Weather Bulletin - Denver
WEATHER BULLETIN
Up here, in the "Mile-Hi City", we just recovered from a Historic event--- may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands.
FYI:
George Bush did not come.
FEMA did nothing.
No one howled for the government.
No one blamed the government.
No one even uttered an expletive on TV.
Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit.
Our Mayor did not blame Bush or anyone else.
Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else, either. CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC did not visit - or report on this category 5 snowstorm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards.
No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House.
No one looted.
Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something. Nobody expected the government to do anything, either. No Larry King, No Bill O'Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera.
No Shaun Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Hollywood types to be found. Nope, we just melted the snow for water.
Sent out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars. The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask for a penny.
Local restaurants made food and the police and fire departments delivered it
to the snowbound families.
Families took in the stranded people - total strangers.
We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns.
We put on extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die".
We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for
'sittin at home' checks.
Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves.
"In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets north of about 48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world's social problems evaporate."
It does seem that way, at least to me.
I hope this gets passed on.
Maybe SOME people will get the message. The world does NOT owe you a living.

January 16, 2007 - 13:41 ET by Jerry MackFox news did cover the avalance. Even had avalance experts.
It is quite obvious that the difference between Colorado and Mississippi versus Louisiana is competency. The incompetency of the state of Louisiana and the city of New Orleans was apparent from day one of the disaster. The msm did a good job of covering for Blanco and Nagin.
I think this was from South Dakota or North Dakota
January 16, 2007 - 17:23 ET by Carl KolchakI remember seeing this email soon after Katrina after a blizzard hit South or North Dakota. I live in Denver and experienced the blizzard, and I don't recall 90 mph winds, or 44 inches of snow. It was extremly windy and snowy, but nothing we haven't seen before. Back in 82 or 83, there was a blizzard like this around Christmas, and people are prepared to deal with blizzards here. What was amazing is that everyone wanted to blame the snow plow crews for everything. The snow plows would drive down a street and plow a street, and then with the snow and the intense wind within a few minutes everything would be covered again and it would look as if they didn't plow. You also had the police blockade entries to the interstate and people would drive by the blockades and go onto the interstate. This is after the mayor and the governor had delcared states of emergenicies and were advising people not to go out unless an emergency. Also there is a highway that links Denver and Boulder in which countless cars had to be abandoned. Also, throughout Denver countless cars were abandoned in lanes where the snow plows go. The snow plows can't plow until those cars are moved. Then the new shows would interview someone who lived on a 10 foot street, and they would complain about the fact the snowplows hadn't plowed their ten foot street. People were driving with bald tires trying to go up hills, and ended up going the wrong way down streets and other things. We also didn't have power lines go down or have large power outages in the city that I recall. Now a big dilema this city has it that the airport is outside the city, and to get there you go down a road that is very susceptible to wind. Once the high wind and snow combine, that road is very treacherous. Denver International Airport then shutdown and had over 3,000 people stranded there. This is the same dilema that always seems to happen with a blizzard. "Rocky Mountain High, Colorado" John Denver
I'm not crazy about the locat
January 17, 2007 - 03:05 ET by UnsaneI'm not crazy about the location of the new airport either, having lived in Denver when Stapleton was very much in existence. In fact the new airport was proposed when I was living there back in the mid-1980s. A massive tornado touched down for 18 minutes back on 2 July 1987 and put on a show for the Denver area and did no damage as it touched down in a field; but as I recall that field is where the airport is today. So, Carl, as I suspect you are a longtime Denver resident, do you like the new airport, or did you prefer Stapleton when it was open?

January 17, 2007 - 10:39 ET by Carl KolchakYeah, I preferred Stapleton too. The road to DIA can get extremly treacherous during high wind and snow, and it isn't lit very well I don't think. I'll tell you a fun discussion you can have about DIA is all the conspiracy theories and New World Order theories as well. I don't know about all of that, but there are some really whacked out murials that I can't figure out why are located there. I would imagine an international airport would want to promote the beauty of the mountains, but there are some murials depicting a Darth Vader/Nazi looking dude oppressing people, and then kid's in coffins, and then the kid's start a new world and one of the kid's has an iron fist. That is a fun discussion we can table for one night when I can stay up late and talk for a long time on the internet.

For Mr. Kolchak again
January 20, 2007 - 14:08 ET by UnsaneI didn't see the murals, but when I last flew to Denver as the final destination, I remember my first drive down Pena Boulevard very well. That road is pitch black like the ace of spades! I don't remember there being ANY lighting on it until I hit I-70 and drove into town. (That and my initial entry to the street from the rental car location.) That and it took one hell of a long time just to get to I-70. I can only begin to imagine what it is like in icy/windy conditions.
