, write the report from beginning to end, then one of our Certified General partners reviews it, and we ship it out.  I am working towards my MAI.  I never said I was a residential appraiser.  I said I was a "real estate appraiser" because laymen understand that concept easier than me saying I am a Registered Real Property Appraiser.  I work in an office with a dozen other commercial appraisers, and we all say that we "write appraisals."  Back off.  Stick to the global warming topic.  Your personal attack is over the top.

When I want to get an opinion about a car, I ask a few mechanics.  If I want to get an opinion about how to cook a nice meal, I'll ask my friends who are chefs.  If I want to get an opinion about a medical condition with my children, I consult a pediatrician.  If I wonder about the general trends of weather, I look to mainstream sources, which if you were to ask 100 people on the street, 90 of them would say the Meteorology Society within their first three guesses.  The other two would be, um, well, who?  Unsane, what group of mainstream experts, in general terms, would you recommend for this topic?

Danbo,

You would first make up your mind that you wanted a Ford, and then ignore the 20 mechanics who tell you that Fords suck, but listen to the two who say Ford is the best.  I would ask myself who are the acknowledged experts in the industry, which would lead me to listen to those 20 mechanics who say that Ford sucks, I would consult Car and Driver magazine,  and check Consumer Reports, and then make up my mind.

You wouldn't bother to ask those who DRIVE them?  You know, people who might have more practical experience in dealing with them than others?

Asking a car mechanic is asking for a heavily biased answer.  And even if you did, you'd STILL have to form some sort of composite image out of a myriad of inputs.  At least use more than, say, Car and Driver and what X's Garage will tell you, because they just might not be telling you the whole story, willingly or unwillingly.

Besides, ever heard of "second opinions"?
