Politico Reports Palin's a Thud at NRSC Dinner, all Others Say She Was a Hit

  • Bookmark and Share

Reports on Governor Sarah Palin's appearance at the National Republican Senatorial Committee dinner in D.C. on Monday nearly all mention that she was quite the center of attention with dinner attendees. Well, all agree with that characterization but Politico's Alex Isenstadt, that is. Isenstadt seems to have been the only one to report that her attendance was a dud. This spurred our friend Videmus Omnia to wonder if Isenstadt went to the same dinner as everyone else? After looking it over, I have to ask the same question.

For Politico, Isenstadt snorted that Palin's appearance at the dinner "went little-noticed." He also stated that, "If she hadn't walked quickly across the stage the outset and if her presence hadn’t been mentioned briefly in the remarks of some of the evening's speakers, it would have been hard to know that she had, in fact, shown up." So there you have it. No one cared a whit that Governor Palin attended the dinner.

But wait. A perusal of other media accounts says just the opposite.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

For CNN, Peter Hamby's piece is headlined "Palin center of attention at big GOP dinner," and just the headline alone seems to argue against Politico's characterization of Palin's dinner flop.

Palin did not speak at the event, but during a break in the program for dinner, Republicans clustered around the former vice presidential nominee's table near the front of the ballroom, eager to meet the governor and pose for pictures.

It was the only table in the vast ballroom that had a crowd gathered around it -- and despite their distance from Palin's table, multiple television cameras kept their lenses trained on the governor for much of the night.

CNN's report stands in stark contrast with the dour version of events promulgated by Politico, doesn't it?

As to another account, even while digging at her, US News reports that she was surrounded by well wishers at the dinner.

Several Washington Republicans contacted by Whispers said that Palin was quick to leave the Senate-House Dinner, apparently ignoring a line of those who wanted to meet her.

Whether she left fans hanging or not, this does not speak to any possibility that she "went little-noticed" as Politico reported. If there were "40 people standing around her" as US News reports, that does not speak to being "little-noticed," for sure.

Even Dana Milbank noticed that Palin "stole the spotlight" at the dinner.

The focus, meanwhile, was on a table in the first row, where a certain governor was holding court. During dinner, all the television cameras trained their lenses on Palin, her image grainy across the room. Dozens of well-wishers clustered around her table in the first row, for a chance to have a photo taken with her.

Not only that, but Milbank also mentions that Senator John Cornyn (R, TX) thanked Palin for attending in the opening moments of his own comments. His few words following her name were drowned out by thunderous applause, too. So, even if all that other activity went "little-noticed" then the Senator alerted everyone to her presence.

This all seems to say rather the opposite of Palin going "little-noticed" at the event, in any case.

So, what is Politico's Isenstadt doing here? Why is he so obviously misreporting what went on concerning Governor Palin's appearance at the NRSC dinner? Your guess is as good as mine, at some point.

I love the fact that Palin

I love the fact that Palin scares these liberal twits so much that they have to patently lie when they write about her.

Politico

Why does anyone read it?  It's just WASHINGTON POST redux.  This is a perfect example of the MSM presenting THEIR stories rather than the news.  Is it her beauty that they hate?  Is it her honesty?  or is it the fact that she didn't abort her children?  If they're not lying about her (she's come clean in 14 suits against her ethics) they're making fun of her little darling Willow.  And they say we're haters!   Noone can come close to the vicious hatred liberals have shown this lovely lady starting with perky Katie.  I couldn't be happier with her new low in ratings.  She deserves every dropped viewer.

Especially...

about something as unimportant as this event. She wasn't even involved but yet was compelled (maybe ordered) to lie about it.

its like waking up in the morning, sitting at the breakfast table, shielding your eyes from the sun in the window and then looking at your family and saying "Nope, the sun didn't come up today. It just didn't. It decided to stay down...really..it did...really really."

"You see Obama is going to tax those not paying taxes...those making over 97,000 dollars ayear. Once you make that much you don't pay taxes...he's going to make them pay. And I will finally get a break." -My mom who is on welfare and food st

Politico=Liberalco?

Maybe they should just change the name to fit the stories the seem to be putting out.

here are a couple other possible choices for a name change

demaco, marxico, facisco, sanfrancisco, delmonico (oh wait thats a steak) strike that last one

Politico trust?

If it's so easy to lie about something like this, when there are photographs, television recordings, and first-hand accounts describing just the opposite.....

What else does the Politico lie about with such ease?

And why would anyone trust anything the Politio writes about in the future? I hope Newsbusters doesn't fall into the trap of "forgetting" about this the next time it reports on anything within the Politico, and tries to convince us that the Politico is telling the truth. It isn't. And it doesn't.

Liberals constantly demand that we accept a glaring falsehood as truth; Obama's elimination of the word "terror" will make terrorist acts less terrifying

Politico is in love with Obama so they hate Sarah

Obama never criticizes The One. He has his own blog over there (I've heard anyway) and my one hope is that he looks at the comments of his dissenters and his blood pressure rises.

Sarah will always be hated by Obamabots. Sarah is everything they aren't: bright, gorgeous, patriotic, having a love for God and family and country.

If she doesn't get

If she doesn't get destroyed by the left and msm (same thing)...she's a greta hope for 2012...

The left just sees her as such a threat, there must be something there...

Re something there

You know, if I was on-the-fence over Palin, the fact that she strikes terror into the democratics means that their internal polling and analyses tell them that she is a threat. That makes me more likely to vote for her because above all I want to win.

Yet another example of

Yet another example of Liberalism: the mental disorder. I know quite a few liberals and they range from perfectly sane people to these raving nutcases. Just as some (albeit fewer) conservatives are off the deep end.

But, generally these far, far lefties are simply unable to process the truth even when they witness it with their own eyes. I really believe that they see what they want to see, and cannot accept that they could be wrong.

It's how they can overlook the trauma that their president is causing to our country, society and even the world. The TRUTH is not nearly as important as the confirmation of their own beliefs. It is sick - truly.

She is a rock star to be sure

but: politico obviously lies in its story....
In one day pundits use: slutty, herpes, needle in the eye, etc
(for an elected official, in good standing no less vs Spitzer, Blago etc)

Just when one thought BDS was one for the ages, Palin Derangement Syndrome takes leftie mental illness to record! levels.
Does anyone understand this, and why doesnt this level of rudeness towards a sitting FEMALE Governor take on a life of its own in the MSM?
It really is incredible to watch this true example of hate speech unfold, all that is missing is the starched brownshirts (and this is no hyperbole).

Does anyone know?

Does she have an active site where one can donate to her cause?

Well...

Well, here is Sarahpac.

Politico proves once again

That the only reason to read the site is if you are a liberal looking for confirmation of your ideology.

How many liberal sites like the NYT, WaPo, DailyKOS, politico, etc...are needed? Most of them simply cross-post "stories" from the others anyway.

Hey, I got the wrong "CHANGE"!

Is there a psychologist in

Is there a psychologist in the house?  These Leftists must have some deep-seated emotional problem with attractive women who aren't sleaze merchants.  It must be some form of misogyny combined with a complex stemming from some childhood trauma, or something....  Either that or they're just shallow-minded a$$holes.

Why the media can't be a referee

Strategy is when you decide what you do, based on what you expect other people to do. Therefore, the success of your strategy depends on the reliability of your information about what everyone else is going to do.

The media claims to reliably convey what everyone else is thinking. But time after time, and on every page of NewsBusters, we see that they're NOT a reliable source of information. They present only the news that supports their agenda.

  • Gay marriage is a classic example. Polls show that the majority are against it. Every time it comes up for a public vote, the voters reject it.
  • And yet, the media's coverage is a determined effort to convince the public that gay marriage is inevitable.
  • They're actively trying to persuade the public, by reporting only positive stories about gay marriage, and refusing to publish anything against it, that everyone else thinks that gay marriage is OK. But the numbers are ckearky against it.

The other night, Charlie Rose invited David Boies on to discuss gay marriage. Boies is a great lawyer - he's incredibly persuasive, and he's a respectful gentleman. I respect the guy enormously. But Boies is in favor of gay marriage, and he's mounting a legal challenge in favor of it. In their discussion, Rose asked Boies why anyone would oppose gay marriage. Boies answered that he didn't see any legal basis for opposition, and that the only explanation must be "orientation prejudice."

Think about that. Charlie Rose asked the plaintiff's lawyer to describe the defense's case.

  • The plaintiff's lawyer could only offer an allegation of blind prejudice.
  • Rose didn't challenge the allegation.
  • No one from the other side was invited to defend.
  • Boies had a free platform to make his case, unchallenged.

By any standard, that's unfair. What disturbs me about that is that I actually like Rose and Boies very much. But in that case, they were completely biased, and they exploited the power of a broadcast to influence a public issue. The media is dangerous, even when the broadcasters are usually honest gentlemen.

When Politico first came out...

I thought it was going to be "Fair and Balanced".  I have since learned that it is nothing of the kind.  It is the "Web" equivalent of Time or Newsweek.  I don't read Time or Newsweek and therefore I will not be reading Politco.  Jim Webster

Re Politico

Yes, we all had high hopes for Politico, but it's just another annoyingly-liberal media outlet.

If Sarah Palin is SO silly and irrelevant, why the obsession?

Clearly the Left noted her appeal, and are out to eliminate the threat- it’s not like it’s not obvious.

And she’s been highly successful in life while ignoring the left-wing feminist model… this helps to explain the extra dose of venom in the attacks.

Of course, the Democrats are plenty afraid of Palin coming-back at them in 2012 with a dynamic and complementary VP like Bobby Jindal… or visa versa.

And they surely have reason to fear her- Palin is the most popular governor in the country… are all those people idiots? Alaska was a pretty corrupt system until she stepped in. Her reforms took on entrenched politicians (inc. Republicans), a mafioso-style union boss, and Big Oil.

Wouldn’t it have been nice if Obama had been principled and brave enough to confront the corrupt Chicago Democratic Machine?

Or shady political operators like Tony Rezko?

Racist preachers?

Instead of doing business with every last one of them?

Go get em, Sarah- and don’t mind the press, nobody will be listening to them anymore after the pending Obamamania implosion- and once the ties of GE and others with media holdings to the Obama administration are fully exposed.

Palin's a

Palin's a phenomenon.

She's smart, competent, accomplished, tough yet obviously compassionate, she's not a snobbish elitist, she's dealt with the real world problems associated with family that most of us do, she's religious without being pushy about it, she's patriotic...you know, I really don't think that the woman has a mean or selfish bone in her body.

The truth be known, she scares the hell out of the GOP elitists that would have to run against her.

If she won the presidency, she'd be a huge hit overseas and without the free beer and rock bands.

One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 61% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory (yep...approval for Congress now at 39%...do you believe that!?).
