Back on January 29, we discussed the daily strategy phone call engineered by Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel for friendly TV commentators and "reporters." Politico reported that Emanuel has a daily phone conference call with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, and CNN's James Carville and Paul Begala. With Rush Limbaugh's raucous CPAC address, as he termed it his "first address to the nation," we can see at least one example of what is likely an attack strategy resulting from the Emanuel phone session with a rush to bash Rush the day after the appearance. [Image credit: politico.com]
As soon as the sun rose on the day after Limbaugh's CPAC appearance, three of the four of the phone call participants attacked Limbaugh with the same talking points. It seems obvious that they coordinated their attack together in the Obama secret strategy session. It is amazing that a president's staff can have such power over major media figures without a peep being heard from those that only months ago bashed former presidents over a perceived undue, even "dangerous," control of the media.
The morning after Limbaugh's CPAC speech, Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel appeared on CBS News' Face the Nation and told Bob Schieffer that Limbaugh was the "voice of the Republican Party," and that he "hasn't stepped back from" the "hopes for failure" he expressed for Obama's administration.
James Carville, obeying his Obama marching orders, said pretty much the same thing in his CNN commentary headlined, "A history lesson for Rush Limbaugh," where Carville began by saying that Rush is the "moral and intellectual leader and most influential person in the Republican Party."
As for ABC's George Stephanopoulos, he employed the same talking point about Rush's hope that Obama's socialist policies would not succeed -- though it is sure that Stephy didn't call Obama's policies socialist. In an interview with Eric Cantor, Stephanopoulos said, "So the Rush Limbaugh approach of wanting the president to fail is not the Eric Cantor, House Republican approach?"
So, what we see here is the combined attack emanating out of the secret phone call strategy session pushing the themes that Rush is the "voice of the GOP" and that he wants Obama to be a failure -- both talking points that are not exactly in context with the facts. The strategy at work is that these three Democrat activists pretending at members of the media have concocted with the White House through Emanuel an effort to tar all Republicans with the Rush brush.
These Obama strategists think that making Rush the "voice of the GOP" will drive away moderates and make the GOP seem to be leaning toward right-wing extremism. And, by adding Rush's hope that Obama's socialist policies fail, these strategists are attempting to claim that Republicans hate Obama merely because he is president (veiled racism) and not because the GOP is against these unAmerican polices Obama is pushing.
Once again, I have to ask, why are these secret phone call strategy sessions not a matter of public discussion? That the White House is orchestrating media messages with the supposedly independent press corps, is it nothing to raise an eyebrow about? Should we not see this as the sort of collusion between the press and the White House that leads to public information controlled by political spinmieisters in the belly of the White House instead of journalists interested in truth? Where are those that only until recently claimed to be interested in a free press dedicated to the real story? Why are they so suddenly quite?
Lastly I’d like to suggest something. These folks are all eager to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine, of course. So, I am wondering if it would be “fair” that Rahm include a few conservatives in the secret phone sessions he has with his lap dog media pals? Let’s say along with Stephy, Carville and Begala, Rahm might include Rush and Sean Hannity?? Seems pretty fair to me, anyway!

That'll backfire on them. To far left wing socialists like those in the Obama administration may see Rush as a "right wing extremist" but Rush is not seen as a "right wing extremist" by the moderates. Rush is a voice of reason to most. Even if they succeed in making Rush the "voice of the GOP", thats a positive step. They're just hanging themselves on this.

Have all Presidents done this in one form or another? Perhaps we were shocked when we learned of the tapes Nixon had and then learned LBJ and Kenedy also did this. And now this President who has teh MSM in his back pocket is making war on Rush and all his enemies.
Now how legal is it to have MSM insiders and have them spread vicious lies and gossip, dunno. It is probabaly being done but what can we do about it?

March 2, 2009 - 04:56 ET by Warner Todd HustonTo my knowledge this is a far more personal effort than before. Sure there are taking points and press conferences, as well as private interviews between the press and the White House staffers and presidents of yore. But, I don't recall any group of journalists offered secret, closed and daily conference calls during other president's terms. If I am wrong, I'll have to be corrected but this seems out of the ordinary.

Two Americas
March 2, 2009 - 07:25 ET by jdlybrandDan, John Edwards used the catch phrase "Two Americas" in his campaign. I can definitely see two sets of rules here. One for the socialist Democrats and another for the rest of us. Seems there really are "Two Americas". The transparency they speak of is very opaque. Very frightening indeed!

March 2, 2009 - 05:07 ET by thebutlerdiditThey all know Rush doesn't give a rat's fuzzy rear about the Republican Party. They are using this as a means to influence those weinie-wafflers out there. Rush is the strongest voice of the Conservative movement, but he has daily harsh words for Republicans. They are employing more of the Alinsky rules, and they are afraid of Rush. Don't believe they aren't. Why are they afraid? Simply because they know he has such a large base, and they mainly don't want the contents of their plans and policies discussed openly. Might turn off the libs and the far-lefties, and the can't make up their own d@mn mind people, doncha know?

Obama has used every trick
March 2, 2009 - 07:17 ET by garyganuObama has used every trick in the book to get where he is today. Manipulation and deceit is the at the heart of his rise to power.
Now that he is president, it is expected that he will use these same tactics. Hopefully, he will go so over-the-top, that it will become obvious to all.
His "financial summit" was a clear case of over-reaching executive power, by blending the executive and legislative branches. The seperation of powers is a fundamental part of our constitutional government and its checks and balances.
Do they teach this in school anymore?
If the executive branch is also exerting influence over the media, we are on the way to becoming a totalitarian state.
Why don't liberals understand when Rush says "I hope Obama Fails".
It would have been unpopular in pre-war Germany to say I hope Hitler fails. Or to say to pre-communist Cuba, I hope Castro fails. Or to say in Venezuela, I hope Chavez fails, or to say in Zimbabwee, I hope Mugabe fails.
If Obama succeeds, apparently with help from the media, America will fail.

It was CPAC
March 2, 2009 - 07:38 ET by richb313It was CPAC(Conservative Political Action Conference) that Rush spoke at, not the Republican Convention so the pre-text is phony to begin with. Libitarians as well as Republicans, and Conservative Democrats and Independents were in Attendance. It could be equally said that Rush is the voice of the Democratic, Libitarian insert favorite group here any Party with equal validity. Since Republicans are supposed to be a Party of Conservatives there might be a case to be made but CPAC is not and never has been a Republican Party Event. It is a Conservative event. It is a fact that most members are Republican but not all. A CPAC endorsement is highly sought after by Republicans such as when John McCain when he was running for President, but John McCain has never been a darling of CPAC.
The reason that the MSM and the White House want RUSH to be seen as the "Leader or Voice of the Republican Party" is just an attempt to scare the Republican Leadership. It has scared the Leadership of the Republican Party but not for the reasons being spoken of in the MSM. The 17 to 20 million listeners to the Rush Limbaugh show find out what is happening in politics and call thier Representatives and they are angry. Remember how the switch boards and E-Mails were so overloaded that the systems ccould not handle the volume of the traffic when the Stimulus Bill was coming up for a vote in the House? The Republicans were not listening to Rush they were listening to thier chances for re-election evaporate and all of a sudden they got a backbone and stood on Principle.
This is just another attempt by the White House with Obama trying to silence and make unimportant the opinions or will of the American People.
It could be equally said

CPAC not Republicans
March 2, 2009 - 08:57 ET by richb313Look the whole RUSH is the leader of the Republican Party is silly. He was the featured speaker at CPAC which has no PARTY affiliation so by that logic since there are BLUE DOG DEMOCRATS(Conservative) He could also be said to be the Voice of the Democratic Party. The logic that is being used by the MSM is faulty to begin with so I reduced the argument to the absurd to prove the point.
It's just an apples and oranges thing, OK.
When Paul Harvey dies,
March 2, 2009 - 07:42 ET by ThisnThatWhen Paul Harvey dies, leftists gloat that his audience was millions more than Rush's -- implying, of course, that Rush Limbaugh is just an insignificant insect.
Now, when Rush gives a speech at CPAC, leftists attack from all sides -- recognizing that Rush Limbaugh is a powerhouse conservative.
Conclusion: When leftists hear anything, their only response is to react emotionally. No thinking; no logic; no grey matter whatsoever. They have no morals, no standards, no principles. Only reactive emotion. They are pathetic creatures, and they will bring down this country if we continue to give them the chance.

Government control of the media
March 2, 2009 - 08:08 ET by Blogger Guy00001The left used to accuse Republicans of sending talking points to talk radio hosts. As always, whatever the left accuses us of doing is exactly what they are doing themselves.

RULE 5: "Ridicule is man's most potent weapon." There is no defense. It's irrational. It's infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.
RULE 8: "Keep the pressure on. Never let up." Keep trying new things to keep the opposition off balance. As the opposition masters one approach, hit them from the flank with something new.
RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it." Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.

The Dems keep trying one tactic after another to discredit and marginalize Limbaugh. Because they mostly do not have viable arguments, the Dems typically utilize ad homenium attacks against him. Sooner or later, the facts of Limbaugh's words have a way of slipping out to the masses and the Dems will be tarnished.
Given the soon to be felt destructive impact of Obama and his fellow Dem's policies, only an idiot could snatch losing from the jaws of victory. (eg McCain) Is Michael Steele the man to help prevent another political debacle while promoting proven Conservative values during and after elections?
