CNN/Oprah.com: Calls Sudden Lesbian Syndrome a 'New' Trend Without Any Proof

Oprah.com and CNN have decided that there is a growing "new" trend in American sexual relations. The two Internet giants have teamed up and have decided that increasingly "women are leaving men for other women." Shocking news, I know. Only one little problem. Oprah.com has no proof for any such proclamation.

After the shocking headline and the first three paragraphs proclaiming a new lesbian revolution in America today, though, the piece admits that there are no real statistics to prove the thesis. The whole claim is merely based on the anecdotal stories of the "experts" that Oprah.com dug up to substantiate the tale.

The piece starts out talking of the "new kind of sisterly love" that is "in the air," details the several Hollyweird "stars" that have loudly involved themselves in lesbian relationships, and declares that as a society "we've arrived at a moment in the popular culture when it all suddenly seems almost fashionable -- or at least, acceptable" to become a sudden lesbian.

Yet... and yet there is this short admission:

Statistics on how many women have traded boyfriends and husbands for girlfriends are hard to come by.

In other words, folks, please just accept Oprah.com's claim as "truth" despite the fact that they have NO stats and NO proof to prove it.

The ridiculous piece goes on to give the anecdotal evidence of several "experts" that proclaim it a certainty that women everywhere are leaving those evil, rotten men for the soft embrace of a new girlfriend.

But, it is interesting that the entire piece focuses on the Hollyweird notables that have been struck with sudden lesbian syndrome and who’ve taken up with their softer side yet doesn't really talk about the real world at all. If one were to restrict study to Hollyweird, one would think that all sorts of unhinged, way out, and insane "trends" are the state of the country. I hate to bust Oprah.com's bubble, but the country isn't Hollyweird.

Just because some starry-eyed "stars" like Cynthia Nixon have tried on a new, kitschy trend in sexuality doesn't mean that it is happening all over!

This piece is pure junk. But it does reveal a certain moral direction that the entertainment media would love to see became a true national trend. I guess lesbian Oprah fans everywhere are just hoping that if they state as a fact that lesbianism is a growing trend, despite that they have no evidence that it is a true statement, then maybe, just maybe it will occur anyway.

So, like Oprah.com and CNN, I think that I'll proclaim my own "new" trend even though it doesn't exist. OK, here goes: my "new trend" is that more people than ever are turning to Warner Todd Huston's salient opinion pieces on NewsBusters.org to guide them in their everyday lives. There, that's settled. It's now a fact. Well, why shouldn't I be able to make things up out of whole cloth just like CNN and Oprah.com? What am I? Chopped liver?

Besides.... I'm a lesbian too. I like chicks, myself. Does that count?

Didn't President Clinton try to show how "hip" he was by having Ellen DeGeneres and Anne Heche at the Correspondents' Dinner? The two were shown nuzzling at the table.

Two men doing that would not have been deemed so "cute." Women have the edge there. And they can apparently go back and forth....isn't Heche married to a guy now?

Annne Heche became a "sudden" lez, then she returned "suddenly" to normal sexuality -- that being heterosexual. I didn't read anything in that Oprah story about these sudden returns to heterosexuality -- which curiously happen quite frequently in H'wood. Last I heard, Anne is a happily married heterosexual -- even though she's afraid to admit it. Imagine, some hip Hollywood starlet actually admitting that she enjoys being married to her man! She may upset the gay-left fascists and apologists that control Hollywood. I remember reading something a long time ago, I can't remember where -- maybe Vanity Fair, that some actresses "come out" and make the rounds doing the "fake gay" media tour as a show of solidarity for homo politics even though they are not actually homosexual. Then eventually, and usually without fanfare, they will return to their normal heterosexual lifestyes. Most of this "sudden lesbian" hoopla is pure b.s. and Oprah knows that a large percentage of her audience is gay so this story is more about ideological back-slapping than anything dealing with reality.

I'm not all that sure that women choosing women partners is really about sex, especially for older women. Whether straight or(crooked?) men seem to be men and women seem to be women. Men think about sex and women think about relationships. Men and women can have sex and a relationship but each is willing to have one without the other but in opposite combinations.

It's pretty clear now. The media will push whatever spin they want, on the theory that the public will swallow it. They got Obama elected, and if they can do that, they can do anything.

But it's like a Greek tragedy. Now they believe they have power of opinion over the whole country. The only problem is that liberal newspapers and liberal TV networks are losing audience drastically.

Seems to me that this undermines the entire justification for gay rights, in that this is a counter argument that homsexuality is something one is born with. We should grant this and say that these women have deliberated about their lives, realized that men are pigs, and therefore are now choosing to have a relationship with another woman.

Somen women have been trying to marginalize and make men "unnecessary for longer than there has been a women's lib movement. This is not a trend. Have you ever noticed how on all the comercials and most sitcoms and tv shows, the husband is always the bumbling fool while the wife is the one who "gets it" and just merely puts up with the silly (usually out of shape) dufus? There is a whole community of "man-haters" who think life would be better if women could just have families and relationships without having to put up with those icky MEN. It isn't a trend. It is just another thing we are having pushed at us as if it is "normal".
