Chris Matthews Says Gov. Sarah Palin is Illiterate?

Good old Chris "Tingle" Matthews. We can always look to him to lower his own credibility just one more notch with each and every broadcast, can't we? This time Ol' Chris Tingle has debased himself by telling the four or five viewers he has that he thinks Governor Sarah Palin can't read or write. Apparently Matthews doesn't think that Palin has the capacity to write the book she is reportedly shopping around.

Even Politico can't explain away Tingle's ignorance here saying that "Matthews suggested Friday that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) may not have the reading or writing ability needed to complete the book she is reportedly shopping."

Teasing a segment on the book during his show “Hardball,” Matthews said: “If she can read, if she can write, she’ll make some money.”

Matthews repeated his suggestion that Palin could not write the book later in the show. “The question is who actually will write the Palin book,” he said. “The only politician I know who can write is Barack Obama.”

Isn't it great that the more civil, more caring, more grown up left is on the case for us all?

Obama didn't either. Bill Ayers wrote Obama's books. If you are in doubt then read part of Obama's books and part of Ayers books and you will notice the writing styles are exactly the same. So much alike it is creepy. Then read something you actually know Obama wrote or listen to him speak without teleprompter. Obama's book styles do not resemble the real Obama.

Can anyone else think of an instance where a public figure with a decent reputation appears so determined to destroy that reputation?

At one time the name Chris Matthews had some gravitas; he was comparable to a Russert or a Brokaw/Rather/Jennings type. I could see him anchoring one of the big three news shows. Yes all liberals, but still respectable. He was one of Bill Clinton's toughest critics. That was years ago. On his present trajectory he is headed for Jerry Springer/Morton Downey territory.

When Hollywood types self-destruct like this, it's generally from drugs or booze or crime. There is an opportunity for law enforcement or family or agents to do an intervention. In Chris's case there appears to be no one willing to do that. Perhaps that's because what is driving him to do this is unknown, and it's happening in slow motion. Maybe it's the atrocious management at msnbc. It's a sad case in ways.

Not that I'm going to agree with bal completely here, but it can be taken that way. Had it not been Matthews, and had he not repeated it with the rest of his explanation, the quote alone might not be viewed as such an insult. Taking it out of context, you CAN take it to mean that Palin is in such a position that she has a hit waiting and only needs to ink it down. Quite obviously Matthews didn't (at least not in the rest of the rationale), but the quote can be interpreted that way when taken out of context.

graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2006 he was our
speaker, and he was horrible and was attempting to appear highly
intellectual. I find it hard to believe that he is attacking anyone's
intellect. His speech was a very boring collection Hallmark cards,
guess that's why he loves Obama so much. The class my freshman year
got President Bush and I got Matthews, a big let down, thank God for

Hey, I don´t like Matthews, but the show is good. He is adversarial on purpose. He may have come out for Obama but he didn´t come out for Kerry and you never know what he is going to do.

Very, very few politicians ever wrote a book. Ghostwriting is the norm. Neither Hillary nor Bill wrote theirs. Bush didn't. Even Goldwater didn't actually write "The Conscience of a Conservative." (Our own Brent Bozell's father actually wrote it for Barry Goldwater) Credible evidence shows that Obama didn't write "Dreams from my Father," too.

So, I was under no illusions that Palin would actually write her own book. But THAT isn't the point here. Matthews didn't say she wasn't going to write her book. He said she was ILLITERATE and COULDN'T do so.
