Gore's ‘Inconvenient Truth’ Nominated For an Academy Award

Certainly, it comes as no great surprise that this happened. However, reading it in print makes it all the more nauseating.

Former Vice President Al Gore’s schlockumentary about imminent doom to our planet if all Americans except for him and his liberal, hypocritical, millionaire friends don’t stop driving cars and flying on airplanes has been nominated for an Academy Award.

As reported by the Associated Press (h/t Drudge):

An Inconvenient Truth, former Vice President Al Gore’s film on global warming, was nominated today for an Academy Award for best documentary feature.

The movie will compete against Deliver Us From Evil, Iraq in Fragments, Jesus Camp, and My Country, My Country.

Will it be any surprise when this farcical political advertisement wins, and Al Gore is standing in front of all the fawning, cheering, hypocritical liberal elites who use likely ten times as much energy per year as the average American does?

I was gonna post this yesterday about Gore's Global Warming.

From the report above. (emphasis mine)

"The first phase of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is being released in Paris next week. This segment, written by more than 600 scientists and reviewed by another 600 experts and edited by bureaucrats from 154 countries, includes "a significantly expanded discussion of observation on the climate," said co-chair Susan Solomon..."

I feel so much better, already.

How come these scientists never get specific on exactly how much influence man has had on the climate? I don't think anyone can dispute that the earth is getting warmer. It has been for some time but what is causing it? I think that man has a much smaller role in it than these scientists will let on. I think thats why people like Heidi Cullen want to silence the debate all together.

So, I was assauged by the 'bureaucrats' reviewing the study(ies, ion, eology ?).

I'm always impressed by the number of mathematical breakthroughs we have got dependent upon by those brains in Venezuela. Did I mention France?

Further, the physicists and such.

Of course rail guns have nothing to do with this thread, but what the hey; they have everything to do with science.

I was going to post this in the Open later, but it seems appropo, from the same report:
"As confident as scientists are about the global warming effects that they've already documented, they are as gloomy about the future and even hotter weather and higher sea level rises. Predictions for the future of global warming in the report are based on 19 computer models, about twice as many as in the past, Solomon said. "(emphasis mine)

Computer models are not proof! So far, there hasn't been a 'puter model that has held up, mostly because there are too many variables, yet everyone takes these things as gospel, wrong word. Also there is the bias of the modeler, and how the data is interpreted for entry into the database.

There is no sense in being stupid, if you can't prove it! - my dad

Too many vairables and even m

Too many vairables and even more unknown variables! Not olny that, but it is a 'computer model' which means it needs to be programmed, and unless it is programmed by God (whom I am told controls the weather BTW), it will not be correct. It can also be programmed to give a desired result. I do not trust computer models especially for predicting weather/climate. The meteorologists can't predict the weather with even a 85% accuracy 3 days from now, so how the hell do people buy into the idea that scientists know what the climate will be like 3 years, 10 years, or 100 years from now?

Retarded!

Gun Safety Tip #8: No matter how responsible he seems, never give your gun to a monkey. (www.imao.us)

I gotta weigh in on the '19 computer models'.

I gotta weigh in on the '19 computer models'. Gee 2 times as many 'models' as in the past?

A quote from here:

"Scenarios of future concentrations of greenhouse gases are based on dubious assumptions about the future," the study observes. "These scenarios depend on other models of projected growth of population, economies, and energy use. Some projections are so dubious that MIT's Dr. Richard Lindzen, a lead author of one of the IPCC [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] science reports, has referred to them as 'children's exercises.'"

Now, what the guy (Dr. Lindzen) is actually saying is that the models (that would be all the models) are trying to replicate the climate. WHICH IS TOO COMPLICATED TO MODEL.

Duh.

Let me disclose here. I do computer models that rely on government supplied data from governments around the world about their economies; their GDP; their currencies; their populations; their WHO stats; their promulgated education stats; (you know, stuff)

A. The numbers are all silly junk.

B. The models are not very good.

C. The assumptions are refined or changed daily.

And that is just looking at 'static' data. Static means the data are fixed, snapshots of certain, self identified (that would be people like myself - can we say 'photoshopped' data?) and therefore useless, 'indicators' of what is important to our models.

So, when someone 'smarter' or more clever comes along and says, "Gee that data point is dumb."

Go figure.

The whole documentary category was disgusting and completely political. Even liberals who I know that liked Inconvenient Truth because of the message said it wasn't very good as far as entertainment or as film making goes. In addition to this totally political documentary, two of the others are unflattering portraits of Christians and the other two are against Americans in Iraq.

90% of the documentaries (especially the ones dealing with earth sciences and biological sciences) that I have ever seen have always had a political angle. The last 2 minutes of practically every PBS documentary is devoted to some ecological appeal.

Everyone wants Brazillian tree frogs to have a place to live, people are naturally sympathetic to little critters, so this creates an open door for charlatans to come in and use that sympathy to grab power.

I'd like to see a documentary on the political underpinings of the environmental movement...that would be worthwhile.

"Everyone wants Brazillian tree frogs to have a place to live.."

No, I don't.

"Everyone wants Brazillian tree frogs to have a place to live,..."

I want to rape and pillage the planet. I want to impress all the poor people, particularly the children, into salt and coal mines and burn the forests and sell off the ocean's fish.

I want to take all the money from the silly government 'regulatory' programs and put it into space research for our decendents of true Capitalistic Imperialism.

That way we can find another planet to go through after we finish with this one.

I agree that it's hard to keep politics out, but these movies are so blatant and some not even well made. There were plenty of good documentaries to choose from that were not only less political but just better quality like Wordplay (about NYT crossword puzzles), American Masters - Andy Warhol, and Once In A Lifetime (about Soccer) that all would have been better choices than most if not all of the nominations.

What a shame for your son. I thought the liberals loved "principled" civil disobedience. The school's actions against him make a mockery of leftist "ideology" and shows them for the hypocrites they are. It is part of the tryanny of educators which has infected our schools for decades. It also shows the incompetence of the teacher who obviously can't defend herself intellectually. But what's new about that? Most teachers are liberal, dull-witted lemmings. Congratultions to your son for showing courage.

With your guidance, your son will soon realize the true nature of the liberals. He'll learn to laugh at their stupidity and to see how predictable they are. He will also learn that liberals have never done anything right in the history of the world and that they need only be pitied for their immature, obvious ignorance. Al Gore Responsible for Global Warming

I would like to suggest that Al Gore is directly and personally responsible for global warming.

Think about how many computers are in use in the world today over just 10 or 15 years ago. Think about how much heat all those computers generate. Think about all the extra electricity that is needed to power those computers, which in turn generate greenhouse gasses.

What’s a major reason of private citizens buying computers?? Well to surf the internet of course!

And who is responsible for inventing the internet?? Well Al Gore of course!

Rules for The Documentary Awards

Mmm. "Emphasis on fact and not on fiction."

Rule Twelve
Special Rules for The Documentary Awards

I. DEFINITION
An eligible documentary film is defined as a theatrically released non-fiction motion picture dealing creatively with cultural, artistic, historical, social, scientific, economic or other subjects. It may be photographed in actual occurrence, or may employ partial re-enactment, stock footage, stills, animation, stop-motion or other techniques, as long as the emphasis is on fact and not on fiction.

Note: Michael Moore was on record with both Bowling for Colombine and F-911, in noting that they were op-ed, or satirical pieces - not journalism - not that journalism today requires honesty based on truth.

I wonder if anyone has ever asked Al Gore if he knows who is causing the shrinking polar caps on Mars? Since we now have had permanent probes monitoring the planet for the last 7 or 8 years, we have documented proof that the frozen co2 is melting on Mars. Unfortunately, the MSM will not report this story.

The Oscars are for stuck up left wing actors and acrtresses

In my opinion the Oscar Awards are for stuck up left wingers who like to make cheesy speeches and talk about how much they dislike anyone who doesn't have their left wing views. I try to make sure I don't like any of the movies that win, since they all seem like cheesy movies. I will admit I liked "Lord of the Rings" trilogy that won many awards, but most of the time I try to make sure I don't watch any of those movies. For example anyone remember all the fuss over "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" and how everyone just went crazy about what a great Kung Fu movie it was? Get real, the movie had subtitles and didn't have the British dudes from Hong Kong doing the voices. You want classic Kung Fu movies you go with "Five Deadly Venoms", "Kid With the Golden Arm" or "Chinese Super Ninjas" which all were awesome and had the dubbed voices.

And no way does "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" beat Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon". I bet none of the left wingers on the nominating committee ever watched Kung Fu Theater on USA channel.

I think "Usual Suspects" may have won some awards too, but I will let that slide as it is an all time classic. I might be wrong though as I don't ever follow what movie wins. And if the "Road Warrior" won any awards it was well deserved too, and I would let that slide too, as that is the greatest movie of all time.

Also I can't remember what year "Used Cars" came out, but all of the actors and actresses from that movie were much better than whoever won an Oscar. In fact Jack Warden's perfomance in that was one of the best of all time. I can't remember what year "Phantasm" came out, but Angus Scrimm as the big Lurch looking bad dude, was much better than whoever won the Best Actor Award.

"Poison clan rocks the world"

For you, Carl."You play

For you, Carl.

"You play a good game boy, but the game is finished, now you die."

As for "Used Cars", who could forget the great performance by Joe Flaherty?

Thanks for the links

I think Joe Flaherty's lines were pretty much "Roy you can't do that" throughout the movie. "Used Cars" had an awesome cast. Lenny and Squiggy were great, and don't forget Grandpa Munster was the judge. Whoever the guy was that played Jeff was brilliant. Kurt Russell was extremly funny, but the performance by Jack Warden has to be one of the all time great performances of all time. I cry laughing sometimes just thinking about his character as Roy L Fuchs.

"I'll tell you something. This country is going to the dogs. You know, it used to be when you bought a politician, that s.o.b. stayed bought." Roy L Fuchs

The Academy probably does alr

The Academy probably does already have at least one Oscar already waiting for the wooden indian. Of course, "Brokeback Mountain" failing to win Best Picture last year was a nice surprise. But that piece of garbage did win 3 other Oscars so Algore's hot air "film" probably will too. This is the guy who said, "It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it" and "For NASA, space is still a high priority." Boy what a brilliant scientific mind he has! And I guess his statement, "I stand by all the misstatements that I've made" applies to "Inconvenient Truth" as well. After all, as Mr. Bore has also stated, "A leopard doesn't change its stripes." Boy he also has a keen knowledge of nature and the animal kingdom too!
