ABC News Shocker: The 'All Time Dumb Quotes' Are All From Republicans

  • Bookmark and Share

Looks like ABC News is starting out 2009 with a partisan bang. On its main page, ABC News is hosting a slide show featuring what it is calling the "All Time Dumb Quotes." Now, these are not all strictly political dumb quotes, to be sure. They also have the empty headed Christina Aguilera, that sharp as a tack Jessica Simpson and other denizens of the Hollywood Mensa club among the 16 featured quotes -- and some of them are doozies, too. But, there are six political quotes five by Republicans and one by Tina Fey making fun of a Republican (Palin, naturally), yet there are no "All Time Dumb Quotes" from any Democrats. Not a one. Apparently ABC doesn't think there's ever been a dumb Democrat?

Even more absurdly, all these "dumb quotes" are from the last year or so. Apparently, ABC also is not aware of anything "dumb" that was ever said before contemporary history. Yet, even as all these supposedly "All Time Dumb Quotes" are recent, they have one quote.... just one... from farther back in time than just recently. And guess who it’s from? Amazingly, the ONLY "All Time Dumb Quote" ABC can find from before the year 2008 is a 1988 quote by... drum roll please... Dan Quayle!

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Here are the political "All Time Dumb Quotes" that ABC gave us, each with the heading of Did They Really Say That?

  • "Maybe 100."
-- Sen. John McCain, in a January 2008 town hall meeting in Derry, N.H., discussing how many years U.S. troops could remain in Iraq.

  • "All of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years."
-- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, responding to a request by CBS anchor Katie Couric to name the newspapers or magazines she reads, broadcast Oct. 1, 2008.

  • "I can see Russia from my house!"
-- Comedian Tina Fey impersonating Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on "Saturday Night Live," broadcast Sept. 13, 2008

  • "Too many ob-gyns aren't able to practice their love with women across this country."
-President George W. Bush, Sept. 6, 2004, while discussing malpractice lawsuit reforms

  • "I think gay marriage is something that should be between a man and a woman."
    - Arnold Schwarzenegger, 2003, in an interview with radio host Sean Hannerty during the California gubernatorial campaign

  • "The Holocaust was an obscene period in our nation's history. I mean in this century's history. But we all lived in this century. I didn't live in this century."
    - Dan Quayle, Sept. 15, 1988 during a press conference in Moore, Okla., in answer to a question on the Holocaust

Not the most stellar moments, of course. Though, the McCain quote does not really belong there because in context to the subject he was on, there is nothing "dumb" about him stating that we could be in Iraq for 100 years if the Iraqis want us there. After all, we've been in Europe nearly 65 years now after the close of WWII! Why should Iraq necessarily be different?

The rest of the ABC list, as I mentioned, is taken up by Hollywierd's dimmest bulbs. But, five quotes from Republicans out of 16 "All Time Dumb Quotes" without a single Democrat cracking the list? How does that even make sense?

Did ABC some how miss these gems:

  • " I did not have sexual relations with that woman."
    -- Bill Clinton

  • "I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go?"
    --Barack Obama

  • "My staff tells me not to say this, but I'm going to say it anyway, in the summer because of the heat and high humidity, you could literally smell the tourists coming into the Capitol. It may be descriptive but it's true."
-- Harry Reid, Senate Democrat Majority Leader

  • "You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."
    --John Kerry

  • "I remember landing under sniper fire"
    -- Hillary Clinton

  • "Hiiiiaaaauuuugh"
    -- Howard Dean

  • And... Anything ever said by Joe Biden
    --Joe Biden

And this is just a tiny, tiny list. There are enough stupid Democrat quotes to fill a phone book over the last 10 years alone. Yet, curiously enough, ABC News just couldn't recall any of these quotes.

Shocking, isn't it?

Happy New Year, everyone. I look forward to being with you at least for one more year... that is, as long as the NB staff can put up with me!

"I can see Russia from my

"I can see Russia from my house!"
-- Comedian Tina Fey impersonating Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on "Saturday Night Live," broadcast Sept. 13, 2008

It never ceases to amaze me how dishonest and/or stupid the media really is. They attribute this quote to Palin via Fey. PALIN NEVER SAID THAT YOU JERKS!

Exactly DaBird.. here's what Palin actually said:

Exactly DaBird.. here's what Palin actually said (in response to a number of probing Q's from Charles Gibson - Bold was edited out of the broadcast (in Italics is the reference to the proximity of Russia):

PALIN: First off, we’re going to continue good relations with Saakashvili there. I was able to speak with him the other day and giving him my commitment, as John McCain’s running mate, that we will be committed to Georgia. And we’ve got to keep an eye on Russia. For Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable and we have to keep…

[..]I do believe unprovoked and we have got to keep our eyes on Russia, under the leadership there. I think it was unfortunate. That manifestation that we saw with that invasion of Georgia shows us some steps backwards that Russia has recently taken away from the race toward a more democratic nation with democratic ideals. That’s why we have to keep an eye on Russia. And, Charlie, you’re in Alaska. We have that very narrow maritime border between the United States, and the 49th state, Alaska, and Russia. They are our next door neighbors. We need to have a good relationship with them. They’re very, very important to us and they are our next door neighbor.

[..]

Well, I’m giving you that perspective of how small our world is and how important it is that we work with our allies to keep good relation with all of these countries, especially Russia. We will not repeat a Cold War. We must have good relationship with our allies, pressuring, also, helping us to remind Russia that it’s in their benefit, also, a mutually beneficial relationship for us all to be getting along.

We cannot repeat the Cold War. We are thankful that, under Reagan, we won the Cold War, without a shot fired, also. We’ve learned lessons from that in our relationship with Russia, previously the Soviet Union.

We will not repeat a Cold War. We must have good relationship with our allies, pressuring, also, helping us to remind Russia that it’s in their benefit, also, a mutually beneficial relationship for us all to be getting along..

[..]

Perhaps so. I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you’re going to be expected to be called upon and help..

But NATO, I think, should include Ukraine, definitely, at this point and I think that we need to — especially with new leadership coming in on January 20, being sworn on, on either ticket, we have got to make sure that we strengthen our allies, our ties with each one of those NATO members.

We have got to make sure that that is the group that can be counted upon to defend one another in a very dangerous world today.

[..]

What I think is that smaller democratic countries that are invaded by a larger power is something for us to be vigilant against. We have got to be cognizant of what the consequences are if a larger power is able to take over smaller democratic countries. And we have got to be vigilant. We have got to show the support, in this case, for Georgia. The support that we can show is economic sanctions perhaps against Russia, if this is what it leads to. It doesn’t have to lead to war and it doesn’t have to lead, as I said, to a Cold War, but economic sanctions, diplomatic pressure, again, counting on our allies to help us do that in this mission of keeping our eye on Russia and Putin and some of his desire to control and to control much more than smaller democratic countries. His mission, if it is to control energy supplies, also, coming from and through Russia, that’s a dangerous position for our world to be in, if we were to allow that to happen.

Hmmm, I guess no one at ABC

Hmmm, I guess no one at ABC found Murtha's racist people comments or Reid's stinky tourists comment to be dumb. I hate to be a Palin defender all the time, but really what is so stupid about her saying she read any or all of the newspapers in front of her over the years? Everyone automatically assumes she couldn't name any papers, but I never took it that way. I just assumed she didn't want to say which ones she read. She later said that she took the comment as that Couric was acting like they were so out of touch living in Alaska that she wasn't informed, so she meant that there was any papaer she wanted to read available to her. People always forget that with editting you can make anyone sound stupid, and we never got to see what was said before during and after those remarks. I also think the seeing Russia from my house thing was unfair, and I just don't get how they can be so disinenious to say McCain just claimed 100 years w/o more being said. ABC is out early with another sucktastic year!

The butler did it!!!!!

Wow....great stuff from a new poster.

The Butler Did It!

Found the "stupidest" comment from a politician.

Stinky tourists!

Is this not the best site on the internet?  Sometimes I think NB has become too big....then I realize it's just getting better.  Those of us who have been here for a while know each other, so to speak...but then, "out of the mouth of babes"...the perspective of the new posters changes the conversation....for the better!

I don't know about the rest of you....but I think we've had a couple of really great new members join, recently.

The butler beat me to it!

My extended family celebrated at my house today and that dumb@ss remark Reid made was one of the topics we hashed out! They all just left and I jumped on here to find you guys talking about the same thing.
If this keeps happening I might make it a drinking game.....

In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.

The unbelievable thing is

The unbelievable thing is that Reid admitted that his staff told him not to say it, then said he was going to say it anyway!

And when Rush sold the letter that Reid wrote and had other senators sign, he got up in front of the Senate and pretended that he was part of the plan and glad to help!

What a class act!

The word

Asinine comes to mind. Also another A word. And arrogant. Ooh....
Arrogant asinine A...... Yeah, Triple A Reid. Nice ring to it.

In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.

Evening mb... I thought

Evening mb...

I thought about putting the little episode of Reid/Rush on here...glad you posted what you do...I sure didn't know how to say it all.

Rush made oodles of political play out of it to show what an arse Reid is..more than anything he made oodles of $$$ on ebay for he military defense fund or some such by doing so...he donated all that money from that wonderful woman who won the bid.

I am in such a hurry here, sorry if this is all jumble up.

Petraeus...Betray us indeed.

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

bt, I actually tried to

bt, I actually tried to find that little speech he gave on the Senate floor, but I couldn't.

I did just find this Reuters story which says:

...Reid, speaking in the Senate, saluted Limbaugh for raising the money on
behalf of The Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation, which helps
children of Marines and law officers killed in the line of duty.

"What could be a more worthwhile cause?" said Reid, urging support for the fund-raising drive shortly before bidding closed.

"I strongly believe when we can put our differences aside, even Harry
Reid and Rush Limbaugh, we should do that and try to accomplish good
things
for the American people," Reid said.
  (emphasis added)

BTW, the REuters article says the "spat" raised $2.1 million, but Rush not only donated the $2.1 million the lady paid, he matched it!

And there was old Harry, trying to act like he was in on it from the beginning and was glad to do it!

What a piece of work!

mb... I remember Rush

mb...

I remember Rush asking Reid and the other Senators that signed his letter to match his donation that he matched for the service members if they cared so danged much, were so patriotic and all that jazz...the silence was deafening...

Until little Harry had the audicity to stand on the Senate floor and act as if he did something good for the military via Rush after this was over...

It was complete madness...made one's blood boil as it did mine, I caught it live.

Msm remained mute.

"America isn't the problem...America is the solution." ~ Rush Limbaugh

I remember him issuing that

I remember him issuing that challenge....they must have had a collective stroke....LOL

And yeah, the MSM let Reid get away with it. They let him stand there and take a share of credit for something he had no part in, other than his stupidity and ego which started the whole thing.

The colossal gall that it took to say when we put our differences aside.... we can accomplish great things...

is just jaw-dropping!

mb

I thought Reid's staff told him not to make the smelly tourist statement.

The man is a rocket scientist, I tell ya!

Pass him the duct tape, MB....well, pass it to his staff...they surely need it by now because their boss is soooo dumb!

Dem dim Dimocrats

"The man [Reid] is a rocket scientist, I tell ya!"

You betcha he’s SMART!  Just like all Dimocrats – by their own distorted definition.

BTW, the reason there were no Democrats on ABC’s list of dumb remarks is because Democrats are “smart,” don’t chya know, like Reid, Pelosi, Biden, Obama, etc.

That's what I was referring to; the Limbaugh thing was a bonus.  LOL

working your way up

When your staff tells you not to be stupid and then you mention that your staff told you not to be stupid, on national TV, well.. you're really just working your way up to stupid. You really need a much more sensitive dumbometer to register anything at all. Remember, from right to left its:

  1. No EEG
  2. Brain Dead
  3. Imbecilic
  4. Moronic
  5. Dumb (full scale)

That paticular coment would probably be a 2.5 on the dumbometer.

CNN ADDS ANOTHER POTTY MOUTH

 ANOTHER FILTHY MOUTH LIBERAL

Co-host Anderson Cooper, who spent the night playing the role of straight man to Kathy Griffin’s antics, then managed to break for commercial - although by that point, he could barely keep a straight face.
Cooper seemed to become increasingly uncomfortable with Griffin’s
off-color remarks, including her request to “get a pap smear from [CNN
medical reporter] Dr. Sanjay Gupta,” and her description of former CNN
host Glenn Beck as a “heroin addict Mormon.”
CRAWFISH NOTE: This is a major way to find

I like it here,  most of the views expressed here fall very much in line with my own, and there is not the silly, immature trolling behavior that is so prevalent on other sites. Reid and his 'tourist' comment

Agreed.  There should be a special award for Reid and his 'tourist' comment.  This was no slip of the tongue or contextually ambiguous, off the cuff remark.  No, it was deliberate, calculated, premeditated, and rehearsed assininity...after his staff warns him, in essence, that he doesn't possess a molecule of common sense if he utters those words.

Reading biggest newspapers in smallest towns

I live in rural Iowa.  I'd have to go to great lengths to read a hard copy of the New York Times, the Washington Post, the LA Times, or any of the most influential papers the day they're published.  I'm sure it's harder in Alaska.  Since most of the MSM moves in lockstep, I'm sure Gov. Palin gets as much news from Alaska's local papers as she would from the big names in the biz.  But if they were all she had named, she'd be portrayed as hopelessly out of it.

Welcome to the era of unity, you racist!

Half of the most idiotic

Half of the most idiotic things said came from the media itself. Number one would be "I feel a thrill running down my leg".

ABC News is lacking

Finding dumb Democrat quotes would have required two things lacking at ABC News:

1)  Ability to overcomde extreme laziness

2)  Intellectual honesty

Welcome to the era of unity, you racist!

or 3

3) randomly visiting liberal websites?

You'll have to filter out the hate speech though.

There is not enough server

There is not enough server space or bandwidth in the world for ABC to list the all time dumb quotes made by Dems.

Much easier to list the few from the Republicans and, a few token actors passed off as actual Republican quotes, than to list the other side.

Must have been a slow day at ABC. Guess Jlo, Brittany & Madonna are on vacation and, hard to find.

Obama puts the um into dumb quotes

From memory, here's a few more Democrat dumb quotes of 2008:

Vice Presidential candidate (and alleged LAW poindexter) Joe Biden asserting the office to which he aspired fell under Article One of the constitution. For those in Berkeley, it's Article TWO.

Presidential candidate Barack Obama claiming that inflating tires correctly would eliminate the need for importing foreign oil. Funny, you don't hear much about THAT brilliant frackin' idea these days.

Presidential candidate Barack Obama claiming his "uncle" liberated the concentration camp Auschwitz in Germany. 3 problems. It wasn't his "uncle" it was a great uncle. Auschwitz is in POLAND. The Russians "liberated" Auschwitz after the Nazis fled. Apart from that it reeks of veracity.

Presidential candidate Barack Obama said "On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes — and I see many of them in the audience here today — our sense of patriotism is particularly strong."

Yeah BARACK SEES DEAD PEOPLE as he doesn't know the diff between Memorial Day and Veterans' Day

Okay, I'm tired now.

You missed a candidate

As Mr. Huston and all the commenters have shown, there is a wealth of all-time dumb quotations by liberals that can be brought forward. But one name that I am frankly astounded has not yet been mentioned is that of our own "Worst House Speaker Ever"--Nancy Pelosi.

What about such classics as:

  • Pre-Blago/William Jefferson/Charles Rangel/[fill in your favorite dishonest Democrat here] swagger: "Democrats will create the most open and honest government in history,
and put power back where it belongs – in the hands of all the people" (Pelosi Press Release, 1/18/06).
  • Historian Nancy explains the Great Depression: "I don't know what was so great about the Depression, but that's the name they give it" (Pre-Bailout Speech in the House, Sept. 2008)
  • Theologian Nancy on when life begins: "And what I know is, over the centuries, the doctors of the church have not been able to make that definition" (Meet the Press, 8/24/08).
  • Cliche-machine Nancy on drilling: (Can't really effectively quote this one in a short space; you'll have to read Noel Sheppard's 8/3/08 write-up. But George Stephanapoulos' response "So what exactly are you trying to say?" is priceless.)
  • And my personal favorite, Nancy on the Building of the Buddhas: "'Look,' she said, the chicken breast on her plate untouched. 'I had, for five months, people sitting outside my home, going into my garden in San Francisco, angering neighbors, hanging their clothes from trees, building all kinds of things -- Buddhas? I don't know what they were -- couches, sofas, chairs, permanent living facilities on my front sidewalk.'" (Washington Post, 10/10/07).

I could add many more examples, but I think the point is made. In her way, Nancy is about as big of a stupid quote machine as Joe "Clean and Articulate" Biden himself!

pelosi to protesters:"can

pelosi to protesters:"can we drill your brains?"

http://www.cbsnews.c...

Yes, nancy pelosi gets my vote for stupidest quote of the year with her  pathetic comeback to "drill here, drill now".  Her combination of ignorance and upper class arrogance reminds me of both John Kerry and his wife.  The scary part about this quote is that she probably literally meant it.

That's a great one, muh-oon...

...and it's always made me wonder whether that was an attempt at (extremely lame) sarcasm, or she was trying to drill for "brains" to because of her own critical shortage.

I also remembered another favorite from last July: "I’m trying to save the planet; I’m trying to save the planet." (I created the graphic shown here of Nancy and a space alien friend to mark that occasion.) That was, of course, also the occasion where she proclaimed, "I have always loved longitude." (And by the way, did I mention that I get all sweaty over the Periodic Table of the Elements? And that the metric system gives me goose bumps?)

When it comes to dumb quotes, few people are the gold mine that Pelosi is.

There's also that great

There's also that great Pelosi quote where she was too stupid to know that natural gas was a fossil fuel:

“I believe in natural gas as a clean, cheap alternative to fossil
fuels,” she said at one point. Natural gas “is cheap, abundant and
clean compared to fossil fuels,”

http://blogs.wsj.com...

i always wondered...

... if Nancy was trying to save the planet when she was whining that her private, government-sponsored jet wasn't big enough.  How would having a bigger jet conserve fuel and save the planet?  Guess saving the planet came AFTER that.

Viv5... You are so right

Viv5...

You are so right about Pelosi...I forgot all about this dim bulb when she opens her mouth and attempts to blink those botoxed to death eyes...I seriously can barely get through her daily press briefings in congress, let alone her pathetic mighty floor speeches before some important vote.

It is like chalk on blackboard.

Nah, bt...

I'm sure you'll be more than glad to do that for us won't you?

Nah, bt...I don't have the time or the energy, or the thread space.  :-)

Jer

I'm sorry?

Did you miss the POINT of this thread, Jer? It wasn't about a bipartisan list. It wasn't about me adding a Republican list. It was that the ABC list was neither bipartisan NOR contained anything but Republicans.

There was no reason I needed to add Republicans to any list. ABC did it all for us.

But, maybe we need to add these...

"But I can't swim"
--Teddy Kennedy after he murdered Mary Jo Kopechne

Or how about...

"Hang the N_ _er"
-- Bobby KKK Bird, throughout much of his adult life

"Kill all the yellow b_ st_ rds"
-- Lyndon Johnson on the eve of the Gulf of Tonkin

"I, er ah... screw them and pretend we, er, never knew anything about it."
-- JFK as he abandoned the Bay of Pigs operatives

"Hostages? What hostages?"
-- Jimmah Carter as he dithered while our people were held in Iran

"Pearl Harbor? I hope they all die so we can get in the war. They are soldiers, right?"
-- FDR with his finger crossed just before a "date that would live in infamy."

Maybe we should add those, eh smart guy?
;)

Maybe we should add those,

Maybe we should add those, eh smart guy?

Looks as though you just did.  And a very vivid imagination, I might add, smart guy. ;-)

Thanks, bt...I had heard

Thanks, bt...I had heard about it, but had never seen the video.

Exactly my point Jer...if

Exactly my point Jer...if this had been some equal in the Senate of the great Lyinized Kennedy that had an 'R' after their name...just how many times do you think you would have had that etched in your brains 24/7 via the MSN...HUH Jer?

Give me a break here...the hypocrisy is despicably blatant here with all of the msm... this is one of the best examples they could of used in the article to represent a dem and their dumb "quotes".

Actually, bt, of all the quotes listed by Warner--Dem and Repub--the only two I was unfamiliar with were the ones by Bush and Swartzenegger.

I have no freakin' idea, bt.  I'll guess 116 times...maybe more...maybe less.  It probably would have been more with an R guy than a D guy.  Okay?

list of republicans

Here it is Jer, the list of Republicans. That's why the thread was started.

on purpose?

"I think gay marriage is something that should be between a man and a woman."  - Arnold Schwarzenegger.

You sure he didn't do that on purpose? That sounds like him and it is correct.

mlx....I'm laughing here

mlx....I'm laughing here with both of your posts...love your wit, sense of humor.

Bipartisan political blunders

I noticed that on the same ABC website where these dumb quotes are found is another slideshow of "Politician's Microphone Mishaps" which shockingly contains as many Democrat examples as Republican.  I guess whoever compiled the list failed to get the "liberal bias" memo.

Jer

Good gawd Jer...do you ever

Now THERE you go again

Jer, you just revealed a perfect (lack) of leftist logic. Because you found ONE example where ABC gave an even handed treatment... why, that means the example I used is excusable.

Let's use your same "logic" in another situation...

If John Wayne Gacey or Richard Speck helped a woman give birth, why, heck, that erases their murders. They took a life they helped a life live. There. Even balance.

Of course to imagine that such an erasing of evil could occur that easily is stupid. But using your "logic" here, we would have to apply it to all situations equally.

Now, REAL logic (as opposed to your leftist version) would have seen the badly biased piece I represented as inexcusable by a "news" organization at ANY time. Regardless if they had reported the news properly and unbiased 100 times previous, you should rightly see THIS example where they are OBVIOUSLY biased and feel it is a failure of form. But, no. Instead of trying to IMPROVE the world, you are looking for EXCUSES for evil... like every leftist does.

On the other hand, you also reveal situational "ethics" because you would NEVER EVER excuse such a lapse by your enemies. ANY slip by them is grounds for your outrage and your tsking.

Ah, the left. Why do they have such trouble with morality. Oh, I remember... it's because they have none.

On the other hand, you also

On the other hand, you also reveal situational "ethics" because you would NEVER EVER excuse such a lapse by your enemies. ANY slip by them is grounds for your outrage and your tsking.

Oh yeah?  Produce one post of mine supporting your accusation, smart guy.  Otherwise, I would appreciate it if you would stop lying about me.  Check it out...maybe you'll run across the instances where I defended Trent Lott and his Strom Thurmond comments or where I have condemned Bill Clinton's conduct.

Jer

"The one thing we fail to

"The one thing we fail to talk about is those costs that you don't see on the bottom line. That is coal makes us sick, oil makes us sick; it's global warming. It's ruining our country, it’s ruining our world. We’ve got to stop using fossil fuel.”

Chalk it up to the Peter Principle that the incompetent boob that made the above statement is the current Senate Majority Leader.

"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it." -Ronald Reagan

The Rocky Mountain Collegian: Illustrating Idiocy

A Dumb Quote from ABC News

KMBZ in Kansas City carries ABC News Radio at the top of the hour. A couple of days ago an ABC News reporter in Israel was reporting on the situation with Israel and Hamas, and apparently is was raining hard there. According to the reporter, "It's literally raining cats and dogs."

If that had actually occurred, I believe that would have been greater news than the conflict.

Ha, ha. Apparently the idiot

Ha, ha. Apparently the idiot has no idea what the word "literally" means!

one more

Was reading stuff about Blago on American Thinker. Check this one out.

"There are no African-Americans in the Senate, and I don't think that anyone -- any U.S. senator, who's sitting in the Senate, right now, wants to go on record to deny one African-American for being seated in the U.S. Senate." Bobby Rush

Of course that was after he said he wouldn't approve a Blago pick. Bobby Rush gets a two-for on this comment, it's dumb and racist.
