How do you know when someone's gone off the deep end of the liberal pool? When she manages to outdo Keith Olbermann at the art of invective.
On this evening's Countdown, Olbermann and Arianna Huffington were discussing Joe Lieberman's support of President Bush's Iraq policy. Olbermann's opening bid was to suggest, given Lieberman's backing of traditional Dem positions on ethics and global warming and the fact that "he could give the Senate to the GOP if he feels crossed or just feels like it," that the independent Democratic senator from CT was a "necessary evil" from the Dems' viewpoint.
"Necessary evil"? Was that weak beer the best Keith could do? Arianna easily trumped Olbermann's opprobrium: "this is like somebody having a horrible disease and looking at some positive side-effect. Like having terminal cancer and saying 'but, I'm losing weight in the process.'"
Now that's what I call calumny. Class gal, that Arianna.

Well yeah, they can't be more than 7 or 8.
I said miners, not minors.

January 13, 2007 - 07:03 ET by Indiana JoeIt's going to be interesting to watch the liberals self-destruct. They've built a "coalition" of disparate, one-issue voters. There is no over-arching principle that ties them together, except nanny-statism and a fondness for litigation to get what they can't get through the democratic process. This coalition was sufficient to howl after the Republicans in harmony. Now that they have the wheel, each group of this balkanized party will try to go in a different direction, according to their own monolithic issue.
They already tried to "eat" Lieberman, and failed miserably. Now he, or any Democrat Senator, represents a "tie-breaker." Yet these boneheads attack him. Not the smartest move, politically. Lieberman broke out of lock-step on a couple of issues, and they just can't stand that. The "party of tolerance" clearly won't tolerate anyone who doesn't toe the line. In their case, the line is movable: it's whatever each group says it is, to advance their single-issue agenda.
Now, Rangel and Pelosi are mixing it up. Rangel's agenda is RANGEL, and he's miffed that Pelosi tried to cut him out as new Ways and Means chairman, bypassing HIS committee to push the "100 hours" agenda. He couldn't care less about the agenda, he's just into the power he now wields, and the "respect" he feels he now deserves. Hardly a "team player," apparently.
The cracks are starting to show already. Like I said, it's going to be interesting.
Get comfy, and pass the popcorn, please ... ;^)

Bread, Circuses and no personal responsibility, its the Libertine Party. That's the overarching principle, the Seven Deadly Sins. I wouldn't underestimate iniquity's grip, and it eventually takes everyone in the same direction. As long as these disparate groups think that the Democrat "Party" holds the potential to satisfy their lust, avarice, sloth, wrath, envy, gluttony, and pride, the motley collection of groups on the Left will support the "Party". And they don't even see the inevitable chains that wait at the end of that road.

January 13, 2007 - 18:17 ET by Indiana JoeTen7s,
Well, I'll agree that "Bread, Circuses and no personal responsibility, its the Libertine Party," is an apt characterization of the Democrats. I'm still not convinced that's enough to hold these people together, however. I take their treatment of Lieberman as evidence that they're more than willing to run over anyone who doesn't exactly follow their narrow vision(s). To use an analogy, a crew that throws enough of their officers overboard eventually becomes a leaderless, ineffective rabble. But only time will tell. If they CAN hold together, well, '08 may be a tougher fight than we're hoping for.
Either way, it will be interesting to see how it all comes out. I still think (or maybe just hope?) they'll fall apart.
And just btw, I'm truly impressed you can list the Seven Deadly Sins... I have enough trouble remembering the Seven Deadly Dwarves... ;^)

And this represents news!? Is this what mainstream media has been reduced to? Opinion masquerading as objective journalism. One can comment on the merits of Lieberman's positions, but why not give the average joe who might happen to tune in a chance. I haven't got a clue about what she's talking about.
A real news program would state positions Lieberman has taken and show him making various statements. Then let the viewer decide on the merits of his arguments. Sadly, Olbermann fails in this capacity.

You are a small time blogger who would like to think you have tons of influence but the only influence you have is with your cronies on the far-left. God, when I listen to this woman it's like fingernails across a chalkboard. She's insane and so are the people who give her any kind of credit. She's either very naive or just plain stupid.

Tarnish and de-value the brand name
January 13, 2007 - 14:28 ET by Jonah JohansenIt is amazing that the family that runs NYT would permanently tarnish and throw away the Times brand name for short term political gain.
What is inexplicable is that the executives at GE would let their underlings at NBC trash the NBC News brand name. The single most valuable asset NBC News has is the publics trust. Olberman, Gregory and Matthews are systematically destroying whatever credibility NBC may have had.
I heard the news director from ABC on his book tour, talking about how none of the network news departments know how they are going to make money in the future, as the public turns to the internet and other new technologies.
My theory is, that they hope their partnership with the Democratic Party will lead to Government regulations and policies that protect their monopolies and marginalize their competition.

January 13, 2007 - 20:46 ET by GalvanicThese two are still miffed that their boy Lamont defeated Lieberman in the Democratic primary --- thanks in no small part to a lot of out of state contributions and the backing of Schumer's DSCC --- but got slaughtered in the election. Lieberman is testament to the power of the public to subsume the power of Move.On.org and the Left boggers. So, by earning their collective wrath, he is now equated to a "terminal cancer," even though he still a member of the Democratic Party.

of frank anti-Semitism and proud hatred towards President Bush that is

too much free time on their hands, but when I see the type of rhetoric spewing

realization that these people are not an aberration within the Democratic party…they
are the mainstream.
