On CNN, Obama Advisor Hits Cheney: Not a 'Statesman' (Skips Gore's Attacks on Bush)

Video Below Fold

It is always interesting to see the Democratic pot calling the Republican kettle black and here we have only the latest example of that with Obama's top advisor attacking former Vice President Dick Cheney for his outspoken position on the failures of the Obama administration's early efforts in office. But, as advisor David Axelrod was attacking Cheney, there doesn't seem to be any memory on the part of CNN or Axelrod of the wild-eyed, fire-breathing attacks made by former Vice President Al Gore on President George W. Bush in the years after the 2000 election.

On CNN's State of the Union with host John King, David Axelrod scolded Dick Cheney for not behaving like a "statesman" over the former vp's statements that the country is becoming less safe because of Obama's policies.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Speaking to King, Axelrod praised former President Bush for his decision not to criticize Obama but of Cheney he said, "... I just don't think the memo got passed down to the vice president."

So Cheney is a big meanie for his measured, albeit sharp, criticism of the Obama administration? Apparently so. But let us be clear here, Cheney has not been screaming at the top of his lungs, he has not been attending fevered rallies calling Obama names. His criticism has been specific, measured and of even temper.

Still, the Obama administration are attempting to spin an "issue" out of this criticism by Cheney, acting as if it is all so untoward.

But, let us go back only a few years to the slobbering, hysterics of former Vice President Al Gore who appeared at an over emotional 2004 rally in Tennessee where he screamed at the top of his lungs to a frenzied crowd that Bush "played on our fears" with his Iraq policies. Remember when Al Gore was screaming like some sort of brimstone spewing preacher that Bush "betrayed this country"?

(Here is the REALLY hard to find audio of Al Gore screaming, "He betrayed this country." I looked for this for hours before I finally found it.)

Was THAT "statesman-like"?

Somehow, Axelrod "didn't get the memo" that Al Gore was far, far worse in his lack of statesman-like behavior than Cheney could ever dream of being. Cheney just doesn't have that sort of unhinged performance IN him! But, leave it to CNN and the Obama administration to act as if Cheney is less adult, less serious and less statesman-like than the freaked out performances of Al "screamer" Gore.

Let’s be honest here shall we? The way Cheney is conducting himself is the epitome of statesman-like. He is engaging in adult, intelligent debate on Obama’s ill-advised policies. That is what statesmen do. Axelrod has the idiotic assumption that being statesman-like is just shutting up about everything.

It is Axelrod and Obama, rather, that is being petty, unprofessional, and lacking of statesmanship by attacking Cheney for having the temerity of speaking his mind in a serious manner instead of actually answering to his charges.

  Plus Cheney did not

Plus Cheney did not travel to another country to trash talk his own country and political leaders as many of the democrats, including obama, have done.

MidA- are we sure that he's

MidA- are we sure that he's not just a slimmed down, dressed up Natalie Maines?

"Arrogant and Dismissive"

So Obama gets to call the Bush Administration (including Cheney) "arrogant and dismissive" and it is unstatesman like for Cheney to fire back.

Not only Obama but Biden,

Not only Obama but Biden, Bill Clinton to a point and especially Carter. We could also throw in Reid, Pelosi, Hillary and John Kerry. Heaven forbid that Cheney should not agree with the smartest Democrat in the world.

"DumbAssity of Dope"

I think  Axelrod's right-

I think  Axelrod's right- Cheney, if he wants to remain relevant, should try to be as statesman-like as the new Prez... you know, like in the frat-boy photo ops at the G20... or as he knelt in defference to an Arab leader... or as he wagged his finger at North Korea before asking the UN what to do... or as he recycled his campaign speeches to the non-electorate in Europe... or as he convinced the Dutch PM to apologize to his bread-and-butter, Muslim extremists...

Come on Cheney! Have some dignity, why dontcha!

Team America

They showed the clip of Hans Blix threatening Kim Jong with an angry letter from the U.N. this morning on Fox n' Friends.

We need Team America!

And what about . . . ?

How about former President Jim-meh Codder?

JC openly and loudly smeared the Bush Administration from one corner of the world to the other.  That's why they gave him the Nobel Prize.

They must need a smokescreen.

Cheney's comments were nearly a month ago, and he's just now whining to CNN about it?

I'm guessing the One's Magical Mystery Tour isn't polling as well as they hoped.  But trying to make Cheney a boogeyman is getting old -- they need a new political strategy in there.

He's right...Cheney should

He's right...Cheney should get a clue!

A true statesman is one who can read from a teleprompter while gazing over the heads of his audience (Oh, I forgot....that' where the teleprompter IS!!)

A true statesman is one who is not only willing, but eager, to confess the "faults" of his country,  to foreign leaders and citizens.

A true statesman is one who is able to boldly lie, saying that he is against a certain course of action, even as he takes steps in that direction; and to say that he is doing one thing, as he blatantly does another.

They might say "Wow, that sucks!"  But at least they'll say "Wow!"  -Duff Goldman, the Ace of Cakes

Cheap

"A true statesman is one who is not only willing, but eager, to confess the "faults" of his country,  to foreign leaders and citizens."

It's really cheap to criticize internal opponents to outsiders, and call it "self-criticism." That way, Obama claims humility even though everyone knows he doesn't feel responsible for it. More than ever, Obama reveals that he is willing to tell you whatever what you want to hear. The only time he acts tough is when the other person is in no position to respond - then he's full of tough rhetoric.

If obama were an American I

If obama were an American I would get really ticked off when he trash talked my beautiful country.

But it's just water off of a ducks back when this screw-up speaks anything.  Keep him over there, they love him, he loves them, it's a match made in hell.

Born in the U.S.A.!

Ha! Ha! Ha!

Good point!

Axelrod has the idiotic

Axelrod has the idiotic assumption that being statesman-like is just shutting up about everything.

Axelrod is just POed that Cheney had the nerve to say something negative about Obama.  That is against the rules.  You aren't suppose to speak ill of The One.

Cheney commits suicide

Yeah, and if he keeps it up, he'll end up dead in a park with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in the back of the head.

Axlerod is the man behind the curtain

Obambie is a puppet

So Cheney is in charge of the Republican Party now?

Cuz I thought we wuz all on Rush the Party Leader.

I am getting confused on which retired politicians or private citizens we directed to follow by the democrats.

Can they pick a expired one next. That would be awfully fun.

What's up with the mustache???

Looks about as good as Tom Friedman's...or Dr. Phil's.

Very 70s/80s.  Although I'm sure if Michelle grew one (and I have zero doubts she could), they'd quickly become the "in thing" according to the media: "Bare arms and a mustache! She just oozes confidence."

With apologies to those who like them / wear them.

It reminds me of the scene from

Weird Al Yankovich's movie "UHF." The owner of TV station is talking with an employee who is wearing a strange hat. As the employee leaves the office, the owner says, "And take that ridiculous thing off." You expect him to take off his hat, but he instead peels off his Axelrodish mustache.

And Carter...

Let's not forget the merdivorous Jimmy Carter. What he has been doing for the last twenty years actually makes Al Gore look statesmanlike. Carter made a little reported evening visit to the White House in March; no one knows what for. God help us if the Bamster takes counsel from him.

Axelrod should know, since he's not one

Yes, but Axelrod should know all about 'not being a statesman'. He has that down very well. So does his boss, or is it puppet, Obama. Never mind Dick Cheney attacking Obama, Obama goes abroad and attacks America. What is that? It certainly is not being a statesman. Again they prove that Obama is nothing but an affirmative action president that must be protected at all costs. So Cheney should shut up, someone might actually listen to him.
As far as Al Gore is concerned, has anyone ever thought him to be a mature 'statesman'? He has always been and continues to be a whining baby. The Democrats are made up of brats. Is it statesman-like for Obama and Axelrod to constantly whine about the economy that Obama inherited? I remember Obama voting for this disaster. And he has made it exponentially worse all by his lonesome. And I do believe this was his plan so we would cry: "Save us please oh Holy Obama."
Cheney is right. Keep it up Dick.

Betrayal

Over 2000 years ago is one of the greatest examples of betrayal of one's nation by a king. That was by naivity but Comrade Obama's is consciencious.

Envoys From Babylon

12 At that time Marduk-Baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent Hezekiah letters and a gift, because he had heard of Hezekiah's illness. 13 Hezekiah received the envoys and showed them all that was in his storehouses—the silver, the gold, the spices and the fine oil—his armory and everything found among his treasures. There was nothing in his palace or in all his kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them.

14 Then Isaiah the prophet went to King Hezekiah and asked, "What did those men say, and where did they come from?"
"From a distant land," Hezekiah replied. "They came from Babylon."

15 The prophet asked, "What did they see in your palace?"
"They saw everything in my palace," Hezekiah said. "There is nothing among my treasures that I did not show them."

16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, "Hear the word of the LORD: 17 The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your predecessors have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD. 18 And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood who will be born to you, will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon."

By Axelfraud's own standards

...Obama doesn't display statemen like behavior when he goes overseas and bashes America and bashes President Bush.

Obama bashes Bush in Turkey

Not very statesmen-like for Obama to be bashing Bush on foreign soil, is it? Some might call attacking an American President on foreign soil treasonous behavior.

--------------

As he has been repeatedly doing throughout this trip, President Obama apologize for their tense relationship during the Bush administration, which resented Turk officials' refusal to allow US troops to enter Iraq through their country.

"I know there have been difficulties these last few years," he said. "I know that the trust that binds us has been strained, and I know that strain is shared in many places where the Muslim faith is practiced. Let me say this as clearly as I can: the United States is not at war with Islam.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/04/obama-talks-tur.html

whom do we believe VP Dick or Axelrod?

the ex-VP had all the info needed to make his assumption. Axelrod  and BHO have very little  experience to fall back on. The VP only had Americas best intentions, not an agenda.

If America is attacked on BHO watch, is GWB still to blame.? We shall hold the new administration accountable and those found to be lacking shall be tried for treasonous acts by the American public.

The agenda of the left has made us weak in the eyes of the world, perception, is key.once those who would cause us harm find they will not be hindered, here they come.the rocket launched by Korea is the best example. Shoot it down, no more misunderstanding anything.

BHO- POTUS, is a Liar and Socialist

There's Gore, then J Carter.. but for straight treasonous talk..

There's Gore, then J Carter.. but for straight treasonous sounding talk.. Democratic Representative Dennis Kucinich takes the cake. He's in the same boat with Danny Glover, Sean Penn, Harry Belefonte, Alex Baldwin, etc., but Kucinich is a sitting US congressman.

In this Sep't 2007 (I'm sure that most of us remember this) clip, Kucinich is appearing on State run Syrian TV. He refers to "his Excellency" Assad, in the most glowing terms - that he should be "respected and appreciated," while providing the viewer with enough hate of the US to fuel suicide bombers for generations to come. He claims, 1,642 days into the Iraq War, that a million innocent Iraqi civilians have been killed; a number which would require that 609 civilians would have died each and every day since the March, 2003 start of the war to free Iraq. Of course I've never seen a single news account of that many Iraqi civilians dying in a single day - well, not since the days of Saddam.

I don't understand why Cheney...

would go on CNN.  If he has something to say, he should go on Fox where at least it is "fair and balanced".  CNN and MSNBC are places a Republican goes when he wants to criticize other Republicans and not places he goes when he wants to criticize the opposition.  Of course, he did criticize President Bush for not fully pardoning Scooter Libby.  I guess that counts.  Jim Webster

Remarkable that they keep

Remarkable that they keep goading those who didn't vote Democrat.  I can't see their rhetoric as being anything other than inflammatory and dangerous.

One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 61% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory (yep...approval for Congress now at 39%...do you believe that!?).

CNN IS HYPOCRITE and Axelrod is douchebag.

Geesh, how many times did I see Al Gore, Bill Clinton and especially the Libtard Carter wagging their tails at CNN, disgracing a seating President and Vice President and saying all the dirty and apocalyptic things against the former administration.

Axelrod?   The Chicago Thug Leader? Yikes.

THIS IS HYPOCRISY TO THE HIGHEST LEVEL.
