KC Star: Republicans Afraid of Limbaugh, Uses Democratic Press Release to 'Prove' It

  • Bookmark and Share

Yael T. Abouhalkah is all excited to let the readers of the Kansas City Star know that he's found another Republican politician that has had to grovel at the feet of Rush Limbaugh, apologizing to the radio giant for a slight cast his way. And to "prove" it Abouhalkah used a press release from the Democratic National Campaign Committee that said so. Yeah, nice unbiased source there, Abouhalkah.

Seriously, does Abouhalkah imagine that a Democrat Party press release is an unbiased source about what is happening between a Republican lawmaker and Rush Limbaugh? No wonder newspapers are falling on such tough times. If Abouhalkah is any indication, the definition of common words aren't even any longer understood in the Star's newsroom. Words like "source," "unbiased," "legitimate," and "veracity" seem to be foreign to the folks at the Star. With such a failure to understand the very basics of journalism, its no wonder readers are abandoning newspapers in droves.

So the story is that Representative Todd Tiahrt was asked by the KCStar Editorial Board whether or not he thought that Rush Limbaugh was the "de facto leader of the GOP." The Star reported that Tiahrt said, "no, no, he's just an entertainer."

Apparently, a few days after the KCStar report was published, Tiahrt's office issued a clarification of the comment in a Wichita Eagle blog.

"The congressman believes Rush is a great leader of the conservative movement in America -- not a party leader responsible for election losses. Nothing the congressman said diminished the role Rush has played and continues to play in the conservative movement."

OK, such as it is, it is less an "apology," less any groveling at the feet of Limbaugh, than it is a more careful statement of where the Congressman feels Limbaugh fits into the scheme of things. Maybe it can be perceived as a backtrack of sorts, but it certainly isn't any real apology.

But, as far as Abouhalkah is concerned this must be some sort of abject apology on Tiahrt's behalf. It is "Limbaugh winning again" and another Republican Congressman "backtrackingg" to prostrating himself at Limbaugh's feet. And what proof does Abouhalkah offer to prove his point? Why a press release from the DNCC, of course.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Democratic National Campaign Committee released a statement, which began with this headline and first paragraph:

Tiahrt to Leader Limbaugh: I’m sorry!

Add Congressman Todd Tiahrt to the list of spineless Republicans who can’t stand up to their party’s leader – Rush Limbaugh. Just days after claiming Rush is “just an entertainer,” Congressman Tiahrt is now singing a different tune. Fearful of Leader Limbaugh’s retribution, Congressman Tiahrt’s office quickly issued an apology praising Limbaugh stating 'The Congressman believes Rush is a great leader.'

Just like the Republicans that have come before him to grovel for Rush Limbaugh’s forgiveness, Congressman Tiahrt proved once again that Limbaugh is the de facto leader of the Republican Party,” said Gabby Adler, the Midwestern Regional Press Secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Instead of standing up for the people of Kansas to fight for them during this economic crisis, Congressman Tiahrt has made it clear that he would prefer to take his orders from Rush Limbaugh.

See, it must be true. The Democratic Party SAYS so!

Seriously, if the KCStar is going to have the Democratic National Campaign Committee write its news for it, why does the Star even need employees like Yael T. Abouhalkah? So, I have some cost savings advice for the Star. Cut out that costly middle man, fire Yael T. Abouhalkah, and have the Democratic Party just write your copy straight away!

See, I'm saving money for the Old Media as we speak. I should charge for this timely economic advice, that's what!

Don't thank me now, KCStar. You'll be thanking me later.

Oh my God!!  I don't know what to say, except... It's absolutely amazing how they can cut the man's sentence in HALF and report it as fact.  It boggles my mind how they have NO QUALMS at all about either telling or printing lies. I truly fear for this country and world if people with no morals, values, and honor keep on the course they have set upon.

It's absolutely frightening.  The sheeple just follow along like good little soldiers.

The KC Star quit being a "news" paper 15 years ago

I dropped the Star 15 years ago because they stopped reporting news and used their opinion as news. They have turned into a joke and are hurting financially. They are not far behind MSNBC in their bias.

Star is a Democrat shill

I cancelled my subscription to the Star a long time ago.  Back in the 90s they wrote a front page story castigating the Republican Congress for passing a bill with a decrease in the amount of the increase of spending, portraying it as Draconian cuts that would hurt the poor.  The next week when Clinton signed the exact same bill they practically slobered all over themselves on the front page about how he signed a bill increasing spending on Social Programs.  Of course by today's standards in the MSM that would be a minor example of bias.

Actually, I rather hope the repubs are afraid of Rush

...particularly those of the RINO variety.

After all, somebody has to keep those democrat wanna-be clowns in line.

This coup has gone on long enough. The time to put it down is NOW.

How it works

If reporters had to track down all their own stories, they'd never have time for fun. Half the stories they write start out as press releases, and the reporters follow where they're being led.

This story is a press release from the Democrat party, with little effort to cover it up. But think of stories about global warming; how many city newspaper reporters are experts in global warming? They're following press releases.

Since when does a local staff reporter get the inspiration and resources to do a story on ... military spending? ... labor negotiations? ... environmental abuses? They don't know anything about those issues themselves, but when advocates hand them "pre-investigated facts," they make the reporter's job so much easier.

That's why both corporations and anti-corporate advocates put out press releases all the time. They're trying to manipulate the "news."

Too many reporters don't chase stories; the stories chase them. The myth is that reporters come up with stories on their own, get clearance and advice from their editor, and then dutifully chase sources all over town. Instead, reporters find press releases, and maybe they'll call someone to get an opposing quote. Put a headline and a 30 on it, and that's all there is.

the GOP would do better if

the GOP would do better if Limbaugh was their leader. Then again they would never hire a conservative for the job.

I agree with your sentiments about Rush...I pray we conservatives get a strong voice...soon!

I listen to Rush all the time and if he...

has a bone to pick with a Republican, it is because that Republican is not following the tenants of Conservatism.  I worry about any Republican who doesn't apologize for sounding like a Liberal.  Did Lincoln Chaffee ever apologize?  I don't think so.  Jim Webster
