As Tim Graham reported earlier, comedian Wanda Sykes was given the spotlight for the White House Correspondents' Dinner tonight. We wondered if she'd throw a barb or two Obama's way as is customary. All past hosts have spared no opportunity to skewer the current commander in chief and his administration. That is what the thing is for, after all.
Well, even if comedian Sykes did give a lighthearted whack or two to The One, we wouldn't know about it by listening to the ABC Radio news break at the top of the 10PM hour (central). During the radio news break a report was aired on the dinner that featured one of Sykes' jokes.
Was it about Barack? Michelle? Even an Obama staffer? Nope. ABC couldn't find its way clear to air any of those jokes. No, what ABC aired was Sykes' joke about... Dick Cheney. Isn't he out of office?
The joke went as follows:
Dick Cheney. He's a scary man. He scares me to death. I tell my children that if there are two cars driving down our street, one has a stranger in it and one has Dick Cheney... get in the car with the stranger in it!
The joke is OK, I guess. But what is funnier is that ABC radio news used that joke instead of any of the jokes about Obama for its news break. What happened to the "new" era? Why is ABC Radio still looking backward?
Why else but that ABC doesn't see anything funny about Barack Obama. Not even his jug ears are ripe for poking, I guess.
But, har, har, them thar Bush guys are a scream!

May 10, 2009 - 00:49 ET by KC MulvilleI caught a few minutes of Obama's supposedly self-deprecating speech on C-Span. It was anything but. One of the jokes was that Hillary had advised Arlen Specter that if you can't beat Obama, join him. (A more sinister version is, "resistance is useless.")
I happened to re-read Tip O'Neill's autobiography a few days ago. (Don't ask why ... OK, it was near the bathroom, and I was desperate). Anyway, O'Neill has a section reminiscing about Jack Kennedy. At one point, O'Neill remarked, "What a thin skin he has!" Apparently, Kennedy took every barb personally. And, according to O'Neill, Bobby would punish anything and anyone who didn't support Jack whole-heartedly.
Obama's a bully. The first time you stand up to him, he'll fall back and let his henchmen (i.e., the media) attack you. Sooner or later, though, he'll just run away.

A year or two into his Presidency, I have to wonder what kind of condition the Bamster will be in when his polls are in the tank along with the economy, and inflation catches hold. I think we are going to see a very ugly side of him.
Re humor, if you are that thin-skinned you discount any self-deprecating humor, which is a large part of any comedian's possible material.

There was one chapter where she made clear her personal hatred and contempt for GWB. Anyone who's seen her act knows she's crude, mean, and not very bright. Perfect choice for a gathering of the D.C. leftist elite. Frankly, I'd be proud to be on her enemies list.
