Obama Disses Brits, Will Media Miss?

  • Bookmark and Share

Barack Obama loves Lincoln. It seems not a day goes by that he isn't quoting the Civil War icon or comparing himself to that great man. But it looks like we are finding one great leader that Barack Obama doesn't like so much: Winston Churchill.

It appears that President Obama is dissing the Brit's most famous and stalwart leader by quickly returning the most famous bust of the man loaned to this country by the United Kingdom in the aftermath of 9//11. The return of the bust of Churchill flustered the British government because they didn't ask for it to be returned. Our best ally was nonplussed and even quickly told Obama he could keep it in the Oval Office where Bush had displayed the piece of art. Obama told them no thanks which made the Brits even more amazed.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

So, Barack Obama, the man that would "fix" our "bad image" with the rest of the world, we were told by the media, has just dissed Churchill after only a month in office? And, according to one of the only stories I can find on this incident, the British government has been made nervous about the relationship between England and the U.S. because of the casual return of their generously loaned Churchill bust.

I mean, this abrupt return of the Churchill statue is sort of odd. Would it have hurt anything to keep the thing? After all, it made the Brits feel good and American's have a connection to Churchill, too (besides WWII). His mother was from our shores after all.

Whatever the case may be, the bust now sits in the home of the British ambassador in Washington D.C.

Now I wonder if anyone in the U.S. media will bother to report on an incident that that has caused diplomatic consternation, an incident perpetrated by the Obammessiah himself.

Again... wasn't Obama the one that was going to make every ally ecstatically happy?

It looks more like Freddy Kruger (sans mask) than Winston Churchill.

It looks like the 'artist' was a quadripalegic using his teeth to carve the mold! I've seen more attractive work done by beavers.

I still would have kept it out of respect for the man and the country he honored with his service.

In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.

Obama should have taken it all the way

Why didn't Obama go all the way and request a bust of Neville Chamberlain?  He has a lot in common with the man synonymous with appeasement.

When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.

Obama = Chamberlain

No doubt that Obama is not fond of Churchill's famous 'appeaser' quote.

Obama will have his own

Obama will have his own bust there soon. That's the plan.

Churchill, as we know, fought with the lefists in the UK all through the latter 1930's. He warned them time and again about the coming threat from Hitler's National Socialist government. He begged them to arm themselves, to prepare for possible war, to pull their heads out of their butts, in other words.

It wasn't until the German bombs started dropping out of the sky on London that the leftists stopped mocking Churchill and realized how wrong they had been.

So, as the leader of the National Socialist party in the US, Obama, understandably, is very uncomfortable with Winston Churchill. Makes him feel nervous, ya know?

To have the full support of the MSM.  You can screw up anything and nary a word will be written about it.  Think of the comparison between Obama and Bush.  Bush couldn't wipe his nose without being called a liar, murderer, etc. by the kooks on the left.  Thin skinned Obama won't have to worry about any of that.

Yep, Unprepared that is what this incident shows. The great one is unprepared to deal with U.S. affairs with our allies and enemies alike. When he even flubs the most basic moves in international affairs it makes you wonder how much more lacking in real world experience is the President. All of his moves so far have appeared to me to be the Stumbling and Bumbling of which President GWB was so much accused of. All the Democratic issues of why they hated GWB are evident in Barak's administration so far. Obama's dealing with the press, his complete disrepect of public opinion on the so called Economic Stimulous (Democrat Alliance Payback Act) and on and on. It is Barak Obama, not GWB, that is proving to be the real dunce in the White House, go figure.

Churchill vs. B. Hussein

Churchhill was an intelligent, highly educated, courageous, honest man who never said "uh" when asked a question. His quick wit is legendary. His writing is brilliant. All these qualities are the direct opposite of Barry Obama who has average intelligence, has a modern left-wing "education", is weak, and says "uh" to everything. I've never read his book, but I suspect it cannot hold a candle to the works of Churchill. No wonder B. Hussein doesn't want Winston's bust in the Oval Office. But Barry won the election, and will be using this fact to display his ignorance for years to come.

Remarkably two conservative

Remarkably, two conservative British Prime Minsiters in the second half of the 20th Century had American mothers. The other was Harold McMillan.

Of course, I seem to recall that seven US presidents also had British mothers.

And McMillan was also the possessor of a sharp wit. This could have been delivered to Obama...

When asked by a journalist what was most likely to blow governments off course, McMillan replied in typical laconic style: "Events dear boy, events."

Three weeks in, and Obama has been blown, and not in the Clinton style either. Only 205 weeks to go for the Communiser-in-Chief.

The story is that Churchill visited FDR when both were yound lads. They were swimming in a pool when Churchill suddenly had cramps or something that caused him to call for help. Jenny Jacobson Churchill ( Winston's mother ) 1854 - 1921

She was born in Brooklyn, New York. Her father was a financier, owner of NY Times, involved in Broadway and horse tracks. Her socialite mother took the daughters to Paris to find royalty. She met Lord Randolph at Cowes during the yachting festival. She became pregnant and her father paid Lord Randolph a sum of $ 2.5 mil ( 2004 equivalent ). As soon as this settlement was reached they were married, on 15 April 1874 at the British embassy in Paris.

Facts Omitted

To quote the story from the Telegraph:

"It was during Churchill's second premiership that Britain suppressed Kenya's Mau Mau rebellion. Among Kenyans allegedly tortured by the colonial regime included one Hussein Onyango Obama, the President's grandfather. "

As we can see the Telegraph gave the reader the whole story as to why Obama returned the bust.  It seems that Mr. Huston has omitted this key fact from his report.  Shame, Shame.

Maybe it's because the

Maybe it's because the British burned down the White House in 1814.

By the way -- the "Mau Mau" were terrorists. And I believe the word you are grasping for is "defeated" not "suppressed."

Of course, that is what Churchill is most fondly remembered for: defeating a gang of depraved killers in Kenya. That whole Nazi thing was just a minor diversion, hardly worth mentioning old boy.

"I am NOT a tax crook!"
Thomas Milhous Daschle

If I remember my African

If I remember my African Studies course from University- I remember that the Mau Mau fought against having their lands seized by Colonists who used them as tenant farmers.  The individuals had no rights whatsoever to the land that they previously called their own.  They made no contract with the colonists to sell the land; it was taken from them by brute force.

Finally, the point is not to defend the ideology of the Mau Mau but to point out the fact that Mr. Huston omitted a key fact that would have gave the reader a little better background on why the bust was dismissed from the White House. Nice try chap.

Why would a president be

Why would a president be arrogant enough to unnecessarily put the reputation of the most powerful country in the world at stake solely for his own, personal, familial reasons?  You're right, that fact was omitted but it only makes what Obama did even more insulting.  It proves the fact that he has ulterior motives that he will use to his own good.  He doesn't give a crap about "change".  He holds childish grudges. I might have to mail him a blanket and baby bottle if he keeps this up.

If you tried to defend Obama there, you did so very poorly.

i have a usps account

"I might have to mail him a blanket and baby bottle if he keeps this up."  i'll be glad to spring for the postage!

as someone who campaigned on the premise that he would "rebuild america's image" around the world, he's certainly off to a great start, isn't he?  "childish" is a huge understatement, but yes, using the white house for his "own, personal" motives is what he's all about.  his presidency has not been and will never be about what is best for america!

"When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle." Edmund Burke

Britain was the colonialist

Britain was the colonialist power. Sure. However, it was well on its way to decolonializing the Empire by the 1950s.

As I understand it, the "Mau Mau" were of the KIKUYU tribe. Obama's dad was a Lua tribe.

What any of this has to do with a bust of Churchill is way above my pay grade. Obama is an AMERICAN is he not?

Sounds like aload of shite to me.

"I am NOT a tax crook!"

Get a grip

Get a grip, Sterling. That was no "key fact." No one from Obama's administration has said that Obama gave back the bust because of Churchill's Kenya policy! That little segment you excerpted was the newspaper's conjecture. I notice you left THAT "key fact" out of YOUR comment!!

Further more, I did NOT say anything like "we don't know why" he gave the bust back, either. I did not speculate on why it was given back at all.

So, your criticism is off the mark and immaterial to my posting.

I'll accept your apology now.

Conjecture?

Oh my conjecture- that is quite funny coming from the gentleman who wrote a whole story based on conjecture.  Firstly, you claimed that he “dissed” England and Churchill by giving the bust back- yet you gave no reason as to why he would give the bust back.  If I remember my University English classes back in the day is not a reporter to ask: Who, What, Where, and Why?  It seems that the Telegraph gave the answers to all of the above stated the questions- yet you omitted the why.  Yes, it makes me wonder sir.

Common Courtesey

Firstly, you claimed that he “dissed” England and Churchill by giving the bust back- yet you gave no reason as to why he would give the bust back.

Returning a gift (or a loan in this case) is an insult, whatever the reason. Therefore, the Obama Administration has insulted our staunchest ally. The reason doesn't matter.

It seems that the Telegraph gave the answers to all of the above stated the questions- yet you omitted the why.

As no reason was given by the Obama administration, anything printed is conjecture on the part of the publisher.
If the President returned the bust due to the Prime Minister's involvement in putting down the Mau Mau uprising - then he is guilty of the same pettiness that his predecessor was wrongly accused of (that of invading Iraq because Saddam Hussein tried to kill the President's father).

From the Chicago Sun-Times, 9/9/07:

...Hussein Onyango Obama worked for the white oppressors during the period of colonial rule in Kenya, first supervising rode crews and later working in a white man's home, after a two-week walk to Nairobi...

...Obama's grandfather also served as cook for a British officer during World War II.

After hearing his step-grandmother's account, Obama writes that he was shattered, wondering whether his dead grandfather was an "Uncle Tom. Collaborator. House n-----." ...

Yup.  You read right, an Uncle Tom House n-----.  Beautiful, isn't it?  It almost brings a tear to my eye.  That must have been from the section of the book I failed to read.  I was getting so ticked off when reading Obama's book I couldn't finish it.  I got as far as the chapter where he listened to Rev. Wright's Audacity of Hope sermon and it brought a tear to his eye.  The whole book is nothing but racist crap!

Churchill statue

I have some questions that the MSM won't ask:

Why are you returning the statue?

What is it about the statue that you don't like?

How do you plan to give the statue back and repair the damaged relations with the Brits?

Is this about going to pre 9/11 mentality?

Is this about not having anything that the Bush administration received?

If so, why not donate the statue to the new Bush Library?

Are you going to send a bust of yourself to the Brits as mitigated damages?

-

Obama and his Kenyan/African roots trump Britain.  Seems pretty cut and dried to me.

The Times.Co.Uk wrote on this in January.  And more recently the Brits haven't had much nice to say about him calling the porkification of our nation a "spend-a-thon" and making mention of pretty much the Top 10 embarrassing moments of his first month in office.  "[It] just gives us more reason to pull out of Afghanistan now", says one brit.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.  -Edmund Burke

You know how proud Obama is

You know how proud Obama is of his family. Especially his half-brother living on $12/year in a shanty home on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya. Or his aunt, living illegally in South Boston in public housing after an immigration judge rejected her request for asylum four years ago. Real family roots, those Obamas.

And those are the family ties that are stronger than Obama's patriotism? Somehow -- that is very, very believable.

Oh my, where should I ever

Oh my, where should I ever begin?  Firstly, asking Mr. Obama to have a bronze bust of Churchill in the White House who his Kenyan relatives thought of as a butcher is like asking; let us say for arguments sake, JFK having a bronze bust of Prime Minister The Lord John Russell in his White House.

Secondly, Churchill was a bit overrated.  Most of our problems today can be traced back to England’s imperialism; which Churchill was a staunch supporter of.  Whether it be the India-Pakistan problem, Israel- Palestine problem, Iraq problem, Iran problem, or the continuing problem on the African Continent; England has been the root of most of the problems.  Sure Churchill stood against Fascism with courage but he was a faulty leader.

Finally, by omitting the fact, Mr. Huston was hoping that the reader would assume that Mr. Obama returned the bust of Churchill for other reasons.  Let us play the rhetoric game, Churchill stood tall against Fascism in World War II, Mr. Obama gave the English back the bust of Churchill, thus Obama does not believe in fighting against injustice.  Thanks to the Telegraph though, we really know that this is not the case.

Secondly, Churchill was a

Secondly, Churchill was a bit overrated (sic).

No he wasn't. He was the greatest man of the 20th Century. And if it wasn't for Winston Churchill, Europe would be under the jackboot of something like Year 70 of the Third Reich.

The idea that the current India-Pakistan problem is the "fault" of Britain is absurd, and revisionist. Why not blame Gandhi while you're at it?

Obama is an AMERICAN is he not. Why should anything to do with a 3rd country SIXTY YEARS AGO have any affect on the relationship with the US closest ally for over 100 years. That's nuts.

What next, he returns a gift from Spain because of the way the Conquistadors brutalaized native Indians in what is now Mexico.

Oh please, to say that we

Oh please, to say that we would be under Nazi rule without Churchill is a preposterous notion.  America won World War II, no matter how much the Euro-trash want to say otherwise, it was our military commanders and warriors who put a boot straight up Hitler’s bum.  All Churchill did was give flowery little speeches and told his nation to hide in the subways. Churchill wanted the main invasion to go through Italy and thought the Normandy invasion was counterproductive; His commanders were made fools of in North Africa by Rommel, and let us not forget the quagmire call Dunkirk.

Sounds to me that you sir are the one with revisionist history. Once again reason always defeats pure emotional arguments.

The Third Reich were comprised of socialist's-communist's who believed in the master race.

The German's and Russian's were basically having a turf war- power struggle on who's version of Marxism was the best.

thanks blazer -- it is that

thanks blazer -- it is that simple. The UK was fighting against Germany alone since Sept 3, 1939.

Here's the thing some people don't seem to understand. efore Churcjiil, the people running the government were CHAMBERLAIN acolytes. Yoo know. the APPEASER?

Churchill would have gone down with a Tommy Gun iin hand on the steps of Downing Street.

You think Baldwin or whoever took over from Chamberlain (other than Churchill) would not have sued for peace, at some point. It was only CHURCHILL who galvinized the country to never surrender.

Without him, America would not have been in a position to ensure victory. Churchill said just about that on Dec 11, 1941 when America entered the war against the monstrous tyranny.

blazer -- HELD THE LINE...

blazer -- HELD THE LINE... a great military metaphor.

There are so many moments in history where a smaller military force HAD to hold the line so that the main forces could be moved into place. Reinforcements called in. The counter attack planned and executed.

That was the situation perfectly.  Churchill knew that he had to hold the line until the American cavalary could ride over the ridge and save the Fortress from falling.

How anyone can dismiss Churchill (and by extension the entire British nation) over this is beyond my understanding.

My family was BLITZED during the war. My grandparents cowered in bomb-shelters as the Luftwaffe bombed Liverpool -- the main gateway to America. The first port of call for US servicemen as they came to the rescue from 42-45. Many never returned home from Liverpool as they fell on a foreign field in France, Belgium, Germany.

And the idea that my people were trash -- and didn't care for these wonderful yanks who they opned their homes and hearts too?  My god, that's a shameful accusation. It makes my blood boil.

WWII

"America won World War II, no matter how much the Euro-trash want to say otherwise, it was our military commanders and warriors who put a boot straight up Hitler’s bum"

Here are probably the 5 most important battles of WWII.

Stalingrad

Midway

Moscow

D-Day

Battle of Britain.

Out of those 5, only 2 involved Americans.  The Battle of Britain was very important, because that was the first defeat for the Nazis.  They had not been defeated prior to that battle.  They also lost a large number of planes which they probably needed for Opeartion Barbarossa.

The British were also very important in N. Africa.  The Battle of El-Alamein won by Montgomery over Rommel pushed the Nazis out of Africa.

The British were also involved in the Battle of Crete.  Although Crete was taken by the Nazis, the Nazis lost a large number of elite paratroopers.  This loss of elite fighters greatly affected the Nazis later as they couldn't replace them.

William Slim a British General in the South Pacific was also very instrumental in defeating the Japanese.  In my opinion he was probably the best British general of WW2.

Also, at Dunkirk, it was the British who rescued the stranded soldiers there.  Just about anything that could float was used by the British to rescue soldiers.  These soldiers were then available to fight later in the war.

Now the problem I have with the Europeans is that they don't seem to care about the role the United States played in Europe after the conclusion of WW2.  Stalin also had plans for taking over Europe, and without the Americans staying in Europe, I firmly believe all of Western Europe would have been just like the countries in Eastern Europe behind the Iron Curtain.

Hey Karl -- as usual a bang

Hey Karl -- as usual a bang up military analysis!

It is fun playing the "what ifs," but I think you'll agree with me that the Battle of Britain was the most important Battle of World War 2 in this sense: it enabled  Britain to hang on till the yanks came a comin'.

No Britain, no D-Day. No hope for Europe.

Churchill hinself commenting that until the US came to the allied cause, he couldn't see how he could defeat Nazi Germnay, and once they entered he could not see how he could lose.

And that's not even mentioning the massive aid arranged by FDR unofficially prior to the official US wat effort.

As to post-war Europe, it is a shame that most Euros are profoundly ignorant of how America saved them from the joys of the communist paradise and Stalin's jackboot.  Starting with the Berlin airlift.

"I am NOT a tax crook!"
Thomas Milhous Daschle

"it enabled  Britain to

"it enabled  Britain to hang on till the yanks came a comin'."

Correct.  If Britain loses, Western Europe is finished and the Americans can't do much.

Another important contribution of the British was their navy.  Johnny Horton couldn't have had that great hit without the British sinking the Bismark.  The Italians also had some real fancy battleships that they were real proud of, and the British Navy did a number on those battleships.

Here is a good link in regards to Churchill and the Few.

He made a choice

All Obammy had to do was ask one of his servants in the White House to take the bust and place it in storage for the rest of his Presidency. There is more furniture in White House storage than there is in the White House. This was not about Obammy's conscience. Instead he CHOSE to send it back to the British. He CHOSE to insult them.

Mr. Huston was hoping that the reader would assume...

You mean not read through the article, the linked articles, look up the basic history and make a personal evalution based on the facts available?

nah we leave that to the trolls.

JFK having a bronze bust

JFK having a bronze bust of Prime Minister The Lord John Russell in his White House.

Oh please, learn SOME history.

Did you know that the Pipe Band of the British Army Regiment, THE BLACK WATCH led the funeral procession for President John Fitzgerald Kennedy (God rest his soul) from the White House to the Cathedral?

You rmember those Brits, they fought in the American Revolutionary War -- on the OTHER side.

"I am NOT a tax crook!"

The Black Watch is Scottish

The Black Watch is Scottish Sir, A Scot would slap you in the face for calling them British

What a DOPE. The Black Watch

What a DOPE. The Black Watch was a regiment in the BRITISH ARMY.

Maybe, but most who have

Maybe, but most who have served would say that they fought for Scotland.  Just like the Ulster Riffles would say that they fought for Ulster.

This is just pathetic.

This is just pathetic. WHATEVER -- I invalidated your idiotic defense.

The fact is this: members of the US's former colonialist enemy army led the procession at JFK's funeral. Scots, English, Welsh and Irish all fought in the BRITISH ARMY against the American Continental Army.

The Hessians did not fight as regulars in the British Army.

"I am NOT a tax crook!"
Thomas Milhous Daschle

You are now officially

You are now officially boring me.  I keep mentioning evidence and all you can come up with is nonsense.  So I guess the Black Watch is not Scottish.  I guess the name United Kingdom means absolutely nothing to you.  Seeing that it is a Kingdom of different states united.  Kind of like the name United States.  Ask a man from Texas in a foreign land where he is from he would say Texas not America.  Ask a Scot where he is from he would say Scotland not England.

Also how did we get to talking about the Revolutionary War; I thought we were talking about Churchill.  As far as I know Churchill had nothing to do with the American Revolution?

Then again, you cannot compete with facts and theory you must start the personal attacks- real nice.

-Regards

P.S. You never adressed The Lord John Russell- I guess you have no clue who he is.  Hint Wikipedia Irish Potato Famine.  I do hope your not like Dan Quayle and misspell potato.

You are an official bozo.

You are an official bozo. And an ignorant one too. You cannot maintain a coherent line of thought.

Who did America fight against in the Revolutionary War?  From which country did the US win its independence? HINT: GREAT BRITAIN.

Which Army had the honor of leading the procession for the funeral of JFK. HINT: The British Army. Not the Scottish Army. There is NO Scottish Army. There hasn't been one since 1726. HINT: The Act of Union.

The Britsh Army has long cherished its local regimental structure.  But it is still the BRITISH ARMY.  And you're dimwitted mythical silly twittering about where a Scotsman says he's from are utterly irrelevant. It's BOGUS.

Churchill's ancestors did.

Churchill's ancestors did. More African's have been slaughtered and continue to be slaughtered by their fellow corrupt despot's and Marxist African's like Obama's cousin the notorious murderer Raila Odinga, than Churchills ancestors could ever hoped to have.

This sentiment is no different than saying we should be reprimanded because our ancestors owned slaves although we disagree vehemently with that institution, or that the Jew's should continue to be persecuted because a few of them were responsible for the crusifying of Christ.

I've never heard Obama speak ill of the dictator's and corruptocrats in many African countries, have you?

The fact of the matter is, he could have put the bust in storage if he was so intimidated by greatness he surely will never achieve.

Your college years

...were seriously wasted, my dear.  Oh my, where should I ever begin?  Firstly, Obama's tribe was not subjugated or butchered by Churchill.  In fact, Obama's tribe enbraced English civilization.

Wikipedia:

Colonial times

Early British contact with the Luo was indirect and sporadic. Relations intensified only when the completion of the Uganda Railway had confirmed British intentions and largely removed the need for local tribal alliances. In 1896 a punitive expedition was mounted in support of the Wanga ruler Mumia in Ugenya against the Umira Kager clan led by Gero. Over 200 were quickly killed by a Maxim gun. In 1899, C. W. Hobley led an expedition against Sakwa, Seme and Uyoma locations in which 2,500 cattle and about 10,000 sheep and goats were captured.

By 1900, the Luo chief Odera was providing 1,500 porters for a British expedition against the Nandi.

In 1915 the Colonial Government sent Odera Akang'o, the ruoth of Gem, to Kampala, Uganda. He was impressed by the British settlement there and upon his return home he initiated a forced process of adopting western styles of "schooling, dress and hygiene". This resulted in the rapid education of the Luo in the English language and English ways.

The Luo generally were not dispossessed of their land by the British, avoiding the fate that befell the pastoral tribes inhabiting the Kenyan "White Highlands". Many Luo played significant roles in the struggle for Kenyan independence, but the tribe was relatively uninvolved in the Mau Mau Uprising of the 1950s. Instead, some Luo used their education to advance the cause of independence peacefully. The lawyer C.M.G. Argwings-Kodhek, for example, used his expertise to defend Mau Mau suspects in court.

Second, as it was pointed out above, the Luo were not involved in the Mau Mau Uprising.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mau_Mau_Uprising

Oh yeah, do you know what happened after the uprising?

Political and social concessions by the British

Despite the fact that the British military had won a clear victory, Kenyans had been granted nearly all of the demands made by the KAU in 1951 as the carrot to the military's stick. In June 1956, a program of villagization and land reform consolidated the land holdings of the Kikuyu, thereby increasing the number of Kikuyu allied with the colonial government. This was coupled with a relaxation of the ban on Africans growing coffee, a primary cash crop, leading to a dramatic rise in the income of small farmers over the next ten years.

In the cities the colonial authorities decided to dispel tensions after Operation Anvil by raising urban wages, thereby strengthening the hand of moderate union organizations like the KFRTU. By 1956, the British had granted direct election of African members of the Legislative Assembly, followed shortly thereafter by an increase in the number of African seats to fourteen. A Parliamentary conference in January 1960 indicated that the British would accept "one person — one vote" majority rule.

These political measures were taken to end the instability of the Uprising by appeasing Africans both in the cities and country and encouraging the creation of a stable African middle class, but also required the abandonment of settler interests. This was possible because while the settlers dominated the colony politically, they owned less than 20% of the assets invested in Kenya. The remainder belonged to various corporations who were willing to deal with an African majority government as long as the security situation stabilized. The choice that the authorities in London faced was between an unstable colony, which was costing a fortune in military expenses, run by settlers who contributed little to the economic growth of the Empire, or a stable colony run by Africans that contributed to the coffers of the Empire. The latter option was the one, in effect, taken.

And to think, your parent's hard earned money was wasted on propoganda.

Like I said before, If you

Like I said before, If you guys are going to spend the next four years whining about every little factoid of  liberal bias, you're going to miss the opportunity be of some worth to conservatism. For instance, there are times when NOT highlighting the reason for doing something is "diplomatic" and not "bias". I realize you hate Obama, I can't stand him myself, but in this case you're wrong. There is a reason that Obama returned the bust, and highlighting that reason could actually CREATE an international incident, when simply returning the bust and ACCEPTING another gift in the next diplo-jaunt, will clean up any "hard feelings".

If you had done your due diligence, something we rightfully decry of the MSM, you would have discovered that Churchill's forces TORTURED Obama's GRANDFATHER.

Churchill has less happy connotations for Mr Obama than those American politicians who celebrate his wartime leadership. It was during Churchill's second premiership that Britain suppressed Kenya's Mau Mau rebellion. Among Kenyans allegedly tortured by the colonial regime included one Hussein Onyango Obama, the President's grandfather.

It seems the Brits know full well why the bust was returned. Perhaps in your zeal to condemn Obama you forgot to do your job? Sounds awfully MSM to me, to put this out there without the quite LOGICAL explanation.

You Don't

Insult your allies because of something that happened peripherally to your family 60 years ago. A leader is supposed to show his political astuteness and judgement if this is the real reason then this is just vindictive childish immature stupidity on Obama's part.

BTW how about all those Southern Democrats who stood and stood by while blacks were terrorized and lynched in the 20's and 30's I am sure there may be some relatives of them in congress or reminders somewhere of those folks maybe some pictures on the wall of great oppressors of blacks and slave owners. Andrew Jackson, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson come to mind what is he going to do about them.

I meant to amend my comment about the childish immature part thinking that there may have been some other reason he returned the bust, that he didn't have the smarts to do it on his own and that there was another hidden agenda going on maybe showing solidarity with his Labour Party brethren in Britain who, just like the U.S. kind hate their country and deny their history for some Socialist Utopia(See Sterling's comments above for confirmation of this line of reasoning). Naw, he is stupid childish and immature or exceedingly ignorant or arrogant or all the above. Either way we are in for the ride of a lifetime. I hope it doesn't beget violence.

Update, 15 Feb 2009: Due to extreme pettiness and hypersensitive to perceived racial slights, Obama insults our closest ally -- Great Britian -- based upon an ancient incident that did not affect him personnally, and for which no one -- and I mean no one -- has the exact story or circumstances.

So, Obama is willing to throw away any chance of good will based upon his own, personal believe that Winston Churchill personally and delibertly ordered the torturing of his grandfather??? Does Obama know the meaning of oppositional defiant disorder (ODD)? This man needs a mental health checkup. He's just as liable to launch a nuclear missile at someone because of some other perceived sleight!

Obama will have his ownFebruary 15, 2009 - 11:46 ET by celator

For many years now we have
preached “the gospel,” in opposition to the philosophy of so-called
liberalism which was, in truth, a call to collectivism. Ronald Reagan--1976

THIS IS DEAD ON!  You have a keen intellect!

Obama couldn't stand the constant reminder of what he's not.

Of course, the bust had to go.

The likeness of dear old Winston continually convicted Obama of his lack of testicularity and cowardice and appeasement.

Perhaps Obama will find a suitable replacement: Karl Marx, Saul Alinsky, Jeremiah Wright, etc.?
