The entry previously posted at this address incorrectly asserted that the Capitol Hill switchboard was being used to promote liberal health insurance legislation. It is not being used for that purpose.
The telephone number referenced in this post originally is owned by a liberal lobbying organization, not the U.S. Capitol switchboard. We regret the error.

Wow!
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 02:06 ET by TeamcheeserWow! This is big. I need a moment to think, actually.
Wow.
Someone should go to jail over this.
Is this brazen or just stupid?
No! No!
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 06:41 ET by GeneralAlNo! No! Teamcheese! You've Got it wrong! You don't go to jail for this! You go to jail for getting information out of terrorist who want to kill us! If you subject these snakes to a little college hazing, you get accused of torture and get sent to prison with a dishonorable discharge! But when it comes to the Democrats taring apart the Constitution, why thats just for your own good but you just don't appreciate it!
Why is this story removed from front page?
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 09:33 ET by dronetekI just noticed you guys removed this story from the front page, as well as the phone number. Whats the deal?
Recorded on mine.
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 04:04 ET by rmbltmblRecorded on mine.
Well.. The NEA should be making propaganda.. why not the receptionist?
Decided to ask the switchboard if they had any knowledge of this number, which I recorded(poorly), and once the number was given there was an immediate distinction from the operator about the issue.. the call declines to let me know where to send you from there instead of a solid, "that 800 number is forwarding to us."
Quite plausible.
AND GO IL!
Never having called congress
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 02:29 ET by Dan The Man 2Never having called congress what is normally heard? It seems to me this is patently illegal. One thing to call the President it is another to call congress and get this pap.

Sun, 09/27/2009 - 03:25 ET by DustBunny01What I would like to know is who signed off on this?
Was it the House Leadership or the White House? If it was the White House, is this not a violation of separation of powers?
However, it was probably Nancy, Harry or a member of their staffs and if that is the case, then it is simply business as usual for a party that claims to speak for everyone and anyone who doesn't agree should not speak.
Just called them and spoke to the operator
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 03:46 ET by dydxShe agreed that the message was inappropriate. She said she couldn't note the complaint, so I had her transfer me to my representative (in this case, John Campbell). I left a message with him.
Good thing these guys really believe they have a mandate. Makes them drop their guard and give themselves enough rope.
Hopefully MSM will hang too if they don't cover this. Well, one could always hope.
dydx,
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 04:27 ET by AgnosticThe operator I talked to was still nice but it was obvious that she had talked several times to people asking about the message. I just thanked her and sent e-mails to the Senators and my Representative as well Minority and Majority leaders.
It's too early to deal with this type of government theft of property belonging to the people. I don't care who has done it before or what the rationalization is going to be - This was wrong.

Sun, 09/27/2009 - 06:35 ET by winston smithI think so. They know the media is behind them nearly 100% and wouldn't even attempt to make a national story out of it -- which it absolutely should be. That's why Obama can take brazen actions like this -- he knows if his msm allies refuse to create a national story about it, he is once again free to abuse the system. Besides, the msm has more important things to do, like spying on Bristol Palin or musing on Trig Palin's parentage all while practically ignoring video of Ashley Biden snorting coke or threatening a police officer with violence and obstructing justice. Who cares that the administration is abusing governement on an hourly basis and making a mockery of the Constitution wherever possible when those detestable Palins and "teabaggers" are out there every day free to offer their unauthorized alternative opinions of the media-endorsed government-run healthcare!

Sun, 09/27/2009 - 06:23 ET by P.J. GladnickUNBELIEVABLE! It's one thing to read about this but when I called and actually HEARD the message with my own ears it was surreal. I mean this is the U.S. Congress, not the DNC.
I urge EVERYBODY to call that phone number just for the experience of hearing that political message on a line meant for all citizens. It's quite educational experience.
Do it and I really expect this to become major news today...I hope.

Sun, 09/27/2009 - 06:40 ET by P.J. GladnickI just checked Google and so far nothing in the media about this. It will be interesting to see how soon this amazing story is picked up by the news media and where. Drudge Report? It is certainly worthy of a headline there.

It all depends on who is paying for the call . . Families USA or the taxpayer.
Families USA
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 08:49 ET by P.J. GladnickYou might be right. Phone number is for Families USA, a pro-ObamaCare organization which I think is the source of the message, then it switches to Capitol Hill Switchboard.

Sun, 09/27/2009 - 07:16 ET by ConservativeRexI just got home from work and called the number "we can no longer wait for lower cost..blah, blah, blah"...
Some heads need to roll over this BS!!
I suppose we'll see all kinds of propaganda similar to this in the coming 3 years. Obama's picture painted on abandoned factory walls, posters, billboards. The usual fascist material. The question remains: How much longer are we willing to put up with this? We all know this is wrong to our very cores. We don't have to convince any of the doubters that it's wrong. They'll never be convinced. I suppose we can wait till 2010, but no longer!

Sun, 09/27/2009 - 07:53 ET by FenwickWow - this is simply stunning in its audacity. I am going through my "Road to Serfdom" book by F.A. Hayek, dog-earring pages that are relevant to what is happening today... and practically every page is so marked that the book will not fully close!
Particularly eye-opening is the chapter "The End of Truth": http://books.google.com/books?id=qg61T_I1mwsC&pg=PA171&lpg=PA171&dq=haye.... Indoctrination is subtle and far-reaching.

He may already have it....I have suspected for quite a while that Fox has someone who reads NB regularly as a source, because I'll read something posted here, and then within about twelve hours it will be picked up on Fox. Also, Brent Bozell and certain other MRC staff are regular commentators on Fox....maybe it is a more formal relationship, who knows?
So thanks! I'd love to see the back-pedal on this one, because once it becomes generally known, the MOB is going to be MAD!

Sun, 09/27/2009 - 08:07 ET by PewahIt was almost surreal to listen to, wasn't it?! It is absolutely a biased message pushing for the current administration's health care agenda. No one person should fall on their sword for this abuse of resources. It is obvious that many persons would have been involved in order to get an obviously professional recording and get it approved for this use.
This is disgusting. That phone system was set up to serve the people...all the people, not just the socialist goons currently occupying the White House.
Custodian's Fault
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 08:25 ET by P.J. GladnickNo one person should fall on their sword for this abuse of resources.
No, it was all the Capitol Hill custodian's fault. He accidentally placed that tape into the Capitol Hill answering machine. Nancy and Harry had absolutely nothing to do with that recording. Go it? It's all the fault of that rogue custodian. BLAME HIM!
that custodian
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 08:49 ET by candancewas a volunteer anyway. He usually required supervision but on the night this happened his boss had left to go somewhere, leaving the custodian to his own devices.
He is obviously fired, but we're suing you anyway.

This isn't unusual.
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 08:48 ET by pbthinkerWhen you govern, like a community organizer, these are the things you do. The Democrats are using any tool they can use. With the sycophant media, they don't have to worry about being called on these things until they've been implemented and then all they have to do is remove the message and all will be forgotten. The Democrats will never have a "My Pet Goat" moment where a lie can be perpetuated for years, when things are serious, the press will bury it.

Judas Priest! Give it a rest, Obama. No one wants your health care bill, ANY iteration that has down the pike.
How about this? Remove all existing regulation that forbids insurance being sold across state lines, no more insurance monopolies, and remove all disqualifications for pre-existing conditions.
We'll see how things go from there. Thoroughly assess it after a year. What's the rush?
UPDATE: Just sent an e-mail to my extreme and partisan Democrat Representative in Congress. We'll see if I receive a response. Doubt it. My Representative should be undergoing an exhautive investigation of her highly questionable activities as it is!

FamiliesUSA
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 09:21 ET by P.J. GladnickThe recording is by FamiliesUSA which makes it sound like you have called Capitol Hill by thanking the caller for calling their representative. Then it automatically forwards the caller to Capitol Hill switchboard. Not sure how ethical that is but recording originates from FamiliesUSA, a pro-ObamaCare organization. No mention in the recorded message about FamiliesUSA at all.
Sounds like impersonation of a Capitol Hill switchboard.

Answer
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 09:22 ET by jaywlI called and waited for a human to answer. I asked if the operator could tell me who put the message on the system. After asking if I called the "800" number she replied "We don't know, you came through some lobbyist's group, their number." Actually this is true. The Examiner has a story here http://www.examiner.com/x-9100-Boston-Conservative-Independent-Examiner~.... No good deceiving lying dog-kicking left winging Obamanuts do this to us!
Lobbyist #
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 09:23 ET by kiwikitOperator told me than all capital hill numbers are not 800. This number reaches some lobbyist who puts on a shilling-health-deformity message and then transfers to the capital. No word about which lobbyist. BTW I love the description of the Canadian Health Care soon to be copied here: all citizens have a right to a position in the wait list for health care!
Is that Legal?
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 09:24 ET by SparkyVAIs that legal is not the question asked in Democratic circles. Nor is the question asked "Should we do it?"
The only question asked in these circles of power is "Can we do it?". The next question on the table will be what can be done about the misuse of free speech to oppose our magnificent plan for the US and the world. All suggestions are welcomed...

You really need to take more
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 11:39 ET by Average_JoeMNYou really need to take more care when it comes to posting stuff like this. A lot of people depend on your accuracy and post links to it on places like Facebook, etc. When you're wrong there is a ripple effect of credibility. Simple things like this cause you to lose several points in the credibility index, something you can't afford to lose given what you do.
I'm sure they weren't aware of that until you told them.
Sun, 09/27/2009 - 13:03 ET by TailgunnerThanks for sharing this.
Nationalized Healthcare is a DEATH SENTENCE.

Loss of credibility?
Mon, 09/28/2009 - 07:05 ET by BlueCat57Let's see. I've been on NB several years. During that time they have published several THOUSAND articles pointing out the errors of the MSM. They make ONE mistake, correct it the next day and don't print the actual reason they were "duped" accepting full responsibility for the error, and they lose credibility?
OK, so now we all know. The Capital Hill switchboard does NOT use toll-free numbers (800, 877, et al). We should discuss why not since making us pay toll charges to reach our representatives seems like double taxation. Yes, I recognize the obvious flaws in that statement.
We also know that the lobbying firm used a deceptive message and automatically transferred the call to THE Capital Hill switchboard. So NB is guilty of believing someone, calling the number, hearing exactly what they were told was happening and not knowing that the Capital Hill switchboard doesn't use toll-free numbers. Geez, they're dumb. Let's ignore everything they say from now on. They must be wrong about the thousands of others things they've written about.
And is it capitAl or capitOl? Should you dismiss my entire comment simply because I didn't get that right?
PS - Be sure to go to the Examiner article linked below.
PPS - Great job NB for correcting your error so promptly.
