Baltimore Sun TV critic David Zurawik should check into a clinic somewhere to have his delicate mental balance checked. Maybe they might have some nice medication he can take to temper his Palin Derangement Syndrome (PDS)? He has PDS so bad he can't even write about a little reality TV show without indulging unnecessary vitriol and hate.
It's interesting that critic Zurawik gets so filled with hate in such a short space. In fact, the tiny four paragraph "review" spends more time name calling and attacking Governor Palin than it does in discussing the TV show on which she is about to appear; TLC's American Chopper.
Certainly professor Zurawik's contribution to society is above reproach, of course. Long known to be the bastion of American intellectualism and culture, TV has always been considered one of our most important institutions. So, Zurawik's work as a critic is sure to have the sort of cultural staying power as that of the great philosophers, I am sure. And his review of Palin's appearance on American Chopper is sure to remain a standout example of the sort of tour de force work he's long been known for.
Zurawik gives us no less than one slight on Palin's social standing, one denigration of her addition to the McCain presidential ticket, one claim she is "divisive," as well as a few name callings and the like. Zurawik calls Palin "a hot dog" and then implies that she is a low-class individual that is perfect for reality TV.
In fact, out of the four paragraphs of the review, only one of them actually talks about the show. The rest are merely an excuse to attack Palin on a personal level.
One would also be excused if after reading the acid tongued Zurawik's account of the show that Palin is a central part of the episode. In truth, however, only one small part of the show features Palin as she was visited by the show's main character, motorcycle builder Paul Teutul, Sr.
Teutul and his American Chopper TV crew were in Alaska to film the building of a motorcycle meant to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Alaska's admittance to the union as the 49th state.
It is also interesting that Zurawik somehow missed the complimentary things that Teutul had to say about the Governor. It turns out that after the filming, Teutul said that Palin was "a real down to earth person to talk to."
I guess nice things aren't in the cards when PDS is raging, eh?

disastrous TV interviews?

False
False
Maybe the reason the Republican ticket was a disaster was because of the top
of the ticket. I do not recall there being any energy for McCain before
announcing Palin as his VP.
I believe that Obama was given a total pass by the press as opposed to all
the liberal tv talking heads trying to "get" Palin. She went
into those interviews without any conditions placed on the interviewers whereas
the great one would not even consider an interview on Fox News until he thought
it would cut into McCain’s acceptance speech.
Amazing, you brought up four interviews (before your post changed) where the MSM admittedly tried to trip
up Palin, but you apparently have no problem with the talking marionette we now
have as the leader of our formerly free country. At one point the great one even tried to
claim he did not use a teleprompter but then photos appeared showing the
60" big screen behind the press telling Obama what to say. The man
has thanked himself because his teleprompter told him to.
BRILLIANT! My wife says watching Obama give a speech, she always wonders
how is winning the tennis match he is watching.
On one hand you have a genuine real person who will take any and all questions and tell you what they
think. On the other hand you have a complete phony who will tell you what
someone else tells him to tell you. I will pick the former every time, too bad
we are all stuck with the latter for 3.5 more years.

Does Palin scare you that much? That she has YEARS more experience in running ANYTHING as compared to Hobama? It was Sarah Palin that got McCain ahead of Whorebama after the Republican Convention. And the Democrats' double-standard sexism is appalling; she's "dumb" because she's a happy and attractive Christian, who enjoys being a mother? Real feminists need to be angry, wear combat boots, no make-up, short hair, and live alone in a studio apartment in the East Village? She's not the right kind of example because she doesn't support affirmative action... but instead went out there and just kicked butt?
She has been highly successful in life while ignoring the left-wing feminist model... this helps to explain the extra dose of venom in the attacks.
Democrats are plenty afraid of Palin coming-back at them in 2012 with a dynamic and complementary VP like Bobby Jindal... or visa versa. And they have good reason to fear her. Palin is the most popular governor in the country... are all those people idiots? Alaska was a pretty corrupt system until she stepped in. Her reforms took on entrenched politicians (inc. Republicans), a mafioso-style union boss, and Big Oil.
Wouldn't it have been nice if Obama had been principled and brave enough to confront the corrupt Chicago Democratic Machine?
Or shady political operators like Tony Rezko? Racist preachers? Instead of doing business with every last one of them?
Go get em, Sarah- and don't mind the press, nobody will be listening to them anymore after the pending Obamamania implosion.

I honestly don't understand
April 30, 2009 - 09:39 ET by QueenMumI honestly don't understand the conservative obsession with Palin. Sure, she's a good governor and is very good at delivering the conservative message. But I don't think the Dems are afraid of her. I think the media obsession with her is nothing more than part of the ongoing effort to trivialize conservatism. There are too many flaws in the idea of Palin as a serious candidate for POTUS. In other words, she's the perfect target for the left wing to cite as an example of the backward conservative. JMO
