The AP Thinks Palin Teen's Romance Woes is News?

  • Bookmark and Share

Is it some sort of amazing, newsworthy revelation that teen romance is sometimes a rocky road? Is it news that family can be troublesome when it results in out-of-wedlock birth? The Associated Press seems to think it is, at least if one of those teens is Governor Sarah Palin's daughter, Bristol.

Do you care that punk Levi Johnston is bawling to the press that Governor Palin is supposedly a controlling Grandmother? Especially in light of the fact that this kid is an uneducated, immature, unserious lout? Well, if YOU don't the AP sure as heck does.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

This time we have punk Johnston whining that Grandma Palin is a bit cross with him and closely watches him when he is with the baby. All I can say is, can you blame her? I wouldn't think much of a grandmother that let's a jobless, high school dropout have unsupervised visits with a child he casually fathered without regard for his girlfriend's future or family. Would you?

But, on the other hand. I just can't find a reason to care about Levi OR Bristol.

Maybe it's just me, but I am not much interested in the families of political figures. I didn't find Billy Carter's exploits particularly interesting or relevant. I couldn't have cared less that some of Ronald Reagan's kids were so boringly compelled to tell the world about their personal angst. I had no interest in Al Gore's ner do well kids. Didn't care that Bush's teen daughters liked to party once in a while. I have no interest in a story about Joe Biden's drug using daughter. Similarly, I've got no interest in Bristol Palin's woefully bad choice of the punk Levi Johnston as the accidental father of her child. But our Old Media seem to think that these tales are hot news that we should all know about.

I have always thought that in a meritocratic society that prizes individual success and effort, to saddle any citizen -- famous or no -- with every last peccadillo of their family members is illogical. Every last one of us have at least one family member that embarrasses us. We all have at least one family member that is a drunk, a criminal, a fool, or an idiot. But what do they have to do with us as individuals?

But, let's realize something about why this "report" -- or any report about politician's kids -- is all in the news, shall we? It's an effort by the Old Media to diminish our politicians. If it were up to me stories about the trials and tribulations of politician's kids would be far and few between. Of course, in this particular case, it is especially interesting to media outlets because it is an excuse to further diminish Sarah Palin and her family.

Me... it just makes me tired.

I care!

I care more about Sarah Palin's daughter's romance than about Tea Parties, the current economic crisis, Obama giving another failed gift to the UK leaders, and all the other unimportant things going on in this world. Sheesh you guys at Newsbusters really don't get it...do ya...

Just a diversion to keep

Just a diversion to keep focus away from what's really going on. Slight of hand one might say. All that Palin talk covers up the fact that Uhbama gave an 80 year old royal queen an iPod as a gift. As if the DVDs weren't bad enough. I'm sure those all had to be sent back to Netflix.

hits and misses

I don't have a problem with the iPod. The video iPod itself was a suitable gift because it contained photos and videos of Queen Elizabeth's visits to the U.S. along with American show tunes, favorites of the Queen, and it was accompanied by a rare musical songbook signed by Richard Rodgers. This is soooo much more thoughtful and meaningful than the 25-pack of DVDs (which do not work in GB).

Where the gift failed was that the iPod also contained two of Obama's speeches - his 2004 DNC speech and his inaugural address. ??? What a narcissist!

About the iPod

I didn't know the iPod contained all those things...maybe it isn't AS BAD as I thought it would be. I know he said he would bring Change, and he sure did. Most Presidents would have given her something less technilogically based and more priceless and meaningfull. I think that is what most people are upset about with the gift.

USCG

Re iPod

It also says 'Made in China' on the back of it. I'm sure President Hu got a kick out of that.

At least he didn/t bring her a copy of our Declaration

of Independence ;-)

They enjoy it

The left really enjoys dragging Republicans and their families through the mud. They hate Republicans so much that they keep reminding the public of why they should hate them too.

John Edwards

Whatever happened to John Edwards?  Why is the media spending so much time on the family of the losing VP candidate when they specifically chose NOT to spend any time on John Edwards after he lost?

You're right, they see Palin as a future threat and need to marginalize her as much as possible to get her out of any future run.

Palin is just another Governor now.  Where are all the exposes on the other 49 governor's childrens escapades?

Well, it was either that,

Levi should consider himself lucky.

In this "men are useless" society he's lucky that he has access to his son, and hasn't been told to take a hike   I saw an interview with him where he said that Bristol and her family were very nice and let him come over any time he wanted.

I think Gov. Palin is being more "protective" than controlling.

She knows that like most 18-year-old guys, Levi has limited experience with infants.

Europe in teh lead!

“In America, there’s a failure to appreciate Europe’s leading role in the world,” Obama said.

Yes. It was Europe that put a man on the moon, put a few tiny rovers up on Mars scooting all over the place, sent spacecraft to explore nearly every planet, one that has even left the solar system,  & routinely sends manned missions into space.

Yes. It was Europe that stared down the communists in the U.S.S.R for 50 years. It is Europe that is still engaging in stopping rogue regimes all over the planet, like North Korea & Iraq & Cuba. It was Europe that singlehandedly stopped militant Japan in 1945, took on communists in Korea & Vietnam.

Yes. It is Europe that has a Navy that is 7 times bigger than the next biggest navy. It is Europe that has the best equipped, best trained, most experienced military. It is Europe that has their military stationed all over the globe in Japan, German, South Korea, England, Iraq, Spain, Diego Garcia, Italy, Afghanistan and more..

Yes. It is Europe that is doing a lot of the inventing and inovating. Europe leads the way in medicine & technology. So many of our citizens go to Europe when they desperately need to get well.

Yes. It is Europe that has franchises of it's best companies all over the world. McDonalds. Burger King. KFC. Pizza Hut. Dunkin Donuts. It is Europe that came up with the internet and Microsoft is based there.

It is Europe that is the policeman of the world. Europe does not have to go in to fix things but they do because no one else will. It is Europe that took on Iraq twice. It is Europe that took on tyrants in Libya, Panama, Haiti, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan,  & Bosnia.

About the only thing the U.S is leading is more & more socialistic programs.

nonsense

I'm more interested in seeing Biden's daughter snorting coke.  It's funny how they covered this up.  Remember the firestorm on all the major networks when Bush's daughters were caught with a couple beers?  Just imagine Couric if this was one of Palin's kids.

Loser: Anyone who appears on the Tyra Banks show

I'm sorry, but by definition, anyone who resorts to the appearing on the Tyra Banks show for media attention to tell their woes is a complete loser.

I'm convinced that any exposure to that woman causes an instantaneous loss of 10% of your IQ.  That the AP picked up on that is telling enough.

Between the lines

The AP's unwritten I-Told-You-So would be that everyone would have been better off if they had murdered the baby in the womb. Now, there is a forced relationship only because Gov. Palin and her daughter selfishly choose not to slaughter the child.

Why is he a punk Warner

I am  not disagreeing that Bristol should be left alone, but why are you referring to Levi as a punk?

He wants to spend more time with his daughter and he is frustrated.

He had my vote

Because you have to question the motives...

I do Warner

I do have to say, I feel sorry for the Palin family with this mess. It's not an easy situation, for sure. But, getting all soft on this useless, punk kid won't help anyone, ESPECIALLY the baby.

Were I in Palin's shoes I'd have told the twerp to get lost and not to come back until he's made a man of himself. I don't give a crap HOW he "feels."

He obviously didn't care how anyone ELSE "feels."

Come on Warner

How does the fact that I symphathize with Levi make me a overidulgent parent? I know your style and you like to get a rise out of people, but thats kind of a reaching statement.

"Were I in Palin's shoes I'd have told the twerp to get lost and not to

Totally disagree with this also, the last thing the Palins need is more publicity with a lawsuit, or court appointed visits.

Warner went with an assumption of what kind of parent I am from my opinion of Levi, I said that was a reaching statement

Your example is me saying that NB respects other peoples POV without namecalling, that is hardly the same.

Now I'm not sure if you were neglected as a child and want get popular with the other kids by picking on the unpopular kids, but you obviously want attention.

Like I said before, welcome to Newsbusters, to each their own.

shawn228 you set up a strawman, laid out the "rules" by which we

Again, yes I used the word moron when finishing a comment to bal. It was also used with precision accuracy.

I suppose you wish I used the word genius?

Anyhow, you are similar to bal in many ways.  Dwell on that nugget ;)

"Now I'm not sure if you were neglected as a child and want get popular
with the other kids by picking on the unpopular kids, but you obviously
want attention"

Uh, yeah... i'm a bully wanting to get popular... how did you find me out!...or maybe my threshold for BS is a lot lower than yours?  huh? uh could that be it... possibly?

shawn, the first rule of not being a hypochrite is following your own advice.

Oh, BTW, next time it might not help your cause to create strawmen arguments with others and expect this to stick.

Perhaps, if you quit thinking of yourself as a savior to the supposed and imagined weak on this site you could stop donning the cape and try using logic?

Of course he's got to be a reject

"I guess you are the sort of overindulgent, permissive parent that lets
your kids to do whatever they like. If you don't see Levi for the punk
he is... well, I feel a bit afraid for your kids."

Yea, he's got to be something terrible - how else could he  possibly disagree with you? (eyes rolling)

Punk kid or not, Levi will be the baby's father for the the rest of the baby's life. I see no plus in hindering Levi from starting a relationship with the child as soon as  possible. I sure hope you're not one of those girly men who think a father figure isn't important :)I'm guessing you started fatherhood, er perfect? Levi is probably immature, but if he's not dangerous to  the child, a relationship should be encouraged - in the log run it will help the child.

He'd have more time to spend with the baby if he weren't running around taking money to complain about how he doesn't get enough time with the baby.

That high-pitched scream you hear is the troll under my heel.

Going on TV might not be

Going on TV might not be the best idea, but that doesn't take away from time he would spend with the baby.

Besides, where does he say that he doesn't get enough time with the baby?  I must have missed that.

I did see him in another interview where he said that the Palins were all very nice about letting him come to see the baby any time he wanted.

You did say he'd have more time with his son if he weren't going on TV etc, didn't you?

Do you have any evidence that he is putting TV and interview time ahead of spending time with his son?  Is it an either/or thing?  Does the one preclude the other?

Frankly, I think it is crass of him to go on Tyra Banks, but I fail to see how that translates  to spending  less time with his son.

I didn't think it was physically possible, but this both sucks and blows. -Bart Simpson

Time he's spending going to and participating in a TV show is time he's not spending in the same room/city/state his son is in.

I first want to say clarify that I completely disagree with QueenMum, but remember when she said you were neglecting your children with your time online?.

but this is the same thing, taking time to go on talk show takes a few days vs a couple of hours each day online.

I do not believe either takes time away from your child.

Get out of the water, shawn!!!! For the love of Obama, man....GET OUT OF THE WATER!!!!!!

Shawn, my children are neither out of my sight nor hearing, at ANY time. Making a few comments online in between completing household tasks, making meals, and reading books is a tad different from leaving the state to complain about not getting to take the baby out alone.

That high-pitched scream you hear is the troll under my heel.

Jaws was one of my favorite movies

Levi's child does not even live with him and going on a talk show for few days to reap the rewards of seeing his son more often if that is his intent, does not mean neglecting time with is child.

He had my vote

~If he wants it that much

He could try not embarassing his child's mother and alienating her family. He could also try growing up enough to be a responsible husband and father. You don't mature by avoiding opportunities to be responsible.

The child not living with him is his own choice. If he really wanted to be a man and father he'd have sucked it up and made the sacrifices and done the work to provide for his family.

And I will refrain at his point from using your own tactic against you by asking why you're here instead of playing with your child.

I'm rocking my baby and watching the girls play with their grandmother on the swingset, just so you know.

You did read when I said I completely disagree with what QueenMum said right chose? I would never say or imply you neglect your children

You know me better than that come on.

edit,

Perhaps he is getting frustrated with the limited time he gets to spend with his child, so he felt going public was the only way.

Is he supposed to do nothing but spend time with his son?

Would it be OK for him to be just in the same city and state, or would he have to be in the same room?

Time that you spend on the computer discussing stuff at Newsbusters is time you are not spending with your children.  Have you ever gone out to dinner without your children?  Spent a day shopping and left them home with Dad?

Does that make you a neglectful mother, or are you allowed to do other things too?

You are really stretching a point, I think because you made a knee-jerk comment about how he spends his time, and now have to defend it.

I didn't think it was physically possible, but this both sucks and blows. -Bart Simpson

~?

Time that you spend on the computer discussing stuff at Newsbusters is time you are not spending with your children.

One of them is in my lap right now, and the other two are splashing in a bubble bath while my husband watches. Your point?

Have you ever gone out to dinner without your children?

Twice, most recent was 2 years 5 months ago. And technically, it was 'child' then.

Spent a day shopping and left them home with Dad?

I wish.

Does that make you a neglectful mother, or are you allowed to do other things too?

Actually, I stay home with them, grow all our own veggies, and run a business from home. So yes, I do other things.

You are really stretching a point, I think because you made a knee-jerk
comment about how he spends his time, and now have to defend it

Wow, so "Time he's spending on a TV show is time he's not spending with his son" is a 'knee-jerk' comment that I 'have to defend'?

It seems like a fairly obvious observation on proximity. What is with the hostility?

That high-pitched scream you hear is the troll under my heel.

I'm sorry that you saw my

I'm sorry that you saw my comment as hostile.

I wasn't accusing you of neglecting your children.  Why are you so defensive?

My examples using you were meant to show that even though you might do other things, such as going out to dinner, etc, your children were not being neglected.

Are you saying that parents should not do anything that takes time away from their children?

If you've never had a day out shopping by yourself, or gone out to dinner with your husband, that's your own choice. It doesn't automatically make you a better parent than someone else.

Parents do other things besides interact with their children, even when they are at home, which you have made obvious by listing your activities.

My point was that it might be a poor decision to go on TV, but not for the reason that the time would otherwise be spent with his son, which is what you implied.  It's not an either/or thing.

And you don't think linking to that photo was a tad hostile?

I didn't think it was physically possible, but this both sucks and blows. -Bart Simpson

Was hilarious. I was literally drinking coffee the first time I saw it and I almost choked.

On a side note, what I find interesting is I heard Levi say  that he was pretty sure that Sarah Palin knew they were having sex, more interesting  because she is a huge advocate  for abstinence only. but I won't know until the full interview airs.

Answer the questions bal :)

Bal, you've deliberately

Bal, you've deliberately cultivated a reputation for snarky comments and coming in on the other side of an argument, and then you wonder why no one recognizes when your comment is "tongue-in-cheek" or you're just joking.

I fully admit that, and I was being snarky.

just giving you a reminder on how you may be perceived.  Now would you rather have a chance to convince people or be snarky?

In refering to me you stated:

I just wanted to thank you for your most coherent comments that I have read from you to date.   I know you struggled neah suffered long and hard to work through the thought processes of your own logic to develop this masterpiece of wisdom!  lol

I Just wanted you to know your hard work has not gone unappreciated and I look forward to more comments from you on any topic.  Again, fair wind and following seas for a job WELL DONE!

First thing, remember that his son is going to see him

giving this interview, someday. Discussing how his birth came to be, in such a tacky way. Cracking on his mom and grandmother. That is number one. Number two, he wants to see the kid more? Try getting a job, and paying some child support. Everyone knows here that I am intimately familiar with teens and pregnancy. My son in law knows I would kick his a$$ over the moon if he ever did anything that made me mad. Grandmothers don't put up with no horse shirt. Luckily, my s-i-l is a good guy, they have been married 3 yrs, and he takes care of my daughter and the two kids to the best of his ability, and  yes, he is sometimes immature. Big surprise, as he just turned 20. I imagine that Levi's great dope dealing mom got this brillant idea. No wonder the Palin's don't want him around. I just hope for the baby's sake that Bristol  is brighter than she comes across, because with those dimwattage genes from the Johnstons, this baby may be in trouble. Levi is a cute kid, I see the attraction, one of those popular boys in school, the Al Bundy type, who ends up being a washed up loser. For the poor kid's sake, I hope not, and also hope when Bristol's big brother comes back from war, he takes Dear Levi out and teaches him how to treat his sister, and all girls, in the future.

shawn, picky I know, but

shawn, picky I know, but it's his son, not his daughter.

I don't think he's a punk.  I think he is just an 18-year-old, with all the maturity and immaturity that entails. I agree with you that Warner may have been a tad hard on the lad....

Peace, Warner!!!!   LOL

MB-see my rant above

I guess cause I just lived it, and also because I married a jerk the first time around, way too early, and was dumb enough to have kids with him, I don't cut them any slack. I think anyone who makes a baby, needs to grow the hell up, quickly. As for being a punk, I think so. He described himself on Facebook as a hell-raising, f'ing redneck. I think Levi KNOWS what he is. LOL. Plus, no way would my grandkids go to Granny Feel Good Johnston's house. Over my dead body. Hopefully, Bristol will buy a clue, and get smarter, get educated, take care of her baby, and move on. She should also hit Levi up for as much $$ as she can get from his Tyra appearance.

MSNBC just aired a bit of

MSNBC just aired a bit of the Tyra show with Levi and he did kind of
come off as a punk IMO.  They also aired a statement by Palin in which
she said that she was just sorry that Levi and his family were seeking
fortune, fame.......instead of thinking of what is best for the
child.  I tend to agree with her.

Politico's Ben Smith on Gov. Palin

Smith appears to fault the staff of Gov. Sarah Palin, R-AK, herself for directing Palin toward tabloid news instead of more serious news. As evidence for this, Smith notes that Palin declined comment on the Iowa Supreme Court's marriage ruling, but took time out to criticize her daughter's ex-fiance.

Biden's daughter & Cocaine? She was setup!

Biden's daughter & Cocaine? She was setup!  (so says the MSM)

But we should pay attention to Palin's kids! (so says the MSM)

Funny how the 2008 campaign is over but they keep taking swipes at Palin.  This BS is right out of "Rules for Radicals".

  1. Pick the target.
  2. Freeze it.
  3. Personalize it.
  4. Polarize it.

How much more evidence do we need that Sarah will clobber any Dem in 2012 ?  Why else would teh MSM put effort into attacking her in 2009 ?

True, I just gave a long explanation on my feelings

on the Bristol/Levi situation, only because the media keeps dragging it out. As for Biden's daughter, I don't care what she does, nor hold Biden accountable for it, any more than I do Palin accountable for Bristol. I don't know whether the Biden girl snorts coke, or not, that would be a legal matter, but what is fair for one, should be fair for another. IOW, shut up MSM about all family members of politicians.

So, if Levi is a punk(and

So, if Levi is a punk(and I'm not saying he isn't), what does that make Bristol? Last I heard she consented to this casual conception with a jobless, high school dropout, also without regard to her boyfriend's future or family.

Interesting side note(or maybe not)....Their baby and I share the same birthday, December 27.

Exactly! As I said above, she doesn't seem to be the brightest bulb on the christmas tree, but she just may be shy and not a very good public speaker. However, I give her good marks for having the baby, and for taking care of it. He seems destined to stay white trash, and judging from his mom, he doesn't know much of anything else.

~It's a pity

I hope Bristol finds a good man when she grows up. She's learning a bitter lesson in judgement. Reality is a b!tch when it sinks in like that.

I think she'll be much more discriminating from here on out.

That high-pitched scream you hear is the troll under my heel.

Agree, chose. Hopefully this has been a 'character-building'

exercise and she will come out the better for it!  It hurts to have to watch it all play out in public - however, what more can we expect from the biased liberal msm!

We can all recall how those very same BIASED LIBERAL organizations let  a PRESIDENTIAL candidate, John Edwards, an educated, supposedly mature individual, skate with nothing more than a sentence or two of his infidelity and child out of wedlock story.  But let's focus on these teens!!!

BIASED??????????????????

It is no dishonor to be in a minority in the cause of liberty and virtue. ~ Sam Adams

~Yeah

Poor girl, what a rude awakening. Having a baby is stressful enough without everything else that's happened. I'm glad she has such a great family to support her.

As for the media, what goes around comes around! Too bad about all those news ratings swirling the drain and the Times about to go bankrupt, huh? :-)

That high-pitched scream you hear is the troll under my heel.

this is not news

This would have been beneath the AP years ago.  Should have been, anyway.  It shouldn't even be gossip in the family.  Yet here it all is.  I did not like it when Palin's daughter did the talk show thing - and I think this boy is just as irresponsible to do so.  I have no detailed knowledge of these people (nor do I want to) so I don't know why this young man should be labeled 'punk' but it seems unkind.  (edited for grammar - *sigh*)

So much for the Good Parenting Theory

Taken out by Tyra Banks too? I had no idea a train wreck could be this bad.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is Not Pollution

~PT, for once we agree

Levi's mother and father are lousy parents.

~oh snap.

Hahahahaha..that is so gay.

All together now....."Not that there's anything wrong with that!"

While I do think this

While I do think this reporting of Palin's daughter's Ex is helping to skirt attention away from Obama's G20 trip, there is another reason it's happening and will continue to happen:

The Dems and the MSM are scared Shi-less that Palin is going to run for the presidency in 2012. She has some sort of pac currently.

The left is scared because they saw how the conservative base responded to her...EXCITEMENT!! And they simply can't have this! These attacks on Palin (and family) will only get worse.

But take heart; the more these malcontents attack her, the more they'll solidify the GOP (this does NOT include Moderates and RINOS!!)!

Bring it on Statists...I smell your fear!

Preach it bro! Beware of the trolls & libs on this site tho'

Keep it comin' on & keep the fire burnin' :)

Sarah Palin's daughter's

Sarah Palin's daughter's sex life provides valuable insight into Governor Palin's political worthiness.

On the other hand, Dear Leader's troubling radical associations and nonexistent life history/documentation, scandals, ACORN, etc. has nothing to do with saving America...as only He can.

I get it.

One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 61% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory (yep...approval for Congress now at 39%...do you believe that!?).
