It ain't easy being green, and in the case of Barack Obama's inaugural, it seems like he's not even trying to green it up. According to the Institute for Liberty, the Obamathon in Washington will produce about 575 million pounds of CO2 emissions.
In a study titled Carbon Bigfoot, the IFL concludes that the CO2 glut will be substantial. From the global warming wrecking celebs flying all over the place in their many private jets, to the many hundreds if not thousands of vehicles that will be used to get people to and in the midst of the inaugural, the CO2 carnage is at the amazingly high level.
The IFL finds:
- Celebrities, politicians, and bigwigs using 600 private jets will produce 25,320,000 POUNDS of CO2
- Personal vehicles could account for 262,483,200 POUNDS of CO2
- n the parade, horses alone will produce more than 400 POUNDS of CO2
The IFL also came up with a revealing illustration about what this all means.
It would take the average U.S. household 57,598 years to produce a carbon footprint equal to that of the new president’s housewarming party
Granted the IFL scoffs at the very notion of worrying, as greenwits do, that all this revenue generating travel and commerce is a bad thing.
But, it is interesting that the folks that claim to be the best, most mean and green, tree hugging, global warming priests around are going to be responsible for this conflagration of globalony destruction.
The Obamathon in Washington will be a global warming catastrophe... but here's guessing that no one will say a cross word in the Old Media!

January 15, 2009 - 15:38 ET by Doc_NavyIt would take 691,176 average households an entire MONTH to equal what Obama is going to do in 5 days.
As for Gore, based on the numbers quoted; and using the KNOWN expenditures for his home in Tennessee:
It would take Gore 2,742.76 years to do what Obama is gonna do in 5 days.

January 15, 2009 - 09:57 ET by OddJobThis from their site...
"This estimate is not intended as a scientific assessment of the output of carbon dioxide or equivalents during the week of the 2009 presidential Inauguration. We have relied on EPA data, supplemental data, and news accounts to produce a conservative estimate. We are forced to rely on attendance estimates, averages for vehicles, and a series of simple calculations.
We do not estimate the carbon footprint of additional food, extended hours at D.C. bars, or specialty products and services created specially for the Inauguration. This should serve to correct for any overestimates in our assumptions and is actually likely to underestimate the full environmental impact of the event.
Further, we compared our figure to the estimated carbon footprint of the most recent U.N. gathering on climate change held in Poznan, Poland. There officials at the December 1-12 conference of approximately 10,000 people estimated the CO2 and equivalent output at 13,000 tons. Adjusting for the size of the events, our estimate is just a fraction of the pro-rated estimate assigned to the Poznan conference.
Taking these considerations into account, we are confident that our estimate is both
conservative and fair."
It sounds scientific enough! At least their confident and proud of what they write about on their blog!
I estimate that monkeys are going to start flying out of their butts at 300 miles per hour on account I'm confident in writing this statement without any factual scientific data to support me!

Hey, what's the problem?
January 16, 2009 - 11:16 ET by CKA in Red State USAAfter all, this is a new day for America, the world.
No matter that this inauguration, at an estimated $163 million, costs about four times what President Bush's last one did, just four years ago. BTW: Bush was criticized for even that amount because, his detractors said, the U.S. was in middle of a couple of wars.
Now, though? I guess that a couple of hundred of million dollars, a chunk paid by us taxpayers, really is insignficant, when bailouts of trillions are being considered.
And certainly the adversary/advocacy media will not criticize their creation and his and his followers' profligate actions.
But here's what Salon.com said [http://dir.salon.com/story/news/feature/2005/01/20/media_on_inauguration] on Jan. 20, 2005, about the Jan. 2005 inauguration: "Nonetheless, like butter on a humid summer day in Washington, reporters have simply melted away from asking pointed questions about the costly security overkill (nearly 9,000 police officers and military personnel will be deployed) -- a buildup that clearly plays to Bush's political advantage by keeping terrorist threats at the top of people's minds."
Where has this type of criticsim been for Obama?
Right.
Too, with Obama's inauguration and its fiscal and GHG extravagance, there's the glitz of the Left Coast that must be fed, right?
As for GHG burdens, he's just following the example of the High Priest of the eco-religion of catastrophic anthropogenic global warming.
After all, Al Gore -- and Democrats, liberals and leftists -- always seem to live in the "Do what I preach or command you to do, not what I actually do" world, don't they?
