Remember when you were a kid and you and your best friend got caught doing something you two weren't supposed to be doing? Remember the first words blurted from your mouth was, "Well, it's HIS fault?" It's a common reaction for a kid trying to avoid the wrath of Mom that he knows is coming after getting caught for doing what he knew was wrong in the first place. Well in essence, this is what the executive editor of the Anchorage Daily News, Pat Dougherty, did in reaction to the furious question that Governor Sarah Palin had for the editor's choice of continuing to pursue the idiotic and insulting claim that Sarah is not the real mother of son Trig. In response to being outed, editor Dougherty blamed everyone else for his continuing to publish the ridiculous conspiracy theory that only idiots, hatemongers and fools could believe.
In a good catch by McClatchy Watch, Dougherty gets caught spreading hateful rumors about Governor Palin, gets called out on the fact by Governor Palin herself, then looks back wide-eyed in feigned innocence and points his finger at bloggers and people on the left that have persisted with their own interest in this stupid story.
Governor Mom tapped her foot and asked lil' Dougherty why he's promulgating known lies in his paper and he blurted out, "It's their fault, Mom." Of course, in the adult world, that juvenile excuse does not work. Dougherty needs to take responsibility for what HE placed in the paper HE controls. He should admit that HE just wants to find any way at all to destroy Governor Palin. His faux shock at being exposed is as phony as a three dollar bill.
At issue is the efforts by the Anchorage Daily News to continue to stir the absurd story that Sarah is not Trig's birth mother. The Daily News just last week sent reporter Lisa Demer parading about Alaska interviewing doctors, school district employees, government employees and those familiar with the Palins in an attempt to roil the Trig-isn't-Sarah's story line once again.
For her part, Governor Palin released a press release that in small part addressed the Paper's idiocy.
Meanwhile, bloggers, the Atlantic magazine and even the Anchorage Daily News continue to give credence to the sensational allegation that the governor’s child, Trig, is not hers.
“As a public official, I expect criticism and I expect to be held accountable for how I govern,” Gov. Palin said. “But the personal, salacious nature of recent reporting, and often the refusal of the media to correct obvious mistakes, unfortunately discredits too many in journalism today, making it difficult for many Americans to believe what they see in the media.”
Well, this was all just too much for innocent, little Pat Dougherty. He was all shocked and surprised that the Palins would be a tad upset that he and his paper were continuing to stir up the wild-eyed Sarah-ins't-the-Mother conspiracy theory. Why, how could she be so upset, Dougherty wondered?
And, naturally, Dougherty pretended it wasn't his fault that the story was appearing in his newspaper.
I want to be very clear on this: I have from the beginning and do now consider the conspiracy theories about Trig's birth to be nutty nonsense.
If that's true, why has Lisa Demer been asking questions about Trig's birth?
Because we have been amazed by the widespread and enduring quality of these rumors. I finally decided, after watching this go on unabated for months, to let a reporter try to do a story about the "conspiracy theory that would not die" and, possibly, report the facts of Trig's birth thoroughly enough to kill the nonsense once and for all.
Sure, he is only reporting that other people are still talking about this idiotic conspiracy theory.
Next week, Dougherty plans to run a long expose on how other people are still saying the world is flat, followed by a story that other people are claiming the Holocaust didn't really happen, but these are only after he finishes his in-depth and highly intellectual story that other people are claiming the moon landing never happened. Not that he is continuing the discussion on these crazy, idiotic conspiracy theories, of course.

It's not your fault if you
January 10, 2009 - 04:27 ET by thebutlerdiditIt's not your fault if you can blame it on someone else. Why, that's the whole motto behind MSNBC. Report first, deal with fall out later, mostly by pretending someone else made you do it. It's all Palin's fault, she gave an interview! So, we had to say something nasty. Perfect logic.
Thanks to their liberal agenda
January 10, 2009 - 05:20 ET by Army Bratthe ADN has begun cutting staff and papere size. They blame it on Craigslist.
The news that they may fail was greeted with much rejoicing here in Alaska.
If they didn't print crap they could probably sell some papers...much like the NYT come to think of it.

Anchorage Daily vs Seatle PI
January 10, 2009 - 07:41 ET by AgnosticHe should take a lesson from the editors of the Seatle PI which stood behind their poor decisions, like protecting muslims wanted by the police, until the paper was finally put up for sale.

Yeah, right.
Of course, they could have just ignored the sensational allegation that the governor’s child, Trig, is not hers, instead of giving it credence by more "investigation." But good guy that he is, Dougherty just wanted to prove them wrong, once and for all.
It's the Governor's fault, for not inviting an ADN reporter into the delivery room to witness Trig's birth.
I keep saying it: they are shameless.

January 10, 2009 - 08:24 ET by eaglewingz08And you could be dollars to donuts that the lib ADN does not publish skeptics of manmade global warming or criticism of the Goreacle on global warming matters. I am sure the paper reported the other people were abuzz that Obama was a secret muslim and born in Kenya. Those rumors buzzed around the internet longer than Trig's birth. Or is the level of surprise needed to print malicious libels different with republicans than it is with democrats. But how could that be, why one would have to suspect some type of bias in reporting and we all know that the media is purely objective, just the facts, right.

January 10, 2009 - 08:44 ET by WorriedI find it truly amazing the fascination the liberals have with Sarah. November 4th was over 2 months ago and I haven't heard much about McLame other than his meeting with BHO. Is it they know she isn't going away so they must do there best to try to destroy her at any means because she is loved by many conservatives? Little do they know (that's for sure) that all the bashing is only bringing more of us out to support her.
I wonder if this paper printed stories about Obama's claim of 57 states or his Muslim faith.

Sue 'em, Sarah
January 10, 2009 - 09:34 ET by nkviking75I know the standard for libel is very high when the victim is a public figure, but Gov. Palin and her "First Dude" ought to try. This "story" is so patently ridiculous on his face that any MSM organization which allowed the story to pass uncritically through its portals deserves to be sued out of business.
It would be legitimate to report that the rumor was going around the internet, but any news story should ultimately make clear that the rumor was also bogus.
Welcome to the era of unity, you racist!
And papers are wondering why they are tanking?
January 10, 2009 - 10:00 ET by writeroneThey (newspapers) have no credibility anyone. From fake authors with fake stories to fake letters to the editorial page (which isn't anything new, I can remember that when I worked at a local paper) to now an editor backpeddling to basically say he doesn't know why his employees are reporting on certain topics.
Do they really think we are that stupid?

January 10, 2009 - 10:13 ET by NorthCoasterAll I told her was to go find an in depth story on Trigg. How was I to know that she was going to write about the faux "Bristol birthed Trigg", story.
No wonder these papers are going down the tube. They have writers and editors out there with no oversite. Maybe the editor wanted to be able to deny any connection to the story.

January 10, 2009 - 10:54 ET by BKeyserWinston Churchill is (arguably) quoted as saying, “If you're not a liberal at twenty you have no heart, if you're not a conservative at forty you have no brain.” This Pat Dougherty guy looks at least 40, though like virtually all other liberals, he refuses to accept it- he's still trying to live out his reckless, (probably) drug-infested, accountability-free youth. This is the problem with Liberals: they simply refuse to grow up.
Oh, and how do they continue to end up in positions of influence like this? They are appointed by older, dying Libs who wish to live on vicariously through their child-like successors. It's quite sad, really.

January 10, 2009 - 13:11 ET by Vivaldi5I'd also like to see how much coverage the "Obama wasn't really born in the US and is ineligible to be president" angle got in Dougherty's paper. After all, other people were talking about that, too, right?
And if that was considered fringe and non-newsworthy, on what basis were the Trig rumors kept a-buzz--other than because of the usual liberal derangement and hatred evoked whenever Sarah's name is mentioned?

Palin
January 10, 2009 - 15:23 ET by slickwillie2001You only have to look at the crowds Palin drew on the campaign trail to understand why she is such a threat, and she will be for the next twenty years. That's why the liberal media will not back down on her. They are already thinking of the next election. She is an existential threat to liberalism itself, as well as to the ivy-league elitism seen in both parties and the old media. Astounding itself is the fact that she survived the bumbling McCain campaign somewhat intact.
PS Where did the 'troopergate' 2 scandallette go anyway? Forgotten like the 'missing explosives from a bunker in Iraq' scandal was after the election of 2004?
Palin scares the hell out of the left
January 10, 2009 - 16:38 ET by c5thenShe has the same drawing power as Obama but is sincere and honest and only says what she believes, not what people want to hear. She has the potential to be a second "Ronald Reagan".
Maybe we needed to have the experience of a second Jimmy Carter to prepare us for the second Ronald Reagan? I can only hope that we make it through the screwups relatively intact.

Alan Keyes / Sarah Palin - 2012
I thought it was just the National media who were biased
January 10, 2009 - 16:32 ET by c5thenI now stand corrected. Apparenlty journalism is a completely dead and burried vocation in this country. If even a relatively small and local Anchorage Daily News is completely taken over by pundits who wish to do nothing but throw propaganda and idiological rhetoric at the public then there is no hope what so ever for the profession that was once called "Journalisim".
It's no longer just a few bad eggs. Now our only hope is to track down and find the few good eggs that are left. This makes Brit Hume's semi-retirement that much sadder for me. He's one of the good eggs.

January 10, 2009 - 17:28 ET by Gary P JacksonMy News Watch group over at Team Sarah deals with the ADN daily. Downright filthy liberals.
They even allow certain bloggers, and even well written letters to the editor, to be postested ad "news" even giving the author a by-line. As long as they trash Palin!
As far as the comments, as long as it trashes the Sarah and her family, the more nasty the better.
90 percent of them are not from Alaska. Just Obots.
I read where McClatchy stock was down like 90 some odd percent. You'd think these idiots would learn.
While we are on the subject, we've had an organized effort by a bunch of losers from Something Awful .com infiltrate the group.
These turds created eleborate home pages and all.
Anyhow, a week or so ago we started getting some vulgar posts here and there and a lot of race bating, and the N word was sprinkled in.
Of course, those were deleted and the posters banned the second they were found.
Well, lo and behold, our buddies over at Huffpo did an "expose" on Team Sarah saying we are racists! Of course, no one ever contacted TS to talk about it. They just ran the story.
Most of the conservative media has picked up on this, but it is despicable.
We have been monorting their site, and have screen captures of their very well coordinate elaborate conspiracy. They even created a website for one of our moderators, whose name has been in the reporting. I mean they created a website and blog for the guy. They had him in plots to overthrow the government, running ponzi schemes, and claimed he was embezzling money from TS!
And don't think for a minutes that these are just kids!
I won't mention her name here, to protect Newsbusters....but should someone want to PM me......
Anyhow, I dug out one, who had an incredibly elaborate home page. I mean she had Sarah videos, talked all of the right stuff, just perfect.
Well, she finally attacked.
I looked into her. She was stupid. She posted her real picture.
Come to find out, she's the medical director of the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center Office of
Emergency Response. She also serves as an associate at the Center for Infectious
Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP).
You trip over to Huffpo and you find she was a maxed out Obama donor!
It's really sad that this nation has degenerated to this. My guess is if you went into this womans home you'd find all of the fine writings of Saul Alinsky.
Last night, we had a huge group of Obots invade us, and post porn all over the place. Again, this is right out of Rules for Radicals I'm sure Hitler's brown shirts would be proud.
Evidently Sarah has scared these people out of their mind, because I know of no other Republican getting this treatment.
I know she is finally feeling like talking about the media, and that has them in high dudgeon! I have a feeling they ain't seen nothing yet!

Dougherty
January 10, 2009 - 20:19 ET by jaywlI read the story the editor wrote. Dougherty said he was sending out the reporter because he knew nothing was there and then he could write a story putting this to rest. Well, the reporter found nothing, just like he thought she would. Then this idiot says because nothing was found there was nothing to write about even though that was the whole point! I'll bet he thinks we and his readers are stupid.
Negative 78 degrees in parts
January 10, 2009 - 22:26 ET by thebutlerdiditNegative 78 degrees in parts of Alaska. I saw this in the news, and went to a site where Alaskans post. A bunch of lower 48ers, as they call us, had posted a bunch of crap totally not related to the weather, all about Palin, negative stuff, and about oil drilling. Boy, those people on that site were sooo p'od. They were telling people, hey, you never even thought about us, cared whether we lived or died, but now you are suddenly so worried and interested in us? One said that they were tired of having their Gov. slammed, that the people who were coming there didn't have sense enough to know the difference between a comedian and a real person, quit making us out to be freaks and animal murderers, it was great.
