'What Else Should a Reporter BE' But a Liberal?

WARNING... Video Below Fold

So what do you get when you mix a Canadian TV hostess with the venerable Helen Thomas? An admission of bias so strong that it could ward off a vampire. Just why the image of the undead first came to my mind is anybody's guess, but there you have it.

On a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation morning TV interview show called "Sun Day," Thomas was interviewed on how she felt about presidents past, present what was to be future with the Obama inauguration still then days away. She was also quizzed on her profession in which Thomas claimed only liberals should be engaged. And that isn't all. She also said that conservatives are neither thinking nor caring people.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Like most of her ilk and her era, she felt John F. Kennedy was "the best" president. It has always been a bit ridiculous to rank JFK as a great president, though. With his scant 2 years in office he didn't really have the time to affect the policies and government of the nation in a way that might find him placed among the greats. It can be said, however, that he greatly affected the members of the media that adored him, covered for him, and elevated him to near Godhood. To folks like Thomas, John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the greatest despite his small number of accomplishments as president.

I can't help but feel that the Kennedy era primed the Old Media for this sycophancy for Obama. They had, after all, already fallen for a man with a very small record of actual achievement before. It isn't too much lower to go to fall for Obama, a man with even fewer actual achievements than their last great hero. The bar was lowered terribly for Kennedy and now it lay nearly on the ground for Obama in the eyes of the media.

On the other hand, it is also no surprise that Thomas feels that George W. Bush was the worst president. Fortunately, her biased and wholly uninformed view will be meaningless to real historians in the years to come. It really isn't a surprise that she feels this way based on the segment in the interview where Thomas admits to being a liberal. Allahpundit from Michelle Malkin's HotAir says that Thomas' admission is a "sunbeam of candor," but I call it more like a dagger into the heart of journalism.

I am sure that most of you do not want to suffer through this whole, odious interview, so skip ahead to about 3:40 in the interview to get to the key part.

Transcript

Helen Thomas: I'm a liberal, I was born a liberal, I'll be one 'til I die, what else should a reporter be when you see so much and when we have such great privilege and access to the truth?

CBC Interviewer: Well, you know, it's interesting because I'm sure that if somebody from the right was sitting here they would say... if you ask the question what should a reporter be they will say, "Oh, I don't know, How about objective?"

Helen Thomas: You're not asking people not to think not to care are you? But you are asking them to give a fair reporting both sides and so forth and I did it for 57 years I was never, never accused of bias in my copy. But I had a right to be angry and unhappy at the trend that I saw in my country that I was close enough to see.

Several things about these comments must leave a sensible person's mouth agape. The first is her claim to have been "born a liberal." Seriously? How can anyone believe in such a blinkered concept? Is Thomas seriously unhinged enough to imagine that one can be "born a liberal"?

Secondly is that "seeing" the "truth" must automatically make one a liberal. This is also empty of reflection or thought.

But, of course, the chief conceit is that the only way to be a "reporter" is to be a liberal. This is proof once again of the religiosity with which "reporters" imbue their avocation. It is a mere article of faith that only liberals should be allowed to become reporters. And why is that? Well Thomas answers that question when the CBC interviewer pushes her on the matter.

You see, according to Thomas, one cannot be a conservative and be a thinking or caring person. It is clear in her reply to the interviewer. When the interviewer asks Thomas why reports must be liberal and cannot just be objective, Thomas replies with: "You're not asking people not to think not to care are you?" To Thomas a conservative is not just wrong, mistaken, or even misguided. A conservative is uncaring and unable to think.

This is the hatred that Thomas harbors in her heart. With this slip of the mask, Thomas shows what a horrible person she really is; a hate wracked ignoramus. But at least she has finally cast aside her fake mask of civility and let the truth tumble out. And in this, she is surely not much different than her brethren in the rest of the Old Media.

She's horrible to look at;

She's horrible to look at; however, I have to give her credit in this particular interview for being honest about Obama: he has to DO something.  All he has done is make promises.  Nothing else.

MM, "It could ward off a vampire"?

What could? The admission of bias or that woman's face?

Yes, My Pretty. And your little dog, too!

''She also said that conservatives are neither thinking nor caring people.''

Oh, THAT kind of talk is great for Unity, isn't it?  I feel so inferior now that I have been handed my cretinous butt by such a caring, genius Leftist 'Journalist'.

Good one, Warner

Good one, Warner--and thanks for the heads up.  Every time I start to get slightly miffed with you, you'll come through with something like this that cracks me up.

Jer

LOL

Sorry, but I couldn't resist that one. I'm not sure how many noticed, but I am amused you picked up on it! LOL

Oh, I noticed

And took it to heart. The snippet of transcript was enough for me! ;^)

"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss..." - The Who

The Trojan's Helen is nothing compared to ours!

Oh!  She said that she has never been accused of bias.  I guess that means that all of those who have accused her of being biased were actually praising her for being even-handed and down the middle.  Well, at least we've got that all straightened out.  Thank God for the wisdom of this woman.  The world spins with much more grace and ease because of it.

Born a liberal

Of course babies are the quintessential liberals. They are completely unencumbered with facts, totally self-centered and scream until provided with food and a clean diaper.

Beat me to it!

They are also totally unable to provide for themselves, never expected to do so, and dependent on "authority" to deal with their every whim and want. While, of course, completely disrespecting that authority whenever it suits them. EVERYONE is "born a liberal."

But many of us grow out of it.

"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss..." - The Who

ugly on the inside

Helen is a disgusting human. I cannot stand to watch her, and it's not just because of her outer shell. She is a nasty piece of work, who has helped to spawn more ignorance and hatred in the media. She is the mother, or maybe grandmother, or great-grandmother of the likes of Olbermann and Maddow. She has never been accused of bias? Yet, she receives tons of mail, angry and disagreeing with her. What does she think they are writing her for? Her pound cake recipe? She doesn't have to retire, but she sure needs to shut up.

Not new, just more blatant than usual

Of course Thomas believes that any thinking, caring person would naturally be liberal in their outlook. It's the old "demonize your opponent" play.

"I don't want to argue... just agree with me."

There's no room in her "enlightened" philosophy for teaching a man to fish. That's "thoughtless" and "cruel."

And too much trouble, to boot.

"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss..." - The Who

Helen, your mind is like CONCRETE. ALL MIXED UP ...

... AND SET.  There is NO POINT in trying to hold a reasonable conversation with you on what is and what is not real PROGESS.  Keep talking so people can see just how nutty a LIB can be.

She thinks Bush didn't ask

She thinks Bush didn't ask her a final question because it might have been something about Israel and Gaza. I don't think so, Helen. I think it was Bush' way of saying a final FU.

Sorry, Warner, but I had to get that out of my system. That's also my salute to the entire Old Media.

Am I misreading this?

Is your headline wrong on this? Should it not be 'reporter' rather than 'report'? With 'report', you should leave out the 'a'. Hard to tell what you're conveying here.

Sorry

Sorry, you are right. It is reporter and after I post this reply I'll fix it. I have a new firewall here at work and for some weird reason, NewBusters is displayed in tiny type and NO headlines. I am having my tech dept. look at this, but I don't have much hope to get it fixed.

So, after I post something from here, I cannot actually see the headline until I get home to my own system.

Thanks for mentioning it.

glad it is not just me

Warner,

I have the same problem (super small type and no headlines) with my work computer. Thought it was just my IT Group...happened right after I got a new computer and tried changing all internet settings (to no avail) to fix the way the page displayed.

When a "poll" is posted, I cannot read the question, just the answer choices. For a while I read the responses to figure out what the question was, but then I noticed that the question appears on the right margin where the poll is also shown.

If you find out what is wrong (or what I have to do to fix it), please let me (us?) know.

The super small font is a challenge!

Thanks.

PS - This problem is ONLY on NB; no other sites I visit are forcing the samll (tiny) fonts and missing headlines

interesting

I also find this problem ONLY on NewsBusters. Every other site is perfectly fine.

Hmmmm.

Who is responsible for actions and decisions?

The dividing line in America is NOT Democrat or Republican, black or white, but rather who is responsible for each individual citizens actions and decisions.

Approximately 1/2 the country 'Thinks', each individual citizen is responsible for their own decisions and actions.

Approximately 1/2 the country 'Feels', that someone or something, is responsible for the individual citizens decisions and actions, NOT THE INDIVIDUAL CITIZEN.

This dividing line transcends political parties, races and creeds and is the reason America is in the shape it is currently experiencing, in all areas of life.

Whether one is a CEO or a janitor, practices abortion rather than birth control, engages in sex perversion or not, each individual citizen is responsible for their own actions and decisions.

Some Republicans and MOST Democrats 'Feel' that if someone works at McDonald's and make $250 dollars a week and then buys a $750,000 dollar home, it is NOT their fault when they cannot make the payments and the taxpayers should help them out.

When someone has 8 kids, with 8 different fathers - they are responsible for their own actions and decisions but some Republicans and most Democrats 'Feel' the taxpayer should help them out.

I think any Politician that do NOT think an individual is responsible for their own decisions and actions should be removed from office.

Helen Thomas

The only thing this troll and her mind remind me of is "You can't pick a turd up by the clean end!"

Pretty much sums her up.

Just wondering...

Can one also be born senile? Also, how long does it take for embalming fluid to take effect?

Wow, she's even uglier on

Wow, she's even uglier on the inside.

If that's possible.

Give Helen credit

Give Helen credit for honesty. She says she is liberal and is proud of it.

She appears to be the only liberal alive not ashamed or embarassed to admit to being liberal.

Jesus Loves You

Here in

Grand Rapids, Mi. we're blessed to have Helen's neice as the 6pm and 11pm anchor on WoodTV8.  Check their website, Suzanne Geha is a dead ringer for Helen, minus about 150 years.  In looks and outlook.  Can't stand Helen, can't stand Yeehaa.  And the comment about embalming fluid was great....

Sorry, Helen...

....that picture is the best natural form of birth control.

Dear heavens!

I KNEW it had spawned something evil! I just never thought that anyone related to Helen would find anyone to actually impregnate them! There's really a neice? Yikes!  If she really is a carbon copy of Helen, then maybe she can get some sort of help, before it's too late............?

Bringing the government in to run Wall Street is like saying, "Dad burned the dinner, let's get the dog to cook." PJ O'Rourke

It's

far, far too late for her, TBD.  As in most TV, liberalism is handed out with the first paycheck.  You. Must. Conform.

These are simply grand

These are simply grand claims from a grand ego, what else is new in the world? Liberals believe their license for exaggeration, embelishment, and contempt for those opposing them from any angle has now been broadened to include complete disclosure of their duplicitous and dishonest souls.

Reality is the good friend of the strong and perception is the cruel master of the weak.

Next Please!

Helen Thomas reminds me of

Helen Thomas reminds me of this relative I had (a distant aunt) when I was young.  She was old and scary.  She would tell everyone what to do, what to eat, what to wear, etc.  She always wanted me to come and hug her, and though I did it, I was petrified.  She was a "bit touched" as my parents would explain.

I bet Thomas's young relatives feel the same about her.

Seashell

I agree, she does seem the nutty aunt who is off her rocker type, but see up-thread. It seems her neice is trying to fill her shoes, instead of hide them from her!

Bringing the government in to run Wall Street is like saying, "Dad burned the dinner, let's get the dog to cook." PJ O'Rourke

TBDI

Must run in the family.  Remember, Helen was "born a liberal" so the niece must have that gene too.

Seashell

Evidently, it is something that is passed down in that family, like the beauty gene, that seem so dominant.

Bringing the government in to run Wall Street is like saying, "Dad burned the dinner, let's get the dog to cook." PJ O'Rourke

The beauty gene

and especially the nose gene.

I'm Afraid

I don't like horror flicks, even Temple of Doom was a bit scary for me. I'm afraid to watch the interview. Maybe NB will post the complete transcript so I can read it. I've heard Helen's voice and even that is TOO scary for me.

That's like reading Marx to become an entrepreneur.

What Else Should a Reporter Be then Liberal?

In Helen Thomas' case, butt ugly (as we say in Michigan).

 Heard Helen on the Lars

Heard Helen on the Lars Larson show last week, and frankly, she sounded like a 12 year old in regards to her arguments.  But then, most liberals do.

She has a quite the imagination too. Apparently, in her world, we have killed millions of people in Iraq.

You can polish a turd but it's still a gargoyl masquerading as a journalist.

To the bone.

Be careful. I poked a stick in Ms. Thomas's cage once after reading one of her unbiased articles and got bit:

Dearest Helen,

PLEASE find more time to spend alone by yourself, away from media who do not understand you. It is not so much that you embaress yourself (you do), but you make it difficult for others such as myself to admit to being a Democrat. Many elderly people find hobbies such as painting or traveling easily fill the void of past occupations, you can too!

Do you

know if that e-mail address is still valid? I think it'd be great for everyone to send Old Helen an e-mail, telling her how much we appreciate her service, and urging her to go on a nationwide speaking tour.
Imagine how many good people with that last name are going through their family trees, desperately searching to make sure they are not related to that old harridan?

Excellent idea! We should

Excellent idea! We should hae a letter writing campaign to the publishers, suggesting that Helen "Wheels" Thomas should go on as may shows  and speaking engagement as possible. More Americans need to hear Helen's true thoughts about conservatives, and the Iraq War.

Not Quite The Gentle Helen Of Troy

Yes, Helen is a mean old coot whose pen has been going dry for several years. Many words are used to describe her:  Rage, hate, spite, mean. vengeful,  and others. She, in the dim twlight of her career, has decided to expose her true nature: What has she got to lose? Her view of the human condition is truly ugly and her confidence in any of us to make important decisions is suspect unless, of course, we share her liberal outlook. Her heroes ( Kennedy, Carter, Clinton, Kerry) have in many cases let her down or they were unable to succeed because of people like you and me. Her hope of changing the world with her views has largely failed. She tentatively, with a deep sigh, supports Obama, hoping for the best. But she is unsure and unsteady in her outlook. I think the word "despair " best fits Helen Thomas and many of the old wrinkled, crinkled liberals who have in fierce desperation become leaders of the Obama bandwagon.

http://chalktalk-talk.blogspot.com

Youth Worship

What the liberals have in Jfk, as well as Obama, is 'youth worship'. Young is better than old. Young is smarter and wiser. Liberals are the descendants of Woodstock and the mindlessness of the sixties. They never grew up, nor have their charming offspring been given the tools to think.
Helen Thomas has never appeared as a caring person. Her view of herself is somewhat distorted. "She was never accused of bias"? She must be smoking dope and reminiscing.
The truth is that liberals want policies that keep people 'needing them'. That way, they feel good when they pay exorbitant taxes. But in reality, it is the height of selfishness. The need to get self satisfaction, is not generous, but greedy. And keeping people in their place in our culture is a gross crime against them.
Conservatives believe, as Thomas Jefferson and our founding fathers believed, in the 'pursuit' of happiness. Pursuit is an active word. We believe the government does not 'give' us our happiness, but enables us to 'pursue' it.
Helen Thomas and liberals in general believe that certain people can not pursue their happiness. So we must give it to them. Frankly speaking, they are racists.
Recovering Constitutional Jefferson Republicanism

Smart people know better

That the current main stream media, soon to be the 'old' media is gone.  If they had bothered to keep their love affair with Barack Hussein secret, people might have had confidence in them.  But at this point, people realize that the main stream media lie.  They don't trust them at all which is why publications like the Times are slowly going under.

And please don't show any more pictures of that Arab, Helen Thomas.  I've replaced three monitors already and every time her picture loads up, it blows out the pixels on my screen.

Poor Helen

She gives archeology a bad name.

Helen Thomas Makes No Sense

Moron!

Never been accused of bias in her copy?  She's completely tone deaf.

Lowering the presidential (and journalistic) bar...

Such an apropos quote:

"The bar was lowered terribly for Kennedy and now it lay nearly on the ground for Obama in the eyes of the media."

Actually the bar was totally in the dust for the Annointed One, Lowerer of Oceans, Maker of Car Payments, and Giver of Puppies and Kittens to Good Little (Liberal) Children Everywhere.

It's the broomstick that The One and his whoring media bride jumped over when they became ideologically married at the start of his campaign.

Shortly after the ceremony Ms. Thomas reclaimed her broom and then rode off into the sunset.

A practical question, Warner: does any entity really want to take credit for a picture of Helen Thomas?  Doesn't that open them up to an assault complaint?

LOL

It is unpleasant, isn't it?

Miss Thomas, what gives you

Miss Thomas, what gives you the right to drop bombs on innocent conservatives?

How about some of these, Helen?

Besides being somewhat intelligent, objective and knowing enough to do some research on things about which they nothing -- and besides understanding and honoring the trust the democracy has put into the Fourth Estate, which decided to become the Fifth Column in recent years, especially the past eight and this election cycle --so-called journalists should understand what differentiates live news from features, opinions and editorials.

They also should follow a code of ethics. One with which they should be familiar is the Code of Ethics from the Society of Professional Journalists: http://www.spj.org/ethicscode.asp

Here are its preamble and main headings. Perhaps someday, be they newspaper, magazine or broadcast, the advocacy/adversary media will decide to learn about it and then follow its guidance?

Preamble

Members of the Society of Professional Journalists believe that public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy.

The duty of the journalist is to further those ends by seeking truth and providing a fair and comprehensive account of events and issues.

Conscientious journalists from all media and specialties strive to serve the public with thoroughness and honesty.

Professional integrity is the cornerstone of a journalist's credibility.

Members of the Society share a dedication to ethical behavior and adopt this code to declare the Society's principles and standards of practice.

Seek Truth and Report It
Journalists should be honest, fair and courageous in gathering, reporting and interpreting information.

Minimize Harm
Ethical journalists treat sources, subjects and colleagues as human beings deserving of respect.

Act Independently
Journalists should be free of obligation to any interest other than the public's right to know.

Be Accountable
Journalists are accountable to their readers, listeners, viewers and each other.

Conservative Charity

I'm about as staunch a conservative as one can be and I'll bet I give more of my money, as a percentage of my earnings, to charitable causes than Ms. Thomas.  But, of course, there is no caring in me.

The difference between a conservative and liberal:  a conservative believes in putting his money where his mouth is.  A liberal believes in putting your money where his mouth is.

A liberal believes in

A liberal believes in putting your money where his mouth is.

Personally, I prefer that it be put in my hand.  However, I DO find the larger denomination bills to be particulary tasty.

And, let's not forget that incredibly stingy, selfish liberal, the late Paul Newman, who put over 250 million dollars of his money where our mouths are and gave it all to charity.

Jer

Stupid Paul Newman and his

Stupid Paul Newman and his miserable charity...

Saying someone is "born

Saying someone is "born liberal" is like saying someone is "born gay" or "born alcoholic".  It's simply an admission of the fact that they do not want to be responsible for their actions so they must blame it on something outside their control.

Just like some of my students that tell me that I should lower my expectations of their behavior because they are mexican.

Conservatives don't care?

Conservatives don't care?  This is a b.s. mantra of the left, which has no basis in reality.  There's a book about this written by a liberal, Who Really Cares, and he discovers that conservatives give far more of their money, time, and talent to helping the poor and downtrodden.

Liberals care about propping up an ideology that makes them feel good.  It's completely worthless.  Don't believe me?; check out Obama's and Biden's record of donations -- ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC.

Here's the link to the book:

Careful, there . . .

You don't want to inject any truth into the discussion.

The liberals and leftists believe -- and there seems to be evidence supporting this -- that if they say something long enough, people will believe it.

That said, liberalism as it exists in America today really does seem to be mental disease. Certainly, it affects the souls of those affected with that bankrupt philosophy.

Liberalism is a cancer to

Liberalism is a cancer to this country which many embrace and welcome, not knowing any better.

If liberals really cared

they would not make sweeping generalizations about another group such as conservatives. Do all blacks like watermelon and fried chicken? are all asians poor drivers? are jews all about money? are all male gays effeminate? are all muslims potential terrorists because of their religion? are all liberals devoid of facts? do liberals make decisions only based on feelings? are all liberals classless? do all liberals feel superior to conservatives? do all liberals hate those that disagree with them? do all liberals intentionally want to keep minorities in an underclasss. All of these statements are ridiculous just as the continuous dribel coming from liberals about conservatives. Is Helen Thomas ACTUALLY STILL ALIVE?

I am amazed---

I am amazed---that with all the astute members of NB that nobody brought up the fact that Helen Thomas is really Henry Kissinger in drag!!!!
