In a story about politically indexed mutual funds the Gray Lady notes:
Two funds started recently by Blue Investment Management, a New York fund company that is less than a year old, will limit their holdings to companies that donate the majority of their political contributions to Democrats...
What isn't mentioned is that one of the companies that the Blue Fund finds slanted far enough to the Democratic side of the aisle to invest in is...the New York Times Company (CBS, too).

Oh doesn't this just figure..
January 8, 2007 - 15:47 ET by bigtimerOh doesn't this just figure...nary a word will be mentioned in the msm, it isn't sexy enough...the stockholders must be dem's, if they were conservatives, they couldn't be that dumb....only the stock-market shows would mention any of this, or Cavuto...what is a person suppose to do.
Wait a second, I forgot about profits...CBS, shows like Jeopardy that has joined hands openly as of last year with the NYT's....
Yeah, bring in the sunshine, let people out here in the real world know what you are investing in....sure...there is no bias....none, zilch...blah blah blah.
I will remember the Co.'s mentioned in the article, but then again, I already knew that most were leftist Co.'s anyway, so it doesn't surprise me that they are contributors, wonder if investors do, or care?
Bet we see a big front page editorial on this subject in the NYT's tomorrow...eh?

January 8, 2007 - 15:56 ET by Eric TurnerHey Al,
Apparently the Fund (the Blue Fund) was inspired by BuyBlue.org. Or at least BuyBlue claims. Now according to BuyBlue the NYT hasn't given any political donations.
For whatever it's worth.

Interesting idea, did anyon
January 8, 2007 - 16:05 ET by james789Interesting idea, did anyone read my posting in Fridays open thread about the Gates foundation?
No good deed goes unpunished. The Gates foundation, which thanks to
Warren Buffett, now has more money than the GDP of 70 percent of the
worlds countries (194? X 70%=135 countries) is coming under attack for
the way it conducts itself concerning its investments.
Dark cloud over good works of Gates Foundation
It appears that the foundation is making financial gains from investments
that contravene its good works. One example given in the story.
The Gates Foundation has poured $218 million into polio and measles
immunization and research worldwide, including in the Niger Delta. At
the same time that the foundation is funding inoculations to protect
health, The Times found, it has invested $423 million in Eni, Royal
Dutch Shell, Exxon Mobil Corp., Chevron Corp. and Total of France
— the companies responsible for most of the flares blanketing the
delta with pollution, beyond anything permitted in the United States or
Europe.
Other tidbits I found interesting from the story,
In addition, The Times found the Gates Foundation endowment had major holdings in:
• Companies ranked among the worst U.S. and Canadian
polluters, including ConocoPhillips, Dow Chemical Co. and Tyco
International Ltd.
• Many of the world's other major polluters, including
companies that own an oil refinery and one that owns a paper mill,
which a study shows sicken children while the foundation tries to save
their parents from AIDS.
• Pharmaceutical companies that price drugs beyond the reach of AIDS patients the foundation is trying to treat.
Using the most recent data available, a Times tally showed that
hundreds of Gates Foundation investments — totaling at least $8.7
billion, or 41% of its assets, not including U.S. and foreign
government securities — have been in companies that countered the
foundation's charitable goals or socially concerned philosophy.
Plus a whole lot more interesting things things.
The Blue Fund is talking the talk, I'll wager they don't walk the walk.
The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price,
peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of
soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life.

Gates came along out of now
January 8, 2007 - 22:30 ET by JDWGates came along out of nowhere with an idea which paved the way for a new generation of computer technology. The older, larger, slower, more expensive was buried. One day someone will do the same with energy and goodbye 'charitable investments'.
